Model and makeup artist Roxy Summerville is losing faith in romance altogether when a wedding that seems to be intent on rubbing it in her face offers her a chance encounter. Meeting the handsome, sophisticated architect Ren Maki is like seeing everything Roxy could've ever wanted for herself laid out on a beautiful silver platter; seeing the wedding band on his finger is like putting the platter behind iron bars.

Borrowed Time!

Love on borrowed time, but at some point the debt is due and you will need to pay! Roxy and Ren fell in love before he was really free to love her with no restrictions. We don't know all that Ren went through to be free, but we had a chance to see and so know why he wanted to be free.

No person should have to surrender their dignity or what makes them tick to satisfy or make another person happy! I have experienced and even now have to stay strong to maintain my life as I want it and not let myself be controlled by what someone else thinks I should be! It is not pleasant when you stand up to a Controlling Person. You have to be determined and cannot back down, even though they will try every trick at hand to bring you back under Their Power!

I am glad Ren was able to get free and then be free to explore a new kind of love with Roxy. A love that can be unrestrained and exposed for all eyes to see with no guilt or shame!

Side Note: I know most people see this as a story of infidelity and finding love in an adulterous situation. But, I see this as a story of freedom from an abusive and controlling partner. Sayako was a snob, bully, bigot and a racist! That is fine for her in her circle, as everyone gets to choose their own poison. But, when you try to poison others and bully others to accept your poison, you cross a line. That other person has the right to do whatever is required to free themselves from that poison and abuse. Roxy chose an exit strategy as that bullying was set to harm someone close to her, but REN chose to fight for his right to be free and happy away from the abuse! I believe they were set to have their happily ever after at the end.

Good read but

The ending was far too rushed. I enjoyed the relationship development although it was within the confines of a taboo situation. I also wish that Ren had started to sort out his life before the situation came to a head. A bit of background information would have been useful too. Where are they from? Ren’s family is wealthy from what? How did he meet his brotherhood and what is the Family? The whole missing year was frustrating as I would have like to read about the angst they both went through. Lastly, now that they are ready to start afresh I feel like a whole book is missing. How does the day to day match with the fantasy? How do they adapt to being an interracial couple out in the open? How does Ren family feel about all this?

.

Normally I hate cheaters. Although Ren marriage was arranged he was still married. But him and Roxy seemed as if they were soulmates. Their moments together so smooth and effortless that despite how they met at a time when he was attached this author still had me rooting for them the whole way.

?

I hope there is a second book coming? It ended too abruptly, what happened with the divorce? How did his family take it? Also I’m curious about all his friends acceptance of his relationship with Roxy, what’s their backstory? This book give more questions.

Struggle

I struggled with this story. The writing is great but adultery is a subject I don't agree with. I continued reading because I tend to enjoy the writer's stories and read to support her. But I definitely will not purchase this book for my personal library.
