TWILIGHT meets YOU in this biting tale of vampire love gone wrong.
Rain Delaney has fallen hard for Guy; the dazzling, otherworldly man of her dreams. She’s willing to indulge the darker parts of their relationship—the isolation, the blood loss, and the way Guy sometimes speaks to her like she’s a child—in exchange for the thrilling danger and passion that comes with dating a godlike man. But wanting forever with Guy comes at a cost—Rain’s life. It’s a price she’s willing to pay for an eternity of all-consuming, epic love, and a chance to finally feel like her boyfriend's equal. But when her old friend Tucker returns to town, stirring up a long-ago crush, Rain feels the first pangs of uncertainty over Guy and the (after) life she has agreed to.
As time draws nearer to Rain’s Becoming, her planned death at Guy’s hands, an unnerving jealous streak arises in Guy, prompted by Rain’s history with Tucker and his presence in her life now. Rain takes a careful step back from Guy, certain she can still feel his eyes on her at night, uncertain how she can extricate herself from a relationship with a man who possesses supernatural strength and has proven to keep a very firm grasp on the things he wants.
A (Be)coming-of-age story for girls who know they're stronger than their vampire boyfriends.
Wonderful first book for this author! I was held captive by the plot and characters all through the entire book ... had trouble putting it down each night. I love books where I can escape from the realities of real life, and this book did that for me. Vampires, life lessons, dangerous love, best friends, and more. Can't wait to see what else might come out of this writer's mind!
This was so much fun while also having some really dark moments. It's also a book that's hard to put down once you get started. With unique twists on vampire lore and romances, this story explores toxic relationships and how dangerous they can be. I loved reading Rain's journey and navigating the uncertainty of her choices with her. Her story is a perfect balance of laugh out loud moments and knots of fear in the pit of your stomach. I highly recommend it!
Can’t believe it: I’m scrolling through my books and realized I haven’t left a review for this gem yet!
I loved getting to witness this book’s “becoming” 😉 and love this author. Great for fans of Twilight who find themselves squinting at the characters choices, or young readers interested in themes of You, but not quite fully ready to dive into the more graphic real-world depiction of stalkers and serial killers.
Twilight meets YOU in this story about vampire love gone wrong. Rain Delaney is 17, and she is in love with Guy, the stunning vampire who lives in her attic. They’ve been together for two months but it feels like its been forever. She has finally agreed to take the next step in their relationship.... the turning into a vampire and spending all of eternity together...or so she says. When her childhood crush comes back into town Rain is starting to re-evaluate her relationship with Guy, especially when his jealousy starts to get out of hand. Soon she finds herself seeing her relationship in a darker light... and maybe turning into a vampire isn’t what she should be planning... but the real question is how will she survive getting out of this relationship when Guy’s obsession has gotten out of hand.. and can she save all her friends and her crush from him. This was definitely an interesting mix between Twilight and YOU, it definitely has elements of both with the manipulation, intense love after only meeting each other once, dying for the other, and jealousy and manipulation.
Super well written and thoughtful. When I started it I initially thought it would be the classic (and somewhat tired) “in love with a vampire” trope, so I was pleasantly surprised to see Rain’s journey. It’s a huge pet peeve of mine to see “insta love” or a character changing his/her mind for no identifiable reason, but this author got the pacing just right. Every action had thought and a reason behind it. I’ve not read anything like it before, and I found it so refreshing and honest, true to what an actual person would be thinking and feeling. Definitely recommend.
I am NOT a vampire romance person. Like, not even a little bit.
With that being said, I thoroughly enjoyed this book and devoured it in 3 days! You know the author does a good job when she makes you empathize with the struggles of a vampire, Guy, and convinces you that the main character, Rain, really does have a tough decision on her hands when it should be glaringly obvious. Well done!
Rating 3 ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️ This is probably going to be an unpopular opinion but to me this book was a solid three stars. I spent the first half of the book debating about just DNFing it. It was hard for me to connect with the main character or any other character in this book. The storyline was average and nothing too memorable for me. I wanted so much to like this book but it just fell flat for me. Maybe I’m not the right demographic of reader that this book is targeted to. I’m happy to be done with the book because it was just a struggle.
