Gaius Flavius has spent six years in the Bellatorio, rising to the position of Centus, and ultimately leading his own troops. His sense of duty and honor outweighs nearly everything else, leading to a conflicting series of emotions when that devotion is betrayed. He is instructed to lead his soldiers to the Southern Shield, where a group of insurrectionists is said to be found. Prepared to protect his people, Gaius Flavius leads his troops to the appointed location and readies for battle. However, it soon becomes clear that the intelligence provided to him was lacking, putting Gaius and his men in grave danger. A series of events take Gaius down, emotionally and physically, bringing him to his lowest point before a hand appears to guide him back from the edge.
Fans of Chaos Looming will enjoy learning more about Gaius Flavius’ life in the Bellatorio and how he became the man he is in the continuing story. Well written and compelling, this story is an action-packed fall from grace. Subtle allusions to sexual relations are found in the story, and detailed medical trauma and battle scenes are included, as well. Disappointingly, no mention is made of the link that exists between Earth and Loren, which makes that inclusion in the sister stories of this series feel lacking. However, as a stand-alone fantasy story, Cantor is an enjoyable distraction from every-day life. Readers who wish to know more about one of the more mysterious characters in Chaos Looming will appreciate having that opportunity in Cantor.

What a great story. I really enjoyed this book, the action and intensity of the characters was absolutely amazing. I can not wait to see what happens next. I definitely recommend this book.
Honor, loyalty, love, and a since of justice are only a few words to describe Gairuis. However, what happens when these things are challenged? How does one react when betrayal and loyalty cross paths? How does one run from honor and justice? The Centus is a story of just that, how a man's loyalty is tested only to find betrayal, how he deals with failure, believing his honor to be lost, and how love forms the truth of success. This was a great read, one that kept me wanting more, not able to put it down. I highly recommend this book and author.
