Micaela's Big Bad
I found my boyfriend mid-thrust in a vampire.
Gross. WTH, right? Also, a fork might've been thrown.
I expected to spend the night commiserating with my best friend.
That didn't happen. I found myself on a mission to save her.
And somehow, I woke up in the back of a vehicle, across from a guy who could be described as literal sex on a stick.
Then I found out a few things:
He's seriously and overwhelmingly powerful.
He's hot, like holy cannoli hot.
He's the Big Bad that I've been sensing, but no one knew what kind of a Big Bad he was.
Oh, and apparently, he's kidnapped me.

Terrific paranormal novella!

The Hero(s): Kieran - He is the big bad that Micaela has been feeling. He has more powerful dark energy emitting from him than anyone Micaela has ever seen. He is the new owner of the night club that her best friend works at which was previously owned by a demon.
The heroine: Micaela - She is an Energist in the supernatural community. Which means she can see and read energy from other supernatural beings. She can see what they see and feel what they feel.
The Love Story: Micaela knew that there was a big bad in town, but when her best friend acts strangely and goes into work on Halloween, when they traditionally stay home, she needs to be there to help her friend. However, being there puts her on the radar of Kieran who she thought was a myth. He is the strongest supernatural being she has ever come across and she doesn’t know what he is.
I won’t go into the story any further than the background I already gave since this is a novella. Though I will say that I really liked it. It wasn’t super steamy, but it was a perfect Halloween Novella. I liked the fact that Micaela was something different than I have ever seen in paranormal books before and that she was strong.

This is normally a genre I don’t tend to read but one look at the author and my twitchy trigger finger one clicked!
This was a fast paced hot little number which wrung out all those Tijan feels! I really enjoyed this one!

I haven't read PRN in what looks like forever! Really... it have been years!
But Tijan is one of my one click authors, so here I am!
In a world that shifters, werewolves, vampires and demons co-exist with humans, Micaela is an energist in a Halloween night.
She can sense the energy of others and the world. In the very beginning of the story, the felt a different and powerful dark energy, that makes her intrigued and scary at the same time.
That energy belonged to the very ancient, very dark and very handsome Kieran, who could also feel her... (I have to say that all that energy exchange looks very sexy and sensual after all).
Micaela had two personalities... Her human and full of moralities and her energist one, hunger to be fed.
Kieran is gladly there to help her to embrace and fuse her both sides.
I loved this short story, because so much have happened in the short amount of pages, but I don't feel like something was missing.
I also would love if it was a long and full novel, because now I just want more of these characters, and everything happened so fast that now I'm orphan! 😩😂
Read it in one sit and highly recommend!

So even though the book really had some Halloween vibes, I expected more Halloween descriptions or Halloween decorations to be mentioned in the book. This is the only reason why I’m giving this novella 4 stars and not 5. 😁

Re-read 23-06-2021
2021 is my Tijan cleanup year, so I’m slowly making my way through re-reading my list. I’ll leave the rating, but would like it noted that on the re-read, I found this SUPER immature. 😏

I've been a HUGE Tijan fan for years, but haven’t read anything new from her in a while. I have a long list of them I want to re-read, but I’ve been waiting for the Crew/Nate’s book to finish. To the best of my knowledge this is just a random novella, I can only think of two other paranormals she’s done the (Davy Harwood series & Evil, and I don’t believe they’re connected.
Micaela's Big Bad is a novella (138 pgs.) following energist Micaela as she tries to survive Halloween, and save her BFF demon Nikki with the help of hunky Kieran. It’s fast paced, and pretty enjoyable, but there is that silly-ish/quirky humor vibe to it.
Bottom Line- I liked it in a quick, fluffy paranormal read way, but everything felt easy. The relationship/attraction was mate based so pretty instant… easy. The baddies were quickly dispatched … easy. It was ok, but made me crave S.W.’s Burn series. There’s a small epilogue 10 years later.

Too many ideas for it to have been a short story. Instead of feeling like a snapshot of a preexisting world, it just felt very underdeveloped and lacking...

Tijan has a new Halloween novella, Micaela's Big Bad, and it's paranormal, sexy, funny and addicting. Demons, vampires and shifters are real and they are walking around with humans. Micaela Nadeem is an Energist but she doesn't know how powerful she is. Until Halloween night and she meets Kieran, someone she heard stories about growing up. A Legend. Someone she never thought she'd ever meet. Yet, here she is. And not only is he gorgeous and she's attracted to him, his beast and hers are mates. Vampires are trying to take over but Kieran and Caley aren't going to let that happen. Now that they are near each other, they are stronger together. It's a short story, but it feels like more!

Why did it have to end?!
I get that this is a novella but I wish it was a series! This story was amazing! I wanted it to never end. There were some details that left me with questions, however.

If Kieran had a mate previously, what happened to him or her? Did they die? Did he not have children with them? Why did he have children with Micaela but not with his previous mate?
Did Nikki end up with Brad?
If Jay was so "kind" why did he cheat on Micaela?
If Kieran can read minds, why didn't he just read Micaela's mind to determine why she was at Bass?
Overall this story was amazing. Another win for Tijan! I just wish it was a little longer. Seemed kind of rushed at the end and left me with some questions. I hope this author decides to do more paranormal books because the few I've read have been awesome.

I found my boyfriend mid-thrust in a vampire. Gross. A fork might have been thrown. At her vagina.
A series of events occur, Micaela is on her way to her best friend, Nikki, having found her boyfriend of four years with a vampire. Micaela is an energist and can see others’ energy. She is supposed to feed off the energy, but doesn’t nor does any of her thirty relatives in town. Her best friend Nikki is a demon, and she and Micaela ALWAYS remain at home for Halloween; with Nikki acting out of character, and Micaela having found her boyfriend of four years with a Vampire, the evening begins with Nikki caught up in something big.
Nikki leaves for work at Bass, a club for demons and Micaela/Caley follows her stirring up a wee bit of trouble and discovers that Nikki is sleeping inside of her body.
Her disruption at the bar, garners the undivided attention of the über powerful, mystical Kieran/Rakon Raoul, a dragon, to the rescue.
“What are the chances we could stop at a liquor store?”
“You were in dire straits to save your demon best friend, and now you’re asking if we can pull over to a liquor store?”
“I’m resigned to my fate. Nik’s probably going to be fine. It’s dissension night, she usually avoids those like the plague, but she’s old enough where she’s supposed to be paying homage, so I get it. Which brings me back to my original plan for the night: getting drunk. Can we stop at a store?” I thought about it. “Can I owe you too? I didn’t bring my wallet with me.”
Kieran Raoul was a story told to us non-humans. A bedtime book to scare us into behaving and not going out to kill humans. He was as ancient as they came, knowing the origins of the vampire species, even the werewolves. It was whispered that the demon masters came to the surface to pay him homage, to give him presents. That the messengers above swept down to meet with him personally.
No one knew what he was, but he wasn’t supposed to be real.
Or alive.
He was a mythical creature to the mythical creatures.
And I was officially lightheaded again.
My voice was so faint, even to my ears. “Legend says that you rule the Eastern Hemisphere.”
“I do.”
“Kieran Raoul was a killer, above all else.
We had rules to live by, and if anyone broke one, they were instantly incinerated in his hemisphere. The ruler of our hemisphere was Matron Epux, the most earth-like an angel could get to being an archangel, and they were super powerful. But Kieran was something else entirely. He wasn’t rumored to be from evil or saint-like roots.
Energists do not come out on dissension nights. I sensed you, and then took you. Coincidences rarely happen. You were there on purpose.
I wasn’t.
I could tell he didn’t believe me.
They often communicate telepathically… he reads her thoughts including her whims of fancy.
Dissension night was a night where every single demon lost their humanity, but what was worse was that it was also the night their masters surfaced and were given presents by their servants. Every demon had a master. There were six total, and the type of presents given?
There was a reason this place was filled with humans.
“Why would you help me?”
He was the Big Bad. That went against all universal and species’ laws.
He gave me another scornful look, and I thought I saw him flick his eyes upwards. Actually, I was sure I did.
I had no idea.
I felt like he did.
I would’ve if I were him.
As an energy magnet, wherever she went, good and bad energy, gravitated to her. She was actively opposed to having someone’s energy. Too much and that was a drunk level hangover. Some energy sensors never recover. They become addicted…the other problem with that is that they were like aphrodisiacs or drugs to other beings.
Beings, non-human and human, weren’t aware of their own energy, energists could see, feel, taste, touch, and smell all, it was like a guidemap of the person. She knew how they felt, their thoughts, their past struggles, their trauma, their after-life issues even. She knew their powers and knew before they made a move, sometimes before they even thought about doing the move.
She kept her mouth quiet through it all, all energy sensors did. Not just because of the whole ‘drug’ thing, but because in the past, energists were used as weapons in warfare. There was a huge vampire/werewolf war years ago, and their kind had almost been eradicated. One of the remaining kids decided to shut up about letting others know about their powers and what they could do, and that started a trend.
Shutting up.
Because of that, their kind started to grow again.
Micaela came from a family of thirty family members in their local area.
Quessadiline - couldn’t tell if he or she was a female or male. He had feminine features, so her face looked soft, but the energy was masculine.
“You’ve brought me a gift, Kieran.”
She had a soft, feminine tone, and she clapped her hands together. “I’m so excited. And it’s a newly born energist. Even better.”
“For you? I thought she’d been sent from you. I found her in my nightclub.”
“You own the new demon bar, Bass. Such a trite establishment. I don’t know why you’d want to own that building.”
“Right. Because you wouldn't want to own the opening for where the demon masters submerge? I have a hard time believing that. She came to me in the oddest chain of events, and since at the heart of it was one of yours, I was sure she was a present from you.”
“Now…tell me how you feel she was a gift sent by myself when I insist she’s a present given from you.”
“Your vampire seduced her boyfriend. And she did this at a time when this energist would find them. She was given persuasion by your vampire to pack her things, leave her boyfriend, and go to and see her best friend, whom you insured was working at my nightclub tonight. On a night you knew I’d be there. So, yes, Quessadiline, I do fully believe that this energist was a gift from you.”
“Why would I send you an energist? They’re like toys to us.”
“They’re also used as weapons of distraction, and you knew I had kept two others with me centuries ago. You were hoping to distract me tonight because I know that while I took the time to travel to see you, you sent thirty vampires to attack Bass tonight.”
A hard glint appeared in her eyes, and Kieran was right.
I saw it. The satisfaction that rolled off of her was pure evil.
She smiled slowly as she preened. “Why would I do that tonight? Of all nights?”
“Because you knew four of the six masters would be above earth today, and it was your first move against taking charge of the underworld.”
A cruel smile teased over her face. “Maybe I have done all of that, but you said thirty before, Kieran.” A pause. “Try three hundred.”
“No, Quessadiline. I said thirty because that’s how many I left alive.”
A rather abrupt ending to a satisfying story. Micaela learns about her creature, her powers .. and herself.
More should have been shared about Kieran’s first mate, such as how did she die, was she human and why did they not have children from that union?

Some minor spoilers in the review
I love Tijans books - she's an auto-buy for me.
However, if this book wasn't by her, it would have gotten 2 stars. So why is that?
I understand that as a novella it's harder to build a fantasy world properly. But there was a lot of rambling at the beginning that wasn't very helpful with the world-building in my opinion.
The baddie was unfortunately 1 dimensional.
The insta-love/mate storyline? I'm not totally against insta-love, but in order for me to accept it, I require a bit more.
I felt zero connection to the lead characters and only continued to read because I love Tijan.
If it was written by a, new to me, author, I wouldn't have bothered to finish it.
Such a shame because I was looking forward to a Halloween Novella.
Ah, also, not sure why it was a Halloween thing? Other than the event happening on said day. But with almost no explanation about the demon-masters and quesadilla-vampire attack and why the "big bad" decided to migrate from one hemisphere to another... Again, I understand it's harder to build a fantasy world and do it justice in a short story. But perhaps don't write a short one and then just have more time to build characters, world and relationships?
I love fantasy and romance, they are my jam! So I thought this would hit the spot. Unfortunately, it didn't.
Do I recommend this book?
Only to major Tijan fans who want to support the author. Because as a paranormal fantasy it's lacking and as a romance, it's also lacking. But Tijan, yay!
I feel a bit mean leaving this review now... But I read other paranormal stuff from her before and this one is just not good enough. Almost like a self-published book by a new author who got really excited writing her first book. Couldn't quite believe this was Tijan's work...

So freakin good!!
The queen has done it again.. Tijan builds these perfect worlds that I can’t help but want to get lost in. Even though this is a novella, it’s absolutely perfect.. I needed it more than I realized today.. I also had no idea what an energist was until today ..
While I want to tell you things that happen I can’t because you deserve to experience the magic of this incredible story..it made laugh out loud and it was full of action .. I loved how it sucks you in from page one with her inner thoughts and banter with her best friend.. The action starts pretty quickly and it’s on from there.. Page after page I was captivated and involved in the story..

While I want to tell you things that happen I can’t because you deserve to experience the magic of this incredible story..it made laugh out loud and it was full of action .. I loved how it sucks you in from page one with her inner thoughts and banter with her best friend.. The action starts pretty quickly and it’s on from there.. Page after page I was captivated and involved in the story..

A fun and fast paced paranormal novella!
I rarely read PNR however because of Tijans writing I had to one click.
Creative creatures and funny banter had me smiling while reading.
I loved the way she introduced us to all the characters and their powers.
I was intrigued from the first chapter with this fantasy world.
Micaela is learning more about her energist ways while Kieran’s power is drawn to her and helping her evolve. She is quirky and sassy, he is powerful but secretive.
If you are new to PNR like me this is a perfect introduction to the genre and will have you wanting more.

I've had this book on my TBR for way too long. I don't know why I kept putting it off.
It's a Halloween themed novella, and man do I love Halloween, haha.
Tijan is an amazing author. Every book from her is a work of art, and this one was no different. Although it is a novella and therefore short in length, it still had SO MUCH to it. The storyline was unique. The writing was engaging and easy to follow.
FMC Micaela can see / feel energy from other supernatural beings.... so essentially she can feel what they're feeling. So when her best friend starts acting... differently, she senses something is up. How could she not, right? Her best friends picks up a shift at the club she works at on Halloween... the one day they ALWAYS stay out of work for every year... so she immediately knows something is wrong. There is also set to be a "big bad" visiting the club that night... so are the two things related?
MMC Kiernan is the "big bad" she's been sensing dark energy from. And he apparently is also the new owner of the club they work at.
Although she can sense he has dark energy, she doesn't know what type of supernatural he is. odd.
I can't say too much more without giving away from spoilers, but this book was great. I highly recommend it!

Tijan has always been an auto-buy for me, and this novella was no exception.
Micaela is an energist, meaning she can see and feel peoples energy. Her best friend Nikki is a demon and Kieran I will keep a mystery for you, so you will need to read this to find out what he is!
This story starts out with Micaela going home and hearing groaning she just assumes her boyfriend is watching porn, however when she goes into the bedroom she finds him mid-thrust into a vampire. So rather than throwing a knife the first thing she grabs is a fork, and she throws the fork at them.
"I should've thrown a knife. At least a knife? Why not go totally lame and toss a spoon instead? Nope. A fork. I was a fork girl. A fork non-energist engergist"
After Micaela gathers up what she can of her things, she heads over to her best friends house with the plan of getting drunk. However Nikki can't help with them plans as she has to work that night, which is halloween, and that never happens for these two girls so Micaela knows something isn't right. After going to Nikki's work to rescue her, Micaela ends up getting kidnapped by the Big Bad aka Kieran.
I won't say much more on Kieran and Micaela's relationship or the mysteries surrounding Kieran as you will have to the read the book! The only thing is, I do wish this was longer or even have a second book as there is some questions I have about Kieran's past that I really want answered. But overall I loved this novella and would definitely recommend it. There's magic, humour, BFF goals, and a seriously hot guy! What more could you want?!

Michaela caught her boyfriend cheating on her with a vampire and immediately ran to Nikki to talk about it. The energy in the atmosphere has been off and so she’s been feeling off and Halloween night is just making her extremely antsy and she’s begging her best friend to stay home from the club that she works at. But with her friend being a demon, she had to go because the masters were about to wake up….

He was as ancient as they come. And as gorgeous as they come. A legend really.
This quick novella had so much comic relief in it. Micaela is hilarious and feisty. There’s vampire hunting and killing. Fated mates. And for how short this book was, it had so much world building that I felt like I was there. Which can sometimes be hard with a novella sized story. I loved it so much and I wish it did not end but it ended on the most adorable HEA ever.

Wow! I haven’t read Tijan’s paranormal books and I see now I’m missing out! The world she creates in this tiny novella is awe inspiring and addictive! I need more! Keiran and Micaela are amazing together and and I’m completely overwhelmed with giddy emotions thinking of how alpha and protective he became with her! They pushed each other’s limits and were absolutely stunning when they finally gave into their feelings!
A must read for sure this Halloween season!

Such a unique storyline!! I have never read anything like it, and I read a lot of PNR romance. Micaela is quirky, and fun. Kieran is my favorite kind of alpha. Aloof, mysterious, kind of a jerk, and super smart. The chemistry between the two was electric.

Omg this book was absolutely amazing. Once I started reading I didn’t want to stop. The characters were absolutely amazing and the story was brilliant. I loved Kieran & Micaela together. I really enjoyed this story and wish that it never ended. If your in need of a good paranormal book then definitely one click this book today.
