How curious. An entire issue dedicated to vengeance, and nothing else, and yet it leaves me... cold.
Maybe you have to really like Kitty and/or Emma Frost to get the emotion that the writers were trying for. But I'm indifferent to one and despise the other, so I wasn't exactly rooting for them in their confrontation with Shaw. Then Shaw himself is a villain of so little importance, I just keep forgetting that he exists.
Very skippable issue, unless you're the biggest Kitty Pryde fan ever.
Well, this was rather wonderful...Emma and Kate team up, along with Storm and Lockheed, to wreak vengeance upon Sebastian Shaw for the crime of...well...killing Kate Pryde and attempting to kill Lockheed. Things which make him a very bad man. I mean, we already knew he was a very bad man, but still...
And what a twisted and entirely appropriate vengeance it is. Because, after all, on Krokoa, death holds no stings...but humiliating a man in his own home? And reducing himself to a wheelchair bound shell of himself? For a man like Shaw that's gotta hurt. I also fully expect this to come back to bite Kate and Emma at some point.
The art is superb, and the cover, by Russel Daughterman is particularly good. My only real question here is: Where did Kate's knuckle tats go? Although, I didn't like them, so... Maybe she phased them off?
Anyway, this was good, and builds my excited for post-X Of Swords X-books.
What a power trip! Haha! Kate was right. Men are too emotional—and treacherous, disloyal, and untrustworthy—to lead.
Kate, Emma, and Ororo are totally badass in this one. But I still don't think Sebastian has been punished enough, plus keeping his transgressions secret from the Quiet Council will only lead to problems in the future.
I noticed something conflicting here… Jean was on the Council in Hellions #7, but in this issue she's not and they're discussing her replacement? Shouldn't she not have been sitting at all post X of Swords?
I've been waiting for this issue. The comeuppance of Sebastian Shaw. This story could have been great. SHOULD have been great. But the depictions of Shaw, both artistically and characteristically, were disappointing. He looks more like some youthful version of the lanky and creepy Count Olaf from A Series of Unfortunate Events than the stout and formidable Sebastian Shaw I'm used to. His typical confident and menacing demeanor is quickly reduced to a buffoonish caricature I don't recognize or find particularly believable for him. Still giving it f 4 stars for the overall storyline and badass portrayals of Kate and Emma.
Firstly I love Kate, she fucking rocks, and seeing her get her revenge against Shaw was brilliant. He's had it coming for a while and he got the good old beat down he deserved.
I feel that's the end of that arc and let's see where the series goes next.
Good art, good writing, a little less humour than normal but still managed to slip some in.
Don't get me wrong, I love whiskey as much as the next girl but Kate needs to chill on the drinking. Shaw really deserved that ass kicking. But he's going to retaliate in a big way. I hope the book doesn't turn into a back and forth for the next few months. Kate's finger tattoos lied!
