He thinks she’s out of his league.

Lyosha Vasiliev met Mila by chance, and now she’s all he thinks about. But the two couldn’t be more different, so Lyosha won’t go there. As a security expert, he skirts the law on the regular. Unlike Mila, the newest employee at Red Stone Security, who spends her free time volunteering at an animal shelter. Despite his determination to stay away from her, when it becomes clear his past has come back to haunt him—and poses a threat to her—Lyosha immediately steps in. And he’ll cross any line to keep her safe.

But he can’t seem to walk away.

Mila met Lyosha when he brought in a half-starved stray cat to the shelter she volunteers at. He tries to act tough—and okay, he is. He should be the last man she wants, but she loves his sexy tattoos, gruff demeanor, and that he has a marshmallow inside that only she gets to see. When someone threatens her, he’s convinced it’s linked to his past. He’s made it clear that he’ll protect her with his life—but he won’t give her his heart. Not when he blames himself for bringing danger to her doorstep. Except Mila isn’t the kind of woman who walks away from what she wants. And Lyosha finds himself unwilling to let her go without a fight.

Secret Enemy by Katie Reus is suspenseful and romantic, as any romantic suspense should be. However, this novel has that “something extra” beyond a rugged male protagonist who is protective and a female protagonist who has moments of insecurity, but when deeds require it, she comes out strong and fighting.

Lyosha brings in a stray cat to an animal shelter where he meets Mila, a volunteer, and they quickly become friends. He works for Red Stone Security and is their security lead. Mila has finished her degrees in marketing and design and starts work at the same company. However, they are keeping it to a “friends-only” relationship. When a threat from his past walks into their lives and threatens Mila, their lives change in multiple ways.

There was a lot more character development in this book for them than I expected. Lyosha and Mila are very different characters, but each is well-developed revealing both their tough sides and their flaws. I got a good sense of what they enjoyed when they were relaxing as well as how they handled threats and what their vulnerabilities were. The supporting characters of Mila’s family and Lyosha’s friends and co-workers had the right amount of depth for their roles.

This book is set in Miami, Florida and is exactly what you would expect from a well-written romantic suspense novel, with plenty of concern over how to protect someone, working to determine who is threatening them, and just the right amount of friendship and romance. The one thing that I felt was somewhat missing was a strong sense of Miami. This could have taken place in almost any city.

There is a twist to the story that adds another dimension. Suspense and action abound. Steamy scenes don’t come into play until about two-thirds of the way through the book so there isn’t the instant love that so many authors overuse. Themes include threats, family, friendship, attraction, protectiveness, kindness, jealousy, romance, and revenge.

Overall, this book was suspenseful, riveting, fast-paced, and action-oriented. If you enjoy action thrillers that have both strong male and female characters, then this may be the series for you.
This exhilarating novel is the sixteenth in the Red Stone Security series, but it reads well as a standalone. This is the second book that I have read by this author and I can’t wait to find out what is next in this series as well as go back and read the earlier books.

Secret Enemy by Katie Reus
Red Stone Security series, book 16. Romantic suspense. Can be read as a stand-alone.

Lyosha has played “friend” to Mila for the last six months. He definitely wants more, but feels she can do better than him. He’s a former bad guy turned good, or rather, now on the right side of the law. He knows he will have to eventually walk away so it’s for the best if they are just friends.
All Mila knows is that she’d like it to go beyond friendship but she won’t push. Until she goes on a date with someone else, then all bets are off.

I was frustrated when the Lyosha and Mila wouldn’t talk to each other. So I was glad when the “shakeup” occurred. You have to speak up to get what you want from life and I cheered when Mila finally does. They still had a lot to work through, including someone stalking Mila, so don’t think that’s a spoiler.
Loved her family! Close knit and so invested in each other’s happiness. Quirkiness and love. And the fact they cleaned up after a party and put leftovers in the fridge? Priceless. I hope we see more of them in future books.
Engaging, suspenseful and sexy.

Quote:
“He needed to make a move or he was going to lose the best thing that had ever happened to him. He stripped off his shirt and tossed it onto the chair next to her clothes. And found that he liked the way their clothing looked intertwined together. Imagined what it would look like on his bedroom floor.“

4.5

I love getting more Red Stone Security books, especially when it’s for the man who works for Viktor. Viktor’s story is one of my favorites of the series because of the way he was and how he treated Dominique.

You get a lot of those same traits in Lyosha. He’s extremely protective of Mila. He treats her like every woman secretly wants. If it were up to Lyosha, he would wait hand and foot on her. That doesn’t mean he is that strong Alpha male. He’s very much an intense, dominant male. He just chooses to treat Mila like a queen.

Mila had a bit of insecurity, but also had brave moments when she was upfront with Lyosha about her feelings, and she wasn’t a doormat. It’s a good mix to find in a heroine. I loved the “extra” her family brought to the story. I would even love to get a couple more books with the sisters. They were a fun and loving family.

This was definitely an enjoyable read and I’m looking forward to more in the series.

This was a wonderful read!

160 Kick-Ass Dragon Tattoo Designs to Choose From (with Meanings) - Wild Tattoo Art

I absolutely loved these characters. Lyosha is the type of hero that I adore! He’s a Russian tough guy with a heart of gold and a soft spot a mile wide. I loved that he could take care of business one minute and cuddle with a kitten the next. Add in a touch of jealousy and a load of protectiveness and he was checking each of my boxes off with each page.

May be an image of one or more people and grass

Mila was perfect for him. She was soft, kind, and had a loud boisterous family that accepted Lyosha as one of their own. With every little thing she did, she made him smile which was something his younger life had been lacking. While she wasn’t what I would consider a tough heroine, when it came time to be upfront about things, she didn’t hesitate to tell him like it was.

Imagining Criminal Minds — Imagine you and Reid want to spice up your sex...

This was filled with lots of drama and mystery. The threat of danger at every turn activated all those wonderful alpha tendencies that I love. There is also a bit of relationship angst that made this couple finding their happy ever after all the more wonderful. Add a chemistry that absolutely sizzles between this hero and heroine and a perfect epilogue and I’ve found another awesome read by this author.

This one was cute. I liked how Lyosha and Mila met and the friendship they developed. Of course each of them felt more for the other, but wasn't willing to make a move. It did drive me nuts that Lyosha didn't think he was good enough for Mila, which kept him keeping her at an arms length and ended up hurting her. I found when someone bad from Lyosha's past came into play I didn't mind it too much as it forced Lyosha and Mila to be around each other more and to actually talk about things, but it drove me nuts that they didn't fully talk, only half truths on Lyosha's side. Mila's family was a hoot and I liked the role that they played in things, glad that they liked Lyosha as much as Mila did and he loved being around them. The ending to this one was great! Loved how Lyosha and Mila are starting things together.

Another great book in this series, but it is a stand alone.

Mila and Lyosha annoyed me at times. They finally got it together, but they were all over the place.

Katie Reus seems to have mastered the format of the suspense novella, packing a huge punch in what feels like a brief, but full story in Lyosha's and Mila's romance. And it's for this reason I like going through her suspense series: they're eminently readable, easy to go through and don't quite require a huge emotional investment that tends to leave you feeling wrung-out for days in the aftermath.

Like the rest of the Red Stone Security series, it's a threat that brings the couple together, although there's a little more stubbornness built into Lyosha, who pretty much spends most of the book vacillating between denying his feelings and convincing himself that he's not good enough, while Mila simply hangs on (sometimes, literally) for dear life. As far as the suspense plot and relationship build-up go, 'Secret Enemy' is nonetheless a predictable and formulaic one, with the typical emotional turning point coinciding with the climax of the action. The highlight however, is that same pining and longing that have Mila/Lyosha dancing around each other and it's a slower burn than usual which I could appreciate.

Things do wrap up a little too easily as Lyosha/Mila ride off into their HEA (absolute suspension of disbelief kicks in here) but Reus does deliver a short but delightful burst of entertaining romantic suspense with this one.

Secret Enemy🤩

Wow, loved this story of Mila and Lyosha❣️ This story is a friends to lovers romance with a bit of denial included on Lyosha’s part…due to his past he doesn’t believe that he’s worthy of Mila but eventually events wear him down and he admits his true feelings. This story is action packed and full of surprises but especially nice to return to our familiar characters at Red Stone Security😍 I’m super excited for the next one in this series😁

Mmm this was a solid 3. It was straightforward and enjoyable enough, but wasn't spectacular. I liked Mila and thought she was a solid character. As wonderfully protective and sweet Lyosha was to Mila, I think she deserved more groveling for all his indecisiveness. It does wrap up really well though.

I haven't read all the Red Stone Security series, but that was not a deterrent in following this one. Lyosha Vasiliev, Viktor Ivanov's head of security brings a stray kitten into an animal shelter and is enchanted with Mila Nowak. They become friends, but fight their attraction, because each thinks the other is "out of their league". Lyosha grew up on the streets as his parents were both drug addicts and he is in love with Mila's family almost as much as he is with her. But he is too much of a coward to risk the heart ache of losing her, so he keeps them in the friend zone, until her life is in danger and his alpha nature takes over. But where is the danger coming from? Engaging characters and plot, make this a page turning read.

I read an ARC provided by NetGalley.com. This is my unbiased and voluntary review.

Secret Enemy is book 16 in Red Stone Security series by Katie Reus. This is Lyosha and Mila's story. Theirs is a friends to lovers romance. They met by chance before she went to work at RSS where he happens to work as well. Lyosha is deeply attracted to Mila but feels he's not good enough for her and never would be. He thinks he can only just be her friend. That goes on for 6 months before danger enters her life and soon there's suspense, intrigue, action, twists, chemistry, misunderstandings, heartbreak, drama and sizzle. Mila wants Lyosha in her life, wants him to see her as more than just a "friend " but doesn't want to risk losing him. It's great reading as the MC work their ways around their feelings while trying to catch whoever is after Mila. The ending is fantastic. Can't wait for the next RSS book!

4.25 stars-- SECRET ENEMY is the sixteenth instalment in Katie Reus’ contemporary, adult RED STONE SECURITY romantic suspense series focusing on the men and women who work for Red Stone Security. This is RSS new hiree Mila, and Russian security specialist Lyosha Vasiliev’s story line. SECRET ENEMY can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary. Lyosha was first introduced in book thirteen Love Thy Enemy-Lyosha works security for Viktor Ivanov.

Told from several third person perspectives including Mila and Lyosha SECRET ENEMY follows the friends to lovers relationship between RSS new hiree Mila, and Russian security specialist Lyosha Vasiliev. Mila and Lyosha have been dancing around one another for close to six months but Mila’s recent run in with her roommate’s boyfriend finds Lyosha in alpha-protector mode but our hero believes himself unworthy of Mila’s love, and in this continues to push away the woman he wants. When a former enemy returns, eyeing Mila as the ultimate prize, Lyosha knows that his lifestyle now threatens our story line heroine, and there is no turning back when she is targeted for Lyosha’s sins of the past. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Lyosha and Mila, and the potential fall-out as Mila finds herself the target of two men, one of whom set his sights on the man with whom she will fall in love.

The relationship between Lyosha and Mila is a friends to lovers, immediate attraction wherein Lyosha refuses to cross the line into something more. Believing himself unworthy, Lyosha intends to keep his distance but threats against Mila continue to pull our couple into one another’s orbits. Meanwhile, Mila struggles with some issues of self-esteem, believing she is beneath the people for which Lyosha is friends. The $ex scenes are intimate and passionate without the use of over the top, sexually graphic language and text.

There is a large ensemble cast of secondary and supporting characters including Viktor and his wife Dominique (Love Thy Enemy); Dominque’s sister in law Lucy as well as Mila’s sisters Angel, Clarita and Zamira, their mother, and RSS agent Juan- there is definitely something developing between Angel and Juan. The requisite evil has many faces.

SECRET ENEMY is a story of vengeance and retribution, family and relationships, opportunity and love. The fast paced premise is intriguing and captivating; the characters are spirited; the romance is seductive and exciting. SECRET ENEMY is another wonderful addition to Katie Reus’ Red Stone Security family.

Let me clue you in on a personal secret, folks. I normally love this author's writing. She never fails to give me an alpha good guy hero (even if he has a questionable dark past or occupation) and a sassy heroine he ultimately has to fight for love to get to keep her. Smexy steam is inevitably thrown in, too. An evil villain causing murder and mayhem seem par for the course, as well as a posse of friends, family, and co-workers who always have their back and help save the day. Staying celibate during spats and separations are greatly appreciated and a common trait of this author's romantic tales, too.

Sound good? Well, it pains me to confess this go around things simply felt out of balance. Too much time was initially spent on Lyosha's constant back and forth mental handwringing and weak excuses to himself and anyone else who would listen why he couldn't and shouldn't make Mila his lady love. This coincided with too much time on Mila's hands with her whining to herself and the world, "Why doesn't he want me like I want him?". Seriously, that bit got old and seemed to go on forever.

The evil villain would often appear out of the blue with a speaking role or action in such a confusing manner I often had to reread to try and figure out what just happened. I found his unsavory actions, behavior, and character in general too over done, btw. Sorry but I did not want up close and personal smex scenes with him in any form.

By 50%, I realized I was just plain bored to boot. Sure, I read on for awhile longer but the smex scenes started to take over too often, and I didn't feel they were scripted well. I can't shake the feeling maybe even this author may be getting a tad tired of writing books for this series.

Here's to hoping others enjoyed it more. It had a great premise, but I don't think the writing delivered the quality of romance I expected.

Title: Secret Enemy, Series: Red Stone Security (Book #16), Author: Katie Reus, Pages: 185, stand-alone but part of a series, struggled to keep reading.

Another great Red Stone Security read! Lyosha really likes and cares about Mila, a woman he has safely friend-zoned for the last six months. Lyosha is now on the good side of the law and works as a security expert, however, he decides to act on his feelings once he realizes that the past he was protecting Mila from, can no longer be hidden or contained. Feelings come to light and truths revealed, as well as past characters make for a great read. Once again, Ms. Reus does not disappoint. I loved it!!! 4 stars

Secret Enemy is the 16th book in Katie Reus’s Red Stone Security series. You do not have to read all of the books because they are all written as stand-alone titles. However, this is the series that introduced me to this author, and I’ve read them all. It’s one of my all-time favorite series, so when I heard she was revisiting the Red Stone Security world, I was beyond excited to read this book. If you’re looking for a great romantic suspense series to binge on, I highly recommend this one!

This book is a friends-to-lovers story with danger coming at our heroine, Mila, from several unknown suspects. Our hero, Lyosha, has come from the wrong side of the law to the right side, and because of his past, he feels like he’s not good enough to be more than Mila’s best friend despite feeling much more than friendship for her. Both main characters make several missteps that nearly sever their friendship, but it eventually ends in their happily ever after.

Secret Enemy is a fast-paced, page-turning romantic suspense story filled with all the drama and suspense you desire in such a book, as well as relatable and lovable main characters and a quirky and adorable cast of supporting characters. Even though Lyosha is very much an alpha male character, he treats Mila so well that she doesn’t see him as over the top dominating. She’s sassy enough to speak her mind and make her own decisions but intelligent enough to listen to others when it comes to her safety. While there are many steamy scenes, they aren’t over the top and simply add to the story rather than detracting from the intrigue. It’s a great addition to the Red Stone Security series that stays true to the setting, tone, and general feeling from the previous books that keeps this series of stand-alone titles cohesive. Needless to say, I’m absolutely giddy that there’s going to be another book after this one, and I can’t wait to read it!

This is book sixteen in The Red Stone Security Series and it is Lyosha and Mila's story and omg I absolutely loved it and it is just read. Mila works as a volunteer at a animal shelter and when a big brooding man full of tattoos arrived carrying a starved kitten she calls instantly in lust with him and over time they become friends but Mila wants more but she can't loose there friendship as it means the world to her so she has to keep her feelings under wraps as Lyosha obviously only wants friendship. Lyosha worked for Red Stone Security and they had become his family but he knew when he met Mila that he wanted her but his background wasn't good and he felt that he wasn't good enough for her so all he had to offer her was friendship even though he really wanted everything with her but he couldn't put her in danger as he would never forgive himself if anything happened to her. When danger from his past comes knocking he realised that they are not only targeting him but Mila as well and he will do everything in his power to keep her safe and protect her at all costs. Lyosha and Mila has incredible chemistry and it was so hot that you can feel it sizzling of the pages of the book but they were both stubborn and if they didn't act on it they could miss out on something so special. There were twists and turns along with danger, suspense, action packed, vulnerability, hope, love, difficult situations but most of all family. I couldn't put this book down as it was so addictive and kept me on the edge of my seat wondering what else would happen. Katie Reus is an amazing author and writer and she certainly knows how to keep her reader's attention right from the first page until the last. I definitely recommend you read this book, series and other books by her and you will definitely not be disappointed.

Katie Reus crafts wonderful mid length romantic suspense stories that satisfy. This is another in her loved Red Stone Security. It's about Lyosha Vasiliev, Head of Security for Victor Ivanov who is Dominique's husband. Those who are familiar with the series will recognize the characters. It's his turn to fall in love even though he fights it as hard as Victor did. I loved watching Lyosha unable to keep his heart walled off from Milla.

Milla volunteers at an animal rescue and adoption place where she meets Lyosha. He accidentally on purpose forgets some of his paperwork after adopting a cute fluffy kitten. This begins their friendship. He's protective and discovers she has a problem with her roommate Emily's new boyfriend and makes sure he stays away until Milla is moved out in a week. Because of their backgrounds both have issues as to worthiness as a mate. Lyosha comes from Russia's gutters. He and Victor come from a criminal background and now Victor has gone completely legit after inheriting his father's partially criminal empire. Lyosha is also a hacker and Victor's friend and invested with Victor and is a rich man. Milla is 28 and is now graduating with a Masters in Design and Marketing. She's just been hired at Red Stone and works with Dominique and Lizzy Caldwell, another familiar name at Red Stone. When Milla's life is in danger from Lyosha's past he pulls all the stops to keep her safe. When they spend time alone together in his home things heat up. When it all hits the fan Lyosha realizes he can't live without her. Just when you think all is safe it's not and we get to see Milla defend herself as well.

Her Shield!!!

Mila met Lyosha when he brought in a half-starved stray cat to the shelter she volunteered at. He acted like a broody, Alpha man and she knew he shouldn't be the last man she should be crushing on. But she couldn't help herself, she was enamored with his tattoos. And the way he held that kitten was too much, he was just a big old softie inside.

Lyosha Vasiliev worked for Viktor Ivanov ( LOVE THY ENEMY ) as his head of security and part-time hacker. The expert met Mila the newest employee of Red Stone SECURITY by chance, now she was all he could think about.

When danger surrounded her, Lyosha made it his mission to protect her, no matter what. Despite the attraction between them, he wasn't willing to do anything about it especially when he thought she was in danger because of his past.

What he didn't know was that Mila wasn't going to walk away from him without a fight. Like the fact that Mila's family saw what was going on between before they did. It was great to catch up with old characters and meet new ones.

The relation Lyosha had with Viktor went beyond employee and employer. They were like brothers. The culprit(s) got what was coming to them. Loved how Mila and Lyosha got their HEA.

SECRET ENEMY is the 16th installment in Katie Reus's RED STONE SECURITY series. It was fast-paced, beautiful and fascinating. Katie Reus did a marvelous job! 5++++

Secret Enemy, by Katie Reus, is a fun and fast read by an author that I'm coming to love. It's number 16 in the Red Stone Security series, but the first in the series for me. It worked fine as a standalone, though fans of the series will be happy to see several previous characters make an appearance.

Lyosha and Mila meet in a prologue; he had just left the animal shelter where he'd brought in a kitten for a check-up. He'd left some documentation, and volunteer Mila called him to see about getting it back to him. Chapter 1 begins about six months later. Mila is a new employee at Red Stone, and she and Lyosha have become good friends. Alas, friends without benefits because Lyosha has the "I'm not good enough for her" thing going on.

This book checked a lot of my boxes: Hot, protective hero? Check! Adorable but self sufficient heroine? Check! Cute pet? Check! Suspense? Mostly check. So it's the suspense that dropped this nearly perfect read down a half star for me. I just wanted more of it. To be fair, Reus manages to surprise me a little bit with the "who," but the action itself was really minimal. Most of the suspense is on preparing for the worst rather than any actual danger. It's not that I don't like what there was, it's just that I wanted there to be more of what there wasn't.

Otherwise, this book is really satisfying. Side characters--especially Mila's awesome family--add a lot of depth, and the humor they bring is an added bonus.

I received an ARC of this book from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for my honest opinion. Thanks!

This was a fast and easy read that left me with a contented and satisfied feeling. Apparently this is the 16th book in this series. While this is NOT a new author to me, I don't think that I've read any of the books in this series. With that being said, this was absolutely fine to read as a stand alone book. It is apparent as the book progresses that there is interesting background on several of the characters, but I never felt like that information was hindering my ability to figure out what was going on.

The story revolves around Lyosha, who is the head of security for a man named Victor (THAT is something that the earlier books told us about). Lyosha meets and becomes friends with the female MC Mila. It is the classic, "I'm not good enough for you" trope that has the pair dancing around each other. We then get some drama interjected in with someone from Lyosha's past getting out of jail and trying to use Mila to hurt Lyosha. That danger causes everyone to rethink what and who is REALLY important to them.

One thing that really stood out in this book was Mila's family. The portrayal of her family was awesome, from her mother, to her sisters and their husbands - it is one big happy family that helped add some fun and levity to the story.

All in all, not an awful lot of depth, but a story that you can finish fairly quickly that will leave you with a HEA.

Thank you to NetGalley for the opportunity to review this ARC. The opinions in this review are mine and mine alone.

I became a fan of this very talented author when I read book 1 in this series and since then whenever a new book comes out, I know I am in for a treat. This one was no exception.
The main characters in this latest story are Lyosha Makanov, head of security for Viktor Ivanov whom we met in a previous story, and Mila, the girl he met when he rescue a kitten.
From the moment he meets Mila, he’s smitten . But his past keeps him from being more than just friends. She is all purity and kind and he feels he doesn’t deserve her. That doesn’t stop him from being protective of her.
Even though Mila wishes Lyosha took a step closer to a relationship , after six months she decides she must go on with her life. Never realizing that the man who invited her out for dinner is an enemy of Lyosha.
From that moment on, they get closer as the danger escalates . Will Lyosha be able to protect Mila from the evil people determined to make her a target because of him?
With a very alpha hero and a strong female character, this action packed suspense romance, will keep you engaged from the first page to the last.
Lastly, the author reminds us that life is not black and white but rather various shades of gray.
This was another winner in this author’s arsenal of great stories.
I was entrusted a copy of this book. The opinions expressed are solely my own.

It was good to read another book in the Red Stone Security series. It's been too long since I've read one. The best news is that any of these books can be read as stand-alone novels. Characters from other books make appearances and play parts in the stories, but I wasn't lost or struggling to keep up with them. In other words, they didn't upstage the main characters and were great complements to the story.

This particular book is a friends-to-lovers trope. Mila first meets Lyosha (I love his name. It's so different and even sexy) when he brings in a kitten to the animal shelter where she works. I loved that he is an animal lover and treats the cat with love and affection. That makes a great man, in my opinion. Mila was immediately attracted to Lyosha and it escalates from there.

Lyosha and Mila spend so much time together under the pretense of friendship, but the attraction between them is simmering just under the skin. I kept waiting for it to erupt and when it did, it was fire! But Lyosha thinks he's not good enough for Mila--not as a boyfriend or a husband--friends, yes. But that bell couldn't be unrung. Throw some mystery into this and a twist at the end and you've got yourself a five star read.

This book was a quick mover. I had it read in a day and enjoyed every minute of it.

*I received a free copy of this book and voluntarily left a review.

This may be book 16 in the Red Stone Security series but it can absolutely be read as a stand alone! In this one we finally get Lyosha's story!! Lyosha met Mila by chance when he brought a stray cat into the animal shelter that she volunteer's at, and ever since then he hasn't been able to get her off his mind. But he won't go there with her and makes the decision that they should just be friends. He skirts the law regularly for his job and he wants to keep her safe not only from the people he may come into contact now but also from his past. But when trouble finds Mila, he will do anything to keep her safe.

I absolutely loved this story! Lyosha wants Mila so bad that he is willing to just be her friend, just because he thinks his past will touch her if they are more. He is definitely this Alpha male bada** but he also has so much heart to him. And I loved that about him! Mila comes across as a marshmallow in the beginning, but she has a spine of steel! She isn't afraid to stand up for what she not only believes in but what she wants to happen in her own life. These two are absolutely perfect for each other! The story line was great and didn't lag in any way, and the suspense part of it kept me reading and wanting to know more right from the beginning. I am so glad this author returned to this world! Loved it and can't wait for the next one!

Secret Enemy is not the Red Stone Security of old. In fact, Red Stone is a backdrop to the story with no actual involvement.

Lyosha Vasiliev and Mila Nowak meet when Lyosha stops in the vet office with a kitten. Both are attracted to each other, but instead of acting on it, the male/female games begin. Lyosha believes Mila is too good for him, and Mila believes she's out of Lyosha's league because of class. Lyosha used to be the driver for Viktor Ivanov and is now his head of security. Lyosha, like Viktor, has money and owns a big house. Viktor and Lyosha haven't always been on the up and up but are now legit.

Months later, Lyosha and Mila have stuck up a platonic friendship, and he was able to get Mila in with Red Stone through Viktor's wife, Dominique. Meanwhile, Lyosha and Mila continue to dance around their feelings. Lyosha has met and spent time with Mila's family and helped her move into her condo, scared off her roommate's boyfriend-but they're still just friends. Ugh (highly overused)!

Finally, Lyosha makes a move on Mila and catastrophically ends their friendship and any pending romantic relationship. Mila is hurt and confused by Lyoysha's actions and moves on. The only problem is Mila moves on with the wrong man. A dangerous man uses her as a pawn for revenge, and it could get her or someone in her family killed. Luckily for Mila, Lyosha and his team are available to protect her and her family from the current threat.

There is not much action in Secret Enemy, and the usual Red Stone action, adventure, and danger is missing, so as the latest installment in the series, not the best, but a decent read.
