Dannie Barnes has lived life based on the idea of a level playing field, but as a new horse show season begins show politics and the personal agendas of some put her certainty in danger. Show attendees and staff absolutely do not wish to be treated equally and a friend of many years can not abide her inability to coax Dannie to her way of thinking. But at the heart of it, Dannie finds the steadfast support for one of her dear est friends threatens her work, her friendships, and the reputation that means everything to her. The one constant is her husband, Detective Jeff Barnes, but even at home Dannie is faced with helping her young son as he learns to be responsible and accept the consequences of his actions. Through it all the question becomes can she maintain her conviction to always do the correct thing when the lines between right and wrong blur more with each passing day.
Born and raised in Northern California, award-winning author, Anne Polli, spent over thirty years in and around the horse industry. After studying Animal Science at UC Davis she bred Thoroughbred horses for the show ring. However, most of those years were spent traveling to hunter/jumper shows in California, Nevada, Arizona and Colorado as part of the show staff. No matter where life took her, she never made the trip without a notebook or journal to feed her fire to write.
Anne particularly enjoys writing strong women characters, or those that manage to find strength within where they believed there was none. She also enjoys the challenge of tackling moral or ethical dilemmas in such a way that the reader draws their own conclusions rather than be led to a particular way of thought.
Recently, she partnered with her daughter, Ryan, an artist and graphic designer, to produce the children's book, Mason the Magnificent. It champions the idea of being happy with yourself exactly as you are and seeing the good in all things.
She lives in rural Northern California with her husband, a rescued fox red Lab and a tough-as-nails cat. She is thankful for the continued support and encouragement of her family.
And in my own opinion, I believe a tru victim would not assault an inocent
Ms. Polli has definitely got it right once again. You don’t have to be a horse person to be swept up into her stories. She dives into her subjects that twist and turn, and forces you to make up your own mind. And in my own opinion I do not believe a true victim would subject an innocent person into the rabbit hole where there is no such thing as “Innocent until proven guilty” and never should one person alone be allowed to decide another’s lifetime fate!!! Whew, I’m telling you this book makes you think! Btw there might be a few Cinderella’s thrown in!
Interesting to read about what goes on.behind the scenes and the work every one has to do! I showed myself and did not even think how it was all put together, just showed up with my horse!
