The connection between the media and popular culture is inextricably linked. What we listen to, watch and consume, influences our way of life, and shapes the stories that content creators tell through mass media. With digitalisation, the ways in which storytellers reach their audience have evolved significantly.
Navigating Disruption: Media Relations in the Digital Age offers an insight into this digital evolution through the eyes of a working-level journalist. This book tells the story of the seismic shift in media operations in both US and Singapore newsrooms between 2011 and 2015, when Bertrand Teo witnessed the cascading impact of digitalisation in newsrooms across transnational borders.
His foray into public relations – post-journalism – helped him to frame the impact of digitalisation on Singapore audiences. Bertrand shares his take on media consumption habits among youth and how PR tactics have adapted to the evolving media landscape.
Bertrand is a Master’s candidate, journalist, and the author of the newly-launched book “Navigating Disruption: Media Relations in the Digital Age”. The book tells the digital transformation story of legacy newsrooms and the rise of new media players in Singapore. It also offers insights and advice from industry thought leaders for communications professionals, on topics such as campaign planning, storytelling, and future trends.
This is a long overdue review. I started reading the book last year and finally found time to write a review here. It should be the first book that I read that shared on view point with Singapore as a base as well as communications, media, PR, etc of the recent years. It is always nice to hear from someone of the field, as well as understandable steps of how situations are handled. The book is well expressed with good flow, easy to read and understand for layman like me.
