Chances Inlet #3

Second Chance Christmas

Rate this book

Chances Inlet is the home of second chances. Too bad not everyone wants one. Not even for Christmas . . .

Chances Inlet, North Carolina is the last place major leaguer Ryan McAlister wants to hide from the media to rest up his broken hand. He left his gossipy, Christmas-obsessed hometown in the dust over a decade ago. When he gets caught up in the town’s holiday antics, he finds himself responsible for making a little boy’s Christmas wish come true. The kid’s widowed mother, however—a blast from Ryan’s past—just might make his stay a bit more exciting.

Physical therapist Jane Sheffield loves her hometown. Especially at Christmastime. Since this may be her last in Chances Inlet, she’s determined to make the most of it with her young son. But after her childcare falls apart, she gets more than she bargained for when her best friend’s younger brother volunteers to help out. The rebellious teen she tutored in high school has grown up into a sexy charmer and so much more than the pretty face he pretends to be.
Can a stray dog, the Ghost of Christmas past, and a host of meddling townsfolk muster up enough Christmas spirit to convince Ryan and Jane to give their hometown—and each other--a second chance?

This book is the third book in a family saga but can be read as a standalone.

Tracy Solheim writes books with shirtless men on the cover. Some of them are actually best-sellers. The books, not the men. When she's not writing, she's practicing her curling. . . bottles of wine, that is. She's been known to cook dinner but no more than two nights in a row. Most days, she'd rather be reading, which to her is just necessary research. She lives in the suburbs of Atlanta with her husband and a neurotic Labrador retriever. Her two adult children visit but not often enough. (See the note above about cooking.) Sign up for her newsletter at https://www.tracysolheim.com/ to see what she’s up to. Second Chance Christmas by Tracy Solheim
Christmas romance
This is Ryan McAlister and Jane Sheffield's story.
His mother and sister were standing at the foot of his bed. One of them bearing coffee, judging by the scent wafting through the air.
This was exactly why he should have rented a condo over by the golf course instead of staying at his mother’s B & B.
Maybe if he just feigned sleep, they would go away. It wouldn’t be a lie.
“For crying out loud. I can dress myself!” Ryan called after her.
THE SCENTS OF Christmas— pine, cinnamon, cloves, and vanilla--enveloped Jane Sheffield as soon as she stepped through the front door of the Tide Me Over Inn.
While freshly cut fir and pine boughs gorgeously decorated the wraparound porch outside, the Victorian inn’s interior was adorned with stunning magnolia wreathes and garland, all of it held in place by red tartan bows and twinkling soft-white lights.
The effect was, as always, enchanting. She paused to soak it all in, letting the anxiety of the past few days seep from her shoulders. Christmas in Chances Inlet had a way of making everything brighter.
Now more than ever, it was important they make as many memories of Christmas in Chances Inlet as they could.
“Don’t worry. They all behave when they know Santa is watching,” Kate McAlister-Bryant said from beside Jane.
I highly recommend reading.
Second Chance Christmas by Tracy Solheim is a wonderful well written 5 star book.
I am looking forward to reading more books by Tracy Solheim.

Ryan a hotshot baseball player who hates visiting his hometown of Chances Inlet. Home for the holidays and his brothers double wedding, he runs into his HS tutor Jane. Jane and Ryan start out as friends helping each other as it evolves into something more. Having it survive past the holidays is worth fighting for. Loved seeing past characters in their HEA.
Christmas spirit is in Chances Inlet makes me wish it was a real place to visit.

This small-town Christmas story focuses around a single mom and an injured baseball player. Jane has a little boy that wants a dad for Christmas and since Santa didn’t deliver last year, he is mad at Santa. Unfortunately for Ryan, his mom and sister roped him into playing Santa in these festivities-obsessed town. Too bad he didn’t read the rule book first. He has always been the Maverick of his over-achieving family but he and an adorable four-legged visitor stir up all kinds of mess for Jane (and Ryan and Ryan’s family and Santa himself.) This book was wonderful. I couldn’t put it down! I did read this as an ARC and I’m so glad I did. This HEA sure kick-started my Christmas spirit early.

I love a second chance romance. Tracy Solheim wrote a touching story of Ryan McAlister, an injured major leaguer and Jane Sheffield, a physical therapist. Jane is a widow and trying to make her last Christmas in Chances Inlet a memorable one for her young son. When her childcare plans fall apart, Ryan volunteers to assist her. Will many adventures and Christmas memories bring these two together? You will have to read to find out. It is a great story.

I received an advance copy and I agreed to give an honest review.

This may not be what you consider your typical Christmas romance in the fact it isn’t set in a snowy location. However, this small town Christmas romance is not lacking one bit. I am not from the eastern coast line, North Carolina to be more specific, but I am from the south where a snowy Christmas season has been so few some may say they are nonexistent. It was nice to see a location setting I was somewhat familiar with.

In Second Chance Christmas, the focus is on Ryan, who not only is a professional baseball player but also the youngest brother. I loved seeing the layers of Ryan revealed as the book progressed. Poor Ryan - not only did he get roped into being Santa for the B&B but he also broke a major Santa rule. The bond Ryan had with Henry melted my heart. If that wasn’t enough to fall head over heels for Ryan, we have Kringle. The stray dog Ryan found at the family’s B&B. Swoon.

Jane, the heroine, is a young widow and Ryan’s sister’s best friend. After the loss of her husband, she moved back to Chance Inlet where she lived during her high school years. Not only does she have a doctorate in Physical Therapy, she is well loved by her patients. Her six year old son, Henry, has a very unique Christmas want for Santa. Couldn’t help but laugh and think what a sweet little boy. His request isn’t for himself but for his mom.
I haven’t been in Jane’s shoes but I could easily see her position.

Ryan’s reactions around Jane and vice versa always made me smile and I couldn’t wait to see the next interaction. One can also see the difference time makes between high school and real life experiences. I fell in love with Ryan and wanted to be friends with Jane. Of course, I wanted to spoil Henry like crazy. All the boxes were checked for what I look for in not only a Christmas book but a great romance book. Not everyone has a professional baseball player in their hometown but the reaction of the town to Ryan was realistic to me as far as their pride in him. I was swept away even through the realistic tone of the book. The McAlister family is one family that is easy to love and I hope we see them throughout many stories to come.

Second Chance Christmas by Tracy Solheim, book three in her Chances Inlet series, for a wonderful, heart-warming romance filled with the magic of Christmas. Professional ballplayer, Ryan, has returned to Chances Inlet to recover from an injury, lay low, and partakes in the wedding festivities for his older brothers; but being home is the last place he wants to be. Soon, Ryan is caught up in all the celebrations, playing Santa at his mom’s inn’s children’s breakfast. Hearing the wish from Henry, best friend of his niece, Emily, puts Ryan in a bit of hot water. Henry wants a boyfriend for his mom, for her to have some fun in her life. Instead, Ryan promises a puppy, which is the number one rule not to do in the Santa handbook; making him feel responsible for fulfilling Henry’s wishes.

Jane, a physical therapist, is a young widow, loves raising her son, Henry in Chances Inlet, but this will be their last Christmas there; if her in-laws have their way. When her best friend, Ryan’s older sister, goes on bed-rest, Jane’s childcare falls apart; Ryan offers to help. Jane helped Ryan back in the day, tutoring him. Discovering a lost puppy in the garage of the inn, Ryan knows this is a sign, and brings the pup to Jane’s, for Henry to help raise and name. It doesn’t take long for the strong chemistry, magnetic attraction, and former crushes, to connect Ryan and Jane; even if it’s only for a short while. Chances Inlet is known for its people getting second chances; maybe Ryan and Jane will get more time together than just the holidays.

Ms. Solheim wrote a wonderful, holiday romance story, with a young boy, and his dog that should not to be missed. She provided a tale rich with magnetic attraction, sizzling chemistry, clever banter, and endearing characters, mainly family, giving Ryan and Jane a chance for a love and a future together with Henry and Kringle, the pup. I highly recommend Second Chance Christmas to other readers.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.

I really enjoyed this book! When major league ball player Ryan McAllister comes home for his brother’s Christmas weddings he makes it very clear that he’s not happy to be home. Years before Ryan had a dustup with his dad at Christmas that was never resolved before his dads untimely death. The one thing Ryan is happy about is seeing Jane Sheffield, his sister’s friend. He’s always had a thing for her but she tutored him at one point and he thinks she agrees with the townwide feeling that he’s basically a screwup.
Jane, feels a pretty strong attraction when she sees Ryan again. As a young widow with her little boy, she has to be careful about who she introduces into her circle of acquaintances. She also is dealing with her in-laws wanting her to move closer to them and leave Chances inlet.
What I found interesting about this book was how guilt drove both Ryan and Jane in the decisions they were making about their lives. Ryan can’t let go of his nasty words uttered to his father and Jane worries that she isn’t enough for her son Henry. They are both successful people who should be on top of the world but are weighed down by baggage they themselves have loaded on.
I enjoyed reading about Ryan slowly worming his way into Janes affections, partially by his relationship with her son Henry, but also because he is basically a good guy and she is able to see that. I enjoyed seeing Jane grow confident in herself as a mother and decide to work on her happiness. The interactions with all of the other characters as you get with the small town story, added to my enjoyment of the book. I love the ending and especially a big teaser about what I assume is a future book in the series.

I received an advanced reader copy of this book to leave an honest review. I have not read the Chances Inlet series until this book but have read other of Tracy Solheim's work. This book did not disappoint! In fact I've already purchased one of the other books in the series to catch up. This can be read as a stand alone however.

This book follows Ryan, a local boy turned baseball player who is home for a few weeks for Christmas, and Jane, a young widow with a son who has been acting up. Ryan and Jane already knew each from growing up as Jane was best friends with Ryan's older sister. However, their connection is much different now as adults and are spending time together. Ryan is a bit at loose ends while he recovers from an injury and ends up bonding with Henry, Jane's young son. Ryan is also finding that the memories that have kept him from Chances Inlet are a bit different than he remembers.

There are quite a few shenanigans as Ryan plays Santa and promises Henry a dog and Christmas magic provides an adorable little stray for them all to love. Plus Ryan's crazy family that gets involved in everything, a truck to fix up for the Christmas parade and trying to hide his relationship with Jane. As Jane and Ryan grow closer and explore their relationship, Jane realizes Ryan will never come back to Chances Inlet for good and she won't leave. As Ryan starts to get more involved with Jane, he is realizing maybe the town he was so cynical about has been behind him all along.

This is a great small town romance. Very well written with lots of family, love and humor. I would definitely recommend.

If you are looking for a magical read look not further than Second Chance Christmas set in the wonderful town of Chances Inlet, North Carolina. Let’s be honest even the names of this town has a magical feel about it and once you add in that the town is Obse with Christmas you get a book that will certainly insert some holiday spirit. This is physical therapist Jane Sheffield and professional baseball player Ryan McAlister’s Chance at love.
Ryan left his home town to pursue a baseball career but an injury has him back home for the holidays, he family and this town are all about Christmas and as soon as he arrives home he is roped into playing Santa. Without the Santa handbook he ends up promising Christmas wishes that can’t be done to a little boy and that in turn brings him face to face with Jane again.
It’s obvious from the moment these two meet again that the attraction is still there but Ryan is only meant to back in town for the holidays so what happens when the whole town starts to encourage a relationship for Ryan and Jane.
I loved everything about this book, I fell hard and fast for the town and it’s quirky characters, I was drawn in from the first page and I was captivated until the last magical word was read but what took this book to another level was the relationship Ryan built with Jane’s little boy Henry. This is the first book I have read in this series, so I can vouch that this is a true stand-alone but I will be checking out the previous books in this series as soon as time perfects. I guess all that’s left to say is please one click this magical read.

Ryan McAlister was a professional baseball player who was living the high life of fame and fortune. It all came crashing down when not only was injured, the media was searching for more hot bad new gossip on him. He went running back to the hometown he ran from a decade earlier because of its fascination with Christmas. But it wasn’t long before he got all caught up in the spirit of Christmas, making a promise to a little boy that he wasn’t sure he could keep. It also might not have helped that it was someone he knew back in high school who definitely grew up in more ways than one.

Jane Sheffield was the local physical therapist who loved her hometown, her son and even though he had been gone for years, keeping her husbands spirit alive as much as possible everywhere. Including making a decision to move closer to his parents to please them, even though it was not something she truly wanted to do. Between outrageous promises, child care falling apart and a blast from the past, this might turn out to be a Christmas no one would forget.

These two had an instant connection, one felt not just by them but by the entire town. So a little bit of meddling, a carefully planted stray dog, and the Ghost of Christmas past bring them together and make sure that neither one of them left the hometown that they both truly loved.

This book definitely lives up to its title in more ways than one. Tracy has worked her magic in putting something together you on one hand never want to end and on the other you want to so you can see if Ryan and Jane will end up together. It is one that you need to add to your read list and capture the Christmas spirit.

Second Chance Christmas is book 3 in the series, here is Ryan and Jane's story.
Ryan McAlister has returned home to his small town of Chances Inlet for the holidays and his brothers' weddings.
Ryan is a professional baseball player, based in New York and currently recovering from a broken hand while staying low from all the media attention he receives.
Jane Sheffield is Ryans' older sister Kate's best friend who just happens to be the town's physical therapist. Jane is now a young widow with a son called Henry.

Ryan steps in to help the town out playing Santa when Henry steps up to ask for Santa's help with finding him a dad for Christmas and a puppy. Two manger things Santa cannot promise! Not known to Ryan at this time that Henry is Jane's son!
Can the help of a stray dog bring in some very much-needed Christmas romance into the hearts of Ryan and Jane?
I totally loved this book and fell in love with Ryan and his family from the very beginning. I also love Tracy's writing, though I have only read the two previous books in this series.
Second Chance Christmas is a beautiful Christmas romance with very strong characters that made it believable, I felt that I was there too.
I know this is a three-book series, but I really hope that Tracy might extend, I felt that there are more characters that need their own story. With an update to all the McAlister family:)
Thank you, Tracy, for a brilliant story. I was lucky to receive this for my honest review, I hope you too will enjoy this book as much as I have.

5 star review of Second Chance Christmas by Tracy Solheim
I was hooked on this book from the first chapter. I love the sound of Chances Inlet, North Carolina and could easily see myself there, add in that the town is Christmas obsessed and I was all in. This is professional baseball player Ryan McAlister and physical therapist Jane Sheffield’s story.
One of the things that I enjoy the most about reading stories set in small towns is that everyone always has an opinion and have no problems sticking their noses where they are not always welcome. Ryan, left his home town behind years ago and had no intention of returning, until injury and some bad press has him heading home.
Despite himself, he soon finds himself immersed in the antics of the town and the holiday spirit. When he is tasked with helping a little boy’s Christmas wish come true , he is surprised to come face to face with Jane again.
The connection between Ryan and Jane is instant and I loved how the whole town banded together to “encourage” their relationship. The characters were quirky and watching the town become so invested was entertaining.
I enjoyed Ms. Solheim’s style of writing, it was engaging with characters that were easy to relate to and who you cannot help but want to get their happily ever after. Although I haven't read the previous books in the serious I had no trouble reading this as a stand alone, however I enjoyed this book so much that I am going to check out the other books as soon as possible.

A wonderful heart warming Christmas romance, that is a must read this season. Ryan, professional baseball player has returned to Chances Inlet to recover from an injury, but it's the last place he wanted to spend his holidays. But soon he is caught up in all of hoopla of the festivities, he even gets to play Santa. Ryan now feels responsible for a little boy's wishes of a new puppy and a boyfriend for his mom.

Jane, is a young widow raising her son, Henry in Chance Inlet. This will be their last Christmas here, so she is trying to enjoy all of festivities, to make everything magical. When childcare falls apart, Ryan steps up to help. Ryan and Jane knew each other from their earlier years. A lost puppy shows up that Ryan and Henry take in, Kringle. Soon Jane and Ryan can't deny the chemistry that they share, even though it is for short term.

This story gave so many warm fuzzies for the holiday season, from the romance, the decorations, the holiday food and baking. Loved Kringle the puppy, even though he made me cry. Jane and Ryan realized home is where the heart is.

This book is part of series but can be read as a stand alone. I highly recommend this wonderful Christmas romance,

Professional baseball player Ryan McAlister returns home to Chances Inlet, North Carolina to stay out of the media and to rest his broken hand. Ryan ends up playing Santa for his mom and feels responsible for a little boy’s Christmas wish for his mother. Promises he might not be able to keep. Widowed mother is Jane Sheffield, who is a physical therapist and and a girl from high school, who tutored him. Jane loves her town, her son, Henry, and her job, even though she moved there to be closer to her in-laws. When childcare falls through, her best friend’s brother offers to help. It just happens to be Ryan. The more time he spends with Henry and Jane, the stronger his feelings get. What could go wrong? Interference from in-laws wanting her to move to their town, a spark of chemistry, a little boy, a stray dog? Plenty of people in the town also sees the chemistry. Will he leave and go back to professional baseball? Will his hand get better? Will Jane take a job that will bring her to the same town as her in-laws? Can everyone come together and have a wonderful Christmas? Will Henry get his Christmas wish for his mother? This couple struggles but they are meant to be together. Have yourself a spicy sweet small-town Christmas !

After a potential career-ending injury, baseball superstar Ryan heads to his hometown to rehab and reconnect with his family.
While home, his first extended stay since his Dad passed away many years before, he gets volunteered by his mom for roles he is not thrilled to do; like being the town Santa- A very HOT town Santa.
This light-hearted book has all my must-have Christmas romance elements: ; An intelligent, accomplished, and strong female lead, a hot smart male lead; a cute stray puppy, and multi-generational family teasing and support.
The story arc of the challenges Ryan and Jane are dealing with are really relatable too: grappling with how to evolve through a life shattering event.
My favorite bit however, is the underlying issue that is woven through the story. What does a “male role model” mean? Father, Step-dad, grandpa, brother, friend, teacher, coach? Or..perhaps,it can also be a lonely kindergartener?
I loved reading this story. Beach town, a cute stray dog, funny, and a hot romance. Tracy hits all the Christmas romance notes with a funny and lighthearted steamy romance.

I absolutely LOVED this heartwarming story! In Tracy Solheims “Second Chance Christmas, we meet Major Leaguer Ryan McAlister. He is back home in his small town of Chances Inlet while he waits on his broken hand to heal. He’s back home surrounded by family and helping out with his moms business. Ryan plans on doing the usual….visit the family, do the holiday thing and get back to the city….that is until he sees Jane. Jane is his sister’s best friend with a little boy. He starts seeing Jane and her son more and more while home, and finds himself helping her out more and less likely to rush back to his routine. This story takes you on a sleigh ride into romance with a lovable boy and a sweet dog that can steal any heart! This is a wonderful Holiday story with the perfect amount of holiday cheer! I highly recommend this read to everyone!!

This is the third book in the series and the first one I've read. It can be read as a standalone, but trust me I will be going back to read the two previous books. This book had me with a single mom romance. Then I was even more excited when I found out Ryan is a baseball player. Plus this book takes place during the holiday season. This books has the makings of a perfect recipe for me! There is so much more to Ryan then he even realizes. That man is going to be having you swoon. Right from the beginning he had me and he kept proving himself through out the book. The scenes with Henry and Ryan melted my heart. I loved the McAlister clan. They are a great bunch of people that had me hooked on this book as well. All the holiday activities make me want to go visit this small town. This is a must read! It's the perfect book to get into the holiday spirit!

Sometimes we stray away from what is right in front of us. Sometimes that is love- love from family, love from a community, romantic love, etc. While trying to decide the path his life should go after his professional baseball career, Ryan is forced to return to his hometown for the holidays and the wedding preparations for two of his siblings. Jane, a young widow, and his sister’s best friend is trying to decide the best path she should follow for her son and career. But life is all about “ Second Chances” especially at Christmas as they reunite and romance between ignites between them. Perhaps a little “gift of a stray puppy “, from Santa is all it takes to form a bond that helps cement a relationship. “ Sometimes, we have to make the choice that brings us happiness. This is truly a Christmas romance not only for Ryan and Jane . But also, their family and friends and the town of Chances Inlet.

Oh goodness, what a an endearing Christmas read. Smalltown✔ Christmas Wonderland✔ Droolworthy Hero✔ Droolworthy Santa✔ Heroine Mom✔ Small Boy✔and Furbaby✔
This is like all the Christmas classics rolled into one magical Christmas Season.
Ryan has a ghost from Christmas Past he needs to make amends with (in his heart) so he can move forward by coming back "home".
Jane also has a ghost keeping her from moving forward for herself and for her son, Henry.
Together they find "love" but it's only supposed to be a finite fling, hah, try telling their hearts that. These two complete the other, at least reading their journey made me feel that way, and I loved it.
All the secondary characters made it just that much better; whether it was razzing or with words of wisdom. All leading to a Happily Ever After that had me happily sighing.
I received an ARC from the author. All thoughts and opinions are totally my own.

Second Chance Christmas
Once again Tracy has hit a home run with Second Chance Christmas. As always her characters have many layers that you peel back and get to know throughout the book. I was so glad to get to read Ryan’s story and Jane was the perfect match. I love stories that involve kids and Henry was did not disappoint, you fall in love with this little guy. It was fun to catch up with the McAlister clan and others. This is a wonderful Christmas book that is part of a series but can be easily read as a stand alone. However, once you meet the others you will probably want to read their stories. Another to add to my Tracy Solheim collection😁.

I really enjoy this author's writing, it flows so smoothly. You'll just absorb yourself into this small town and it's characters including Santa and next thing you know your kindle smacks you in the face as it's past your bedtime.
I got to know the characters more in this Christmas romance and the town that's grown on me. It's not just about small town gossip and judgemental people, it's how a village takes care of it's own.
I really enjoyed Ryan the baseball player and Jane the young widow's story along with her son Henry and Kringle the stray dog, and the rest of the family. They all deserved their second chance at love and life.
Great story, I highly recommend it.

This was definitely an emotional read. There was a pull of the heartstrings right from the beginning. The story was also cute & funny as we watch the McAllister family get ready for a double wedding during the holidays. The emotions run high as everyone thinks they know the real Ryan, the superstar playboy & magnet for trouble, but no one really does until he literally runs into Jane his former tutor & his sister’s best friend. As they get to know each other again he allows Jane in on the secrets he’s kept from his family & Jane allows him into her very scheduled life. As Jane deals with the behaviour problem of her young son, Ryan befriends him & helps Jane to see that she’s a great mom. He also gives her the advice to start thinking of herself & living for herself, not just for her son & her late husband’s parents. As she deals with decisions being made on her behalf, she also starts to see why Ryan doesn’t come home often & tries help him as well. As in all great stories they fall in love with each other but there’s no communication just unanswered questions & heartbreak occurs. I really enjoyed the character of Ryan’s stepfather Lamar, he was a great font of assurance & thoughtful advice. I also loved the characters of Emily (Ryan’s niece & Henry (Jane’s son) the young best friends who are going to marry each other someday. I definitely enjoyed how author Tracy Solheim took baseball star Ryan through a series of challenges & changes in a hometown he wanted nothing to do with & ended up falling in love in, in the end. Definitely recommend this book. Thank you to author Tracy Solheim for gifting me a copy for an honest review.

Home is where the heart is. Or is it family and friends? A sweet romance that does have steamy moments that I skipped over. Young children and a dog add heart and humor. A double wedding. Lots packed in the emotional story. I want more about this family, including its extended members. Thanks to the author for providing a copy for my voluntary review.

Second Chance Christmas is a wonderful Christmas romance with lots of humor, Santa antics and an adorable stray dog. It was so much fun returning to the small town of Chances Inlet to spend the holidays with the McAlisters. I loved every minute of Ryan and Jane's story!

Ryan McAlister and Jane Sheffield would never have been on anyone’s most likely to be a couple list, except maybe teen Ryan’s. He’s now a successful professional baseball player who visits home as little as possible and she’s a wildly gifted physical therapist who loves her hometown unreservedly.

When they have a chance to spend a bit more time in the time leading up to Christmas, they discover how much they enjoy each other’s company, and how truly they see each other’s real selves, not simply what they typically reveal to the world at large.

Tracy Solheim’s writing is warm and lovely, and Jane and Ryan’s story is beautifully engrossing. Don’t miss this lovely Christmas read!
