Melissa’s debut (which I cannot believe is a debut, because it’s freaking incredible!) is a heart wrenching story about unexpected love and following your dreams, with a side of donut jokes (which I loved, btw), and is the first installation in her Midnight in Dallas series. The reverse age-gap, rockstar trope sucked me in immediately, and remained a prominent theme throughout the novel. I loved it! I loved it! I loved it! I don’t know how many more times I can say it!
Liv and Jax’s story us unputdownable, and had my heart racing the entire time. I became so invested in these characters and their world; I was laughing with them, crying with them, and giddily cheering them on the entire way through. Liv is such a strong and brave woman, even more so when she chose to cook chilli for an already-raunchy group of men crammed on a tour bus (I don’t think I’d ever be that brave!). And Jax is such a lovable guy, sweet as Krispy Kremes, and is hot, hot, hot! I loved their meet-cute. Hostile kitty - that’s all I’ll say!
There are so many other things I love about this book! Firstly, it’s told in dual POV, which is my favourite way to read a story. Secondly, Liv’s best friend, Ella, reminded me so much of my best friend in how she’s able to see Liv without any obscurities and refuses to put up with her self-piety. But she’s also there when Liv needs her most, and sticks by her side through the think of it all. Other than the main love story, this relationship is the one I loved the most. And thirdly, it just gave me all the feels.
