Midnight in Dallas #1

Home Is Where You Are

Rate this book
Olivia Sinclair left her dreams of a music career behind, along with her hopes for love and a family. With her husband having left her for more fertile pastures, she’s content to focus her energy on her thriving bakery, a new home, and an ornery rescue cat named Mama. That is until Liv’s best friend drags her to a concert where she meets the handsome (and much younger) frontman of the popular band, Midnight in Dallas.

Jaxon Slade is looking for a little inspiration. Up against a deadline, his ability to write music has escaped him. But when he meets Liv backstage, all of that changes. Jax is instantly captivated by her witty sense of humor and effortlessly beautiful voice. As the two grow closer, he begins to see a future with Liv by his side. All he has to do is convince her that their connection is worth the risk.

But when Jax suggests taking their relationship to the stage as a duo, fame makes some of the most painful details of Liv’s past public, testing her belief in their relationship and herself. Liv must decide between being the woman the world and her ex told her she was, or choosing the woman she was always meant to be. Home Is Where You Are, the first in the Midnight In Dallas series, is a story of love, friendship, and the family we choose.

When I received this book in the mail, I started reading it immediately thinking I just want to read the first chapter. Well, a few hours later, I messaged Melissa and told her I had finished the book and how I loved and enjoyed it so much! I just couldn’t put it down. The pacing was great and I just needed to find out where Liv and Jax’s relationship were headed. The writing was fabulous! This is Melissa Grace’s debut and I now have another favorite! This book is also the first in the series and I cannot wait to read more!⁣

Olivia Sinclair’s life was not quite headed where she had planned. With her failed marriage and giving up her career in music, her best friend Ella knows just what to do to cheer her up, and takes her to a Midnight In Dallas concert! Scoring a backstage pass, they meet the band members. Jaxon Slade the band frontman is completely smitten with Liv. As he gets to know Liv, she becomes his inspiration to write music, and even more! The motley crew of characters are a delight to read about, from the cat to the band mates, you will laugh, cry, and swoon in this fun and wonderful debut!⁣

First of all, i'd like to thank Melissa for giving me the opportunity to read this book for free.
This was my first read by Melissa Grace & I loved every second of it! Its a reverse age gap, which took me a little by surprise.
With her failed marriage and giving up her career in music, Olivia was devastated until her best friend Ella showed up with tickets to Mindnight in Dallas concert with backstage pass, there they meet the band, Jaxon Slade, the band's frontman, is completely smitten with Liv. . As he gets to know her, she inspires him to write music and so much more! From the cat to the band members, the diverse cast of characters is a joy to read about.
Jax is such a supportive book boyfriend!I appreciated how he encouraged Liv to keep trying and reminded her that she was never too old to pursue her musical ambitions.
While Home Is Where You Are may appear cheesy on the surface, Melissa includes a high level of depth in this book, including topics such as miscarriage, death, and drug abuse

I can't believe I waited so long to read this INCREDIBLE start to what I am sure is going to be one of my favorite series. Set in Nashville, this reverse age gap, friends to lovers, dual POV, rockstar romance gave me ALL THE FEELS!!!

Funny and absolutely full of heart, the cast of characters in this book are all so strong in their own rights. Liv is a recently divorced bakeshop owner who had dreams of being a singer and when she, her best friend Ella, and Ella's daughter Grace, go to a Midnight in Dallas concert they get to meet the band.

The sparks between Liv and Jax, the lead singer, are instantaneous but it takes Liv a while to warm up to his charms since she's afraid nothing meaningful could work between them. Struggling with writer's block, Liv helps Jax start writing some songs and along the way the two form a deep bond that neither can resist.

Jax is such a supportive book boyfriend! I loved how he encouraged Liv to keep trying and reminded her that she wasn't too old to chase after musical dreams. Full of humor, amazing found family and soooo many swoony moments. I seriously cannot recommend this book enough and have no idea how the author is going to top this mind blowing debut.

Perfect for fans of The happy ever after playlist by Abby Jimenez, When in Rome by Sarah Adams or The idea of you by Robinne Lee. This book is a prime of example of why you shouldn't discount indie authors, it will definitely be going on my favorites of the year pile and I can't wait to devour the next two books in the series!

arc kindly provided by the author

first of all, i'd like to thank melissa for giving me the opportunity of being her first arc reader. this book has feel extra special to me because of that <3

home is where you are is the story of olivia and jaxon. olivia has always wanted to be a singer even though bad circunstances stole her dream when she was younger. jaxon is the lead vocalist of midnight in dallas, and they both meet during a meet & greet olivia attends to with her best friend ella and her niece, grace, ella's daughter.

jaxon and olivia's story is romantic and heartfelt. there's an age gap between them, but i was gladly surprised to see it was olivia who's the older one. i enjoy age gaps romances and reading heroines who are older is always great. another thing i loved was the found family trope in it. the family the band and the girls form is super beautiful, i enjoyed their common scenes a lot. i was glad when i found out this is a series, because i'd love to read more about this characters in a future! <3

I received a copy from the author in exchange for a review.

I’m usually iffy about rockstar romances, or romances featuring famous characters, but oh my goodness! This was absolutely adorable.

It’s so refreshing to stumble across a romance with a heroine in her late thirties. With a guarded heart from a recent divorce, Liv splits her time between her successful bakery in Nashville and sitting at home with her feisty cat, Mama. Encouraged by her best friend, Ella, to attend a concert and backstage meet-and-greet, Liv is introduced to Jaxon Slade, the charming frontman of Midnight in Dallas.

Filled with donut puns, kitchen dancing, and bantering bandmates, this was such a sweet, closed-door romance. Having an eight year gap between them, with Liv being the older one (woo!), I sympathized with her concerns of feeling unable to provide the future Jax desires.

Jax, persistent and equipped with a batmobile, had a confidence about him towards Liv that I adored. I did find he fell too hard too fast, but the romantic gestures and sweet words to prove his commitment was lovely!

As they find an additional connection through music, the passion that Liv abandoned, I loved seeing Liv pushed out of her comfort zone and discover her potential. It’s never too late to chase your dreams!

The secondary cast of characters were lovely and such positive lights (and laughs!) in this story. I’m excited to see more of them and their individual romances.

Quick Synopsis: Liv is a successful bakery owner in Nashville, nearing 40 and recently divorced. To cheer her up post-divorce and get her out of the house, her friend brings her to a concert of a popular band. During their meet and greet, lead singer Jax takes a liking to Liv and so begins their love story!

The first half of the book was a HIT, I felt like I was reliving my teenage dreams of having one of the Jonas Brothers notice and fall in love with me at a concert (I was torn between Nick and Joe, sorry Kev).

I love a dual narration, so following Liv and Jax’s story through both of their eyes was fun! I will say, their romance did move a bit fast for me, to a point where it was a lot of ups and downs in a quick turnaround.

While at the surface level Home Is Where You Are might seem a bit too cheesy, but Melissa does include a high level of depth in this book including topics of miscarriage, death, drug abuse. I also felt like it was a good reprieve between a few heavier reads.

If you are a romance lover or a Hallmark movie enthusiast, this book is the perfect book for you – go follow @heymelissagrace and read this book!

I seriously couldn’t put this book down. The way Melissa wrote just flowed beautifully. I loved this story! Liv and Jax had so much chemistry! Even though this had fade to black romance scenes you could still feel the heat between them. All the side characters made this book too. Everyone was so much fun. And I definitely saw a segway into another book! I loved the way Liv’s character developed and Jax definitely had you swooning! Such a sweet story!

Hands-down it’s my favorite book you guys. I would definitely recommend this book if you are someone who loves contemporary romance but it’s Not just romance, it’s about grief, struggle, encouragement, friendship and love. Olivia is struggling with her divorce which happened recently after so many years of being together, she owns a bakery [ one of the best bakery] But she always wanted to be in music industry that she couldn’t pursue it. Ella, her best friend took her to a concert backstage, the band ( midnight in dallas) which happens to be one of her favorite band. She gets to meet the front man Jaxon Slade. He feels something towards liv instantly and wants to know more about her and as they get to know each other jaxon wants more thatn that, he’s grieving from something which wasn’t easy for him that’s stopping him from writing music and then he gets know about liv and how she wanted to be a part of music and how angelic her voice is, Jaxon encourages her to join with him ad they’ll ace it together.
I loved Melissa Grace’s writing style, loved each and every character even the cat *hehe* Ella is the best friend one could ever ask for, Jaxon the best person who knows how to encourage your partner not with words but to help her with the whole process. Olivia, a person who teaches that to achieve something age is not the factor you should think of but it’s the hard work and how passionate you are. Jaxon’s band ( who knows how to help and be there for each other) I can’t stop ranting abot this book cz this book taught me alot. The jokes, the chemistry, dealing with problems, grief and supportive partners Gosh I need to stop blabbering. Anyways do I need to convince you more to read this book? Highly recommended! Though it’s a series but can be read as standalone

Full disclosure:1. I’ve been a fan of Melissa and her podcast for years. I feel like I know her (in a non creepy way!!) and have cheered her on. 2. I was given this as an ARC.

Now to the book: I laughed so much about the hostile kitty and donut doubt me it is funny. I smiled so many times reading about Jax and Liv. I adored the Nashville spots I know well. Then I cried.... oh the ugly tears...then I smiled and lastly I cried happy tears. Basically this book is a roller coaster! A fun roller coaster of emotions. I cannot wait for the next installment! Seriously! I know which love story I hope is next!

Lastly, this book is the perfect escape from 2020 and we all need that!

This is the first book I've read by Melissa Grace and I cannot stress how much I LOVED this story. Olivia is still recovering from her recent divorce when she meets Jaxon Slade, the lead singer for an up and coming band, Midnight in Dallas. Jax is immediately attracted to Liv and determined to get to know her better. However, Liv is cautious - not only is she still dealing with her recent divorce, but she's also nervous about their age difference, and losing her privacy if she establishes a relationship with Jax. Despite this, the two quickly establish a friendship and once Jax learns of Liv's musical talent, they begin writing music together. As the two grow closer, Jax begins to see a future with Liv, however Liv is still questioning what she truly wants, and if a relationship with Jax is really worth risking her privacy, but most importantly her heart.

Wow, wow, wow - this book took me on an emotional rollercoaster, broke my heart, and then put it back together again. Liv's character had such raw emotional depth and Jax was the most swoon-worthy cinnamon roll hero. I really enjoyed the dynamic between Liv and her best friend, Ella, as well as Jax and his bandmates. Reading this story felt like one of those warm, cozy hugs that just brightens your world. Donut delay reading this book...you'll understand that joke once you read the book! :) I can't wait to read the next installment in this series.

This was a stereotypical musician meets aspiring star love story. There was no conflict until the last 10-15% of the book so it felt a bit hallmark-y to me. Easy to read, pretty predictable. If you need a comfortable love story check it out.

Thank you to the author, Melissa Grace, for a free copy in exchange for my review.

I devoured this book in two days. I could not get enough of Jax and Liv! Liv gave up her music dreams to open a cupcakery. Her long time friend, Ella, takes her to a meet-and-greet with a famous band, and she immediately has a connection with the lead singer. This book was all sorts of cheesy goodness just like a Hallmark movie. Liv and Ella have a fierce friendship, and I love that Ella was Liv's biggest cheerleader. We all have doubts, and Ella would squash Liv's like a bug. Jax and Liv's connection took off quickly, and they fell head-over-heels. Their donut jokes were the best, and I loved the "family" that Jax had in his band. Aside from their love story, Jax and Liv were dealing with their own sets of grief and struggles. This added more depth to the novel and the plot which kept you engaged the whole time.

I really rated it 4.5 stars which rounds to 5! I only dropped it half a star because I wanted more! I felt like some of the scenes got cut short, and I was hoping for a little more steam between Jax and Liv! I am so looking forward to reading the next books by Melissa Grace!

What a perfect debut novel! Melissa Grace writes Nashville exactly right. I immediately fell in love with Jax and Liv, and every single character in this story. Truthfully, reading this book feels like a warm hug. If you like music, good food, and romance so pure, then this book is for you! Lots of quippy dialogue, laugh out loud moments, and beautiful friendships. Highly recommend!!!

Liv owns a bakery in Nashville, doing the best she can after a recent divorce. She's long since given up on music, thanks to her sleezy ex-husband that has left her jaded on love and emotionally raw. When Liv's best friend and business partner, Ella, forces Liv to attend a Midnight in Dallas concert complete with backstage passes, she meets lead singer Jax and the connection is instant. Jax is forward, confident and knows what he wants, and that's Liv. Grappling with insecurities of age and an uncertain future, Liv isn't sure if she wants to pursue a relationship with Jax. But as the two spend more time together as friends, Jax is persistent and slowly breaks down walls Liv has spent years building up. Jax and Liv's relationship is put to the test when the two decide to form a singing duo. Can they make it work when their visions for a future together look different?

I read Home is Where You are as a buddy read with the Indie Authors Book Club and I absolutely adored the book. It had quick banter, a sweet backstage meet cute, and an instant attraction between Liv and Jax that was so real, you could feel it through the pages. Plus, the setting and music is absolutely divine. If you love Nashville, you have to read this book.

What gripped me were the strong friendships in the book, not only between Liv and Ella, but also between the members of the band. It's not common that you see strong male friendships celebrated in romance novels. All the characters form a tight-knit family that are loyal to the core and exactly what I needed to read right now. I also loved all the secondary characters and am thrilled that this will be a series. I can't wait to get to know each of them on a deeper level through their individual journeys. If this debut novel is any indication of the series to come, it's going to be excellent.

The book also isn't afraid to tackle harder subjects, like grief, betrayal and childhood trauma. With the promise of a happily ever after, a romance book like this one creates a safe place for the characters to grow and the readers to journey along side them. It was all so well done. The subjects never seemed dark or force, but were part of the emotional journey of Liv and Jax that needed to be addressed in order to find themselves and their love.

I loved chatting with author Melissa Grace about her writing process, how the book changed into the final product and what's next in the series. She is an absolute doll and I am AMPED for the next book. Home is Where You Are is out now and I can't recommend it enough! If you love Sarah Adams books, this is right up your alley!

Home Is Where You Are is a super sweet rockstar romance with a heroine you'll want to root for! I loved Jax and Liv's love story, their chemistry, and the way they fit together in all facets of their lives. The music industry references were so fun and I loved watching their careers blossom along with the romance. This book features lots of side characters who will steal the show, but lucky for us, they are getting books too! So excited that this is a series and I can't to read more, especially Cash.

There’s so many amazing things I can say about this book and the author, Melissa! This was the book I needed this week. This rom com story based in my favorite place on earth/my hometown, Nashville, entrapped me SO quickly. I messaged Melissa at chapter 6 and told her that my heart couldn’t handle her book, it was that good. I flew through this read. Everything Melissa writes about Nashville is spot on, especially all of the Ryman references. Feeling such a deep connection to the city definitely enhanced this reading experience. But that’s not all that makes this read amazing. Liv (a 37-year-old divorceé remaking herself and growing into her identity) and Jax (a budding rockstar with a heart full of love) are the type of characters you love to love. Their relationship brings you all the feels. I donut want to tell you more, so I donut give anything away, but I promise you’ll LOVE this book!! (iykyk re: donut)

Thank you to the author for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Donut wait! Buy this book now! Prepare to snuggle into your coziest blanket, because once you pick up this book, you won’t want to put it down until it’s done!

Melissa’s debut (which I cannot believe is a debut, because it’s freaking incredible!) is a heart wrenching story about unexpected love and following your dreams, with a side of donut jokes (which I loved, btw), and is the first installation in her Midnight in Dallas series. The reverse age-gap, rockstar trope sucked me in immediately, and remained a prominent theme throughout the novel. I loved it! I loved it! I loved it! I don’t know how many more times I can say it!

Liv and Jax’s story us unputdownable, and had my heart racing the entire time. I became so invested in these characters and their world; I was laughing with them, crying with them, and giddily cheering them on the entire way through. Liv is such a strong and brave woman, even more so when she chose to cook chilli for an already-raunchy group of men crammed on a tour bus (I don’t think I’d ever be that brave!). And Jax is such a lovable guy, sweet as Krispy Kremes, and is hot, hot, hot! I loved their meet-cute. Hostile kitty - that’s all I’ll say!

There are so many other things I love about this book! Firstly, it’s told in dual POV, which is my favourite way to read a story. Secondly, Liv’s best friend, Ella, reminded me so much of my best friend in how she’s able to see Liv without any obscurities and refuses to put up with her self-piety. But she’s also there when Liv needs her most, and sticks by her side through the think of it all. Other than the main love story, this relationship is the one I loved the most. And thirdly, it just gave me all the feels.

Donut hesitate! Add this book to your TBR!

ARC provided by the lovely Melissa, author of this novel - thank you!

First off, I can get behind any book that is based in my hometown of Nashville. This book took me on a ride (in a batmobile, of all vehicles!) through the side roads of the Nashville outskirts and smack dab in the middle of music row. It made me smile stumbling into all these familiar references to the land that made me who I am. But even if you were to take Nashville out of the equation, the reverse age-gap novel made me loud out loud multiple times with the conversations between Jax and Liv. Their banter is hysterical!

I found myself thinking about the characters even when I wasn’t reading.
Additionally I can’t stress how fond I am that the characters have an actual deep-rooted grief that they’ve all had to overcome. They have real problems that don’t go away instantaneously, yet you never feel bogged down as a reader. Their feelings are displayed all over these pages making you feel like you’re going through situations first-hand alongside them. The pages hold so many reminders we all should be aware of and most of all, shows that happily ever after isn’t achieved without the commitment of effort.

As the reader, I want to be shown the struggle and exertion they’ll put forth to kindle love. I want to see the happy ending that is REAL. Melissa delivers.

I donut think I could live without this book 😹🍩

I didn't read the blurb and was pleasantly surprised to find a rockstar romance inside this book! It's got some insta love, a slow burn, a lot of found family and the best kind of personal growth. Liv is the owner of a successful bakery in Nashville. When her best friend takes her to a concert she is instantly attracted to the lead singer of the band. And he feels the same. Jax's sweet determination to win Liv's heart and their instant connection made me want to dive deeper into their relationship from their first moment on page. I can't wait to read the next book and fall more in love with this world and Melissa Grace's books.

A Rockstar Romance with a Swoony Cinnamon Roll Hero

Olivia Sinclair is recovering from a failed marriage, one where he held her back from being who she truly was. Because she hasn’t been getting out of the house much, her best friend convinces her to go to a concert where she meets Jax, the lead singer, backstage. Jax is immediately taken with Liv and does everything he can to get her number.

Their whirlwind romance was so fun to watch, and Jax was the sweetest ever. I loved how much he supported Liv and her dreams. I loved how they pushed each other to be the best versions of themselves. And I loved the ending. I mean, THAT ENDING.

A fun, Nashville-based, closed-door romance with plenty of character growth and a lot of heart. Definitely five stars!

Home is Where You Are is a sweet, rockstar romance between Liv & rockstar Jax. Filled with sweet moments (kitchen dancing), donut puns and strong friendships, this story is a sweet one. The found family aspect in this was one of my favorite parts. The connection between all of the characters makes you want to be a part of their group. Overall, this was a really cute romance.

Home is where you are is refreshing, real, and unique. This not just your typical romance. This is a story about a woman finding herself again after heartache.

This is a story about Jaxon and Olivia. Olivia is a mid 30s bakery owner picking up the pieces of her life after a divorce in Nashville, Tennessee. Jaxon is a late 20s rockstar who is swept off his feet the moment he lays eyes on her. Olivia takes her time letting Jaxon in her heart, but as she does her true self comes back on center stage with a guitar in hand.

This wonderful book deals with real life issues women deal with everyday. It’s a beautiful soulful read and I can’t wait to see what the author has in store next!!

Thank you Melissa for sending me a arc copy of your book.

Wow... this is one of my fav reads of the year! I loved everything about this book and read it in 3 days. I love Jax and Livs relationship and how Jax showed Liv what true love really is. I felt all the emotions that came with this book, heartache with tears in my eyes, warmth and happiness (I love books like this)❤ Livs friendship with Ella and her niece Grace is a friendship that's really special. I was sad when the book ended, but I'm really relieved that there will be 2 more books in the series and I really can't wait to read them 😊

-This book is so doggone SWEET, I can't take it!! (Well, yes I can, because I devoured it!) From pastries aplenty to the charming chemistry between Jax & Liv, this book will leave you with the warm and fuzzies for days, yall.

AND DID I MENTION IT IS SET IN NASHVILLE?!?!

Jax and Liv are a dreamy duo, I instantly wanted every single side character to have their own story, and the backdrop of music and Nashville just ice the cake in this adorable debut romance. Grace writes with the depth and heart of a seasoned writer. I guarantee you'll be swooning for Jax and cheering for Liv to step into her spotlight from the first chapter on.

This romance has power to it, which is exactly what I want in a love story. Liv shines as a potently real woman dealing with a broken self-image in a way that made me want to hug AND shake her just so she'd know how wonderful she is.

Grab some Krispy Kreme and snuggle in for this gem!

This is such a sweet debut for Melissa Grace and I donut just mean the donut jokes. This book was a lovely, fun read that has relatable life issues, a swoon-worthy romance and very likeable characters who could be your best friends. The main characters have great chemistry and I knew from the first few chapters and the way Melissa writes that this book was going to be great.

I can't wait to get my hands on the next in the Midnight in Dallas series.
