This was an okay book. It was definitely full of thrills and chills. There is something deep below the earth and after a major earthquake in Los Angelas it is discovered. What is it, where did it come from, and is it a threat to global catastophe are all questions asked by the one lone seismologist studying it's effect. Military (Majestic) get involved. People die....etc, etc. etc. Spoilers...two things I didn't like. The author introduced many characters, and ever put some effort into making them realistic, only to kill them off in the next chapter. The sheer # of violent deaths in this book, simply became unbelievable to me. Escpecially after the military got involved they definitely had the weaponry needed but not the defense? I kind of felt like I do in movies when the violence is just gratutious and not really necessary or relevant. However I did like the story and there were still a lot of questions left. I know the author has a few more "Majestic" novels out there but from their blurbs I don't think they follow the first group, so we may never know.

This is book 1 of the Majestic Files series which currently has 4 books in it. I read the synopsis of each of the other books and it doesn’t look like any of the characters cross over into the other books which I found confusing given how book 1 ended.

There was one line at the beginning that told me all I needed to know about what was going to happen. I was 95% right. Even with me knowing so early in the book, it was still pretty enjoyable. The one thing that I really didn’t like/agree with is what happened to the Major. I don’t understand why it needed to happen. I don’t think he would have hurt Trent and I really think they could have convinced them their plan would work. Everything else made sense to me but that and it really really bugs me. Like seriously bugs me enough that I’m wondering if I want to read the other books even though I’m giving it a 4 star rating.

Decent sci-fi thriller

Epicenter is a novel about an unidentified threat to Los Angeles following an earthquake which doesn't follow any predictable patterns. The threat turns out to be something very unexpected, and a threat to all human life. The main characters are well constructed, but secondary characters are not on the same level. This is a fun, exciting read for anyone. 4/5 stars. I'll be interested in exploring more of Briggs' works in the future.

Surprised me!

To be honest about a quarter of the way into this book I almost bailed on it, just couldn't seem to get into it but then...something clicked and I really finished up enjoying the story, yeah it's very much a kind of "Boys own" romp (think 80's action movie) but it's quite an enjoyable romp

Great book

This book has made my top 5 of the best novels I've ever read. The author has an astonishing imagination to think of something like this to write. The greatest cast of characters a book would want. To top it all off it has a superb ending. I recommend reading this to all that love science fiction.

Page turner

Fast paced thriller, scifi, mystery all rolled into one. Give me more. Earth quakes, military, science geeks, aliens and special operations are all rolled into a great story.

Interesting but plenty of gaps

this was an interesting read, however, many things are left unexplained and one has to have a high degree of suspension of disbelief to stay with the story all the way through. Also, not a huge fan of open endings.

Fast moving

On the whole, not bad, quite graphic. It needed proof reading, some words and grammar throughout caught me on the hop!

Good read, but...

Very poor grammar skills. Perhaps foreign writer with poor translation? If you can get past the odd phrasing, it’s worth the time.
