There’s a saying… What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger, and Connor is going from strength to strength!
He’s finally got his borders secure by taking Portsmouth. Not only that, but he’s conquered the adjacent land of Certaindeath and defeated Lord Zerg Zerg to take Zergatory. Things are looking up for our favorite warlord, and he’s rightly pleased with himself.
But there’s another saying… Pride comes before the fall.
This is a LitRPG-Civ building fantasy tale that includes progression stats and settlement stats. For lovers of 4X MMORPG civilization building games who enjoy a tale woven in the lands they spend far too much time in! Warning! Contains curse words!
I got the Omnibus on audible for a credit. The length of the omnibus was worth it for book one and two. I'll start this by saying the first two books had moments for me where I had issues with how the narrator wrote the main characters perception of women. I overlooked those because where it made me cringe and scream WRITTEN BY A MAN, it didn’t change my opinions of any characters except the main character. I don’t like Conner. The side characters and the side quests kept me hanging around though.
Conner is a weird weak dude kissing everyone on the mouth for no good reason. He describes a Lizard and a hedgehog as having “alluring bodies.” Yeah you’re weird as heck for that author.
My last straw though. My very last straw is Yosaku’s back story. All this time I’m thinking perhaps she was abused horribly. Maybe she was forced to fight in some underground fight club. Maybe she was kidnapped. Maybe maybe maybe. Maybe the strongest, most reserved, least emotional, female character in this book was unhealthily obsessed with, stalked, and tried to seduce some old dude and killed herself over that old dude not returning her feelings. Wtf is up with ember lane turning half the female characters into sly temptresses?? Also the way it was described by Yosaku makes me cringe and vomit. Describing the s*x positions she saw them in and Xandaphrey’s body. “Rutting her like a stallion” were words actually used by a woman who allegedly saw “the love of her life” screwing someone else. Be so fkn for real. Not finishing this book. I can’t. If Yosaku was right about one things it’s that this is shameful. But mostly for the author.

I am redoing this review since the 5 book series is completed and I have read them all. I classify this as a portal litrpg 4x. The 4x is base/civ building similar to some mobile games or computer games. Each book feels different from the one before it. For instance, book 1 is mostly a normal litrpg, then ends with base building, while book 2 is heavily into base building and military campaigns. Each new book also focuses on a new side character. What's interesting, is that later in the series, two of the characters I cared the least about, became the most interesting, to the point that I wanted to read more about them than Connor.
I give this whole series a 5 out of 5, and it has a wonderful ending.
This book delves deeper into Ellen and her strength. Conner faces offs the chart impossible odds. I grew frustrated with Conner's fights. It was as if Author wanted to make the reader think that Conner lost his edge. However, as author always does, it turned into a wild fantastic ride. 4stars because needs better editing. Story is engrossing and addictive.
as it's not the first in the series you know if you like the trend.. relentless pace, skipping some stuff, characters make some unreal choices, could do with proofreading again.. but all in all it's an excellent ride.
everything has flaws, I give 5 frankly because it made me forget what I wanted to read next.. call me flighty.. :)
Wow. Just wow what else can I say this series has been amazing from the start and there's no sign of it fading like so may other series from different authors tend to do. This series is amazing.
Really only 1 complaint: the MC is supposed to be good at some level of strategy games, yet he makes truly stupid fuckin choices sometimes. Shortsighted and just plain counter to what intelligence and the ability to think ahead would dictate.
Wow! The struggles and depths of strength that are needed to get through the war is quickly building up. This book was full of action and passion enough to power a small city. I really was drawn in with all the characters and am wanting more story. Book 4, I think I need to find you very soon!
Another fantastic book. This is like if one of the civilization games joined a fantasy book with LITRPG stats. Honestly someone need to send this book to the civ developers I would love to play this as a game
I'm all-in on this series, and even as it stumbled here at times I will keep in reading. The parallel pov shifts between chapters continue to be a bit jarring, and the characters do not seem to incorporate the lessons they learn from their experiences. Which is frustrating. A few too many stunned moments. A few too many "no duh they're going to" mind control moments. These are becoming cliche within the series. I think there's a need - and space! - to slow down and let us readers see progress on the development and character side. I also think there's risk of the story's momentum getting away from the author - I'll be disappointed if the protagonists cut the game short by jumping straight to the final boss, which I fear will happen and will be anticlimactic. We've seen parts of a beautiful, weird world, and I want to see and bask in more of it. This could easily be a ten book series, but I fear it will rush to five. Please space it out and keep going...this is such a lovely idea and story!
