The Collection has gone silent, leaving the Nine Kingdoms on edge. Following the demise of Stonegarde, Marble finds herself eager to leave behind the horrors of the past. But guilt is not so easily dismissed.
With Zamia as the new heir to the throne, division grows within the royal family when they force her into an arranged marriage. Yet despite the burdensome expectations and duties placed upon Marble as a Lackey, as well as the growing panic Zamia feels toward her duty to the crown, there is still one burning question that rises above the rest: Is the Ra’ffa dead or only sleeping?
The Knife in the Shadows by Bekah Berge has the same amazing characters, addictive writing style and picks up right where book 1 left off.
I don’t honestly think I could give Bekah anything but 5 stars. She’s an incredible writer.
(Spoilers for book 1) Marble and the gang are dealing with the fallout of Stonegarde, no in the Isles where Zamia will one day rule over. Marble is quickly finding out that she has a lot more duties than she initially thought, and she’s still fighting with herself internally. And she’s found someone she may or may not have feelings for...
The plot was amazing. It was a lot more mundane type things than book 1, but the action when it hit, it didn’t stop, it didn’t let up. One thing I love about Bekahs writing is that she’s not afraid to go there, no one is safe even the most beloved characters.
And the characters are so easy to love. Marble is fascinating. She’s not the hero, but she’s also not the bad guy. I thought it was such an interesting spin of events. I was transfixed the entire time. Effy is best friend goals. Even Pix was a lot easier to love in this book.
The writing style as always flowed so well, I honestly don’t know how to describe it but beautiful. Bekah knows what’s she’s doing, and she makes it so easy and so fun to read.
I have a hard time comparing her books to other books as they’re super unique. If you like fantasy, you’ll love this one!
I loved the first book in this series and was so excited to read the second one. I thought I would be disappointed at the change in setting because I loved the setting in the first book so much. But the setting in this book was fantastic. I’m always amazed reading fantasy novels by the creativity of the author imagining a whole world for their characters as well as creating a page-turning drama. I couldn’t put this book down. It was so good. I can’t wait for the next installment to see what Marble does next!
The Knife in the Shadows is a phenomenal sequel in the Shadow Series! I want more, Bekah Berge! :) I thoroughly enjoyed it. The writing is flawless and Berge has a spectacular way of drawing you into the characters lives and relationships. Marble's journey seems far from over and I can only hope there is a book three in the works so I can find out what happens next! Fantasy, mystery, intrigue, magic and romance. All my favorites wrapped into one! I highly recommend this series.
Marble is back at Zamia's home, learning to be a lackey. Zamia is now the heir but her parents are requiring that she marry or she loses the throne. A young guard catches Marble's eye and she struggles with her feelings all while worrying that the monster inside her is going to come out. Between pretending to be a barmaid, Zamia, and a servent, she barely has time for herself. And then the unthinkable happens.
I really find myself struggling with this series. Marble and Zamia are both quite whiny which I completely understand considering the trauma undergone by both but it makes for quite a difficult read.
The ending was also quite abrupt and there doesn’t seem to be any announcement of whether there is a final book to finish off the series. I wish I’d known this was how it would end tbh as I’m now left with a lose end I don’t think will ever be tied up.
The continuation of Marble's story as a Lackey in a world that is rapidly changing. The character growth and development in the story were fantastic. The blossoming romance, the challenge of what to do when everything one thought would be in their future is changed. This book kept me on my toes the whole time. I am looking forward to the next one when it is completed.
I could not put this book down! After finishing the first in the series, I was so excited to see what happens to Marble. I was not disappointed! Fantasy, magic, friendship, love; this book was definitely my cup of tea.
