Wyld Fae #1

A King so Wyld and Wicked

Rate this book
Two lovers, two lives, two worlds. How can I be an ordinary housewife from Yorkshire, a wife to my sweet, quiet husband and a queen to the sultry and mysterious fairy king at the same time?

The year is 1914. I’ve just married my childhood sweetheart, Jackson James Wellington. With the wedding come and gone, I thought we would settle into a normal life together. But with the passing of Jack’s father and a novelist for a husband whose obsession with fairytales and myths borderlines insanity, married life is different than I expected it to be.

Then a strange illness fills my head with the most peculiar of dreams, and my life becomes anything but ordinary.

Now, I wonder if it is I who is the insane one.

I’m a level headed woman, a proper and well-bred English lady. So why can’t I shake these fantastical and fevered dreams about the king of the fairies? The fae with heartbreaking beauty and words as soft as silk whispers to me in my sleep, making dark oaths in the dead of night, and I am not sure how much longer I can resist him.

And should I succumb to his lure, our forbidden romance will turn my world on its head, blurring the line between fantasy and reality.

A unique breath of fresh air!
I belong in this world, not his.
Happily married Allison has been having some very vivid dreams . . . ones that star a very alluring Fae King, ones that begin to blur the lines between fantasy and reality.
My dreams were nothing more than dreams, and it was silly to suggest otherwise.
So I'm the first to admit that I shy away from love triangles, but Allison, Jackson and Finvarra's story held me captive from beginning to end. And just when I thought I had it all figured out, the author knocked me for a loop!

If you're into . . .
✔ historical fantasy
✔ Fae
✔ love triangles
✔ the allure of the forbidden
✔ a bit of kink
✔ a lot of chemistry
. . . you've found your next read.

I've already started book 2!

I just finished this book and I have to say I'm really blown away. The author tells a really steamy story without taking anything away from the compelling characters and deeper plot. Nothing feels forced or unnatural, and despite the fact that this story mostly takes place in a fantasy realm, everyone and everything is believable.

The love story between the protagonist and the titular Fairy King is really exciting, and makes me want to find out more about him, and see their relationship. There is also a complicated love triangle with Allison's husband that tugs at your heartstrings and deepens her character.

The setting of the Wyld seems so well thought out and developed. There's a richness to it that is slowly explored, and draws you into this world that at times feels bigger than our own. Learning about the fae and their Kingdom is just amazing.

All in all, this is not only one of the best romance books I've ever read, but one of the best books, period. I recommend it to everyone I know, and if you even suspect you'll like it, you definitely have to pick it up.

I don't know if I can say enough about this debut novel by Aiden Pierce.

Bound to the Fairy King is a mix of fantasy, paranormal, time travel, and historical romance all rolled into one fantastic story.

It took no time at all for me to become completely immersed in the Wyld world Aiden has created that so vividly comes to life, as do all of her characters, and I do mean all. Without taking anything away from the main characters, Allison, Jackson, and Finn, even characters that only appear in one or two scenes made an impact, and each one will be remembered for a very long time.

The author’s voice is as hypnotic as the 1914 Yorkshire Countryside that collides with the mystery and romance of the Wyld, the land of the fairies, and I quickly fell in love with all of it.

The Wyld King Chronicles will be the next series to be proudly displayed on my bookshelves as soon as the author gets the entire series to us in print (hint, hint). And Aiden Pierce has been added to my list of favorite authors whose books I plan to grab the moment they hit the stands.

This book was kind-of a mess, and many of the plot points were confusing or not explained well. There are long paragraphs of description to set up the world and what things look like, but then light on setting up actions or having characters realize what or why or how actions are happening.

The love triangle technically involves cheating. Even though Allison does tell her husband what is going on, he believes it is all in her dreams, which he laughs about and says he’s fine with. There was minimal character development, especially with the husband Jackson, so all of Allison’s back and forth about being in a relationship with each male character was difficult to see. The author sets up that they are childhood sweethearts and fell in love over fairies and magical worlds, but then has the husband mostly out of the picture and obsessed with writing a book rather than any part of what Allison has going on. The author hints at the possibility of MFM with the fae king and one of the other fae, so I honestly wish Allison had been able to drag her husband into the fairy world and he was more included in the plot more than just using her stories to write his book.

DNF @30%

This was my first and last book by this author. I really disliked this book. It was boring from the start. I'm not sure if I missed when this book was supposed to be taking place, but the way they talked and the fact that they referred to each other as mr. And mrs. Wellington and he wore an ascot, had me believing its the late 1800s. They completely lacked any sort of personality. The husband was a book end. Literally, he stayed in the library 24/7. Even the fairy king was boring. I was over this at 30%. No thanks. Not for me.

Definitely an interesting take on Fae, humans, the walking world, and the faerie world. It was intricately done, but the execution was a bit off for me. There was a lot of confusion and things that didn't make sense. Like Allison's gifts and her being able to slip between worlds. Or how Finn is powerful but he didn't come to the human world when she called. It's all really complicated, while interesting, it kind of bored me. Also there were a lot of mistakes and repeat sentences that took me completely out of the story. One or two I can overlook, but when it's a lot more than that and it happens throughout the story, it gets frustrating. I will be finishing the series as I'm curious to see what Allison's magic is, how her power will affect the Wyld, and what will come of the child she is carrying.

Good but meh

It has a great outline. A good pretense for a book. And even a good story for the most part. More traditional fairy characters for the most part. Good lore.
I found the main character wishy washy though. The character development was odd and not really strong enough for my tastes. There are grammatical errors that should have been corrected in the final review before publishing, which is very unfortunate because it destructs from the story itself. Normally one or maybe even two grammatical errors are fine but it is pretty much constant in this novel.
I did however enough the authors writing style. The vocabulary used is actually a breath of fresh hair so there is that. 3/5 stars due to grammatical errors but wonderful vocabulary. If the vocabulary was worse it would have gotten 1.

Wicked good read!

If you can deal with some (ok, a lot of) racy scenes you’ll enjoy this book. The characters are well developed, although the husband could use some fleshing out. Perhaps in book two we will get more of his story.

This story had good characters. The description of the fairy realm is very good. Allison goes to the fairy world in her dreams. She meets the fairy king. Her heart is torn between her human husband and the king. There are romantic, steamy and action scenes.
