The love/hate relationship between Diane and Kendra Williams takes mother-daughter drama to entirely different level.
Diane is a single mother who prides herself on being a master manipulator. She has no problem using anything or anyone to get what she wants. Whether it’s treating her sister, Celia, as her personal ATM or seducing unlikely, unsuspecting men, she will do whatever it takes to get ahead.
Her daughter, Kendra, is a hardworking student who does a better job parenting her younger twin sisters than their mom does. She is determined to be nothing like her mother, and instead, strives to follow in her Aunt Celia’s footsteps to get the car, house, and career of her dreams. After meeting Bilal, a handsome, streetwise entrepreneur, she may just land the man of her dreams as well.
When tragedy strikes one of the twins, instead of being there for her family, Diane sees it as one more opportunity to exploit for her own personal gain. And when a secret that both Diane and Kendra have been keeping comes out, the entire family is ripped apart. Will Kendra be able to hold on to everything that means the world to her, or will her mama’s drama snatch it all away?

This book definitely fit the title because that mama was full of drama from beginning to end. I wanted Kendra to stand up for herself more but her mother was too jealous of her and made her life miserable. Diane didn’t care who she was disloyal to make her happy she crossed any and everybody. The author had some timeline and characters mix up in the book but it didn’t take away from the story. How it ended it definitely need a part 2
All I can say is wow! How low can one mom can go !?!? Well according to this book pretty damn low ! She went to such extremes and had no care for anyone else or their feelings. This author wrote this book really well! I’ll definitely will continue to read more books from this author.
Diane is the single mother of three daughters...Kendra and twin sisters Avery and Ashley. She will stop at no length, to half provide for her children. That includes scamming and sleeping with anyone’s man. After a tragic accident leaves one of them in the hospital, Diane really turns it up.
Kendra is working to help finance her education, and help her sisters with some of basic necessities that their mother is neglecting. As her aunt’s favorite, Kendra catches a lot of flack from her mother, which is further intensified when she gets a boyfriend.
This book is a page-turner that not only made me hate the TRIFLING mother, but my name as well! The reader is often reminded that “everything done in the dark, comes to light.” I highly recommend this 💎💎💎💎💎 book by @lacooljill.
OMG I don’t t know where to begin with this book. This book is definitely a page turner. The mother, Diane, is a trip. She has a lot of drama. The plot is well written. I found myself experiencing many emotions in this book. I am looking forward to the next book in the series or the sequel.
I'm really enjoying La Jill Hunt's books!!! This is my 3rd book, and I can not wait to start the next one!!!! My Mama's Drama is very good. It's depics how life can be when your Mama is full of drama and cause trauma and havoc in your life! But it's up to you to make a difference for your life and your future. This book is madness. Women can be extremely toxic. Well, some women, not all. I don't want to spoil it for you other readers....so start reading, so we can talk!
I haven’t really seen a full blown review for this book so I guess I will be the first one. I also see people saying that they can’t wait for the next book so I’ll try and keep that in mind with this review.
I’ll start off with what I actually enjoyed. I loved the complexity of every character in this book. No one was a real over the top caricature of themselves and that is something I don’t see a lot in Urban fiction. The sex scenes were quick and to the point and not drawn out. Diana was infuriating to the end which I suppose was good since she was obviously the antagonist of the book. Even with the reveal of her pregnancy in the end she was starving herself on purpose so that she could get Darnell to attempt to patch things up with her sister Celia even after he had an affair with Di. All this so she could get out of jail and have a place to live. An opportunist until the end. The ending was also good. Diane in a way, got what she deserved. Like a cockroach though, she just kept coming back.
Now what I didn’t like. Although I got used to it, there were way too many POVs in the story for the plot. A lot of characters knew one another and it was really hard to keep up with when you’re switching from Bilal to Di to Kendra to Celia. The only time I could see Celia’s POV being useful was when it was revealed she couldn’t have kids and the only time Bilal’s was useful is towards the end with revealing who Diane was trying to start selling drugs with. It really only needed to be Diane and Kendra’s POV. While I’m aware that there is a possibility for another book I can’t imagine Kendra and Bilal really being a big part of it, nor the Twins. The ending pretty much squared away their stories in my opinion. I also couldn’t really get behind Diane’s attempts at actually showing some positive emotion which disappointed me. We had to solely rely on her inner monologue to be convinced that she’s actually a very broken person. Why not show it? Why not have her slightly redeem herself to at least Kendra? Or even Celia? I get that she’s supposed to be the bad guy but even when her tragic back story was revealed I just ended up rolling my eyes.
Overall, this book was good. Some points in it I didn’t like but that’s really personal preference. It’s really a 3.5/5 Good read, will definitely be following this author for more of her stuff.

This is the first time I am reading a La Jill Hunt's book...it was absolutely phenomenal. The characters were created with such eloquent and detailed histories. I'm utterly speechless at Diane's behaviors, as a Mom, a woman and a human being.
The ending was truly shocking. I'm was so sympathetic and moved by Celia, Kendra and Bilal compassionate actions.
I highly recommend this book and I'm so excitingly anticipating reading every book written by this author....thank you....😘
3.5 Diane mother of two and lover of eggplant was one of those women you never wanted to come in contact with at any time. Her lack of self-worth manifested itself in horrendous acts of betrayal and sociopathic behaviors that affected her children, her sister, and the many men who had the misfortune to cross her path.
This story moved fairly well and was entertaining. I did have a difficult time connecting with the characters, not because the experiences were not relatable or shared. But, I had the feeling I was missing some key information when it came to them. Not to mention just when I thought the lovely Diane would get her comeuppance, the story ended on a cliffhanger. A cliffhanger to which I cannot find a sequel as of yet. As far as the audio production, the narrator did a good job bringing the naivete of the bit players in Diane's world to laugh just as well as she brought Diane's delusional mean spirit to life. At any rate, if you want an adult version of "mean girl", this book is for you without the Regina George growth.
Kendra is struggling to finish college, keep her job, take care of her younger twin sisters, and have personal a life. These desires are complicated by the never ending extreme drama of her attention seeking, money grubbing mother. When one of her sisters ends up in a coma in the hospital, Kendra is completely over whelmed. Her mother dropping poisonous venom on everything, including her sister’s health care, doesn’t help. Kendra’s mama’s manipulative behavior, including always looking for a way to make easy money, is personified by the narrator’s remarkable vocal performance. The team of four narrators, seamlessly flowing from one perspective and voice to another, superbly highlights the novel’s full cast of characters. Listeners of urban, realistic fiction and those who enjoy high drama will be sure to enjoy Hunt’s latest hit. Great novel for fans of Carl Weber and Deja King.
What can you I say about Diane who should not be allowed to have children? She was selfish, jealous, ignorant and stupid. There are other words to select for a woman like her because she definitely was no mother to her children. I thought the writing was good, but Diane was a sorry excuse to even read about and the title for this book is just what it says. I'm hoping there will be a second book to this because the ending was just so not right. I'm hoping that if there is another book Celia turns down Darnell and Diane's request because I see what is about to happen in book 2. Diane will be up to her scheming again I'm looking for celia to be happen with Detective Sean. And I'm hoping that Kendra and Bilai do end up with a happy ending. I'm hoping Diane end up eventually away for good and get the karma she is due.
When I started this book I could not put it down .Diane is a crazy female .the way she does her kids and most of all the backstabbing she did to her sister . When you all for self she didn’t care for no one that came in her path. This book here had me wanting beat Diane Dow and I still do . The pain she put her family though. Read this book and find out what she put her family though and find out what happed to her and the family. Yow not be disappointed at all
This book was so juicy. that momma was the selfish character I've read about in a long time. She made her daughters lives hell and she completely screwed her sister. There has to be a book 2. So much was left unresolved. Did Celcia get back with her husband and accept her sisters baby? What happened between Kendra and Blial? Did Celcia get custody of the kids? So much drama left on the table, there's got to be another book.
Loved it! La Jill has always been my favorite author. I haven't read one of her books in years and I thought she may have put her pen away...I am so glad she start putting out novels again and it seems like she didn't miss a beat! I can't wait until the next book, seems like we have a nice cliff hanger....
I've been a fan of LJH for a long time. She has a way with the ordinary. She uses ordinary people and creates so much drama it keeps you turning pages. This was mediocre. It was like it would get really good and fall flat. She would build chemistry with the characters and then it wouldn't go anywhere. There should be a sequel. The ending was abrupt.
Omg a page turner. A hot mess but so juicy. I hope there is a second one to finish off what happened to Diane? The baby? Darnell? Kendra deserves the love she is getting from Bilal. The twins should know who there father is. Celia should date Sean. So many things I want to say. Just a must read book.

This was a good read that keeps you guessing until the very end. If readers are looking for a good urban fiction experience with well rounded characters & real life imagery, then I reccommend this book. Kudos to LaJill Hunt.
I've always liked La Jill Hunt. But, hadn't read a book by her in a very long time. I'm glad I picked this one up. Diane, Kendra, Celia, and Bilal made interesting characters. I'm interested in seeing what happens in the next one. The ending implied there will be one.
OMG, Diane was a scummy piece of work. She was trifling, but in a believable and aggravating way. I wanted to smack her for most of her antics, and Kendra, Bilial and Sealy were great supporting casts.
This book was so good. I couldn't put it down. The relationship dynamic of this family is so dysfunctional but it's hard to not see how everything plays out. The title let's you know there will be plenty of drama. Loved this book.
Wow 😮 Is all I can say!!! Diane was just a hot mess. I understand Kendra was the Daughter but damn she needs a backbone. Stop letting folks run over her. And the Sister and Brother In Law.....well throw the whole nasty Brother in Law in the trash 🗑.
I absolutely enjoyed the drama shared in this book. By the end it became predictable. I personally could have read the book without each chapter being told by a different characters point of view. Looking forward to see what else the author has to offer.
As a mother to 2 daughters, I couldn't or wouldn't do the things this mother did. Do this I was appalled by the way she treated then I couldn't stop reading to find out if she would change. I need to know why she is the way she is. What is her story?
Ok read but I have to say I did not like Kendra. She really irked me. She was weak for one and altogether mother to treat her like a dog. Even her mom's friend. She was always giving Bilal a hard time. Diane was a hit mess nd did not get what she deserved.
This book was a great page turner and held my attention. I hope there will a second book to follow up where things left off. Diane is out of pocket in so many ways and I would love to know where her TF antics will take her so she can get a grip and stop.
This was a good book in my opinion. The characters draw you in and you keep turning the page because it gets more and more unbelievable what the antagonist is doing. I finished it in less than 2 days. I will defiantly read more of La Jill Hunts work!
I've always been a fan of this author. From her originally book Shoulda, Coulda, Woulda. Her plots and twists are always a page turner. The only thing I dislike about this authors novels is the editing issues. She often has a lot of errors in her books, mixing up characters or mixing up scenes.
I know damn well that was not the end!!!!!! I need a part 2 because that left me on a cliff hanger. This book definitely had my blood pressure up but I could not put it down. It was definitely a page turner like no other.
I did not like Diane AT ALL, she was the worst. Thank god Kendra, Avery and Ashley had Aunt Celia, because Diane was a hot mess. I liked Bilal too, he seemed sweet. It was a good quick read. Definitely lived up to it’s title.
