‘Don’t lift me up if you find me in the dirt I’m at home here and I swear I can heal Just let the weeds grow over my body, and the earth reclaim my bones Know there is nowhere left for me to fall’
Blake, I love you and your work and you inspire me to keep writing every day. This book moved me in ways I can’t even comprehend nor articulate.
This is Blake Auden’s second poetry collection I have read, I loved it. Auden has written calming poems about the storms in oneself and the world. In just a couple lines he describes such heavy emotion. Beautifully and simply written.
Never have I ever thought to compare the noisiness of love and heartbreak to a colony of bees but Auden does so effortlessly.
His poetry is raw, emotive, and timely, neither sloppy or slimy. It’s free verse instead of rhymed meter.
The Beekeeper will resonate with anyone who has felt the sting of love’s heartbreak, and the memories and processing of letting someone go long after they left.
The larger-scale narrative to the collection just never came together for me. I enjoyed the mix-media of art and poetry that you can find in Beekeeper but overall not high on my recommendation list.
