Enchanted Creatures Don't Exist...

Rate this book
Irrelevant and impertinent are two adjectives that can be used to describe Chris and Kirsten Clifford. Raised in a futuristic society where magic is known to be a thing of the ancient past, the soon-to-be eighteen year old twin siblings were deprived of the 'normal' and vivacious childhood they had always imagined, ending up being outcasts in their family, neighborhood and community. The lifestyles their parents conducted were complicated and mature, and on one dreary afternoon filled with all sorts of suspicious extracurricular activities; Chris and Kirsten find out exactly why. Enchanted creatures don't exist...or so they were told to believe. The seven sins have always been ideology and symbolism, and these were simple facts that the twins were educated to perceive. This, though, is the farthest from the truth. They are yanked into a world filled with treacherous secrets, absurd devils, ghoulish creatures, and beautiful strangers. Thrown into a society that hadn't even imagined to exist, as the life they had always known seems to trickle out of existence, the two teenagers will come to realize that the cost of pursuing adventure will come with serious consequences.

This book was sooooooo good. I love the idea of writing a plot about the seven sins and after I finished I really missed the characters! highly recommend and a great way to support a small author.

Smriti Datta, a sophomore aged 15, has just come up with an exciting novel “Enchanted Creatures Don’t Exist…”. Straight off the bat, the characters of Kirsten & Chris drew me into their world of growing up blissfully unaware of their parent’s real identities. As the story grew, I was pulled into a world filled with magic, enchantments, and even ghoulish creatures that pervade the mystical society that the Cliffords are tasked to protect. The metaphor connecting the worldly sins, to the adventure of the twins across the globe was a captivating effort. I totally loved the different characters that Smriti introduced, which represents different sections of our society, speaking different languages, living the ideology that the whole world is one big family. Kudos to Smriti for fleshing out the characters so well. It is truly amazing to note that she possesses such a wise mind on top of those young and capable shoulders. While the novel ended on a cliffhanger (spoiler alert to the sequel in the works), I’m truly excited to explore the world that Smriti will further reveal, and the additional characters & situations she will introduce, as the twins go about conquering & defeating the sins. Great job, and best wishes in your literary journey.
