My parents’ divorce? A mild surprise. My mother moving us six-hundred miles from our home in New York, to North Carolina? A temporary inconvenience. My entire life plan crumbling right in front of me? Eye opening. Also, complete bullshit.
This was supposed to be simple. One summer in North Carolina before heading off to college on the West Coast. That was the plan I'd spent the past year cementing, until my world went up in flames on my last night at home.
UCLA might be off the table for the fall, but am I really going to stay here? Stuck in this small town that was only meant to occupy my summer break? My brain says No. But Mr. Tall, Tan and Mysterious, with his ridiculously gorgeous hazel eyes and muscles that could make a girl fall apart. He might be just the thing to change my mind.
Fin Bennett is hot as hell and he's got my attention. Unfortunately, his guard is up and he has a habit of keeping secrets. A lot of them. That should be enough of a reason to walk away. But it isn’t, because I barely know him and I'm already hooked.
Lorelei Wright is an American author of Young Adult fiction, short stories, and adult romance. She can often be found writing and editing late into the night when her family is fast asleep and the house is quiet. When she is not busy taking orders from the bossy characters that take up residence in her mind she spends time baking, crafting, and otherwise adventuring with her two toddlers and exceptionally handsome husband.
Eighteen-year-old Kat is not exactly having a great senior year. First her jerk of a dad announces that he’s ditching her and her mom in order to start over with the woman he’s been having an affair with and their new daughter, oh, and he has no intention of paying alimony or supporting Kat in college (because awesome guy.) Then, at her going away party before she and her mom leave town, Kat is treated to a whole ‘nuther level of betrayal. I really loved the relationship Kat had with her mother. Theirs was definitely my favorite relationship in the book, and I loved how Kat clearly learned her strength from her. Kat and her mom move down to North Carolina for the summer before Kat moves to California for college and Kat needs a restart. She’s getting to know her grandparents again, in a new house, making new friends, and maybe finding new love, too. This was a fun New Adult contemporary romance with a gorgeous setting that explored lots of the firsts of new adulthood. When Kat meets Finn, there’s instant chemistry, but he’s definitely keeping secrets, and after the betrayal of her dad and ex, can she really fall for someone who’s keeping things back from her? Loved this one!

This is a short & safe read with likable characters but not much of a romance and let's be honest, a bit of a snoozefest. BUT, here why I continued reading nonetheless....
SPOILERS AHEAD....
This is a story about an 18 or 19 yr old heroine (Amelia/Kat) whose parents divorced & she & her Mom move to NC to be close to her grandparents. Before they leave, Kat has a party at her home and she finds her longtime boyfriend cheating on her with her best friend!
What I liked about that scene is that unlike some authors who write pathetic weak heroines, this one did not take it lining down. Instead of crying & moping, she takes a picture of them getting it on in her bed of all places and downloads it to all their friend's apps to show what a loser they both were. Then she states:
"I roll my eyes and groan. At what point did Oliver realize sleeping with my best friend was a mistake? Was it when he got caught? Or maybe when I sent out that embarrassing group text which I have since muted because my peers reduced themselves to guessing where Lexi picked up her black lace bra. Last I checked the guesses were the Salvation Army and Old Navy, but the real kicker was the person who said “aren’t they the same place?” I got my petty, anger-fueled revenge. I don’t need to read commentary on where my ex-best friend bought her underwear or why Oliver was wearing a ballcap while they were doing the deed. But more than that, I don’t need him texting me to admit that he made a mistake or acknowledge my anger. What I need is for him to lose interest and stop texting me completely. To head off to California and live out our dream with someone else so I can forget about him and move on with my own life. That’s what I want. I know it is, because if that’s not what I want then I’m the kind of girl who forgives a cheater, and lets him waltz back into her life after breaking her heart and trust when both of those things were already damaged. I can’t be that kind of girl".
At that point I saluted her! Way to go girl! How often do we ever get a heroine who says FU to the cheater and doesn't give him a 2nd chance and the whatnot? Granted, the cheater was not the Hero in this story but still...…
Then when she arrives in NC, she meets Finn who has a major secret and is very mysterious throughout the story and it takes up until the near end to learn what that is.. Here it is:
Let down you ask? Yep. I expected something big and then when it was out, it was like "alrighty then...". He also came out weak & needy btw, but on the plus side, the heroine was awesome - strong, loyal, funny & kickass, so there was that...
"I groan and roll my eyes. I really don’t like arguing with my mother. Arguing in general isn’t my thing. I roll with the punches and move on from people who cause problems. Unfortunately, this is different. Neither of those options are viable when it comes to family.
Safety: No OW /OM drama (though the ex BF of hers does text her throughout the story but she is over him & doesn't return any calls or texts & doesn't think of him at all). Neither are virgins & Hero is not a Manwhore.
I found this book very entertaining and well written with well developed and engaging characters. The storylines all had a great flow that I greatly enjoyed.

This was my first read from this author. I loved the first person point of view of the story, which is always a deal breaker for me. I loved Amelia, she was a kick ass girl. This story was amazing, it had a lot going on and I loved it. I will definitely read more from this author in the future.

A good story that I thought was enjoyable to read. The characters were well defined and the storyline was well written. I liked the characters who were likable and their love story was sweet to behold.
I requested a copy of this book so I could provide an honest review.
For The Summer was a good story, the plot and characters were strong. Fin and Amelia's journey may have been on the bumpy side but they were made for each other, they were drawn to one another, their chemistry was strong, they were good together. I enjoyed this story.
First read by this author. I enjoyed the pacing of the story and found the dialog to be authentic and easy to read. I will be checking out this authors other books soon.
I couldn't put it down! This romance had relatable characters I was rooting for and and an air of mystery that led to an unexpected twist. All this kept me turning the pages until the final word!
Loved the book. this was an engaging read. The only thing I didn;t like was one scene, this girl ditched her mom for a guy. The mom, I really want to have a story, she was awesome. I want the mom to find the perfect guy for her.
Fin and Amelia aka Kat are super cute together and I loved their playfulness it was so realistic. I loved the dialogue it was like these characters could be my friends. I am a big dialogue fiend!! I absolutely HAVE to have great and very realistic dialogue in my stories and this book has that in spades do THANK YOU Ms. Wright. The book does get a bit repetitive especially with Kats inner monologue and that dragged down the story for a bit, otherwise I found this to be an easy fun and very enjoyable read.

I loved this book so much. It pulled me right into the story. Great characters. It was a fast-paced, entertaining & suspenseful read. I couldn't get enough. This was a new author for me. And can't wait to read more of her work. I received an early copy. And voluntarily leaving this review.
This story is about a young woman and her mother packing up to move near the grandparents after a divorce and graduation. The young woman has a bad dating experience and arrives in the new town as a single woman. She meets a mysterious and sexy man that is keeping secrets. Can she trust him with her heart?
I really enjoyed this story. The female lead is very strong, honest and likable. The male lead is mysterious but nice and they have a cute connection. The “secret” that comes out is really no big deal and doesn’t cause any real drama, thank goodness. I’m glad it wasn’t the typical story with the dramatic moment that splits them up. This is just a very sweet story of a fast young love that does get a HEA. A couple of nice epilogues into their future tie it up nicely.
Very good story, definitely recommend.

I received this ARC for a review. I really liked it, it had all of the elements. Family, love, youth, humor, and friends. Amelia (aka Kat) just left her hometown to North Carolina life, her dad left her and her mom, they had to live in his wake for two years until she graduated high school. Jim and his new family living in the same town. Hoping to escape it all, she put all her eggs in one basket, when that basket turned out to be a cheating bastard, she said, "Just For the Summer...", she had the summer to figure out what and where she wanted to go from there. Then she meets Fin, a handsome guy who keeps to himself but has the look of desire for her. Re meeting her mothers parents and living the life of less expectations and cliques is good for her and she finds her way. This is a HEA, and I think it was worth the read. It makes you happy that good things do happen after a trying storm.
This book is a beautiful story, a coming of age sort of story of a young girl who is trying to find her footing in her world as it all starts to change and break around her.
Amelia/Kat has lost her family unit (her dad abandon them), her home (they move to a small town), friends and love. As she is ready to enter college/Young adulthood she is starting with making different choices. Until she meets Finn, and she puts her "Just For The Summer" time status to a trial. But as her journey of self discovery continues, she starts to make decisions that will change the summer and shape her future
A beautiful plot, characters, and a narrative that captures the teenage angst and transforms it through the course of the pages.

Though this is a short read, I would say it can be read in an hour. I love that it is a fresh start for mother and daughter. Ginger is just freaking precious love when a different dog changes the inner narrative of the breed in a person's mind. Fin and Kat seem like they just mesh well. If you want a sweet fast read book this is the choice. Definitely going to look out for more from L.L Wright.
