I like writing about inspirational characters. These people come to me in dreams facing tragedy, problems, and challenges. The protagonist face the difficulty and defeat it. They work, fight, and endure the trial before them and not just overcome the predicament, but flourish afterwards. I wake from the dream admiring the character after living their circumstance in the dream.

I started writing about twenty years ago partially to improve my writing skills, but mostly to bring the characters to life on paper. As I learned to express and illustrate the characters with their personality, my stories went from 500 words with just the facts to 1000 words bringing color of emotion with the depth of the character. It is my goal to inspire others by the stories expressed in my writing. I want to show whether the hero was facing a light hearted mistake or life threatening experience, the individuals of my stories succeed in life.

Whether stories are meant to bring laughter, sorrow, or surprise, they should inspire the reader to believe there is an end to their current adverse situation and they will survive to make a better life. This state of success is fleeting because life happens and there are always new dilemmas facing them. You know what, the previous tribulations only strengthen you for the next set of difficulties. Hopefully me stories can help people get through life with joy, love, and peace in their heart.

“The Fighting Son,” By Danny Mac, is the third book in the Flying series. It does stand alone quite well, but it would be more enjoyable if you read all three. It is an extraordinary adventure involving the Sword of Justice, aliens, and help from God.
The story begins with a little information about Rod’s childhood, the death of his father due to drug addiction, and how helpful he was to his mother. As we move on to his adulthood, we learn about some of Rod’s experiences in the military and Special Forces. He excelled in his training missions and later, in real missions. He received respect and honor from his teammates and leaders. He was well liked and his opinions mattered. Once he decided to get out of the military his life took a change.
As a civilian Rod was still an ethical young man. He got a job, a wife, and a “new” dad. His “dad” was the “Unnamed Man” from The Flyer Series, book one. The two men begin exploring and improving Rod’s flying skills, as well as several other special skills he had received from God. Together, the two men helped in several very dangerous situations, along with Dannie, the Unnamed Man’s “daughter.” As the book continues, we hear of a few missions involving another dimension and evil, violent creatures.
The Fighting Son is a clean story with principled characters. This book is a fantasy with a lot of non-fantasy content as well. The different dimensions also add interest to the story. This is not a quick read (for me), but it is worth the effort.

I wasn't sure what this book was about but it was a pleasant surprise.
The author built the characters well. I don't usually read books with this much religion but it's a good story of good vs. Evil.

The Fighting Son is the third in my flying people series. Rod is the most admirable of the characters. His house is clean all the time and clothes, though casual, are clean and pressed at all times. His hair is neatly groomed to a short distinct cut.

He has the most determined personality. That is he is very exacting in all he does with an eye for details. For a broad picture person like myself, he can be annoying because he notices even fine details of any situation. However, his skills to pinpoint minor discrepancies makes him vital to any organization.

Rod sees himself as not being very smart, partly due to being married to highly intelligent wife. The other part because he never put much time into studies and academia. What he doesn’t have in the way of smarts, he makes up for in diligence and determination. He is humble enough to admit he doesn’t know, but aggressively searches for what he doesn’t know.

Of all the flying people from my stories, Rod embraced his special ability faster than the others. Where The Nonentity and The Genuine Daughter were cautious about their ability, Rod accepted it and grew with it soon after discovering it. Where his adopted Dad was careful with his skills, Rod immediately started using them to help other people around him. He could see the supernatural powers were from God and God wanted him to help others with it. He actively sought people to help using his God-given powers.

Rod’s supernatural powers are unique to him and the unearthly challenges he faces are equally distinctive. In many ways, his opponents from other dimensions are more evil and deceptive than Dad or Dannie’s monsters. Yet despite the fear in his mind, his heart remains true to God and he fights them with confidence and valor. He instinctively knows how to fight the creatures by trusting God for solutions.

I hope you enjoy the story of Rod in The fighting Son.

The conclusion to the Non-Entity series sees Rod, a retired special forces soldier with God-given super powers, share his story. Rod must overcome his battle with supernatural evil, and his PTSD. Will he be the man God has called him to be? I highly recommend you read and find out!

Pros: As always in this series, the characters are compelling. I love how the author makes even the side characters people that we care about. As in the rest of this series, the emphasis is on the Christian faith, and I love that. The stories in this series aren’t lame, I appreciate the careful crafting and interweaving done.

Cons: Swearing, really unnecessary in a Christian book. I feel like “he swore” would have been sufficient.

I enjoyed this book, and would highly recommend it. Rod, who started out as a sidekick character in the Non-Entity finally gets his chance to tell his story. This book rounds out the series quite nicely and answers some of the questions that the readers have been hoping for!

It is a story of a man and his special powers. It is more like a narrative than a story. Easy to follow and enjoyable to read.

Rod retires from Special Forces and starts working in security. He continues growing his special powers with the help of Dad. He also continues to let God lead him in the direction he is meant to go. This leads Rod into battles in other dimensions, using his powers to help stop terrorism, and using his experience with God to help other Vets with their demons. This is a great continuation to the Flying People series and showing how God can use anyone to further his lessons.

Do You Wish You Could Fly

This is a review of Fighting Son by Danny Mac, the third in his Flying People series. I frequently read fantasy and science fiction, and I sometimes read Christian fiction in those genres. This is Christian-themed science fiction. Although this book is part of a series, I didn’t feel as if I needed to read the other two.

I like a hero who wants to protect the innocent and right wrongs, which Rod is.

My problem is the writing. It often seems more like a report in third person than a story, but it is recording events that occurred as related by the subject. Since this is taking place in our world (except that a rare few can fly or turn invisible), the author doesn’t need to fill in details to make the world come to life for the reader. It occasionally switches between present and past tense in the narration of a single event, which isn’t good writing, but it didn’t make it confusing as to whether some actions were in a different time period. The author uses the word “advance” where it should be “advanced”, and this isn’t the only place a verb is used when the adjectival form should be the past participle (the -ed or -d ending). It happened so frequently that it began to annoy me. To me, it seemed like the author was rushed to get this book published. Perhaps I might have given the book 3 stars if aspects of the writing hadn’t bothered me so much.

I received this book for free through a Goodreads giveaway.
