DV Berkom is the USA Today bestselling author of action-packed, riveting adventure and crime thrillers. Known for creating resilient, kick-ass female characters and page-turning plots, her love of the genre stems from a lifelong addiction to reading spy novels, action/adventure stories, and thrillers.
A restless soul and adventurer at heart, she spent years moving around the US and traveling to exotic locales before she wrote her first novel and was hooked. More than a dozen books later, she now makes her home in the Pacific Northwest with her husband, Mark, and several imaginary characters who like to tell her what to do. Her most recent books include the Claire Whitcomb Western Series: Retribution, Gunslinger, and Legend, and the latest in the Leine Basso thriller series: Final Encounter, Terminal Threat, Fatal Objective, A Plague of Traitors, and Shadow of the Jaguar. This is a great way to lose your self in eight excellent stories of pulse pounding action, betrayal and revenge. Each book is just as good as the last and I enjoyed them so much I had to get the individual audio books to enjoy again. The box set starts with Killer truth which is a novella and is the shortest story but it is a great introduction to the characters and the type of story you are in for. Serial date is about a tv dating show than turns deadly when the contestants start to get killed off but never fear ex assassin Leine Basso is hired to keep everybody safe and find the killer. Bad Traffick If you like kiss ass women with a high moral code and feelings but doesn't take s***t from anyone then this is the book for you. As well as a lot of gun fighting and fights it also has a mystery running through the story, the hero has to keep her high maintenance super star client alive but also work out why a thirteen year old girl keeps turning up with bad guys chasing her The Body Market This time Leine finds herself swapping her paid job of looking after the rich celebrities of Los Angles in order to help find missing or run away children., hoping that they haven't been sold into sex trafficking or into slavery. This leads to tangling with Mexican cartel's. Resulting in lots of guns and dead bodies. Cargo Wow, loved this story. It made such a change for most of the story to be set in Africa instead of a big city setting. Where Leine has to not only fight bad guy but also contend with the native animals too. This story sees Leine helping out an old friend from her past when her daughter disappears while backpacking in Thailand but things soon go wrong for both Leine and the missing girl. So Leine soon finds herself having to do something contrary to up training as an ex assassin and rely on the help of a stranger. Resulting a very good story that I really enjoyed The Last Deception This is another action packed book. Leine Basso has just safely completed a mission for SHEN (Stop Human Enslavement Now) and is on her way home but before she can leave she gets a worrying text message from a friend and rushes off to her aid. When the refugee camp in bombed she soon finds herself drawn back into her old life and taking on a Russian General with very high ties to the Russian government. Can she stop a terrorist attack in America? All this leads to lots of action Dark Return, Oh wow!!!!! After safely returning a young girl to her family Leine is tasked with going undercover in a refugee camp as a reporter to find out why orphaned children are going missing. Before she gets there she befriends a young street kid called Jinn after saving her life when she stops two thugs from killing her. Agreeing to help her Leine takes her with her to the camp to find her missing mother. Not everything and everyone is what they seem at the camp and when leaving the camp Leine is attacked and hurt. She gets help by an unexpected source but by doing so she puts everybody in danger. This is more than just missing children someone wants them for a reason and when things with a previously rescued child turns deadly Leine might just have to go it alone in order to keep everyone safe. The problem is someone knows about Jinn. Absolution Two trained female assassin working for different sides, decided they can't live with the other alive in the world and so go head to head in one explosive book. Not wanting her friends used as bait and not sure who to trust Leine Basso (the heroine) goes it alone, at full throttle. This leads to an explosive book.
I bought all the Leine Basso novels individually before this box set was available - I've been reading them since 2015 when I first bought my Kobo. I'm so pleased I stumbled across this author, each novel is absorbing - I've lost count of the number of nights I've stayed awake into the small hours because I can't bear to wait til the next day to find out what happens. I love them in part because DV Berkom writes a strong, believable female lead. Every book in the series is an excellent read, extremely well written and because all the situations are so convincing I assume well researched. (unless of course they are written from personal experience!) Here's my review for Absolution, my favourite (so far): *** Another storming thriller from DV Berkom. Leine Basso is a kick-arse, take no flack, ex-assassin whose experiences have taught her that in extreme instances the ends can justify the means. And in these instances I agree. This time Leine is chasing (or is she following?) Salome, from orchestrated disaster to disaster. It made for a breathless read, and gave me a few restless nights to be honest – which is just what I want from a thriller. I love and respect Leine. I want to be like her when I grow up. I love Santiago too, so this read was particularly emotional. Plus one of my favourite museums gets a piece of the action (that was distressing!) It’s not often that a thriller series can kid me into thinking that the characters are real, but I am so invested in these, it’s ridiculous! *** If this is your first introduction to Leine and DV Berkom, then I envy you the joy to come.
Riveting and intense! This series is full of adrenaline pumping and heart pounding action! Each book takes you on a completely different roller coaster ride - so buckle up! The plots, twisted turns, witty and edgy writing leaves you wanting more from the author! DV Berkom never disappoints with her fast paced thrillers. Love this author and her authentic characters!
Take one part Emma Peel, one part the Punisher, and a dash of Batwoman and you have a recipe for Leine Basso. These books have action, suspense, terror, love, and. more to keep you guessing. But if squimish be fore warned there 9s also a lot of bloodshed.
It's tough finding books that feature a woman who is strong, can kick ass but has a heart. This is series has all 3 and is fast paced. I highly recommend this series!
This is a great series, Leine is brilliant as a kickass heroin. Although with a questionable moral compass, she basically has a heart of gold. The murky world she operates in, is full of scumbags and betrayers which Leine knows but still get caught out by the betrayels and has to dig even deeper to come out on top, but I do love a winner and Leine is certainly a winner. It is enjoyable to watch her growth from leaving and dealing with her first and major betrayer Eric, to reconciliation with her daughter and developing her own life and love outside of assassination and human trafficking. It is also good to see her dishing out comeupance to those that deserve it. The betrayals are well written and although not obvious to Leine they are to the reader and it creats a great suspense full read, the only exection to this is in Absolution where Spencer is so obviously leading her astray and going to betray her and then isn't, and I'm still not sure how he did it, great red herring. Glad to see at least three more Leine Basso books on the shelf and I look forward to following Leine in battle again in the future.

First, I gotta say, since there books are written by a woman, D.V. Berkom, I don't ever want to hear that guys too often think with their little heads when it comes to women. Because, after reading these eight books and the heroine, Leine Basso, spending large amounts of time and energy thinking exclusively with her lady parts, women have no moral highground! Give guys a break!
Back to the books. Apart from the aforementioned reality, these books all contained excellent writing and copious amounts of action, subterfuge, excitement, drama, thrills and spills, twists and turns, humor and tragedy and more than a few surprises and disappointments, this was a long but one hell of a literary ride! They do not fail to deliver on the thrills and chills one hopes for reading this genre. A hearty five stars!
As with many hero/heroines, the number of times the body is injured is huge! There seems to be some recovery time but no mention of the scars and probable long-term issues. However, Leine is a determined, driven character who leads the reader on a complex journey across continents while she tackles her current mission. She works with characters who may or may not be trustworthy so there is a constant tension and sometimes the reader knows. Assassinations, terrorist bombings, human trafficking, conspiracies that could lead to war - all in a days' work.
Heads up! assassins and lots of murders, some graphic and gory. Moving on: Breathtaking plots and action. I read them all, but got kind of bored around book 5. However, it all picked up, and the ending was satisfactory. I'm not sure Leine is altogether human, though.
