Good Love #2

Good With His Hands

Rate this book
A sexy best friend's brother romance from bestselling authors Lauren Blakely and Lili Valente!

I'm the wrong guy for her. She's sunshine, and cherry pie. I'm whiskey and fast cars. I'm also keeping one hell of a secret from the woman I've wanted for years. But when I find a list my sister left behind for Ruby, I've got no choice but to offer the sexy, big-hearted girl next door both a road trip and a chance. A chance to discover how big she can dream. And if some of those dreams play out in the bedroom? Well, there’s nothing wrong with a few -- okay, several -- hot nights together as we hit the beach, visit old stomping grounds, and test all sorts of limits, in and out of the sheets. Seven days, then I'm off, moving across the country, far away from her. No way can things get complicated in a week. Ruby and I aren’t the kind of dream that has a shot of coming true. Especially once she learns what I’ve done.

GOOD WITH HIS HANDS is a sexy standalone romance in the Good in Bed series!

“It’s so easy to feel the hard thing, but so hard to say it.”

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: ❤️💜💙💚💖
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙
World building: 🌎🌏🌍🌎
Character development: 😞😙🥸😎😍

The Setting: Brooklyn, New York

The heroine: Ruby Valentine - just finished two years of physical therapy after an accident that nearly destroyed her ability to walk and killed her best friend Claire. The Hero is Claire’s brother and they have helped each other through the pain but always remained in the friend zone. She works for her families Pie Company called Sweetie Pie.

The Hero: Jesse Hendrix - he is an artist and owns an extremely successful car restoration shop in New York. He has restored cars featured in Hollywood movies and is soon expanding his Garage by opening one in Los Angeles.

The love story: The two main characters are attracted to each other but have always remained friends not only due to Ruby being Jesse’s sisters best friend, but since the sister died, he feels he can’t even ask her if it would be OK to fall for her best friend. Now their lives are moving in different directions, since she lives and works in Brooklyn and he is moving to the West Coast.

Jesse knows that Ruby has been sad and feels she is in a rut. He finds a bucket list that his sister Claire left for Ruby while cleaning out her things and decides to help Ruby go through the list so she can start living her best life. In the process, they give in to the growing attraction for each other, though with the knowledge that feelings won’t be involved since Jesse is leaving in two weeks.

There are no other women or other men in this book, though there is a display or jealousy or two. The Hero is a genuinely nice guy and though he has had one night stands in the past, is not a huge player. Jesse is sexy and manly and all the things that make a good romantic Hero. He also can think of nothing else but Ruby.

These two have been friends for years and have been attracted to each other for just as long so there is no insta-love in this story. However, they do think they can start up a friends with benefits type situation for a few weeks without their feelings getting in the way. I guess we all know how quickly that went out the window. I just really liked this couple though and the book was quite steamy so if you like that you will enjoy this one. Sometimes with all the bad boys out there, a good guy is just the thing to hit the spot!

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

DNF

It is so sad that in the last hour of 2020, I still have to shelved another book into my DNF. When I sae Miss Valente name on Good With His Hands, I thought the story will be rom com. And what I found is a boring story.

Jesse and Ruby has been on the friend zone. After Jesse's sister die, both of them decided to checked out the bucket list from the said dead sister. I am not a stranger to romantic story with road trip theme.

But I was bored to death listening to the audiobook. The chemistry, the characters, the plot, even the bucket list all are boring! There is no pulse on the spark. Nothing.

So sadly I have to shelved this book into my DNF.

"You can make all the plans you like; you never know how life’s going to play out until you’re looking in your rearview mirror."
First book by Lauren Blakely and Lili Valente. Why did I get it? I'm a sucker for book covers, but this time it was the title that caught my eye.

I have to confess it took me a bit of time to warm up to Jesse and Ruby, I'm not really sure why and I know it's probably me-related. However, once I got into both of them, I couldn't have stopped reading if I wanted to.

Jesse and Ruby have always been friends, but they got closer once Jesse's sister (and Ruby's best friend) Claire died. Ruby has always had this massive crush on Jesse, but she never thought it would amount to anything. However, maybe Jesse wasn't immune to her either.

And while you're thinking this has all the makings of a best-friend's-sister story, it's actually a lot more than that. Claire has left behind a list of things she thought would make a difference in her best friend's life, and would make her live again. And when Ruby starts going through the list with Jesse, the just-friends situation and the casual flirting evolve into something else.

This is very well-written romance novel, but it's more than "just" about love and steamy moments (and trust me, this book has a lot of those too!). This is a book about stepping out of your comfort zone and actually living life. About growing up, and realizing things that seemed hard are actually remarkably easy. And about sharing who you are with the right person.

Loved it.

Just seeing the book, the amazing authors, the excellent title…… I was expecting a beautiful story, but as I progressed in reading, I realized that this book exceeded my expectations. Very much...
A beautiful book about love, in every form. A brother's love for his sister; the love between a man and a woman, friends’ love, but also pain… So much pain, that we even wonder how much pain the human heart can endure.
The story of Ruby and Jess - two hearts that share the same sadness, the same pain ... both of them struggling to live after the terrible accident that took away a person who was so important in their lives ... And how to continue to live and love after all that? How to cope with the assault of emotions that overwhelm them as they slowly check things out of the most important list in their lives? Should they give in or getaway while there is still time? And time is limited ...... And what will happen when the truth is told? Is there any hope for forgiveness?
As I turned the pages, I was overwhelmed by the emotions that were simply leaking from the pages. I could feel their fears and hopes. Using a light tone, filled with enough funny and sweet moments, the authors skillfully tackle a really serious subject- how to live after the loss of a loved one. The reality of grieving and embracing life after loss is so perfectly woven in the story. A story that shows just how fragile we are. One single, unfortunate moment and everything can change. And that it takes a lot of courage and love to heal and accept.
Told through the eyes of both the main characters, readers are given full insight into the past and present of their lives. Severe injuries and losing her best friend is something that our heroine cannot recover from. She is brave and strong, yet so afraid and vulnerable. I was rather impressed with her determination and willingness to confront and try to slay her demons. And she couldn’t do anything without the support of Jesse, our amazing hero. He is a loyal and devoted brother, a kind and protective friend, a passionate and attentive lover. I also loved their chemistry, also the fact that the book is a slow build-up, not just steamy scenes and sex, but a story of true friendship and love.
Raw and emotional, this story is simply captivating. Friends to lovers’ romance that leans towards angsty, focusing on the healing magic of love, this book should be a must-read for every romance reader.

Lauren Blakely is one of my top go to authors for happy, light romance. Her books are angst and drama free for the most part. So, whenever I just need a book to read that is going to make me smile she's at the top of my list. And when I saw she had teamed up with Lili Valente, who is right up on that list with her I was super excited.

But I absolutely did not get what I expected. And maybe that's all on me. Because I thought I was getting a light, possibly humorous, best friends brother romance. I just didn't expect it to be quite as emotional and be more than surface deep.

I did expect the steaming hot sex and chemistry and that was delivered in spades. Jesse was smoking hot but also sensitive and caring. He was the perfect hero. He was so determined to do whatever he could to make Ruby's life happier and just generally better.

Ruby was a little lost and getting to know her I completely understood why. But I loved that she wasn't whiny or self-pitying. She was just living life on auto pilot and trying to make everyone around her happy.

The history between Jesse and Ruby was sweet and sad and I loved it. They weren't looking back at everything that had brought them here with anything but fondness. The story progressed so naturally, and the epilogues were perfect.

Heroine: After a tragic accident that almost left her paralyzed, Ruby Valentine has worked hard for the past two years in order to regain the ability to walk and is ready to continue with her life working for her family’s pie company. Until Jesse reveals two life changing surprises.

Hero: Jesse Hendrix is Ruby’s best friend’s older brother. He’s known Ruby since they were kids but after that accident took his sister, Jesse and Ruby relied on each other to get through their shared pain.

Plot: Jesse just sold his very successful car restoration garage in New York in order to expand in LA, but he hadn’t mentioned it to Ruby. Having only two weeks left in NY he hits her with the news and offers to help her complete a “Living Her Best Life” to-do list his sister left behind for Ruby. While doing so, they indulge in the mutual attraction that had always been there and realize that their feelings go beyond that of friendship.

Feels: The attraction and romance between Jesse and Ruby jumps off the pages. It was substantiated by their history and easy banter. Their sexy times was sizzling hot and filled with emotion. Yet for some reason, I found it a bit difficult to connect with them.

Facts: Good With His Hands is a standalone romance by Lauren Blakely. It’s book #1 of the Good in Bed series. It is told from both points of view, and has a happy ending. Sub-genres: Friends To Lovers| Younger Sister’s BFF

Overall rating: 4

“It’s so easy to feel the hard thing, but so hard to say it.”
Emotional, Angsty, With Laughs, Fun, Steam, Swoons... Overall a Whole lot Of Goodness!
#This wasn't my 1st book by Lauren but This is my 1st book by Lili + Them as a Duo!
I liked how this story was low on External Drama, a little jealousy but no other Lovers involved. I LOVED Jesse, Ruby and adored their Families & Friends and liked how supporting they are through thick & thin. (Her Cousin Gigi, is sweet & Fun; I'm so excited for her Book Next!) I DEVOURED this book in 5hrs.

Ruby; Kind, Calm, Sassy; works for her Family's Pie Company- Sweetie Pie. She has an artistic Streak!
And She just finished 2 years of physical therapy after an accident that nearly destroyed her ability to walk and killed her bestie Claire. Jesse is C’s brother and they've helped each other through the pain but always remained in the friend zone (J+R've Always been Friends due to Claire & Now as she's Dead, Jesse can't even ask her if it's Ok to fall for her bestie).

Jesse; Caring, Romantic, Genuinely Nice; is an artist and owns an extremely successful, Country Renowned car restoration shop in New York and in 2 weeks expanding his Garage by opening one in Los Angeles.

The two've grown Closer in the last 2 years & The attraction has just Grown.
Jesse knows that Ruby has been sad. He finds a bucket list (Hmm, How?) that his sis left for Ruby and decides to help Ruby go through the list so she can start living her best life. This will be their last adventure together before he moves. And along it, they gave into their Desire! Knowing it can't be more (Friends with Benefits!) As he's going BUT we all know how it always goes *wink*.
"We’re not going to catch feelings. We’re not going to cause trouble. We’re just trying something new. And I want more of the new. So much more." ~Jesse

~Being together, Doing the Unexpected, Mushroom Mush, Race & Kisses *HOT!*, Fam time, making Beauty of Ugly, Sexy times, Work, Ocean & Beach, Overcoming Fear, Sweet times!
And Inevitably they both Catch Feels & Fall Hard.

Now we have the Fun Road Trip! So much happens here..
~On Road, Camping, Art & Kids, No Sleep with Bugs, Hotel & Truths..
He finally come cleans about the only Lie he'd told Ruby. What will it mean for them?
(I really like how honest & Straightforward they're with eachother😍)
~Need time, Right Decisions, Waiting, The Love Talk, I Love yous *Yay!*, Cue HEA!
I adore how Ruby finds herself again with this list, Along with her & Jesse Realising their Love for eachother!

And..The Book Doesn't End here! I have to say, J+R rock the long distance *Chuckle*.
The epilogues (Yup, There are multiples!) Are Beautiful! Plus what Jesse did at the end..*Swoon* Omg, I So love this book & Jesse+Ruby as a Couple😍.
A MUST Read, This good guy is just the One to hit the spot!

The beginning of the book I had a hard time connecting with the characters but the longer I listened the more I liked Ruby and Jesse.

Ruby is herself no matter how hard or easy it is she says what is in her heart. Putting herself out there isn’t always easy but I loved her honest. She knows what she wants and goes after it. She is learning to life for herself and I like that we see her heal.

Jesse is who I struggled to connect with but as the story moves forward I see how much he feels. He is a little lost and we see how Ruby is just exactly who he needs. They both have lost someone so dear to them I think that also brought them together in ways neither of them were expecting.

I really enjoyed the narration once I got a little farther into the books. I loved Lili’s voice and I look forward to listening to her again.

A DAMAGED GIRL, A GUY, AND A BUCKET LIST ... FINDING ONE'S BEST LIFE AND LIFE-CHANGING LOVE

“Love is like zombies. You can bury them, but they’ll keep coming back.”

The word “perfect” is barely adequate to describe this feel-good romance – such a sweet love story about perfect-for-each-other lovers, a treasure map meant to change a stuck life into a best life, and the promise of life’s possibilities. These two crazy kids are crazy about EACH OTHER. In a rare example of perfect writing, their inner thoughts enhanced real action, and were every bit as entertaining and necessary to get us inside their heads. I lurved that they were so openly flirtatious with each other, while treading a fine line of platonic friendship. It’s like they both can see the smoldering spark in each other but ignore it without hiding behind a pretense of disinterest with cover-up behavior. Fake pretending has been so overdone in many books, but this romance was a refreshing departure of not holding back.

“Jesse is a masterpiece hanging in a museum … soulful, expressive – fitting the artist’s heart behind his grease-streaked overalls. But those hands … he sets my skin on fire with those hands. I think I’m in love with them. I’m a quirky mug someone’s grandmother picked up at a craft bar.” ~~ “She has a pretty heart.” Sigh.

Playing out a bucket list can be so fun and illuminating – an emotional adventure. Jesse is the best friend’s older brother. The best friend who died and left accident survivor Ruby with a damaged soul and leg (this injury was a mystery) and a 2-year recovery. But, it’s time to get on with life, and Jesse steps up to show the way with a bucket list from her bestie to show Ruby how to live a better life. This is a story about true love and personal transformation with all the feels in between. But, the chemistry is temptingly strong, so rules are put in place. Rules meant to be broken in one of the most heart-thumping, romantic, and moving personal journeys of love I can remember.

Ruby takes her life and owns it, while Jesse watches with pride as she learns to reach out and grab what she wants. Every entry on the bucket list warmed my heart and advanced their romance by opening her heart and mind to new possibilities. Every step of the journey was done with meaning and intention.

“This moment feels meant to be … inevitable.” And the bonus? “Something that feels alot like falling in love.”

But what good romance exists without something threatening it?

“Lies – even little lies, white lies, convenient lies – always come back to bite you in the ass.”

The lows make the highs so much sweeter. This romance scooped me up and held me tight from first page to last with the kind of depth and swoony moments that make me wish they were real. Take the journey with them and experience one of the most satisfying romances you may ever read. A forever favorite romance.

“The list made me possible. The me I didn’t know I wanted to be. The me I love. The vibrancy of fresh choice. It’s turning me inside out, lifting me up. I want it all, I want my best life. I want the life my friend imagined for me. And the life I now believe I deserve.”

Loved this friends to lovers/best friend’s brother romance by the awesome writing duo of Lauren Blakely and Lili Valente. I feel in love with Jesse and Ruby. Their story felt so real. I was invested from page one and it stayed with me after I was done. You could feel the emotions that each character had for the other. The love between Jesse and Ruby gave me the feels. Loved them together and loved this story. Highly recommend it and I can’t wait for book 2.

Good With His Hands is the first book in the Good In Bed series, by two of my favorite authors, Lauren Blakely and Lili Valente! These women are fantastic authors on their own( I have read ALL of their books), but when they collaborate it's always genius level storytelling! Good With His Hands is a best friend's brother romance that made me laugh, tear up, smile, fan myself and laugh a little more. Jesse and Ruby suffered the loss of his sister, Claire, and her best friend two years ago. They've become close friends in that time and both of them are having more than friendly feelings. But that can't happen. Nope. Claire left a list for Ruby, something she wants her to do to make her happy. Jesse knows Ruby needs this list right now and not only wants her to have it, he wants to share it with her. He's moving away in a few weeks and he needs to do this with her. As they work through the list, the flirting and touching cross the line from friends to much more. Ruby is getting her spark back. She's finally becoming the woman she was before she lost her best friend. Jesse can't look away from Ruby and her beauty that shines from the inside out. Once he gets a taste of her it's all he can think about. There's no guilt when he touches her. No fear when he knows he's falling. But he is keeping a secret from her. When Ruby finds out the truth will she run away from Jesse or toward him? This story! Oh my. It's sweet, sexy, fun and hopeful! I love a forbidden romance, especially when they follow their hearts! Jesse is so sexy and sweet. Hot and knows how to use his words. Ruby is independent, talented and fun! Together they share a love for art that bonds them even more. Once I started I didn't want to put it down! Looking forward to the next book!

“You’re the it guy,” she says, holding my gaze with glittering eyes. “The unattainable sex god we mere mortals drool over as you walk by. But you’re so far above us you don’t even notice.”
“I notice you, Ruby,” I say, bracing my hands on either side of her hips. “I notice everything about you. Every . . . fucking . . . thing.”

God, he’s hot, fresh from the shower. I want to be there the next time he gets out from under the spray and dry him off with my tongue.

Good with His Hands is the first book in the A Good In Bed series by Lauren Blakely and Lili Valente. My two favorite authors are a duo once again and I couldn’t be happier! I have read and loved every one of their books separately so when they write together...it’s magic.

Two years ago, Ruby and Jesse’s lives changed forever. She lost her best friend and he lost his sister. At the same time Ruby lost herself in that accident. She was happy and full of life then she woke up broken and empty. Now, two years later she was on the road to getting her life back. She was finished with physical therapy, she managed the family pie shop, and did art as a side hustle. On the outside, she was moving on but Jesse knew. The light was still missing. They were friendly growing up together but over the last two years they have become each other’s rocks and he wants to see her shine. To reach for the stars and after finding one of his sister’s lists with Ruby’s name on top, he knew this was just the thing she needed. Maybe he needed it too. A finding yourself adventure, together.

Two weeks. That’s all they had. She was on vacation and he was moving across country. So, they had two weeks to discover, explore, and find what makes her, her. And in the process they find that they are more than friends. Even still, they only have two weeks and what a sexy, life-changing, emotional, toe-curling ride. In and outside of the bedroom. Is two weeks too short to catch feelings?

Love this!! I do love my lists and I actually have a bucket list with ninety-five items on it. I need to get on it! Anyway, I loved that Claire made these kinds of lists for them. She sounds like a kick ass friend who knew Ruby better than even Ruby herself. Friendship Goals. And speaking of Ruby, I love her. She is more badass than she believes, beautiful inside and out, and deserves all the stars. Jesse knows it and it’s one of the reasons why I love him too. He is so sweet, funny, and a mechanic! Yum. Together, they are adorable, sexy, funny, and overall fantastic. I can’t wait for the next book!!

Quotes:

“You’re the it guy,” she says, holding my gaze with glittering eyes. “The unattainable sex god we mere mortals drool over as you walk by. But you’re so far above us you don’t even notice.”
“I notice you, Ruby,” I say, bracing my hands on either side of her hips. “I notice everything about you. Every . . . fucking . . . thing.”

I like all the curves and bends with Jesse, even if I don’t know where the road is taking us.

“Halloween is probably a more appropriate time for dress-up.”
“Anytime is a good time for dress-up.” Gigi swings her arm toward her bedroom and dramatically pronounces, “To my closet. We shall dress for dinner in feathers and pearls!”

Ruby Valentine is starting a new chapter in her life. She has been through something terrible and came out of it on the other side, but now it is time to move on. But she has been kind of stuck in a rut, and her friend, Jesse Hendrix has just the way to get her unstuck and to broaden her horizons.

Jesse is Ruby's best friend's brother and they became closer friends during a difficult time for them both. He knows how hard it has been for Ruby to overcome. So now he is providing her with a To-Do List to push her outside her comfort zone and test her limits. And he is willing to go along for the ride. But he also has another surprise for her that she might not be so happy about and might be keeping a secret too.

Ruby has always been sweet, bright, and kind. Due to the things she has been dealing with over the last couple of years, her light sort of dimmed and she was a bit lost. But this is just what she needs to jumpstart her life and her heart. And Jesse has also struggled with grief, but is already planning on making big changes in his life. He is charming, caring, protective, and finding he is even a bit possessive. They share a love of art and creativity. They have history and have shared hard experiences. And they have a fun rapport and mutual respect while also harboring secret crushes on the other.

List, Lust, Life, Love. This is a sexy, sweet, emotional story of loss, trying new things, pushing limits, and figuring out what they need to be happy and fulfilled. These two hover the lines of friends and friends-with-benefits while their feelings are taking off on their own. But they have a set timeline and both have dreams and plans for their future.

Are they asking for heartbreak or will they find more than they ever expected?

These two author's writing styles flow well together. This snappy, hot rom-com is layered over some more difficult topics bringing more depth to their story. I was glad to see a couple of epilogues. I also liked her sassy cousin-friend, Gigi, and she will be the subject of the next book, Good To Be Bad.

Ruby just finished physical therapy after a terrible accident that left her life changed and claimed the life of her best friend. Her outlook has changed with her situation, but she is feeling a little stuck as she looks to what is next now that she is fully healed again.

Jesse found a bucket list of sorts from his deceased sister that he thinks Ruby needs to complete and he wants to be the one to help her. He is moving in a week, but this is the perfect opportunity to spend a few final days with her before he leaves and also help her spread her wings as she gets back on her feet. It doesn’t matter that he’s been attracted to her for years, what can happen in a week?

This was a fun friends to lovers story. I loved watching as they worked through the tasks on the list, as Ruby worked through what she wanted as her next steps, and they played with the fire that sparked between them. The story felt light, but also had a depth with the history between the characters and the secret Jesse was keeping.

This author duo is well matched. The story flowed, the characters were interesting, and the story kept moving forward. I look forward to more from this series, as the side characters continue to be developed and expanded into a full world.

"Be nice for fucks sake because there are too many mean people in the world and that sucks."

You know, sometimes a book hooks you in with just the prologue, and Good With His Hands does just that.

Jessie and Ruby's story starts with a roller coaster of emotions and ends with them happily under a love umbrella. But it's the story arc in between that had me hook. This is about Jessie & Ruby's love story, but I believe most importantly it's a story about friendship, in particular, female friendships. I found myself feeling more emotionally connected to Ruby and Clarie's friendship as the book went on.

There are also great lessons for female readers, which doesn't come as a surprise when it's written by two badass female best-selling authors. My biggest takeaway was the reminder that if women stop apologizing, they can take their power back. Ruby takes her power back physically, emotionally, and mentally. Lauren and Lili's character growth with Ruby is just spectacular. She marks off fears on her list one brave activity at a time and when the book ends, don't be surprised if you find yourself thinking, "What fear can I tackle?"

This book may also have you calling your best friend to tell them how much you love them. I sure did.

This is the second time Blakely and Valente have teamed up and it was another hit!

I really liked that it was a little more emotional and angsty than most of Blakely’s books. Both characters are dealing with the death of a loved one. His sister, her best friend (the same person). They share in grief but make an effort to live a full life while falling in love.

The friends to lovers trope is a favorite of mine because you don't run the risk of the insta-love issue.

Family is very important to Ruby and Jesse, and it makes for a great supporting cast around them, especially Ruby's cousin Gigi. I can’t wait for her story!

5 SMOOCHES!

I absolutely loved Lauren Blakely and Lili Valente’s first co-written novel, so when I heard they were teaming up again to write the Good in Bed series together, I was thrilled! Individually both of them have written some of my favorite romantic comedies, so I knew going into Good With His Hands that this pairing would be romcom gold. I was not wrong. Completely in sync, Lili and Lauren’s writing styles blended so brilliantly, transitioning indiscernibly between the two of them, to create a fantastically well written story.

Jesse and Ruby both suffered a life-altering loss in the accident that took his sister and her best friend, Claire, from them. Over the two years since the accident where Ruby was also injured, she and Jesse have become very close. Always a sweetie pie, Ruby’s a little lost, a little broken and a whole lot stuck. Jesse is gearing up for a big cross country move when he finds a bucket list Claire had made for Ruby. He decides this is just what she needs, and he’s going to be her wingman while she goes through Claire’s list.

They’ve always been friends, and while they’ve become much closer since Claire’s passing, there has always been a bit of an attraction simmering between them. Two weeks of amazing adventures, and it isn’t long before these two friends succumb to their chemistry. I loved everything about Jesse and Ruby. Their banter was perfection – playful, affectionate and natural. All this togetherness definitely ramped up the ever-present sexual tension between them to blistering levels, and it built up slowly to some seriously hot and steamy action. But there was also an emotional element to their story that was heartfelt, raw and real, and it was in those moments that I connected most with this couple.

Good With His Hands was entertaining, passionate, romantic and all that I hoped for from this dynamic duo of authors. I was engaged, pulled in and along for the ride every step of the way. The Good in Bed series is off to a fabulous start with this witty, charming, endearing best-friends-to-lovers romance! Five smooches from me for Good With His Hands by Lauren Blakely and Lili Valente!

4.5 “we are inevitable” stars!

I love a good friends-to-lovers romance and this one is entertaining. It has the right amount of heat, humor, and heart, and is the perfect mix of serious and silly.

Jesse and Ruby were always friends, but a tragedy brings them closer and they form a bond unlike any they’ve had before. To help Ruby heal from the tragedy that changed her life, Jesse gives her a list left by his sister and Ruby’s best friend, Claire. They have two weeks to get through a list before he heads to the west coast, and though they knew they would be checking off items and pushing Ruby’s boundaries, they never anticipated crossing lines they thought were firmly in place.

I adored Jesse and Ruby. They shared a grief that is heartbreaking and really related to each other. I loved the banter and the flirty moments between the two of them. It brought their friendship to life while giving us the sexual tension I crave from friends-to-lover romances. The progression felt natural and they really know how to turn on the heat when they decide to make the best of it during the two weeks, going all in before he leaves for good.
There’s something stirring between Jesse and me. Something different than the friendship we’ve been building the past two years. Something mutual, maybe. And that feels a little dangerous, but also exciting.

They both catch feelings and I love that even though they don’t jump at the opportunity to tell each other exactly how they feel, they don’t let unnecessary angst get in their way. I loved that they worked well together both as friends and lovers, and I believed their connection. They know each other inside and out, and they share a special bond because of Claire. I loved watching their feelings grow while still having their fun friendship stay strong.

I loved that the list brought Ruby out of her shell. And I am so glad that it was Jesse was along for the ride. Claire’s list was just what Ruby needed to really heal.
Claire didn’t leave me just individual missions. She left a bigger, underlying challenge.
It’s about being brave enough to open up to the world, to let it all in—the good and the bad, the things that are going to hurt like hell, and the things that are heavenly and sweet and healing. If I want the beauty, I’ll have to risk the pain.

It’s a fun and fresh new take on friends becoming lovers and I was hooked until the very end. There’s very little drama and they have to face the inevitable, but I think Ruby and Jesse handle it well. I loved the ending and the way things turned out.

Good With His Hands was such a bright and incredibly warm journey with adorable and deep feels. Lauren Blakely and Lili Valente gifted us a swoony and lovable romance that helped me escape.

Ruby has lost her best friend Claire in a car accident and was herself severely injured. As she is getting back on her feet- both physically and mentally, her best Friend's brother Jesse gives her a to do list left behind by Claire. A way to refresh her life. He promises to help her till he leaves for LA in two weeks. Ruby always had a crush on him and it's going to get complicated. Because Jesse has an ulterior motive.

This story is full of inspiring moments those will stay in my mind for a long time. Ruby had a lot of unprocessed negative feelings in her heart. She still misses Claire a lot and she doesn't know how to move forward without her partner in crime. That list helped her to push herself. To do the unexpected. To take risks. To chase dreams. Like pursuing her artist life rather than being stuck in family business or pursuing Jesse. She is a sweet and kind girl with so much love in her wounded heart. Jesse was her perfect new partner. He is just so dreamy, swoony and handsome. He had feelings for Ruby but he didn't allow himself to act on them. This story is full of flirty fun, witty banter, scorching hot chemistry and bitter sweet feels.

Good With His Hands by Lauren Blakely and Lili Valente was good time wrapped in incredible feels.

I love Lauren and Lili's books and now they have combined their talents to gives us Jesse and Ruby's story in Good with his Hands.
This couple has grown up together. Ruby was the best friend of Jesse's younger sister Claire. When the girls are involved in a tragic car accident that takes Claire away from them and leaves Ruby barely surviving it is time for them to join forces to learn and cope together.
Jesse is talented mechanic that restores old cars back to their glory. His talent and restoration ability has helped him make a name for himself. He has always had a torch for Ruby but never felt that he was good enough for her and did not want to ruin the beautiful friendship that they have developed.
He finds a list written by his sister Claire and he knows that he needs to share it with Ruby and help her check each item off the list.
Ruby is a talented artist that is just coming back from a horrific accident that has taken her back to learning how to walk again and cope with the loss of her best friend. She has always loved Jesse but she never thought that he saw her the same way. The list is everything that they never knew they needed and more. Who knew that the beautiful sister and friend could still find away to help them even after she was gone.
This couple was sweet, emotional, sexy, funny and heart warming. What a beautiful tale of loss, friendship, love and new beginnings. I fell in love with Ruby and Jesse.

Good With His Hands is the first book in the Good in Bed series by Lauren Blakely and Lili Valente. I have read and enjoyed books from both authors so it was no question whether or not I was going to read this book. I had some minor issues, to be honest, but overall I have positive feelings about the book.

My biggest issue is that I felt like I had missed a part of the story when it came to Ruby, Jesse, and Claire. Ruby was in an accident with Claire, who is Jesse's sister. Ruby made it out alive, but with severe injuries and Claire died. At the beginning of the book, Jesse gave Ruby a list Claire wrote while she was in the hospital and the two of them together try to cross everything off before Jesse leaves for LA. Both of them mention Claire a lot and she felt like such an important character, but to me, she felt so distant and unfamiliar.

I didn't find Jesse's secret to be such a big deal and I was a little letdown, but I was happy to see that Ruby's reaction to it wasn't dragged for too long. I gotta say, that I wasn't expecting some things to happen and I was surprised to read them. It made the book more realistic though.

Ruby and Jesse as a couple, worked for me. I liked both of them. I didn't connect with Jesse's character much because to me his voice was not as loud and clear as Ruby's was. She was vocal about everything and I feel like I got to know her better as a character.

Good With His Hands by Lauren Blakely and Lili Valente
4.5⭐️

Ruby and Jesse have become the best of friends after a car accident took the life of Claire - Jesse’s sister and Ruby’s best friend. This same accident also caused enough injury that it took Ruby two years and intense rehab to recover from. Now that her rehab is over, Jesse has a surprise for her: a list Claire left behind with things she wanted Ruby to do to ensure she’s living her best life. Jesse offers to work through the list with her before he moves across the country in a few short weeks - after all, it’s not like they’ll actually dare to develop feelings in that short time!

I so enjoyed this book and actually forgot that it was written by two authors as the writing was seamless. I fell in love with the characters and really loved watching them fall for each other. I particularly loved seeing Ruby grow as a person as she had a lot to work through. Jesse was an absolute sweetheart - he knew he had feelings for Ruby but pushed them aside to help her find herself and be at her best. I’m already eagerly awaiting Gigi’s story next year!

*I voluntarily read an early copy of this book.

The tragic accident that took her best friend Ruby left her with serious injuries that have taken two years to heal. With the help of her friend Jesse, who also happens to be Claire’s brother, she has started to reclaim her life but along the way she lost the woman she used to be.

Jesse is still trying to heal from the loss of his sister and the effect it had on Ruby. When he finds a list of experiences that Claire wanted to have, he convinces Ruby that this is something they should do together and since he is leaving town shortly they will be create some memories that neither will forget while maintaining their relationship and not cross any lines, right?

As much as they want to deny it the feelings that Ruby and Jesse have for each other goes much deeper than friends. Their journey is filled with hot chemistry, witty banter and all the feels as they help each other overcome the past so that they can have the future that they not only deserve but that Claire would want them to have.

Ruby Valentine just finished her physical therapy of an accident nearly caused her to never walk again. It is also killed her best friend

Jesse Hendrix is her best friend’s brother. He owns a successful car restoration shop. And he has always been attracted to Ruby. But now it feels so much more complicated since his sister died and he can’t even talk to her about it, like maybe ask her permission to date her best friend.

Jesse finds a bucket list that his sister left for Ruby and decides to help Ruby go through the list so she can start living again and put the accident behind her and go on with her life. And now that they are spending even more time together the feelings doesn’t get any easier and the attraction wont go away.

I enjoyed this story. It was sweet, and sad and emotional but also steamy and definitely hot characters and definitely hot chemistry. I love both of these authors books, so you know you are in for a good read from start to finish ♥

5 Stars!

Lauren Blakely and Lili Valente are two amazing authors on their own (big fans of both, especially Lili!) but when you smash them together in a duo book, you get absolute brilliance in the very best ways. This isn't their first time writing together and I pray it won't be their last.

Good With His Hands is the first standalone book in the Good in Bed series and y'all, just you wait until you meet both Jesse and Ruby... irresistible and unforgettable in every single moment they had. These two, gahhhhhhh, completely stole a piece of my heart and their emotional, steamy, unputdownable journey will keep you glued to the pages, racing to the last word.

This is a good one with a whole lot of heart. Run don't walk to grab up this beauty.

I highly recommend this book.

When Jesse lost his sister Claire and Ruby lost her best friend these two still remained close and when Jesse gives her the do list that Claire made for her before her death she knows she needs him to do it with her and he also wants to bring life back to Ruby but they get more then they bargained for. This story was so sweet but also sad

5 stars for this one! Can't wait for more from this dynamic duo!

What a great heartfelt story written by this amazing duo, Lauren & Lili!
This story will take you on a journey of two souls, Ruby and Jesse, who have suffered a loss like no other, her best friend and his sister.
When Jesse presents her with a list, written by his sister for her to complete, will she have the strength to do it? Can she get past her feelings for Jesse, ones that she's had most of her life, or will working side by side with him make them stronger? Can Jesse still pick up and leave once he realizes his feelings toward her are growing stronger?

I fell in love with these characters immediately! These authors make a great pairing, two of my favorite authors to boot, and they made the words pull out all your emotions! Great job ladies!

Good with his Hands is a feel-good story which leaves behind a lot of warm and fuzzies along with the desire to find a relationship as good as this one.

Ruby has spent the last few years rebuilding herself following a car accident which took the life of her best friend, Claire, who also happened to be Jesse’s younger sister. Although they were friends before, Claire’s death bonded the pair in their grief. With Jesse becoming very protective of Ruby and her recovery, not wanting to jeopardise her recovery in any way.

As Jesse is moving across the country to grow his business, time is running out for him to give Ruby a letter he found from his sister to Ruby. The letter is in fact a list of challenges/activities to recapture their dreams and lead them to the right path.

Jesse and Ruby undertake the list together with a limited time to finish it before Jesse’s big move. I adored the interactions between Jesse and Ruby alongside the dynamic chemistry they have. Moreover, I loved the way in which each activity they undertook brought them closer together and relit their joy for life. The narrative shows the stark difference between surviving and truly living.

I also adored the way in which Jesse and Ruby’s memories of Claire were brought to life through their adventures together. The best way to honour a loved one is to keep their memory alive.

As the pair grow closer, they inevitably agree to a fling with a predetermined expiry date with Jesse moving across the country. But could they really just part ways when the time comes?

Good with his Hands is a wonderful story which proves good things require nurturing and relationship require work as well as chemistry.
