After 60: The secrets to achieving happiness, health, and fulfillment in later life – Part I

Rate this book
There are so many other “find happiness” books on the market, why buy this one? Great question, and indeed this book may not be right for you, but let’s take a quick look and see. When we first conceived of this book, we knew we wanted to help Retirees / Seniors find happiness, health, and fulfillment in later life, even if they didn’t have a lot of money. However, we also wanted our book to be different. In addition to being informative, we wanted it to be entertaining, engaging, and readable, too. Informative Above all else, we wanted to inform you. So we created a book that shows This last point is the most important, as it provides you with a realization that health is not only related to your physical body, but also to your mental and emotional states, too. But more than mere realization, we go a step further to show you EXACTLY how a change in one area of your life affects other areas as well. Lastly, the advice given is IMMEDIATELY ACTIONABLE, and we have included easy to follow exercises to help you get the most out of the techniques in this book. Entertaining and Engaging We wrote this book in a story format, as a conversation between two a client and a therapist. We wrote it this way so you would find the book both entertaining and engaging. We also wanted to write a “fast read” that you could finish in a few sittings. Readable We created this book with slightly larger type that is a bit easier on the eyes. We also used shorter paragraphs with lots of white space around them. In addition, we used short sentences written in plain English. We wrote in a conversational tone with no complicated jargon, large words, or psychobabble. This makes the book easy to understand and follow. No need to keep putting the book down to look up complicated words in the dictionary. We did all of this to make the book more readable and enjoyable for you. But don’t take our word for it; here are what others have said about our

I found the dialogue format awkward, especially when it would stop the dialogue, and tell the reader to write out bobs list. The dialogue itself was awkward, and didn’t keep my interest.

I think I expected a different format, one that didn’t have to go through the awkward conversations as Bob had to be explained everything multiple times.

I couldn’t finish it.

As I begin to think about retirement in a few years and ask myself "What next? - what will I do with myself," this book grabbed my attention. This book is written by a mother and son (with the son acting as "journalist") to be able to share his mother's life-long teachings and experiences in helping others lead a fulfilling life. The book is written like a series of counseling sessions led by "Carol" with a man named "Bob." Even if you can't relate to everything Bob is thinking and feeling, there is enough there that any of us can take away learnings to apply to our own lives. We also get insight into Carol's inner thoughts as she is counseling Bob. Between each of the counseling sessions there is homework for Bob -- techniques for mind, body, and spirit. These techniques are also all summarized in the appendix so I can refer to them easily.

What makes this book really special is I also see it as a loving tribute from a son to his mother. It is clear he is tremendously proud of his mother and her life work. I hope someday my son will be inspired to write a book about my work. I am intrigued too that the title says "Part 1" -- I am looking forward to what might be next!
