Rate this book
Pink's Flowers is in the middle of a busy bridal season, and Lacey is struggling to find a replacement for her irreplaceable assistant Ryder Kirkland. In the midst of dealing with quirky, incompetent and occasionally just unpleasant new floral assistants, Lacey finds her focus and time once again taken up by murder.

The West Coast Bird Watching Society has come to town for some birding frivolity and excursions. When one of the members winds up dead, Lacey and her super nose jump into action. The victim had plenty of enemies and not many friends so theories and accusations take flight . Detective Briggs and Lacey must untangle the clues to find the killer.

This is a great book by London Lovett. I love Pink and pale. Pink is trying to find an assistant to help out while Ryder is gone and it's not going well.

Lacey is having a lot of trouble finding a replacement for Ryder while he went on his trip, and just when she finds a decent floral arranger, problems start! The floral arranger is very pushy and so into herself and her talent she does not even notice when she steps on Lacey's toes and ruffles Kingston the crow's feathers.

The West Coast Bird Watching Society has come to town for a week or so and this is wedding season for Lacey who is having enough of a hard time keeping assistants and then murder happens.
Unfortunately, the man murdered was very 'unliked' by most of the members of the Society, which he belonged to. He has quite the history of mayhem, and this causes a lot of false leads because the kinds of things the man had done in the past to a lot of the members in the Society, caused false leads.

In between trying to run her shop and being an integral part of the case with her boyfriend Det. Briggs, this book kept me guessing until the very end! Do yourself a favor and treat yourself to a Port Danby mystery, they are all so good, and keep me excited for the next one to come out.

Although they can be read as a stand alone, I have gotten so much enjoyment out of reading all of them. Each time I get a new one it like checking in with friends! I gave this book 5 Stars!

Mom and I do not think there can ever be a bad book in London Lovett’s Port Danby Series. To be fare mom got sick and this is what we did well stuck in bed and it maybe a bit silly to say, but it was some of the best time spent in bed. (If it this says anything about London Lovett’s talent for writing, but she made mom completely forget she was stuck in bed and sick as some points.)
We open the book with Lacey telling us about how many assistants have not worked out for her, Ryder is off working in the Amazon for a couple of months, and right off mom was laughing, because Lacey’s first assistant after only a handful tells her he is leaving to returning to his home planet; in a very serious voice. (Can we just say this is the best part about reading London’s book is just the humorous stories and moments she slips into her books.) Lacey however did find one wonderful assistant to help her with the flowers. She is a really wonderful person, but sadly she has not talent for flower arranging or working with flowers in general, so sadly Lacey is still on the hunt for someone to help with making flower arrangements.
Well Lacey is on the hunt for new flower arranger, the West Coast Bird Watching society comes into town and Lacey ends up going to drop off some cookies with Else at the convention. (Mom and I really like that the author constantly brings up Lacey Hyperosmia, if one takes notice the author is also really good a using it to alerting to us who the killer.) Sadly, the main event at the convention does not go as planned. Lacey is sighed up to drop brownies off at the West Coast Bird Watching Society and well their finds, with the rest of the group, the dead body of one of its members. Lacey texts brings and he shows up to help Lacey solve the crime. (May mom and I also say we love how Lacey and Brigg’s relationship has been progressing over these last couple of books and watching them work together with all their awesome teamwork and chemistry just makes mom and I ready to jump over the moon.)
This book was seriously good and you owe it to yourself to start reading this series.

“Cornflowers and Corpses” is another great read in the Port Danby series. This time Lacey is trying to run her florist shop during bridal season without the benefit of her trusty assistant, Ryder. He is off studying rare plants in the Amazon. As Lacey searches for the right assistant she find she needs two. Unfortunately the very capable floral arranger, Barbara suffers from a serious problem with being an egotistical know it all.

Meanwhile, a group of bird watchers are holding their convention in Port Danby. When one of their most despised members is murdered, Lacey and Detective Briggs team up once again to solve the crime.

I just love this series but this one read a little lack luster for me despite the most interesting antagonists. I guess what bothered me was I was missing the limited moments of personal relationships with some of the supporting characters. I wanted more especially between Briggs and Lacey. Oh well, you can’t always have a plot your way. Lol.

Despite my concern this continues to be a consistently great series and I am looking forward to the next installment.

Oh MAN. Lacey attempting to find someone to replace Ryder while he's on his trip is...well, it's not going as well as she'd like. She's found a solid someone for the customer side, but a floral arranger? YIKES! And the newest one to walk through her door is NOT ENDEARING IN THE LEAST.

Good thing a juicy murder has landed in Port Danby to help Lacey take her mind off her assistant woes. While Lacey always enjoys helping bring a killer to justice, sniffing out clues (literally) is just the thing she needs right now. Bonus, she gets to spend quality time with her dude and that's always a good thing.

You know, even if it's over a dead body.

Anywho. Bird watchers. A thoroughly unlikeable dead person. A little theft and plagiarism. And Lacey right in the middle of things. But really, given the drama going on at her shop, can you blame her for throwing herself into solving a little murder? *thumbs up*

Always fantastic!

I so enjoy London's books. She makes them sound like we are right there with her. I smell the flowers & sneeze from the dust among the antiques. I gain 5 lbs per book from Elsie's bakery.

Another enjoyable read

I love reading about Kingston's antics. The mysteries are entertaining as well. This one was a little slow paced, slower than the usual pacing, but still very enhoyable.

Another 5 star read from London Lovett in her Port Danby series.
I particularly enjoy the way she tells a story so that you feel like
you are there in the flower shop or in the bakery, etc. Can't wait
for the next one !!

I’m glad to be back to being able to read because I wanted to get back to ,y books.

This one had a little too much drama that lasted too long in the beginning but then the rest of the book was fun. !

This one made me wish that Pink would grow a backbone - just not as good as some of the other installments in the series.

Lacey and James return in the latest cozy mystery story from Port Danby, and when Lacey stumbles over the body of an obnoxious man she met the day before, she can't fail to get involved in solving his murder.

At the flower shop, there are staffing issues as Ryder has gone overseas for a sabbatical and Lacey is finding it hard to find good staff.

Of course there's Nevermore the Crow and Bear the Dog too.

A really good read and I can't wait to download the next book in the series. Series best read in order of publication.

This is a generous 3 star and it's only just a 3 star. I felt bad because I love this series and until the reveal of the murderer it was a 2 star book.

The one saving grace of the book was that I didn't know who was the murderer. I thought it was going to be one person but it wasn't really set up, but then when they revealed the killer I was like "Wow, that makes more sense."
The writing was good as usual.

Also, Dash has a bit of a storyline in this book and I like when Dash is in the story.

So the B story in the book was Lacey is trying to hire a temporary assistant since Ryder is in the Amazon studying plants there. I know it's supposed to be funny, but really these cast of characters that they say come though is a little out there. If they stuck with someone who showed up late the first day and asked to leave early, and the guy who had to return to his home planet would have been sufficient.
It was an interesting storyline and I know was supposed to be funny, but mostly it was just sad to watch.

So why did I think it was a 2 star book until the end: 1. From the weather, landscape, and just attitude I always felt Port Danby was an East Coast town in Massachusetts. It just felt that way to me, but this book suggests that it's a West Coast town with the West Coast Bird Watching Society convention in town. I know that you can have a transcontinental convention, but it didn't play that way.
2. When Lacey first "inspects" the crime scene she doesn't really rely on her nose and she starts looking for evidence. She's going beyond what she can and should do. She's basically contaminating the crime scene because any evidence found would have a broker chain of custody.
For the last few books Lacey's been getting a little brazen is what she can actually do and any good lawyer can get their client off if they argue the police are using a civilian to garner confessions and evidence because she circumvent the legal system by not reading rights or getting warents.
I know it's a book and not real life, but sometimes it's just a little much.
3. And really the biggest, the first half of the book it felt like I was reading one of her other series. From her interaction with Briggs, to her investigation style, it just felt a little off. It could have been the whole West Coast thing, but it was all just a little off. It wasn't until Dash comes in that if felt like a Port Danby story to me. About 1/2 way through it started feeling like a Port Danby story. There really wasn't much Lola or Elsie. And even when they were in the first part it was like an after thought.

I know another book is coming bout soon and I'm still going to read it, but this book was just frustrating.
