Nikki Rose

For as long as she can remember, Nikki Rose has enjoyed writing stories. For years, writing was just a hobby for this South Carolina native. It was a way to let out all the stories floating around in her head. After one of those stories took on a mind of its own, outgrowing even the parameters of a single book, Rose knew she had to pursue her dream.

Married to her high school sweetheart and best friend, Rose feels she is truly living out a romance story of her very own. As a stay at home mom of two, she is blessed with the time needed to work on her writing career full-time while her kids are at school or in the wee hours while normal people sleep. She considers herself a music-obsessed chocoholic and hopeless romantic who enjoys weaving romance stories with a healthy dose of mystery and suspense.

I was enjoying this book and then just towards the end they split up and he sleeps with another woman for two months. I don’t care if they had split up but he admitted he loved the h but as he said to himself he was still a man and he was very physically attracted to the ow. Why have him sleep with another woman and make us witness how much he enjoyed sleeping with her at just towards the end of a freaking book?? I can’t even get over how pissed off I feel after having been invested in the story and then to read about his sexual exploits with the ow towards the end was just truly disgusting! So much for loving her he couldn’t even keep it in his pants for two months!

Gritty, suspenseful, and risqué!

Crossing the Line is a twisty, fervid tale that takes you on a journey into the life of Adelaide Cole, a sweet young woman who after moving to a new city to start afresh inadvertently finds her life turned upside down after she witnesses a murder, is placed under protection, and the dangerous and intense Hunter enters her life.

The prose is tight and seductive. The characters are consumed, obsessive, and impulsive. And the plot told from alternating POVs is an ominous, fast-paced mix of twists, turns, violence, depravity, sex, murder, and romance.

Overall, Crossing the Line is a tension-filled, dramatic, darkly erotic, thrill ride that reminds us that sometimes the line between good and evil is often quite blurry.

Thank you to BrizzleLassBooks and Nikki Rose for providing me with a copy in exchange for an honest review.

I m not sure how to put it nicely...😕

This could have worked if there weren't any romanticizing of the anti-hero...

And then it might have worked as a crime action packed drama...maybe

But due to several illogical, naive and quite lame, or, even more, unnecessary solutions in the plot, this story just didnt work for me.

With all due respect towards the author, I do acknowledge the efforts put into the realization of the storyline, but there just wasn't enough credibility nor connection needed for me to be fully immeresed or appreciative of the story or characters.

*shrugs*

That doesn't mean this book won't find its public, but I will take the disliking side, no matter how subjective and partial it is based on.

Wow, my second Stockholm Syndrome type book in a week! Loved this book by Nikki Rose about Addy and Hunter! Let's see if I can do with without spoilers: When Addy tries to restart her life with a new apartment in the big city, things go downhill when she witnesses a crime. Hunter, who lives across the street from her, finds himself intrigued by Addy and keeps an eye out for her. Addy has to get into witness protection, and suddenly, everything she thought she knew about the crime she witnessed, and the situation she finds herself in, is turned upside down.
I loved how Hunter dealt with his feelings for Addy, and all of the action in this plot-driven romance. The writing felt almost episodic, the scenes moving through my mind like a movie, which I found enjoyable and which made it hard to put my Kindle down. CROSSING THE LINE is a well-thought out, action-packed romance that had me swiping through the pages. I'm looking forward to more books by this exciting new author!

Captivating Storyline and Intriguing Characters
I underestimated this book and was more than pleasantly surprised! The story line was mind blowing and there was never a dull moment! It has made it on my favorite list, with a new character crush!

The characters are strong, likable, and well developed. As Nikki Rose’s debut novel, she is a genius and mastermind of suspense. The way she weaved the plot together, unraveling just enough of the back story to keep you guessing until you needed to know.

Hunter is a strong, likable character but with that dark side and jarred past.

Addy is a character everyone can relate to, with unfortunate events happening that she can’t control.

Together, Hunter and Addy’s story unfolds in front of you, making you eager to find out what happens next. Each character has a very complex personality and history which is all revealed in due time. It is definitely a page turner, I couldn't put it down!

I’m definitely looking forward to reading more from this author!

Crossing the line

Nah, not my kinda book. Neither liked or disliked the story.. it was okay-ish. I guess it might have worked for me as a crime action packed..

The story had potential, the start was really nice but then with every chapter my interest deteriorated. I don’t want to spoil this book for you guys that’s why I am not giving any spoilers. It might be of your taste, give it a try.

In fiction, romance is so much better when it is laced with murder and mayhem! I can take ‘sap’ but I do enjoy when it’s balanced out with something different.

In Crossing the Line, Addy, our female main character, has recently moved into a new city after her engagement broke off (and good riddance, the guy is a douche!) and she quickly makes new friends. After a night out with her new acquaintances, she witnesses a horrific crime in a dark alley. Just like that, boom, she’s whisked into a cop car and deposited into witness protection.

But it’s not really that simple… because, across the road from Addy’s apartment, Hunter has been watching her. And wanting her…

In witness protection, as Addy tries to make the most of her new identity and life, she meets a charming fella- hot as hell, complete with manners and all! But, again, it’s not really that simple… because Addy’s secret of being in witness protection is not the only big baggage thrown into the mix here. This is not a – move twice and settle down in a small town kind of story where the only problem is gossip and trying to be accepted by the natives.

When all of the hidden secrets burst out into daylight, Addy finds the reality is that much harder to wrap her head around. She questions everything and everyone she knows in the dire situation she is in and truly, all of the choices become rather questionable. Her budding relationship takes a twisted turn and the danger she’s in might be nothing compared to the danger she will be subjected to from a way larger scheme. So, you see, there’s action and intrigue to go around plenty! I can’t give away too much detail to the story line that evolves because there is a good amount of surprise element added to the mix which I wouldn’t want to know before reading the book.

First, I would like to address a couple of areas that have nothing to do with this specific book but with the genre itself and always tend to not surprise me at all. The usual- ‘he sees her from afar and is instantly drawn and just NEEDS to know more’; the ‘I don’t know her but I want to be with her’ … It’s a regular thing in romance and I can understand it as a tool but the immediate borderline obsession never was my kind of thing. From another point of view, it can be romantic, right? Whatever rocks your boat. And that has always been, was in this case and always will be my personal, favourite pet peeve with romance genre 🙂

Crossing the Line is presented in 2 POVs. Addy’s and Hunter’s. When I first started reading the book, I consciously wanted to pay more attention to the respective female/male POV ‘voices’. I always find the POV’s more distinct when reading romance, for some reason. All I can say, and this is generally a good sign, that before I knew it, I had zoomed through the book and that I had received a seamless, zero plothole, realistic account from both the female and the male side. Sometimes, we get stuck on the nitty-grittys in books, even though the reading experience was smooth sailing. I think the smooth sailing bit has a lot more weight than I personally give stories (and authors!) credit for. I can honestly say, it was thoroughly enjoyable and the suspense element kept me fully gripped.

Addy is, thank the heavens, a woman who can stand on her own two feet. She’s not one of those whiney female exemplars who put me off romance in the first place. She’s down to earth and nice. I mostly didn’t judge her for the decisions she made, I tried to place myself into her head and understand why she would stop fighting and stop demanding answers at times , but again.. I’ve done some really stupid shit in my life, so not judging! I like how the title of the book ties into the transformation that Addy goes through.

The truths she learns and the different side of the story, Hunter’s, that she comes to know can be quite a lot to adapt to, but I am glad she was willing to keep her mind open and absorb the fact that life is not just that black and white…

Hunter is our main male character! Easy enough to like, even though his role is the most complex one. He is ultimately the guy who has the most personality to carry in this book. The good side and the other side, and they create such a great contrast as well as that needed internal conflict. Stubborn and slightly hot headed when it comes to certain actions but definitely not evil. Hunter’s side of the story was also enhanced by the addition of his friend Chris- the two lads demonstrated some real manly understanding in between each other!

Finally, the sex! I feel like I don’t want to mention it at all?! Because it feels like it was just right- amount wise and detail wise. I usually tend to complain or make giddy comments in reviews when the book I’ve read was a complete pointless bang-fest, but again, in Crossing the Line any intimacy happened when and where appropriate. So, happy camper right here! *points at self*

Overall, a very enjoyable, fast paced and brilliant reading experience! I enjoyed spending my time with this romantic suspense very much!

It was only due to a fellow blogger asking if I would like to read and review Crossing the Line that it even touched my radar. I’ve not read anything else by Nikki Rose so I could only base my opinion as to whether it might be worth a shot on the cover image and blurb.

Now I do like my romance to have a bit of an edge, anything that mentions crime, brutality and witness protection is likely to send little quivers of interest up my spine.

Poor Addy, has come from a brutal background with her ex, she just wants a new start, clean slate, to get on and rebuild her life with no interruptions. But damn me she happens to witness a crime and her life is not her own again.

Hunter is the guy across the street who takes a shine to Addy, how much will he watch her and what will he see. In a story of romantic suspense I always hope to like the bad boy. Hunter is the ultimate in oozing sex, he sparks in all directions when he meets Addy always a good sign of action to come.

This book will have you leaping through the pages, ignoring anyone who may be talking to you and certainly keeping you awake at night. Not only is it a sleep stealer because it’s so addictive but also you don’t want to leave them on their own because who knows what might befall them in the intervening period until you can resume.

Crossing the Line is a must for anyone who wants steamy action, a male who is so alpha you couldn’t cope with more heat and enough twists in the tale to keep you unravelling it for a mighty long time. Sheer entertainment value, I enjoyed this one! I will look forward to anything else Nikki writes … I believe this is the first in a series so there should be more to come.

Thanks to the author, publisher and Claire for my copy and inviting me onto the blog tour .. I read and reviewed voluntarily.

Oh my, this book was not what I was expecting at all.  Totally twisted and I loved it!  This story was so thrilling and exciting.  I was turning pages till I could not turn anymore and I still wanted more.

All Addy wants is a new fresh start in life.  After her ex cheated on her she moved to the city to do just that.  But then one night she ended up in the wrong place at the wrong time.  Now she is on the run from a killer.  Little does she know that this killer will want more than her death, he wants her soul.

I went into this story thinking that this was your common story of serial killer stalking his next victim and falling in love and wanting to consume her.  Man, I was totally off base.  This book had such an amazing twist that it threw me for a complete loop.  Wow!  I just have to say if you want a book that is an edge of the seat good, with plenty of thrills and chills and WTF! moments, then this book is it.  Not only was the story line unique and new, it had amazing characters that not only entertain but grasp you and hold you hostage throughout the book.  Page after page, you can't put it down.  You have to know what is happening next.  There was one moment when I took a deep breath and thought I was going to have a heart attack from the shock of the scene.  Intense read.  Loved every minute of it.  It was full of cloak and dagger espionage stuff.  Some Mission Impossible stuff.  I highly recommend this book for those who are thrill seekers.  You will not be disappointed.  I know I was not.

I received a copy and voluntarily left a review and all opinions are my own.

Having never read a book by Nikki Rose, I really didn't have any frame of reference to go by when leaping into this fictional world. All I knew is the blurb intrigued me and I absolutely love suspenseful romance! Their is something about the mystery and and the twist and turns that keeps me in knots and on the edge, anticipating what will come next. After reading Crossing The Line, I can say that Nikki Rose did just that with the tangled web that she weaved between Hunter and Addy. They are sexually charged from the moment Hunter “spies” Addy and things are downright explosive once they meet each other. Their cat and mouse game and guessing of who is good or evil had my mind and emotions twisting to and fro.

I fell so hard and fast for Hunter and the mystery that constantly surrounded him. I struggled with loving this book boyfriend who didn't look like he was on the up and up throughout his story but alas, he marked my heart and there was no going back. Hunter is fierce, all kinds of alpha, and has layers so deep that you can't help but want to peel them back to discover the man underneath.

Adelaide is a heroine who comes across as to trusting with her big heart and naive ways but you soon realize that she is a survivor through and through. I found Addy to be refreshing and came to admire her inner strength and fell right along with her.. head over heels in love with Hunter. My heart felt deeply each and every emotion that Addy experienced from the beginning of her dangerous journey.

Nikki Rose delivers a sexy suspense that will have your heart zigging and zagging all over the place. I highly recommend Crossing The Line for a romance that blurs all the lines and has you falling for the characters and wanting so much more by the end of the book. Nikki paints a fictional world full of passion, danger, and intrigue that is all consuming. I cannot wait to read more books by Nikki and see where else she takes me.

At first, it looks as if Nikki Rose has written a book that is more thriller than romance. Her free-flowing narrative alternates between points of views, sometimes tense and partly logical, and at other times naive and immensely erotic. Her book touches upon an issue that has been close to my heart: trafficking of humans.

Witnessing something horrible and then living one’s life in the prison of a witness protection program is even “more horrible”. A young woman restarts her life in a new city and her life goes haywire. She finds it difficult to convey the magnitude of her uncertainties to strangers. And then a hunky male finds himself watching her across the road from his apartment. Helplessly drawn in by her attractiveness, he goes on doing what he should NOT, and things take unpredictable turns. The novel's twists come, fast and screeching.

[ I sipped the tea which seemed to calm me. In fact, it was relaxing me a little too much. My body felt too heavy and I leaned back in my seat.
“You okay?”
“Yeah, I just... What kind of tea was that?”
“Oh, this? An herbal blend. Do you like it?”
I stood and the room spun, the floor jerking out from under my feet.]

This book has Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes type dialogues and action. Will the protagonist become a victim or a victimizer? We don’t know yet—that’s Nikki Rose’s prose style.

As we begin to learn about the character through the prose, we understand what an identity crisis really is and how one should behave during a witness protection period. This novel is halfway done before its first reveal, but it’s worth the wait. Towards the end, plenty of revelations ensue, and as they pile up, screams, police sirens, fire engines and more, nearly destroy the character’s possibility of a happy future. Not everything makes a lot of sense, but the storyline and its characters, along with the author’s timely inclusion of shocks and surprises, make CROSSING THE LINE an exciting read.

I was intrigued to read this book, which is described as a romantic suspense novel, as it's not something I would normally read. Suspense yes, romance no. So, it was going to be a different experience for me.

I liked Addy immediately. She's starting a new life after leaving a cheating ex, settling in, making new friends and has a new job to start. But then it goes horribly wrong when she is the only witness to an awful crime. For her safety, she is moved to a small town under a new name. and takes a job in a local cafe. She's certainly not looking for a new relationship, but then she meets a visitor to the town.

Hunter is initially very mysterious, and I thought I knew where his character was going, but I was wrong. And glad to be so. I was conflicted about him, and sometimes angry with him, as I struggled to understand his motivation but it did become clear. Both characters are well rounded and their actions are described beautifully. There were a couple of moments when my heart broke for Addy, and I was right there with her as she tried to make sense of what was happening and how she was feeling. I liked the more minor characters too, particularly Chris.

The chemistry between the couple is intense and immediate. It is perhaps a little unrealistic (or maybe it's just that I've never been that lucky!) but it is written in a way that makes it believable. The sex scenes are beautifully written without being crass, and I loved the tentative emotional connection that starts to build between them, and was glad to see that it didn't always run smoothly.

There is plenty of action - of all sorts - throughout the book, and, for me at least, the ending was perfect. I look forward to reading more by this author in the future.

I was given the opportunity to read this book for an honest review. I will be reviewing the entire series, and this one was well worth the read! Crossing the Line focuses on the story of Hunter and Addy. This story had me on the edge of my seat from the very beginning, refusing to let me put it down. I HAD TO KNOW!

At the beginning, you think Hunter is nothing but a killer, but as the story unfolds, you find out the truth. At first, I didn’t like him, I was completely turned off by him. Especially when he treated Addy the way he did, but I understood it as the book continued. There are times I wanted to hit him, but by the end of the book, I was totally infatuated with all things Hunter. He just wants to keep Addy safe, even if he goes about it in all the wrong ways.

Addy was burned by her ex and now she’s in a new city. Little does she know that her life is about to get turned upside down. After witnessing a murder, she goes into witness protection and life only gets crazier from there. She trusts Hunter, but when things go sideways, she’s not sure who she can trust.

Hunter is addicting. His words, his affection. Once I get past the rough exterior that makes him, him… he is HOT! Lord. I needed to turn my AC on in this house to cool off! And its COLD where I am y’all! Together, Hunter and Addy create sparks big enough to create the best bonfire ever, and each time after is just as hot as the previous.

I’m not gonna lie, when I first started the book, I wasn’t sure I would like it… but I couldn’t put it down and by the end, I was sucked in so deep, you’d think I was living in their world with them. Nikki wrote out such amazing details that you feel like you are watching this as though it’s a movie playing out on the TV in front of you.

Crossing the Line is an original read, and the reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because there was some unnecessary things that could have been omitted, as not only did they piss me off in a huge way, but Hunter is now on my crap list. Addy has started her life over again, by breaking off an engagement, moving to a new apartment in a very different area than her & the douche fiance were moving to. She quickly witnessed a horrific crime, which landed her in Witness Relocation, and it's there that she meets a man name Hunter. See, Hunter sees here when she's moving in the newest apartment, and is drawn to her, but here's the rub, it's not clear whether he's a good guy or bad. That's when the twists start to turn in every direction, so my f-bombs dropped loudly. Now, Addy & Hunter have lethal chemistry, which won't be denied for long, but I'm still not clear if I like Hunter or not, I guess time will tell. More twists come out of the woodwork while louder f-bombs drop from my mouth. Danger is definitely winning the day throughout. Now, just when I'm on the side of really like Hunter, a secondary named Olivia really gets involved in the story, and any positive feelings I had about Hunter went up in a poof of smoke to be honest. Only half of her emergence in the story was could be considered called for, the other half was inappropriate & made Hunter look like a giant liar. But, don't take my word for it, it's different strokes for different folks, so one click to come to your own conclusions. HIGHLY RECOMMEND the gripping portion of Crossing the Line!

Hunter’s life is filled with terror and violence. One night he happens to look out from his balcony across the street to the next building and sees a beautiful, carefree woman dancing while unpacking. Intrigued, he can’t help but to keep watching her discreetly. He wants to meet her and when it finally happens, it unfortunately is not the way Hunter had wanted or expected.

Addy is dealing with breaking off her engagement with her cheating ex and moving into a new city. When she goes out for a night of drinking and karaoke with some new friends, she never expects to be whisked away from the police into protective custody after witnessing a crime. After obtaining a new identity and settling in her new home, she starts working for the local diner and meets a handsome customer, Hunter. After a few dates and ending up in bed together, Addy makes a startling and shocking discovery about Hunter. With Addy now in danger, how can she trust the one person she was starting to fall for, knowing who he really is and what he is capable of?

What an amazing debut! The story kept me captivated and I enjoyed the characters. Looking forward to reading future books from this author (hoping Chris’ book will be next!).

From the first page I was grabbed by Addy, who appeared to be a gentle character and just knew she would meet someone epic.

Her story is like no other and quite the adventure. Moving to a new town, breaking off her engagement, getting kidnapped, drugged and more! Seriously, this girl... her life is flipped on it's head.

At the heart of it all is Hunter- gentlemen, lover and killer. I liked getting to see all his sides, even his creepy peeping tendencies kept my attention :)

The dual point of view gave me a better understanding of all the emotions in play and the angles being played.

Sexy and action packed, it was an easy read with a HEA.

Crossing The Line is Hunter and Addy’s story. Nikki Rose is a new author to me, so I wasn’t sure what to expect. I liked their story. It kept interested all the way to the end.

I have mad respect for Addy. She moved away from all of her family, even after finding out her ex-fiancé was cheating on her.

I wasn’t sure how to feel about Hunter at the beginning of the book. He kinda came off as a creeper 😂. Come to find out, that couldn’t be farther from the truth. He always had Addy’s best interests at heart, especially after she was the only witness to a crime.

I can’t wait to read Chris’s book next!

I voluntarily read an arc and this is my honest review

Hunter is a man of mystery. His life is full of secrets and danger. He didn't release what was missing until the empty apartment across the road was no longer vacant. Hunter became obsessed with watching her every movement. There was something about her that called to him.
Addy was new to the city. Determined to put the small town life behind her. New beginning is what she craved. Just as she is settling in her life is turned upside down. In a moments notice her simple existence will never be again.
