This mafia romance has really become very intriguing & the continuation of the storyline from “Mafia’s Dirty Secret #1” to this book “Mafia’s Fake Bride #2” is smoothly done. I found the plot well-written & intriguing, it is filled with intense situations & events that are well-described. It was interesting to see how the relationship continued to develop between the two main characters (a man, Matteo Mazza) who was actually sent to collect a debt & a quite naïve & innocent young woman (Marie Hebert) whose abusive mother (Ruby) had passed away naturally just to make life a little more interesting, Matteo’s conniving & devious Aunt (Celeste) becomes involved & she is not very happy.
There is: twists & turns, action, drama, suspense, mystery, danger, threats, enemies, confessions, compromises, verbal conflict, threats, emotional turmoil, an assassination attempt, injuries, complications & speculation. Please note that this book does end on a cliffhanger.

I think the title is deceiving. In this next book about Marie and Matteo's relationship they marry. It is not a secret. It is not fake. They really marry but, with extenuating circumstances. Either way the drama intensifies with their marriage. What I particularly love about this book is Matteo's point of view and some of his background is shared along with Marie's. I like the balance that it gives after the first book that is all favored towards Marie.

This second book builds up the daily life and adjustment within their marriage and Matteo's family business and how it affects and relates to Marie. She has some troubles but, then so does Matteo. Feelings grow and become more evident which, makes them both on edge and this has the potential for danger. Their dynamic is interesting and the story is still addictive. Anticipating the next book and hoping for the happily ever after Marie and Matteo deserve.

When Maria's mother died, she should have felt a sense of freedom, but she couldn't. Her memories of the hateful woman who raised her and the abuse she suffered from her own mother's mouth, don't just disappear. At least she has her new love, Matteo, to lean on with his understanding and kindness. Shortly after her mother's funeral, Matteo becomes a different person, telling her that they have to talk, and leaves. He's back in New York, where he takes his orders from his aunt Celeste, the head of the Alfonsi mob. She wants him to collect on a debt once owed by Ruby Hebert. Now that she's deceased, it goes to her daughter, Maria Hebert, the girl that Matteo wined and dined in Louisiana. She is the daughter of Celeste's Alfonsi's dead, cheating husband and his girlfriend, Ruby. There is hatred in her heart and Celeste is willing to go as far as necessary in order to get her revenge. Matteo starts to have doubts, once he gets to know Maria, and doesn't think she deserves to be held accountable for the sins of her birth. He proposes that they get married since, with the protection of Matteo and his name by marriage, Maria would be freed from her mother's debt. Maria hates that Matteo lied to her, lead her on and never meant anything he said, but going through with the marriage is the only way out of her debt. She gives in with an understanding that they can divorce sometime in the future. Life doesn't always work out as you think it will and both she and Matteo find themselves falling in love. He can't admit to being in love because, in his mind, it shows weakness and a Mafia King can't be weak. Marie isn't ready to admit it, at first, until she realizes the depth of her feelings. They live for their time together and, as the wife of an important mafioso, Marie gets to see the world and the joys of a life without piles of bills. The dark side of life catches up to them when Marie is ambushed in her car. When she wakes up in the hospital, Matteo vows to keep her safe, even if he has to stay by her side indefinitely. If it's the last thing he does, he's going to find and eliminate whoever is responsible for this. Perfect spot for a cliffhanger!

Marie’s mother is dead and now she feels free, but she didn’t expect to feel lonely. The only person she wants to be around his Matteo but can he be trusted? Matteo is hiding something from Marie, what will happen when she discovers the truth? Fast-paced read with loads of drama, suspense and steam. Great characters and intense chemistry. I liked it.

The second book in the Mafia's Obsession series, Mafia's Fake Bride is a well written, action-packed, emotional romance story that captivates you from start to finish. There is plenty of drama, unexpected twists, off-the-charts chemistry, danger, and love to keep you turning the pages.

Worse than the first book

Is Matteo a Mafia King? No. His “mother” Celeste runs it. He’s to inherit so he’s second in command. And is he Italian? Really? Why is his second in command Russian? Anton is not a name an Italian Capo or consigliere would have. Marie’s thoughts make no sense. How she conducts business is weird. Why would a Mafia princess/queen go on the street to hail a cab? Should be a car with a driver/bodyguard. Rewrite series.

When I receive an ARC of a book, I want to like it. If not, I wouldn't request it in the first place. Unfortunately, I found this book boring. The characters of Matteo and Marie were flat and I never felt connected to either of them. I had to force myself to finish reading because I found myself impatient for something, anything, to happen. It was slow-moving and lackluster.

As an author, Summer Cooper is capable of making her readers feel emotions. She creates memorable characters who are relatable and, usually, likable. Although they may engage in behaviors we don’t like, we eventually understand their motivations. I never did understand why Marie chose to stay and take care of her abusive mother when she was all set to leave for college. And I also didn’t understand why Marie felt Matteo tricked her into marrying him and thought that meant he didn’t care about her. He didn’t create the circumstance and he suggested marriage as a way to rescue her, but it was because he cared about her. For her to be angry and feel he tricked her into marriage was unreasonable.

The plot is slow-paced and predictable and ends with a cliffhanger. Sadly, I didn’t feel anything for Marie or Matteo so I don’t care enough to find out what happens to them next. I’m hopeful that Summer Cooper’s next series will be of the same caliber as some of her previous books (Billionaire Matchmaker series, Housekeeping series, Next Door series).

Prior to reading this, I was provided with a free look at the prequel, Mafia’s Obsession. I don't know if it is #1 in the series because that seems to have "Dirty Secret" added to the name (although the cover is virtually the same). Therefore, I will not add my review to Mafia's Dirty Secret, but will include it here instead:

Mafia's Obsession (#1)
2 stars
This is brief, and little more than an introduction to the characters in the sequel: Mafia’s Fake Bride. Ruby is a two dimensional monster with no redeeming qualities. Marie is an abused child who, when provided with an escape, instead chose to stay and care for her abusive mother. Matteo is a former abused child being groomed to take over mafia operations. The only character who garnered my sympathy was Matteo. I could not relate to Marie at all, could not understand her choices, and although I felt some sympathy for her, my strongest feeling was disbelief. I know it’s hard for people to leave abusive relationships, but the biggest impediment is usually fear. Marie had an escape plan in place and chose to stay when her mother no longer held any power over her. Supposedly, she felt guilty for any “bad” thoughts about her mother, but that held religious connotations and it was explained that she was not religious. On top of that, Ruby continued to be an absolute ghoul. It just wasn’t believable. I couldn't get past the fact that Marie had an escape plan in place, then decided to give up her dreams to care for a mother who insulted her and told her to leave. I hope the next book adds something to the characters because, at this point, they seem more like stereotypes than real, complex people.

I have all ideas Auntie Celeste planned the shooting so we shall see :) and then what Matteo does to handle the matter...

This contemporary dark mafia romance is page-turning with exceptional world-building that is deep underground and engulfed by darkness, danger, violence, and grit, and characters that are a brooding, alpha male/bad boy who is obsessive, intriguing, and realistic. Their journey is dark and enthralling with the mafia's fake bride, the mafia's obsession, mature explicit romance that is consumed by steamy lust, passion, spice, and desire that has all the feelings, bride/wedding, drama, dead mother, needing comfort, deception, hatred and abuse, deceitful cheaters, lies, deception, heartfelt emotions, action, adventure, suspense, and more. I recommend reading this book by an extraordinary author who knows how to captivate her readers' hearts and attention with the mafia's fake bride and explicit romance that is sure to take readers on an exhilarating emotional roller coaster ride that is wild, and utterly unforgettable.

Matteo is being groomed to take over for his Aunt Celeste, but before she retires, she has to test him again and again. But he is now being sent to Louisiana to collect a debt that is owed to Celeste from her husband's mistress. When Matteo sees the situation, he starts to feel things that have been locked up for a long, long time. Can he walk away now? But when he meets Marie, he knows he has to protect her from everything including himself, if needed. Will Matteo be able to protect her?

Marie has had a rough life but is strangely optimistic about love and life in general. But when her mother finally passes, she feels relieved and feels like the weight has been lifted. But now Matteo is here to tell her about the debt that is to be paid by any means necessary. She can't afford her bills let alone this debt. But can marriage to Matteo really solve this issue? She will be a wife in name only, can she hide her feelings about Matteo from herself? What will Aunt Celeste say about this?

This book has so much drama, mystery, tragedy, love, lust, romance and so much more. But can they keep each other safe from the Family and others who want to harm the Family? Will they ever find happiness with each other? I can't wait for the next one in the series!!! I received an ARC of this book from the author.

I was wondering if we ever hear Matteo’s side in this story, just had to wait for the 2nd book. Marie’s mother has passed away and she should feel free – but is she really? Matteo comes back from New York with some news for Marie and turns out Matteo was playing her the whole time for his aunt, Celeste (the wife of Marie’s father). Celeste is out for revenge and plans on taking it from Marie since Ruby has passed away. Marie is hurt that Matteo used her but knows that his proposition is the only way to have any sort of freedom.

Matteo is in love with Marie (he cannot admit this to anyone as this is a sign of weakness) and believes that he can save her from his aunt if he marries her. He knows he has a lot to do to make it up to Marie for the lies he told and will help her adjust to life in the big city. Marie believes that she should be able to take over the family as she is the legal heir to the Alfonsi family but knows that she doesn’t have the know-how or knowledge.

When the mafia life catches up to Marie at a stoplight, will Matteo be able to figure out who is after his wife before it is too late, and they strike again? Is this the wake-up call Matteo needs to realize that everything he needs and wants is right in front of his face?

The story of Marie and Matteo continues from Mafia’s Dirty Secret. Matteo comes back and explains to Marie about the debt that her mother owes to her father’s estate. He also tells her about a deal that would benefit them both. Marie is very upset but comes to the conclusion that it’s her only way out of paying the money. Marie and Matteo get married and he takes care of her debts. They continue to live in the bayou where she is from while he opens up a business he has been planning on. Of course the holidays are upon them and he receives the summons to come back to New York for Christmas at his aunts. Marie did well with his cousin Trina at the dinner but his aunt is very nasty to Marie because she is the bastard child of his aunts husband. They leave the dinner and return to their penthouse to celebrate together. Matteo’s aunt came to visit one day when Matteo wasn’t home and they had heated words. One day Marie was on her way to met Trina for a spa day when she ran into trouble. Marie was shot and crashed her car and ended up in the hospital. Matteo was by her side so worried and he talked to Anton about who he thought was responsible and Anton promised to check it out. Matteo made a promise to himself that he would find the person responsible for the hit on Marie. Again what a place to end the book but there is one more book to this series.

Matteo is sent by the head of his Alfonsi Mafia family to Louisiana to get payment on an debt that’s almost 27 years overdue. Except the person who he is supposed to collect from dies shortly after he arrives so that leaves him to collect from the only living heir. Her beautiful, kindhearted daughter Marie.

Marie has lived a humiliating and tortured life because of her mother, Ruby. Ruby used to be a Hollywood starlet but then she got pregnant and became a bitter woman. Marie’s father died while her mother was pregnant so Marie never met him and Ruby made no bones about telling her how unwanted Marie was & how much she hated her. This went on for all of Marie’s life. Yet Marie was the only one there to help her mother & care for her when she became ill. The Town’s people shunned Ruby and Marie by proxy. Ruby chased away anyone who showed interest in Marie. Then Matteo came along.

The 2 main protagonists, Marie & Matteo are full of depth and passion. Their back stories are tragic and I feel that is what binds them together. They can relate due to their tragic upbringings though it was worlds apart. This is a great story with a fantastic storyline. I enjoyed this book very much.

Matteo returns to Louisiana and as promised, he tells Marie everything about her mother and the relationship she had with his uncle, Marie's father. Further, he tells her about his aunt her cruel plan and reveals what the family business is.

To save Marie, he offers to marry her and she reluctantly accepts.

They move to New York and begin their married Mafia life.
Marie tries to settle into a new place and social standing as best she can. Matteo's cousin Trina befriends her and offers her support she thought would never come from Matteo's family.

When an unexpected event occurs, Matteo knows he must take a stand to protect his wife and show everyone he is more than capable of taking his rightful place as king of the family.

I enjoyed this one, but wanted to know how it all ends, but this is the second book in the series and ends on another cliffhanger like book one.

And, like the first one, it has mystery but this has suspense and action along with the romance!

Waiting for the next book to find out what is going on with Marie! 🤔

This book should really be only be read after reading the first book, Mafia’s Dirty Secret. These are not standalone books. Marie and Matteo’s story began in Mafia’s Dirty Secret and continues in this book, which does end in a cliffhanger.
This book started out a bit slow for me. Even after getting married, Marie and Matteo are still on shaky ground. They each experienced tough or horrible childhoods, and their pasts continue to impact their lives and their relationship. They’re both unsure and somewhat afraid of expressing how they truly feel, but the connection between them is obvious and real.

Once they get to NY, things start to ramp up and this book became like an obsession for me! Marie gets to meet Celeste. Yep, things get real interesting! There’s some twists I didn’t see coming but left me kind of reeling. And then that cliffy that I mentioned. Now I can’t wait for the next book!

This is the second book in the Mafia Obsession trilogy and it does not disappoint. When Matteo comes back to Louisiana he tells Marie the truth as to why he is there. There is a debt owed by her mother, that his boss is requiring get paid. Matteo believes the only way out of it for Marie is to marry him. She is devastated that he lied to her. It takes her a while to get over this and realize that her mother is still haunting her from the grave by taking away her future and freedom. She finally accepts and goes ahead with the wedding. Moving to New York was the biggest change for her. She also doesn't know what Matteo's true feelings are. When catastrophe hits, how will Matteo react. This is a good second book with lots of action and really good characters. Looking forward to seeing what happens next.

Diving into the Mafia Lifestyle - "Mafia's Fake Bride" - Book 2

Celeste, a vindictive Mafia Queen, is on the hunt to destroy Ruby who was the mistress to Celeste's dead husband years ago. Ruby is seriously ill & her daughter, Marie has been taking care of her until her death. Marie now has a huge debt including a 27-yr old debt owed to Celeste. Matteo's order is to woe her, collect this debt & destroy her. Marie is given an option to marry him & in return he would pay her debt & protect her from Celeste. They get married & enjoy wedded bliss, unaware of an undercurrent of enemies wanting Marie dead in order to get to Matteo. The story ends in a surprising cliffhanger! Too many questions are brought up in this novel, requiring one to read Book 3 to find out if Matteo & Marie get a HEA or not. I'm anxious to reading the next book to get my answers.

I volunteered to read this ARC & leave an honest review.

This is the second book in this series and it's a continuation of the first book. This book gives us the background on Matteo that was lacking in the first book. It is centered around Matteo and Marie's relationship as they move forward together. There is a little action and violence in this story, less than the "usual" mafia story. A lot of mafia books have a darkness to them, but this one does not. There is family turmoil, this time from Matteo's family. Not much humor and a couple of steamymscenes. Some parts of the story seemed to drag on for me and I didn't have that excited anticipation to find out what would happen next that I like in my books. The story ends with a mild wondering of a what will happen to them, I didn't find it to be much of a "cliffhanger" ending just a to be continued ending.

Emotional.
After the way the last book finished I was dreading what was going to happen when Matteo got back but it was worse than I expected. I hated him for the way he behaved towards her because of the reason why & he'd hurt Marie when he left but when she found out the truth of who he was & why they met, I wanted to kill him.
Marie had no choice but to accept his offer otherwise life would be over for her she had no way out of the hole that her mother had left her in.
She'd grown a lot during their time together & became a bit stronger even standing up to Celeste even but just as I thought they might be getting a bit of happiness Matteo's whole world came crashing down when Marie was shot.
I'm desperately waiting for the next book to find out if my suspicions are true as to who is behind the attack & make her pay.

I read the first book of the series and felt it was a bit off. Honestly I wasn't sure if I should read this one, but this was much better.

I think the series would be much better if it was just two books than three as the first book could've been broken down to just be a few chapters to start the story and how Marie and Matteo got there.

It is called Fake Marriage, but as you read through it is clear that it is not fake, especially since they are legally married.

Marie's life completely changed, which then cause Matteo's to change as well. They both went from darkness into each other's arms, but as things seem to settle and improve, bad things start to show up. The steps in this book become more drawing to the reader.

The ending was a bit surprising but just right for me to know that I'm excited for book 3!.

Mafia's Fake Bride is book 2 of Mafia's Obsession this book is the continuation of Marie and Matteo's story. After reading Mafia's Dirty Secret, I became thrilled that their story would continue on in a second book. Yet again, I thought author Summer Cooper did another outstanding job with Mafia's Fake Bride and how she continued the story of Marie and Matteo. I found this book to be both suspenseful and a page-turner, I also thought this book has wonderful characters. Not only do I love the characters, but I'm loving the plot for this book. Even though this book is left at a cliffhanger, I'm super excited to read the third book Mafia's Final Play. I'm hoping the final book will have a happy ending for Marie and Matteo, but there is only one way to find out and that is to read the book. I'm also going to be looking forward to reading different books that are written by Summer Cooper.

This is the second book in the Mafia's Obsession Series. Marie and Matteo's story continues. Her mother has died and she is finally free from all the mental abuse from her mother Ruby. She is starved for love as her childhood was void of love, support or comfort. Matteo finally confesses the truth about him and the danger. To protect her they have a fake marriage and move to New York. Their attraction is still growing but they both have a lots of emotional scars from their childhood. Plenty of drama and family interference. This is an emotional book that ends with a cliffhanger but there is only one more book and the series is complete. Well written and hard to put down. The characters really grab your heart and the story is a page-turner. I read an arc copy via Bad Boy Update and voluntarily chose to review this book.

This is the second book in the Mafia’s obsession series by Summer Cooper and I absolutely loved it.
I cannot get enough of Marie and Matteo. They are so perfect together and their chemistry is off the charts. In this book we find out the truth about Matteo and as a result Marie and Matteo marry but only to pay off a debt from Marie’s mum. The love between them is undeniable even though either is yet to admit to the truth. This book has a lot happening and a cliffhanger that has left me screaming because I now have to wait for the next book. Another great read from Summer Cooper who is a new author to me but she is an amazing author with a wonderful story to tell.
Highly recommend this series if you want a great story with lots happening.

This is the second installment of Matteo and Marie's story, and things are getting dicey - for Maria.

Her mother has passed, so she is free... Right? Not so much. Seems Matteo's family holds a grudge, and since her mother is longer available to be the source of revenge, it now falls to Marie.

Matteo's motives are revealed, but he may be the only one able to keep her safe. That isn't working well, as Maria is attacked and wakes in the hospital. Matteo means to find out who is behind the attack and eliminate them... Cue book three!

Lots of angsty feels going on in this book. We're getting to know both characters better, and what they are willing to do to stay together... Will they succeed?

Great series so far!.

Ms. Summer Cooper is an amazing Author that sets the bar high for other Author's. Mafia's Obsession Series is a riveting new Series that will have you biting your nails and awaiting their much deserved happily ever after.

Celeste is definitely not happy with her Nephew, Matteo, and she is more than happy to let him know. Find out what happens when Matteo stands up for his wife, Marie, and relative's be damed. This is the second installment to the Series and definitely well worth your time.

I was beyond fortunate to have requested an advanced reader's copy of Mafia's Fake Bride in exchange for my honest and voluntarily given opinion. I have and will always recommend this incredible Author and all that she releases.

Matteo final reveals all to Marie. Included is also his plan to save her from his mother Celeste. Within a matter of a few months, Marie’s small world is changed into a grand mafia world. More money than she can imagine, time on her hands to do whatever she wants, parties and family. The adjustment at times are hard but she stays strong. But there are secrets that she is keeping from Matteo.

It’s good to see Marie grow into the woman she should have been all along. I enjoyed how she stands up for herself. It’s the small steps that matter the most. It’s good to also see the storyline from Matteo’s perspective. You almost can’t blame him for who he is. Looking forward to their next chapter.

Marie thought after her mother died, she would finally have the freedom to do what she wanted. However, that isn't how it goes for her. When Mateo returns to town, he tells her something that hurt her, but she is stronger than she had been before and can deal with the pain. Mateo wasn't supposed to develop feelings for her, but he couldn't stop himself. His aunt is out for blood and the only way he thinks he can keep Marie safe is for them to marry. Will she marry him? Can he really keep her safe?

This is a great story that once I started it I couldn't put it down. This is a well written and very entertaining story. Its a book that any book lover would enjoy.
