Trapped in a vintage fantasy reality, he’s a sickly dark elf too weak to lift a weapon. Can he win a brutal battle before he’s lethally logged out?
Temor has been an underdog all his lowly life. Obsessed with old-school gaming, he risks his neck to mine virtual currency for the mob. But after he’s arrested and awakens inside a simulated online arena… he’ll have to fight to the death or watch his sister perish.
Assigned a weakling build in a combat-heavy world with no respawns, Temor relies on his outlandish plans and magical stats to outwit his burly enemies. But with self-aware NPCs, faceless killers, and perilous dungeons standing between him and his sibling, the nerdy smart-aleck plunges headlong toward a permanent game over.
Can the scrappy gamer out-class his foes before his health hits zero?
ForeverQuest: Online Battle Arena is the page-turning first story in the ForeverQuest LitRPG series. If you like everyman heroes, laugh-out-loud humor, and gripping role-playing adventures, then you’ll love Alex Maven’s nostalgic quest.

Thanks to Alex Maven and Voracious Readers for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. Unfortunately I did not make it further than 10% before realising this book is not for me. I couldn't see myself concentrating on Temor's journey throughout the game at the pace that was presented.
"Foreverquest" is a LitRPG novel about Temor, that is all the guys name is. Set in some future world where criminals are forced to fight in an online battle arena apparently for the entertainment of law abiding citizens. EnterTemor has committed some crime and is being forced to fight. His sister, who appears to be innocent, is also forced into the arena to make Temor fight. Fairly standard plot to be honest. However, Alex Maven throws in a few little twists. First twist: for some reason, the MC, a vicious clown named Rook, hates him and pops up occasionally to derail his success. Second: in most games, you choose your character. Well, Temor is forced to play the weakest most illogical character race/class combo. Third and final: the game is tampered with further by Rook so that when you die in-game, you are done. Game over. Through luck and a little ingenuity, Temor survives. He does have several brushes with death, though. Rook, the vicious clown, has some twisted plan to destroy the game 2orld and everybody in it. Temor ends up in a party that eventually defeats her. I will tell you here, there are so many reasons for me to hate this book. There are so many technical issues with the writing... In the beginning, Temor is cuffed to some device during the introduction of the game. He finds a hairpin in his pocket which he wants to use as a locking. But he pulls a paperclip out; then Rook mentions the hairpin, but he uses the paperclip to pick the lock... Often this kind of lack of detail will cause me to put a book down. There are numerous grammatical and editorial errors, my pet peeve! While this book is billed as a LitRPG, it does not FEEL like one to me. Yes they frequently talk about the game and how best to defeat it. And Temor mentions leveling up and uses the interface occasionally. But where is the distribution of points when he does level up? Where is the detailed discussion of the characters thought process for that distribution? Like, I said, there are many reasons for me to hate this book... but I cannot! Alex Maven tells a humorous story of family, friends, perserverance. At first, you want to hate the main character, but once you figure out his motives, you start rooting for him. This story is a fun, humorous romp through the gaming world. I do recommend this book, even with its issues. I would, however, wait for it to come out in paperback. I was given a free copy of this book for an honest review. See my blog at Clay's Reading Room

A computer gamer recovers consciousness on a crowded stage to find he has been uploaded into a fantasy role-playing game where the object is to survive a battle to the death. One life, no re-spawns or save points. What’s worse, he has been given the lowest rated and most hated character to play as, and somewhere in this game is his young sister.
From the references to movies and books I took the world they inhabit to be a futuristic Earth, or at least a parallel version with similar tastes but for a society with the ability to upload people's consciousnesses into a game they sure can't code a decent RPG.
Have to be honest, it was the action that kept me going as Temor went from one only just escapable situation to another. I found him to be annoying and barely competent and felt more sympathy for his oft-killed skeletal familiar and by the end of the book I had far too many unanswered questions, and probably not much chance of having any of them answered.
At first I found the sentence structure to be jerky and repetitious, but it improved as the book progressed. The small number of like-sounding typos such as who's/whose, to/too, peek/peak, your/you're spoiled it a little as well.
I settled for 3 1/2 stars rounded up to 4 but I still have the following questions.
Temor wakes in a digital world in which he must fight to survive. Except the hostess of the game, Rook, is dead set against him succeeding. Temor's given the worst character class and a familiar who mocks his every move. Going on quests alone is not a good idea, especially with a mafia boss after him too. Yet Temor is driven with the need to save his little sister, and he will stop at nothing to do what he needs to do.
This is an incredibly fun and fast-paced LitRPG that had me on the edge of my seat with all the action. We're thrown right into the online world, discovering it's a popular game which puts convicts into the system whether they want to be there or not. If you die in game, you die in real life, or, if your body is already dead, your consciousness dies. So Temor is fighting not only for his own survival, but that of his sister who was hooked into the game by the devious and insane murdering starlet, Rook. Temor was difficult to like, but he started to grow on me. As did his skeleton familiar, Knuckles. The banter between the two of them is hilarious! The team Temor joins is fabulous. I particularly like Parker and Turtles. It's like an old role-playing game with goblins and gnolls and off-the-wall plans. I'll definitely pick up the next one in the series.
I have read a lot of LitRPG the last couple of years. Some of it was really good. Most of THIS was not that good. I gave it 3 stars, which is actually remarkably generous.
There were a LOT of problems here. You start off in the middle of a game, but the wheres and whys and the rules and the motivations of many of the characters are not clear or do not make sense. There are some "Wizard of Oz" kinds of moments when the MC is dealing with people from his real life. But we are not sure why.
There are VERY few characters in this that you actually care about. Most of them are too annoying or stupid to continue living. Almost every character is inconsistent in personality and actions. There is a lot of just "jerk behavior," much of it from the MC.
There are some elements of humor, which is almost always a good thing. But there is not enough of this to compensate for the negatives. If you like LitRPG, I am not sure you will like this. If you DON'T like LitRPG, you almost certainly will not like it. I do not expect to go any further with this series. It appears that it is part of a series, but it is not entirely clear. For me, this one was more than enough.

Good idea and motivation of the protagonist. Rough introduction for a reader not familiar with the world. Sometimes the type of introduction "very interesting but nothing is clear" is good, but this is not what I saw in this book. Classic primary problem, interesting first steps. With the appearance of a familiar, everything goes... runs to hell. Too distracting, too intrusive and annoying. I like it when an "npc" or a familiar has a personality, but that's overkill.
This book is one of the genres that I really like. The author's style reminds me of bare stones mixed with solid moss. Sometimes just bare facts are stated, and sometimes there are continuous descriptions, there is no competent balance.
I did not finish the book, I dropped it between the third and a half. Therefore, I do not exclude that at some point it really becomes interesting, but I did not have enough fuse to read up to that moment.
If you've read a good litrpg, you won't like this book. She's one level down.

A fun book! It's like Everquest and The Hunger Games got together and had a baby.
This book is filled with fun little nuggets to discover. I really enjoyed all the real world references, when the main character, Temor, goes from the actual real world into an mmorpg.
As a real life fan of the game Everquest myself, I totally related to every struggle and triumph of Temor in the world of Lorrath. Out of mana? Pet have a mind of its own? Being encumbered? Freakin' faction???
Fast paced. Easy read. I read this in one sitting. It really isn't trying to be anything more than it is. A few grammar and spelling mistakes in my copy but to me that seems to fit right in. This book doesn't try to be heavy, or take itself too seriously. Its a fun night in an online world without the bother of logging in and loading!
I received this book from voracious readers only and the author.
This book was a fun read! It reminded me of when I used to play World of Warcraft. The reason that this is not rated any higher is because I wasn’t a big fan of the romance or the pop culture references that seem to come out of nowhere and weren’t really relevant to the story. They really took you right out of the story. I enjoyed the short chapters because they oddly made it easier to read more without realizing I had. But I also found the audiobook on Scribd and I really enjoyed listening to this. The narrator (Chris Frost) did an amazing job bringing the characters and the story to life.
I was given a free copy of this book and I decided to give it an honest review. This is a LitRPG novel. The story hooked me right away. One of the aspects of the book I really appreciated was that the author did not constantly interrupt the flow of the story with game mechanics. There was excellent pacing, the story never got bogged down. I would have liked more depth concerning the characters and the world outside the game. Things are mentioned in passing but there are very few details. We hear a lot of Temor's inner thoughts and motivations, but there are no real conversations to give the reader an idea as to what motivates many of the other characters.
Adventure story that feels repetitive at times. There was too much reliance on blind luck by the heroes. They also made lots of secret plans for no real reasons. This story could easily lose 10% of its words and gain a star or two with a good editor.
Speaking of editing, at various times in the story it seems as though "autocorrect" was applied to sections of the story without anyone verifying what was changed. The words were real words but didn't always make sense in context. One obvious example was when flair was used instead of flare; fashion instead of something to light an area. Sometimes you couldn't be sure what the original word was meant to be but what you read probably wasn't it.
This book was an adventure filled fun time. I loved how the characters were realistic with both good and bad personality traits. This made it easier to relate to them and root for their success.
There was one issue. Every time the author wanted to write "too," he wrote it as "to." If you can ignore this grammatical issue, and if you like Dungeons and Dragons and World of Warcraft fantasy mixed with Hunger Games style elimination game mechanics, this book is for you.
I received this book for free and I am voluntarily writing this review.
~Thanks to Voracious Readers and Alex Maven for the ARC in exchange for an honest review~
(This is my first written Review so sorry if I stuff this up)
I tried to read the whole book so that my review could be truly honest BUT I couldn't get past 20%. I was looking for the thing that would draw me into the story so much that I couldn't put it down, sadly even knuckles couldn't do this. Aside from some slightly awkward sentence structures the repetition was a little too much for me. I can see where this story was headed and it could be a great story if there was more backstory of the people who make up the reasons for why Temor does what he does.
Alex Maven took your standard, stuck in a gameworld LitRPG type story, and did a decent job of making it something different. This game world is where criminals end up and our "hero" Temor can't help but piss off anyone who has any control over his new "life". Die in the game and you're dead because your body is already worm food. Temor doesn't stand a chance. The book could use a bit of TLC editing, but it was readable and I enjoyed it and won't mind reading book 2 when it comes out.
Received this from Voracious Readers Only, in exchange for an honest review. I was a little lost as I don’t play RPG and some of the terminology befuddled me, but there was plenty of action, a fun mixture of mythical creatures, and technology, and magic. All in all an enjoyable read, I was hoping for a little more history of the main character and the dystopian world he was living in, but the story went quickly into the action .
This book was different. Temor is not a hero and pretty much everyone dislikes him. He is fighting for his life in a game he's forced to be in. He is given the worst class you could have to start. Temor has to fight for his life and try to help save his sister. I love knuckles his a pain to Temor and its so funny. This book is definitely a great adventure. So much action and drama. It was a really great read i throughly enjoyed it.
Even if you are not a gamer, this book is easy to read and entertaining. I do not understand gaming and have never gamed in my life, but the author did a wonderful job in describing the gaming world in ways that are fun and keeps the story moving. And since I am not a gamer, I may have missed some nuances, but I still thought the book was worth the read. Adding in enjoyable characters, conflict, quests, and movie references made the book even more interesting.
I have found a new favorite author! Mind blowing immersion into the world of RPG. Imagine all the challenges that would face you to actually live in a RPG. Trials of not only strength and intellect but loyalties as well. Pop culture references peppered throughout add humor and enable the reader to feel connected to characters and their plight. A hard to put down enthralling read!
I am reading this book and my husband keeps interrupting me. I am ready to lock myself in the spare bedroom and ignore him for a day. That means this is a good book. The premise is fun, the main character and his summon is great, and I am invested in the story.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
While I enjoyed this book, it feels a little bit chaotic, like here's the start of a plot point but then you go ooh look another shiny plot point and head for that instead. That being said, I did need to find out what happen to the main characters and I'm looking forward to seeing how it progresses after this book.
I received a free copy from the author through Voracious Readers only.
I have never read a book like this and it took me a bit to get into it, but only because it was a new genre. Once I got started it was a great book and kept me entertained throughout. I would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in trying out this new genre.
This was a very good read once I received it I was able to read it from the very beginning to the very end and thougt everything about this book including the Character built and Story line was brilliantly done with the reader getting the chance to read in my opinon. I receieved this book for free thru an Advanced Review Copy, ARC, with an honest review freely given.
I loved the unusual angle of this book, the writing was excellent with a good fast paced story. A real laugh out loud story with the stand out character for me the Skelton summons.
Talk about a corny story. I almost gave up reading this book several times. But, I kept thinking it would get better. If you want a book to fill the time waiting in your dentist's office, you found it. I do NOT recommend this book.
The book kept me reading it, but I also occasionally found myself skipping pages. The mc's summoner was beyond annoying. The story involves a "team" win scenario, but no one wants to be a team player. Ymmv
