"My 9-year-old really loves these books. He loves playing Minecraft and these books have characters you can relate to, lots of adventure, and a good reading level for my book lover."
"An absolutely wonderful book. We both enjoyed this story at bedtime. Can't wait to start the second book tomorrow night!"
This bundle contains The Legend of Dave the Villager books 1–5.
Took us almost a year to finish up this book collection but we did it! Not my usual read but I really enjoyed how it ignited literary excitement in my 6 year old as we read aloud it together. I was not so excited to have book 5 end with a "...to be continued." Not sure I can handle another 10 months haha.
I only found joy in reading this because of how happy it made my son, and he enjoyed my Porkins accent. The lack of editing was very disappointing, though. Many misspellings and missing punctuation, especially quotation marks.
Dave the Villager is a great book, with adventures and a lot of comedy and jokes. It also has interesting concepts for Minecraft lore, and also expands the lore even further. My favorite part is how they make sieges work, because walls don't just repel mobs entirely like in real Minecraft, the zombies can break through depending on how tough the wall is, while also having to deal with archers on top of walls, and iron golems. I also love the adventure, as they put in the concept of having to struggle to survive. When sleeping for the night, you don't just put down a bed and call it a day, you have to craft a house to protect you from mobs attacking. Also some mobs are smarter than others, for example, mobs in large communities of mobs are more intelligent, but ones that wander out in the outskirts don't have any thinking capacity at all. The book would be a great read for kids into Minecraft.
Read this with my 8 year-old son who is obsessed with Minecraft! We got about halfway before he was bored of it and didn't want to read it anymore. The overall premise of the books is that Dave (a villager) wants to be a hero like Steve. He forms a band of misfits with a Piglin and Creeper as they go on an epic adventure to defeat the Ender Dragon. That part of the books my son loved. Where he lost interest was much of the dialogue. It's not good. These books are not well written. As a parent, I was concerned with how frequently the characters called each other "dumb", or "idiot", or overall were just mean to each other. My son clocked those moments as well and said he didn't like how they treated each other even though they were supposed to be friends on an adventure together. It's hard to find good books based on video games, so I was pretty hopeful about this one. I think it could have been better with a good Editor.
The Dave the villager are really good books that everyone that loves Minecraft should read. Usually the Minecraft books have main characters like Steve. But this time, it’s about a villager named Dave. I love this series because it’s funny, a great book for kids, and I love Minecraft so that’s another reason why I like it. BUT and this is a big but, the book dose have a lot of sarcasm and words like shut up in it. I mostly love this book because I love reading. I hope you like it too!
This is a terrific box set that kicks starts the Dave the Villager series. Based in the Minecraft world/s, Dave is tired of being a villager who has no adventures. All his village wants to do is worship Steve and live a boring life. Dave decides to take a chance and make his own adventures, leaving the safety of his village via a hidden portal, to attempt to slay the Ender Dragon. He'll pick up some worthy friends along the way as they escape the Nether, get trapped in a snow biome, lost in the middle of the ocean, face pirates and battle zombie pigmen. Let's not forget the evil villain Herobrine, intent on capturing Dave, snapping at their heels. Even worse, he gets stuck with the most annoying person in the world: Steve!
These books are heaps of fun - my 6 year old picked this when we were looking for a new audio book to try. He loved all of them and asks to listen to them frequently. I'd strongly recommend picking up the Audible version because the narrator is fabulous - really versatile and has brought the characters to life for us. I'm a Minecraft noob and have been learning a lot along the way about something my child loves so this has been great for both of us. We'll be grabbing the next box set for sure - these are wonderful.
HOW DID YOU GET THIS BOOK OUT SO QUICK ALSO, IT COSTS LESS THAN HALF OF WHAT IT WOULD COST TO BY THE BOOKS INDIVIDUALLY Woah I don't have a caps lock. anyway, this book is amazing. normally I wouldn't review a boxed set but this one is an exception. firstly; (i know that I didn't use the semicolon correctly) it has ridiculously could illustrations. also, it only costs $5! buying the books individually costs $11! combined with the fact that it has pictures, this might be the new deal of the century!
Q&A do you play Among Us? (if you don't then you definitely should)
are you likely to do a collaboration with Dr. block any time soon?
are you likely to do a collaboration with Dr. block?
if you do a collaboration with Dr. block, you should do a book totally unrelated to dave the villager or any dr. block series.
~DontTakeMyDirt (P.S. great pictures) (P.P.S. if someone called Alphawolf100 reviews on the same amazon account as me then it's my sibling)
Notice: The following review was written entirely (with only minor editing by me) by my 9-year-old daughter:
I love this book series, but it gets a little dramatic, so just a little warning. The characters can also be funny, amusing, and surprisingly deep.
I love the characters in this book and their personality, ESPECIALLY Porkins. Carl is a little quiet, but he starts getting used to Dave and Porkins throughout the series. Especially when Porkins almost turns into a zombie.
It's a very detailed and creative series. it's just so much fun to read! Dave the Villager is definitely kid approved, especially if your kid likes Minecraft.
It is a good book and stuffed with changes!!!! I love it because it makes a lot of sense and it will make your day!!!!! I really enjoyed this and I recommend this book.
