Agent Under Fire: A Murder and a Manifesto

Rate this book
“Former ICE Special Agent Victor Avila’s story of survival and courage is a harrowing must read. His dedication to obtaining justice for his partner, Jaime Zapata, who was murdered just inches away while on assignment in Mexico, is honorable and a reflection of his character. The government coverup of what happened and their retaliation against him for telling the truth is unforgivable. You won’t be able to put this book down.” -Katie Pavlich, Townhall Editor, Fox News contributor and Best-selling author Agent Under A Murder and a Manifesto is a true story of unprecedented corruption, international intrigue, human trafficking, money laundering, drug-running, mass murders, and government evasion. Chalk full of page-turning stories and revelatory insights into Mexico’s criminal underworld, this book moves beyond the everyday true crime memoir and delves into the larger question of what it means for a family man to put his life on the line every day to topple some of the cruelest criminal organizations known to mankind. The book also serves as a manifesto, exploring solutions to misguided immigration policies and offering a unique perspective on what it will take to control our southern border and protect vulnerable American families.

This book has two parts, the first part deals with the author and the aftermath of the fatal attack he was involved in. The second part involves the author's thoughts on immigration into the U.S. The book needs another professional edit. Learned about the author from the Fox News Channel.

Let the truth be known

Victor Avila is a writer of integrity...
He speaks the truth from his heart
He cares enough about his country to speak out....to tell the truths politicians and the media would rather hide.
A great memoir laden with much to consider

The nightly news broadcasts videos of shadowy figures pouring illegally and unchecked over the southern border and disappearing into our country. Fuzzy photos reveal cartel drug smugglers and human traffickers eluding Border Patrol. Safe in our cozy homes, these stories sound like Hollywood thrillers that we quickly forget with the next beer commercial.

In this true crime page-turner, former Special Agent Victor Avila rips you out of your safe space for a horrifying and sobering look at who and what is coming across our borders and threatening anyone who gets in the way.

While on assignment in Mexico, Agent Avila’s armored vehicle was ambushed on Hwy 57 by the Zetas Cartel. Relive with him in vivid detail the attack that murdered his partner and left him fighting for his life. Learn in gut-wrenching detail what happens to those who cross the cartels.

Since his retirement, former Agent Avila has stayed close to the action on the border. Working tirelessly with federal and state agencies along with local law enforcement and elected officials, he advocates for solutions to keep Americans safe. Read the truth of what’s coming here and how we must all work together to stop it.

I’ve seen Victor on tv talking about the crisis on the border. I wanted to read his book because his discussions have been so compelling. His story is simply unbelievable. I can not even imagine the horror he witnessed and as he said the survivor’s remorse he feels because his partner died. He is a hero and extremely brave but the US abandoned Victor and his family after what he went through. Little to no financial aid when he was severely wounded. He was essentially demoted only because he survived and they knew that they sent him and Jaime into danger knowing that road was dangerous. His discussion in Part 2 about the danger of the border and the cartels in Mexico is chilling. I hope all Americans read this book.

Written with passion and honesty about a subject that he has experienced. He has the knowledge to lead the way for government reforms that will help with the safety and lives of both agents and people wanting to come into our country, as well as being passionate about keeping our people safe. Well written!

Every American should read !!!!

I liked the part where he was finally recognized by the powers that be for his heroism in the line of Duty and refused to leave
Leave Zapata behind!!!!!
Hated that he was basically hung out to dry by the agent who insisted they go into harms way and was no where to be found afterward!!!!!!!!!!!!!! God Bless these men!!!!!!!!!!!

It was good until you get to part two

I was enjoying this book. And then part two came, it was full of politics and suggestions on how to fix issues. It would have been better if he stuck with the biography. It destroyed the whole flow of the book.

Border crisis

With the Biden administration, our country is in danger from coast to coast. Remove the blinders of elected officials and those that are in place as Official administrative of DHS should be removed.

A very exciting and chilling narrative and an easy read in one night if you have adequate hydration and a dog curled up with you. If you need a nudge out of the self pity zone, this book will instantly cure that for you!

Quick, easy read that is a nail biter! Avila goes into riveting detail of his horrific day of being attacked by gang members and left for dead. Your adrenaline will surge because you get the sensation you are really there. Other than that, he is giving you his take on border patrol, what agents really fight and real boots on the ground issues. He also takes you into his personal life and how he was abandoned by the agency that sent him into harms way. It's a short book, but effective and he also gives the readers places to go and fact check him. I'm passing this book on to a friend in law enforcement.

This is a must-read for anybody who is wanting to see change in our country today. As Avila points out, we can no longer rely solely on one or two sources for our news. We must do our due diligence. Avila is one of many sources that knows what he's talking about because he's been in the trenches of the fight. I trust people like him far more than some talking head on a screen.
