Kennedy Layne is a USA Today bestselling author. She draws inspiration for her romantic thrillers in part from her not-so-secret second life as a wife of a retired Marine Master Sergeant. He doubles as her critique partner, beta reader, and military consultant. Kennedy also has a deep love for cozy mysteries, thrillers, and basically any book that can keep her guessing until the very end. They live in the Midwest with their menagerie of pets. The loyal dogs and mischievous cats appreciate her writing days as much as she does, usually curled up in front of the fireplace.
Missing jack-o-lanterns, a witch, a familiar with an attitude and memory issues, and a witch in training who I think is scared of the supernatural, make for a great cozy mystery!!
It's laugh-out-loud funny!! I was doubled over laughing at one point. Leo (the cat familiar) is the best part of this story. The humor and banter are top-notch. I love how the author used mythology about how Jack O’Lanterns Originated from an Irish Myth (The Legend of 'Stingy Jack'). The story is good. At times, you know things, but I feel like it left me guessing enough to enjoy it throughout.
This was another fun filled book in a series with an eclectic group of characters. This is such a great cozy series with the best familiar cat dialogue I've read.
Pumpkin Blend (Paramour Bay Book #14) The Paramour Bay Series by Kennedy Layne proved to be full of fun cozy mysteries full of paranormal intrigue, and heartwarming charm. Set in the enchanting seaside town of Paramour Bay, the series follows Raven Marigold, who is a relatable and endearing character who discovers she’s a witch. From the very first book, I was drawn into a world filled with magical mishaps, quirky townsfolk, and a touch of humor that kept the tone light and engaging. Paramour Bay came alive with its quaint shops, mysterious coves, and a community that’s as eccentric as it is lovable. Ms. Layne’s writing style is approachable and immersive, making it so easy for me to lose myself in the pages (in a great way – NOT in a ‘I have no idea of what’s going on’ way 😊). Each book introduces a new mystery, often tied to the supernatural, and the twists are clever without being overly complex - perfect for fans of cozy mysteries. So, whether you’re a fan of paranormal tales, cozy mysteries, or simply looking for a feel-good series to curl up with, Paramour Bay is a magical escape that will leave you smiling. It’s a perfect brew of mystery, magic, and heart. Highly recommended for readers who enjoy a touch of whimsy with their whodunits. Let the Binge Begin. Happy Reading…
I would live to give more stars if I didn't have to skim every other page because it's just repeat information. Again if your jump into a series this late you deserve to not know things. Why punish us with the same info over and over again. It's like getting half a book. With that being said. The fabulous "detectives " have to solve the mystery of who stole the town's prized jack o lantern and additional pumpkins from a local pumpkin patch. As always the culprit ends up being supernatural and Raven and Leo bicker back and forth through the mystery. The cemetery scene is spooktacular. Ms. Layne really makes you want to live in Paramore Bay and be Raven and Heidi's 3rd musketeer! I am waiting on Liam to propose soon. I do wish he had bigger roles in these books.
Someone is stealing pumpkins in this zany mystery from Kennedy Lane. All Hallows' Eve is only a fortnight away, and the residents of Paramour Bay can't wait to get their hands on all the candy corn, caramel apples, and pumpkin tea blends this fall season. As a matter of fact, the highly anticipated Halloween Festival is about to kick off in town square with the reveal of the largest pumpkin that has ever been grown in their very own local pumpkin patch. There's only one itsy-bitsy problem--someone has stolen the town's prized jack-o-lantern! Raven ropes Leo into solving another mystery, but he goes all in when he realizes that a pilfered pumpkin is the least of their worries! I borrowed this book from Kindle Unlimited. This in no way affects my opinion of this book which I read and reviewed voluntarily.
This was a quick, enjoyable read for the spooky holiday season. Parts were actually eerily scary. The humor interjected by the character of the cat were funny. That being said I did have trouble with how the dialogue was written pertaining to the cat. The dialogue was written in regular prose however the prose for the cat was written with italics and not enclosed in quotations. This made dialogue from multiple characters appear to run together making it difficult at times to know who said what.
One thought is that this would make a fun movie or digital series. Know anyone with Disney?!
I wanted to read this as a part of my "seasonal vibes" reading.
However, I ended up DNFing this one.
Now, I would like to say that this was really a personal tastes thing, and not an objective problem with the book. The book seems well-written, and there are no serious issues with it.
The problem that I had is that the cat talks a lot (which is one thing that I thought I would enjoy about the book), but I found that I didn't really like the cat's character. I wasn't able to get past that.
I still recommend that you give it a try, though, especially if you like talking cats and cozy mysteries!
Raven Marigold along with her familiar cat Leo and best friend Heidi have another mystery to solve. The giant pumpkin for the Paramour Bay Halloween Festival has disappeared. They are determined to find it. Raven's boyfriend town sheriff Liam is on the case but when he suspects supernatural shenanigans are involved he knows to trust Raven to know what to do. This was a fun read following the investigation. The ending was quite a surprise. I can't wait to see what's up next for Raven and her friends in the next book, Christmas Blend.
It's nearing All Hallows Eve and pumpkins start going missing, Raven, Heidi and Leo think it's the work of the supernatural, but who?
Return to Paramour Bay with its human and supernatural residents, complete with a very witty familiar, Leo.
Easy to read cozy mysteries, clean language and good fun. Best read in order to ensure the storyline is complete, although each story stands alone and is complete.
I read this as a one off (free from Bookbub) as it is close to Halloween and I quite enjoyed it. Raven and Heidi team up with Leo and Liam to find the missing giant pumpkin reserved for the town's celebration and gradually work their way through all the suspects in town to find out who and why. It's nothing to do with squirrels that's as much as I will say. An easy going read with no violence and some gentle humour quite a pleasant read.
A silly bit of twittering really. Clean in language etc, but a very lighthearted almost paranormal read, I say almost because, only one thing happened, ok maybe two if coldness and fog and dark clouds can be counted, otherwise it was just all talk, a lot of it done by a very silly self centered cat that is only worth skipping over. I got it for free, it’s not worth spending money on.
Read this for Halloween, even though it took me into November to finish. It just didn't keep my attention and took longer to read than I expected. It was a cute, but bland mystery. There were also times when I was confused when the cat (Leo) could read her (Raven) mind, since we were in her mind for the whole story. It also got a bit annoying when we were reading Raven's thought and then Leo would comment on it.

Another satisfying episode in Paramour Bay! Beetle and Regina are out of town. The town's "great pumpkin" type festival is delayed or rather, extended due to theft of the 183 lb jack-o-lantern. Its up to Raven, Leo and associates to find the reason for the theft, location of the pumpkin and identity of the thief. This is one of my favorite series!
Raven has problems with her familiar, Leo a cat who is a hypochondriac. This All Hallows Eve the big problem is a huge carved pumpkin has disappeared.... Poof! Raven, Leo, And friends set out to recover the pumpkin and solve the mystery of how it disappeared.
I didn't realize I was coming in in the middle when I got this free book. This is book 14 in a series, so I obviously had some catching up to do. That being said, I enjoyed the characters and especially the cat. This book also featured my favorite typo/autocorrect/editing mistake ever.
This is the first book I've read in this series, and it was very enjoyable. I like holiday themed cozies at this time of year. Leo was my absolute favorite! I'm sure my cats would applaud his good taste in catnip treats. I plan to read other books by Layne, including this series.
This book was cute with a new witch, her familiar, a cat, and a small town. The murder was proven by her and we got to “meet” many of the town’s locals. There are a nay some, a rather small amount, of the supernatural in a town of mostly normal humans. The humans, with the exception of a couple, are unaware of the “others”. All this makes for a fun read.
I’m giving up at 47%. I have tried to stay with it, as the characters are not bad but the plot is ridiculously slow. I still know no more than pumpkins are disappearing, there may be a supernatural cause and Leo thinks it is to do with the squirrel apocalypse. There is no excitement, no hook to keep me reading, as I find that I really don’t care who is behind the thefts. 1 star
It was okay. The author uses words/phrases that she thinks she knows, but doesn’t. For example: instead of a different tack, she wrote “a different tact”; when she was describing a top she wrote “purple cowlick sweater” instead of purple cowl neck sweater. There were others, too. A competent editor would really be to the author’s benefit.
Another great installment to the Paramour Bay series. Raven and the gang are out to solve the mystery of who has stolen the town's prized jack-o-latern. Loved seeing a little more of Ivan in this one. You can always count on great fun and mystery with Ms. Laynes books.
I really enjoyed this one. I liked hearing bits of pumpkin and jack o lantern folklore. I did not figure out what was going on. It was a good mystery. I am not too sure about the town’s newest resident though.
This is the first book I read in this series, I loved this book. It is a mystery and I enjoyed it completely. I will be reading this series with a lot of tea. Happy Halloween 🎃
I liked the characters, the town and witches and all. I would recommend to my friends as we like usually the same books. The rating was because it entertained me.
What a fun Halloween story. There were a couple of things that may have been better for me had I started the series at the beginning. However, that did not ruin the story for me. This seems like a fun series and I will check out the other stories.
I have to say Leo stole the show. He was so cute and made me laugh several times. I can't wait to read more about him and of course Raven. A must read for the Halloween season.
Raven, Heidi, and Leo (the familiar) are investigating the missing pumpkins. Kennedy Layne takes the reader on an intriguing journey to find out who stole the pumpkins. I hope you enjoy this book as misc as I did. Happy reading! 😊
This is the first book that I’ve read from this author and in the series. I was able to get familiar with the characters and it made me want to go back to read more of the series.
I thought this would be a fun read, but it didn't hold my attention. Pumpkins are disappearing. In a place where supernatural beings live, you'd expect some action. But we have a junkie cat and her owner and they talk more about Leo's catnip treats than the case.
I love reading Mr Leo's thoughts, they bring a lot of humor to the mystery. What is happening to the pumpkins near Halloween? They seem to be disappearing and Raven is sure there is a supernatural reason.
