The week of the culinary conference was Xander Northcott’s time to shine. Fresh out of a long-term relationship, he cemented his newly single status by accepting Piper Andrews’s invitation back to her room that first night. It was all fun and games until a few months later, when he received a phone call from the woman he barely knew.
She was pregnant—with his child.
Heralded as a culinary savant, Angel Saint Rose studied alongside the world’s best Chocolatiers. It wasn’t just a job for her. When honing her skills with chocolate confections, she was in her element—until she received a phone call that changed her life.
And killed her passion.
When Xander and Angel’s roads converge, can they call on each other to help find their way back?
So, Loving MAN. Lets talk about it. I really straddled the fence with this book. It started out pretty good but then, somewhere along the way, it ventured off into boredom. The storyline was too inconsistent for me. I say that to mean, it was only good in certain parts. I felt like the relationship between Angel and Xander was forced. It didn't seem like he was even thinking about Angel romantically until Everette said something. Then, all of a sudden, Xander wants Angel to be his girl?!!! It just seemed like everyone was trying to push them together instead of their relationship happening organically. But, I will say, as their relationship progressed, I begin to like Angel and Xander more and more as a couple. Their chemistry, vibe, and connection finally started to click for me. I love that BG was a young Granny who was a sexologist and, since Angel was a virgin, this came in super handy for her. I do wonder if we're going to get a book on Leonna and Israel so we can get the tea on their secret past. I need to know what went down between the two of them. The narrators did a great job but, I have to say, Eboni Flowers really irked my last nerve constantly mispronouncing the word christening. She kept pronouncing the T when the T is silent. Everyone knows this or at least they should! How does something like that not get corrected in post production?!!! Sigh........ Overall, Loving MAN was a sweet angst free charming story that teetered on boring. But, I loved the conversations about food, the realness of all the characters, the uplifting of black owned businesses, and the representation of strong black love. This was my first book by Bailey West and, while I wouldn't say I was necessarily wowed or impressed, I would still read more from her.
Dreams deferred! Currently Xander is more into running restaurants, than creating awesome meals in them and he really misses being the head chef. His dream to have his own restaurant seems to be over when Piper, his baby mama, dies leaving him to raise his 2 day old son.
Angel's grief over the death of her beloved grandfather, defers her dream to be a chocolate pastry chef, because her Papa taught her how to bake. And her broken heart just won't allow her to bake without him by her side.
When a plane ride brings Xander and Angel together, guess who shows up to the interview to be Little Man's nanny.
I was looking for a something a little “sugar and spice and everything nice” to cleanse my palate after reading some toxic content. This seemed as it would fit the bill. No disappointment here, it delivered everything I was hoping for. Xander, after breaking up with his longtime girlfriend had a one nighter that resulted in an oops baby. A few days after the birth of his son, tragedy strikes and Xander finds himself a single parent. On the flight home with a somewhat cranky baby, Angel steps in to help Xander out with his newborn, Maximus. After Xander and Angel part ways, he can’t help but think about her. Angel had a passion for the culinary arts but after losing her grandfather, Angel just can’t step back into the kitchen again. She decides on a career change and time to heal. In Xander’s search for a nanny, the two cross paths again and from there the embark on a HEA.
I found this book through a bookstagram recommendation that described it as a soothing, fluffy, relaxing read about Xander, a single father (with a newborn), and his nanny, former culinary savant chocolatier, Angel. Even when the recommendation described the out of the box premise of said single father having a girlfriend that was neither the newborn’s mother NOR the nanny (I promise this part isn’t messy), I was still intrigued even though I worried about a potential love triangle. I worried needlessly!
Yes, there is a borderline problematic situation early on with the Xander and his toxic girlfriend which I found incredibly unattractive because it’s almost like he’s too comfortable and lazy in a toxic relationship that his friends and family don’t respect and nor does he and that whole angle to me just seemed like he didn’t respect himself or his toxic girlfriend enough to sort the situation out. In fairness, there is no cheating in this at all, so if that’s a hard pass, fear not. But I could not really find Xander appealing as a character despite all his redeeming qualities because of that.
Something that I think was done really well here was the approach to writing a virgin heroine and the initiation of a sexual relationship. Angel may have been saving herself but she educated herself about her sexuality and was in control of it and wasn’t going to be convinced by society of relationships to do anything she wasn’t ready to do, and once she was ready, she prepared in a super responsible way. I think this part of the book was written amazingly well, as were all the parts that celebrated friendship and family, grief and loss and ambition. There is a little bit of classism around being “the nanny” but even though I side-eyed, I recognize this is eminently real and true to live.
I highly recommend this if you are looking for a fluffy light and absolutely delightful easy-reading romance featuring a successful single father chef, a gorgeous nanny, the most adorable baby, a hilarious cast of family and friends, and the yummiest food and sweet treats you can imagine.
My first book by this author. Seems to be a new writer based on her writing style but wasn’t bad. I like the character development and the backstory between the lovers was okay. It just sometimes felt forced. Not overly passionate. I did find myself looking to see how much longer it was. So just okay for me.
A story with a baby is a great possibility I will love the story, with a 99.9 % probability. The story was a fun, meaningful, and pleasant experience. A beautiful love story about a father having to parent his baby boy, and then he rejoiced at the chance to be a wonderful father. The icing was he met his perfect match in an unlikely manner. That point made this love story eclipse my already high expectations for this couple. A baby in the mix is always a special treat. You will love this story.
From the opening chapter, Xander and his bundle of joy captured my heart. And when Angel was added to the mix, I was a goner for this heartwarming story!
This was my first time reading Bailey West’s work and I enjoyed the experience. Loving MAN was a warm and fuzzy read with a little steam and a little chuch tossed in. I purposefully left out the "r" because there IS a difference😉. Somebody knows what I’m talking about!
Xander was a dream and Angel was...well, an angel. They meet on a plane ride. New born Maximus was being fussy and Angel offers to help soothe him. Xander, a new and single father, welcomes her help. Angel works her magic on Maximus and he calms down for the remainder of the trip. When they land, they part ways only to meet again when Angel shows up to interview for the position of Maximus’ nanny. What a surprise! It was just as cute as it sounds.
I really loved that Angel was more than just the nanny. Meeting Xander and becoming the caregiver to his child wasn’t a grand opportunity that changed Angel’s way of living or social status. Instead, she and Xander built a friendship and inspired each other to pursue dreams they had pushed into the background of their lives.
Xander was a dream. Did I say that already? He was a put together and well off man AND he was humble. He appreciated who Angel was; recognized and revered her accomplishments; and made it known that she was a prize and he was blessed to have her in his life. What a man!
I loved BG. She was a bad ass. That was very clear although this was a shorter story.
Like I said, there was a little church going on; I could hear pastors of my past preaching in my head as I read the scene with Pastor Israel’s sermon. It was real, familiar and comforting. And there were plenty of other lines and scenes like that. I was so tickled when Angel’s friends asked if it was a "name brand soda kind of party" or a "Shasta or Stars and Stripes party”.
This story left a smile on my face so I will definitely be reading more of Bailey West’s work.
Xander and Angel were meant to be. A chance meeting, helping a stranger turned into a blessing for Xander after Man's mother had passed just days after he was born. Angel was a big help to new dad Xander on their plan trip home. Then the surprise of all surprises take place when Angel turns out to be one of the nannies Xander interviews for Man. Angel needed a change to help ease the pain and heartache of losing her grand-papa, hence the job of being a nanny. Xander and Angel truly had so much in common. Their skills as Chefs, their love for Man, the belief and support for each other's dreams, and their attraction is special and heartwarming. They are surrounded by wonderful family and friends. Most important in this story for me was Xander's priority to put his son first and making sure he was well cared for and loved. And the added blessing was finding a woman (Angel) who shared these same feelings of love for his son. Beautiful couple, beautiful story!!
Alexander Northcutt was in over his head with a new baby, but Angelica Saint Rose swooped in to help. Now that they’ve formalized their working relationship, can they find their way into a more intimate one?
I don’t know what made me pickup this book, but I couldn’t really put it down. The characters were great and the drama was just right. Should Bailey West decide to make a series with the other characters, I’d be happy to return.
There’s a minor formatting issue with how the chapters are broken up toward the back end of the book, but it doesn’t take away from anything and I’m sure it had something to do with the conversion.
I recommend this one to those whole like the “hot boss and the nanny” stories. I get it; I liked Angel’s relationship with the son just as much I liked hers with the father.
Such a fan! Your stories give us spirituality, a tiny bit of drama and a lot of love! Xander and Angel were destined to be together. From their initial meeting, they both were smitten and left wanting to know more. Their journey to love was beautiful. Loved the relationships they both had with their friends, and family. What is up with Leona and Pastor Isreal? Hope Tati gets her own story. She was hysterical. Good read! 👍👍👍
This was such a beautifully written novel. Angel was just what Xander needed as he was exactly what she needed. It was such a beautiful love story that gave you a chance to know the characters. Now BG!! She's the truth!! I was waiting to see what kind of advice she was going to put out!! I was ready to take notes!!!
Truly a sweet engaging and thoughtful story. It has a bit of inspiration, a bit of curiosity and a little heat. You will love the characters. They have good sense! They make decisive moves and stand firm in their beliefs. I am looking for a story on BG and someone to do my own dreds. I bet she has a story to tell! I want to be just like her when I grow up! LOL This book is a good read! It's the perfect distraction and motivation I didn't know I needed. You know how you might be "stuck" on something; a project, a situation, a anything and you need to step away from it to regroup. This it that book. I do believe you will enjoy it, I certainly did!
This story was just wonderful. I hope it's the beginning of something wonderful. I appreciated the characters and the character development. She introduced us to a unique cast of characters who were strong and confident. I wanted a BG right away, and appreciated how she raised her granddaughter to be strong and confident.
Bailey West creates good characters and she keeps getting better. I love the town, and if this is the beginning of a series, please count me in. I look forward to more. Bravo!
This! I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I almost skipped it for whatever reason, but I’m so glad that I read it. I love when the characters are mature and the author doesn’t try to make their issues too tragic or drawn out. A beautiful and sweet read! Highly recommend :)
I liked this a lot. It was my second book by the author (the first was Inn Love, third in a multi-author series). This story was sweet and I definitely see clues that it could be a series or have a spin-off with other characters, specifically Leona and Pastor Israel.....
I liked this book, it intrigued me and at the same time it confused me a bit. I enjoyed reading it, but at the same time wondering. As I live in the Netherlands, the concept of African American people having their own language and society was greatly unknown, one saw that on tv. Reading about it is quite different and understanding it a bit. This was the first book I read by this author, and at first I was more intrigued, but at the end it was a bit forced and petered out, came close to boring. When I came about this book, I thought: wonderful: a book about a chocolatier, I love chocolate, so why not. But as I read on, it was more like snip-snap happenings in the lives of Xander and Angel. The book begins with what happened to Xander Northcott’s one night stand at a culinary conference, she is pregnant and they decide to share their parentship. Then unfortunately she dies, he flies back home with a newborn child and doesn’t know how to soothe him. On the flight back home, he encounters Angel, who manages to soothe his baby and then she is gone again. Knowing full well that he cannot look after his son full time, he decided to hire a nanny, and surprise the Angel from the airplane applied to be his nanny and the love story begins to develop between them. But as Angel is not a qualified nanny, she is heralded as a culinary savant, Angel Saint Rose studied alongside the world’s best Chocolatiers. It wasn’t just a job for her. When honing her skills with chocolate confections, she was in her element—until she received a phone call that changed her life. And killed her passion. So can they find their combined passion, food, and can that bring out their passion for a happy-ever-after?
Let's just say I hesitate to give it <3 stars but it was just meh for me.
Xander is a new and single father due to the death of his newborn son's mother. Who happened to be a quick fling. So now he has to unexpectedly raise his son alone. He's on a plane trip from California to back home when hes having problems trying to control his son when he meets Angel.
Angel he is instantly attracted to. she's funny she's sweet, great with the baby and, of course, she's beautiful. And when he leaves the plane he can't stop thinking about her. When he gets home now he needs a nanny. Of course one of the candidates to be a nanny is Angel. he hires her instantly he instantly kind of falls in love with her the family loves her his friends love her but the problem is he is semi engaged to another woman. And of course, no one likes the current girlfriend.
I don't know for me angel is just too good to be real. by the way, she just happens to be a Virgin waiting for the perfect man, which is of course a Xander.
I mean her name says it all. And although I'm not that sympathetic to her character the ex girlfriend, and I forgot her name, is almost like the evil stepsister she is everything that Angel is not.
And I'm never very attracted to characters that are flawless or even perceived as perfect. There's no depth to them they just seem one dimensional she's beautiful she's a Virgin she doesnt just cook. She's gourmet chef, she has money tucked away that no one knew about, she's just like the perfect woman and it comes off as kind of boring to me. You just never get a chance to doubt that there will be a happily ever after. And that's not a book that I really get that interested in.
It's not a badly written book. Just boring to me. Like low steaks love.
Loving Man by Bailey West is about restaurant manager Xander Northcott and chef turned nanny Angel Saint Rose. Like the best chocolate this is sweet! Angel is an angel, from her first encounter with Xander and baby Maximus she is the embodiment of love & light. Angel and Xander have an undeniable chemistry, the family unit they create is beautiful. Xander let’s no one get in between him, Maximus and his Angel not even his girlfriend (👀 oop who is not Max’s mother). Xander comes to the realization fairly early that not only does baby Max need Angel but so does he and he wants her for more than a nanny! I love that Xander and Angel really support each other’s dreams. Xander is a sweetheart 🥰😍🥰 it’s no wonder Angel fell for him. It’s great to see that although Angel is a virgin she doesn’t shy away from intimacy, she’s in full control of her own body and not naive. These two get hot & heavy, it’s some good stuff 🤤 I mean Angel is literally moved to tears 🥵 whew! Did I tell you how much I love this book? Well, I love this book and will be rereading! Their families and friends are a great supporting cast, the love and positivity is endless. P.s. I love stories with babies/children in them! P.s.s. I hope Xander’s twin sister Tatianna gets a story.
I really loved this story. I found myself laughing out loud a few times. Xander was a special man. He was loving, hard working, and loyal. An unexpected situation changed his life forever and caused him to cross paths with Angel. Angel had recently had a big loss in her life. She too was transitioning into new life. Angel was so dope to me. She was intelligent, fiercely talented, and confident. On top of that she was drop dead gorgeous. As their relationship blossomed around their sweet common thread little man I loved the way it unfolded. The supporting characters were amazing, they really showed the depth of Black relationships and I enjoyed every minute of it. I found myself highlighting a few gems, mainly around living out your dreams and realizing God will help you make them a reality. This was my first book from Ms. West I can't wait to read more from her.
Yes, there was a little drama but it was so perfectly placed. It wasn't overdramatic. Don't get me wrong, there are done corny moments, and some words that don't belong in certain situations but it doesn't distract you from thr main premise of the book. I appreciated how respectful they were off each other and their space. As time progressed, they evolved beautifully in the same wavelength. I love the very strong and protective love that Xander exudes for the people he loves, Especially, for his son.
This book was perfect for me because I'm not a heavy drama person and I just loved how real it was. I'm trying not too give spoilers but I need to know when Leona and israel get their own book.... Please keep me updated.
I loved the conversations of food, The realness of all of the due characters, The uplifting of black owned businesses, the representation of strong love and what it looks like. I loved it.
This was my very first title from Bailey West and man I couldn't have been more pleased. This story was really fun, filled with some much love yet emotional. ❤❤
Zander became a single father shortly after MAN was born, having no clue how to care for a new born especially flying across the country. When Angel offered to help calm the baby on the flight back home Zander happily accepted.
When Angel turned up at the nanny interviews, it was a no brainer to offer her the job. She must have been his lucky charm. It may have also been faith for them to both be chefs taking a break from the kitchen with similar dreams and passion.. Tho they were strangers the chemistry between the pair were that long time couple. The love & support system they had from their friends and family was everything. The supporting characters were hilarious too especially BG
This story is a reflection about the sweetest joy that God grants you in the middle of your storms. For Xander, it's during his time becoming a new single father and for Angel, during her grief over losing her granddad. Cultivating their time together and giving them the opportunity to heal, God allows them to find themselves, their happiness to themselves and to each other, and find love in the midst. Man is the catalyst that brings them together. Through these characters, God reminds us to keep feeding our dreams and goals and only to share with like minded people. I love the relationship between Xander and Angel and I love the supporting characters, except for Emmaline-- nobody likes her. Lol I enjoyed reading this book and looking forward to reading more about Sable Falls.
This is my first read by Queen Bailey, it was on my recommendation list and she did not disappoint. Xander was an amazing man, brother, friend, son but the sexy pine of them all was father. He and his son despite how things started, they had an amazing support system and God definitely sent an extra blessing when they met Angel💞. This book was full of things that brings my heart joy, family, friends, and the love of food🤗.
Eviline name the perfect name, she was beyond self centered, nobody else mattered in her eyes. I was so glad she talked herself out of the relationship .
Angel was just heaven sent. Her, Xander and MAN all came into each others lives and helped each other heal. Xander and Angel spoke life into each other, encouraged one another and loved like never before.
Sometimes you want intimacy to be slow, seductive, attentive, sexy, passionate and loving and then held in a warm and safe embrace afterwards, you know, a break from all that savagery of flesh pounding, hard thrusting and fukking of sorts😏
Well this book is that sweet, enduring, romantic and loving story that slow stroked me and held me in that warm embrace. It’s was that beautiful aftercare you get after a sexsession and like Stephanie Mills sings “I feel good all over” after reading this story.
The storyline and characters are just perfect. The bond, the spark, the connection - everything clicks flawlessly. Xander's maturity in handling his duties as a single father towards Man and Piper, with Angel right by his side supporting his every dream, loving Man as her own - it's a tender love story beautifully depicted by Bailey West that is a must read.
Okay, this book is going in my Top Five of 2023. Xander assumes the sole care of his son after the mother dies unexpectedly, and the angel who helps him cope on the flight becomes Angel, his new nanny.
This was so beautifully written, so carefully constructed, it took my breath away. I love the way she helped him on the plane, and something compelled them both to want to find each other. And then they did. Their care with each other, the entire book, was how love stories should be written. Xander realizing his feelings never went away, and making the decision for himself not to settle was great. Angel learning to love her talents again, working through mourning, and having Xander to share that with was so good. And the way she loved on that baby melted my heart. I thought it fumbled a tiny bit at the close with that argument right at the end, but it was still so wonderful.
The supporting cast was perfect; families make everything better and it takes a village.
