Hearts of Arizona #2

Copper for the Countess

Rate this book
A Victorian countess doesn't belong on a ranch, and a frosty cowboy knows nothing about raising a family. When the two have no choice but to rely on each other, is there any hope for happiness, let alone true love?

Lady Evelyn Lyon lost her husband and her fortune on the same day. Daughter in hand, she makes her way to the copper mines of Arizona, hoping her husband's stock in the Bisbee Copper Queen mine will make it possible for her to raise her little girl. Every man she's known has failed her, and she would far rather be alone than dependent on one. When the stock certificates in her possession prove fraudulent, Evelyn and her little girl are more alone than ever.

Chris Morgan, known as "Frosty" by cowhands and neighbors alike, never expected to have a family. When his cousin back east dies and leaves Chris with two children to raise, Chris has no choice but to change his plans. But raising children and running a ranch at the same time is a tall order. He's at his wit's end when he comes across a British noblewoman who has no business wandering around the desert without protection. When he learns her story, Chris knows they might be the solutions to each other's problems.

A hasty wedding and dusty ride to Chris's ranch starts their marriage of convenience off on a bumpy road. With children to raise and cattle to herd, Evelyn and Chris have no choice but to trust each other. But in the west, trust is hard won, and it's hard to grow anything...especially love.

Copper for the Countess is Book 2 in the Hearts of Arizona Series, but it can be enjoyed as a stand-alone romance.

If I tell you I loved this book, it wouldn’t be a strong enough description. SO GOOD. SO SO GOOD. Sally has woven the sweetest, most realistic love story and I adored every single second of reading it! This is one of the first times that I was not only intrigued by both characters within a handful of pages, but I already loved them! Every aspect of this book was so well done, from the history, love story, side characters, and plot. You won’t be disappointed by this one! 😍

Audibly high-pitched “Aww” swooning over this one. The countess and the cowboy, this was just so absolutely lovely. Everything I loved about the first book (fish out of water, class difference/culture clash, great historical details, wonderful narrator, sweet simmering slow burn) but then with only my favorite trope ever: strangers marriage of convenience. Add to that single guardian/widow and a stoic, every-word-counts hero, and I was like listening floating around in a romance reader joy haze. So nerding out over this series correlation with the coin symbols, I love it so much.

For me, this is how you do a kissing-only, clean, sweet, chaste, whatever you want to call it, marriage of convenience. All the tentantive awkwardness, the how-do-I-reveal-I-gots-the-feels, the how-do-I-court-my-wife, the undeniable attraction balanced with becoming a family unit and appreciating what the other brings to the table, that first “my wife” (in this case throw in that first “darlin’” too) great gestures and tension, but no consummation until the bond is strong and full declarations are laid out. Thank youu for this perfect trope execution, Ms. Britton! I’m such a fan.

Must mention, it also made me particularly happy how Evelyn’s journey and character were portrayed. She could’ve gone snooty, over the top fish-out-of-water antics, but, though not perfect (Laundry-1, Countess-zero)she was so resilient, strong yet vulnerable, and made it so easy to see why Chris is so locked-down taken by her. Adding to my blubbering was being able to see the continuation of the Rounsevell and Bolton HEAs and more of the new Mrs. King Bolton.

I just marvel at how I don’t have as many thoughts as my usual word dump reviews, because this book just makes me stare out into nothing with a silly, self-satisfied grin that weirds out my family. Seriously, this one is for whenever the mood points to a just straight-forward, swoony, low-angst sweet romance. Loved it so much *stares out in a happy daze*

If you want to weird out your family too, this audiobook is free on Youtube! (Saw recently they’re on Hoopla too)

Content notes: kissing only. Not so predominant, but some preocuppation with consummation. Not spelled out, but heroine has some trauma from previous marriages. Children grieving parent-loss. Brief mention of racial prejudice.

I have been so excited to enjoy this book since I first "met" Frosty in the first book of this series, The Silver Dollar Duke. When the author announced that the second book would be Frosty's story I may have squealed a little. Seriously, I love this series so much. This author has a beautiful way with words and characters and settings. I've enjoyed her Regency/Victorian books. And let me tell you, her Westerns are fabulous as well!!!

Lady Evelyn Lyon's story pulled on my heartstrings so much! The opening of the book was a tearjerker. I ached for her. The combination of the story and emotions itself combined with the narrator, Marian Hussey's talents, brought out the emotion.

Evelyn is a character that I just admired so much. Her fortitude and strength were astounding. She had a lot of loss and hard things happening, yet she wasn't giving up. She didn't always see her worth and strength and I loved how throughout this story she came to see it through the wonderful people who cared for her on the ranch. Especially Frosty.

This book is a marriage of convenience story. One of my favorite tropes! Especially when it is written by a well loved author. Evelyn has been married twice before. Not the best marriages. So when Frosty approaches her to marry him that he can help her and her daughter, she's not sure what to think. I just adored everything about these two characters. Watching them watch and see each others' goodness and respecting and admiring that characteristic was one aspect of why I loved this book.

There were so many little moments that built and ultimately helped Evelyn trust and care for Frosty. And the same for Frosty coming to trust and care for Evelyn. These two were just so adorable together. They had moments of insecurities and strife but I loved how they worked together to figure it all out.

The children in this story were so adorable. They tugged on my heartstrings as well. I loved the scenes with them in it as well as the scenes of Evelyn and Frosty interacting together with the children. *happy sigh*

Content: Clean. Some moments of mild peril. The two characters do marry and there are some conversations about marital intimacies but they were written very tastefully and not graphic. There are a few kisses and a fade to black scene at the very end.

I received a copy from the author. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.

Happy Reading!!!

Ahhh this book was so cute! I listened to the audiobook, and it was marvelous. The narrator was also so good, using different accents and tones for the different characters that was subtle enough to not be annoying.

Now to the plot!
Countess Eveline, widowed for a second time, finds herself penniless and stranded in Arizona territory with her little girl. There, she meets a kindly cowboy named Chris “Frosty” Morgan whose boss insists that Eveline return to the ranch with him, his wife, and Frosty.

There, Eveline discovers that everything she thought about the world may, in fact, be wrong. Kind people, hard—but satisfying—work, and a place where she’s seeing her little girl happy for the first time...is it all too good to be true?

This story man. I love a good marriage of convenience, and this one hit the nail on the head. Frosty is about the sweetest fictional man I’ve ever read. He’s gentle and so sweet to Evie, who has suffered horrible abuse by her first two husbands. He was probably my favorite part of this story. I also loved his relationship with the Bolton’s and the other ranglers. He’s a softy with his cousin’s kiddos too.

Everything about this story was beautiful and I think it’ll definitely be a comfort listen from now on!

Five out of five! ⭐️
15 & up!

I instantly loved every character in this book! They all had such an openness about them that drew me in. I’m impressed with Sally’s writing skills in giving you a grasp of one’s character with just one line or a small detail.

I loved everything about this novel and how it all came about. Chris is the perfect gentleman and just who Evelyn needed to be appreciated as a person rather than a trophy wife.

I’m very much looking forward to Ed’s story in the third book! This was a fabulous read and I enjoyed every second.

Sweet, very chill, story of an Englishwoman in a strange place (Victorian Arizona), with a sad predicament, helped out by a rough-around-the-edges cowboy with a heart of g... copper?

Sorry, couldn't resist (if you didn't get it, look at the title 😁).

May include some adorable kids, kittens, dogs, horses, and more. I mean, it is a sweet ranch, after all.

This is book #2 and I enjoyed the excitement of the beginning and middle immensely. Slowed about 3/4, but picked up at the end.

Super clean, romantic, sweet happenings on a bustling, 1895 Arizona ranch filled with believable characters during their slice-of-life days.

Free from profanity, spice, and any events that are too gritty.

Can be read stand alone but I definitely advise reading book #1 first because it continues in the storyline and builds on the characters from it. They all show up in this one too.

Fun!

1895 Arizona Territory

In this second of the series, Evelyn, a widowed countess, travels from England to Arizona to claim her holdings in a copper mine. Unfortunately, the claim isn't valid and she is left destitute with a daughter to care for.

Although predictable, it was a fun read. I look forward to the conclusion on the series.

You know what I love about books? They transport you. They take places you would never be able to go otherwise. They pull you through time and space. You go in the future, the past, on a ship, to a castle, back to high school, to a different state or country. They suck you in to the point that when you look up, you're surprised at your surroundings.
Like this book! I expect my husband to come rambling into the living room with spurs and a cowboy hat, not basketball shorts and a laptop. (I'm not disappointed. Just a little surprised haha) Made me fall in love with Arizona and the idea of the 19th century United States. I love that it was sort of Victorian but really not at all. I love how determined Evelyn was. I love how good and kind Chris was. Together, they are an unstoppable pair. I love how slow and steady the love was. I love how they treated the kids. Laura and Ben deserved so much more than the tragedy that befell them and Evelyn and Chris are incredible with them. Madeline growing into her self and her place was wonderful to read. So, if you like cowboys and romance and fish out of water love stories, you absolutely need to read this one.
Now excuse me while I go read the first one and you can read my list!
.
- Chris and Evelyn
- is this the same kind of buttermilk we have now? Because I think that's yucky.
- romance is starting!!
- I like how they care about education
- this is the sweetest! Their relationship is beautiful
- I really like Frosty. He's just so good.
- the hug was so sweet.
- this book makes me smile a lot
- darlin' 😍😍😍

Even more enjoyable than the first book thanks to the kids. Chris, the foreman for a cattle ranch, takes pity on a penniless countess and her young daughter down on their luck in a foreign country. He persuades his employer to offer the duo a safe haven while they contemplate their future. Chris himself has a lot of contemplation to do since he recently became the guardian of two young orphans. A marriage of convenience solves both their plights allowing them to join forces to provide love and care for the three children.

This instant family really moved me. The children were cute and winsome and I just want to root for them all. The language and setting appear quite authentic and Britton does a great job of creating very likeable characters with the story focusing on their combined efforts to make the arrangement work. This is a clean book.

January 2022 updated review:
I listened to the audiobook through Author's Direct. The narrator Marian Hussey is awesome. There were a lot of voices in the book--women, men and children plus British and American accents--and she was fantastic with all of them. It was so good to be able to read this story again.

October 2021 review:
I'm very familiar with Sally Britton's Regency romances; this is my first Western by her, and she's proving just as talented in this genre. This series is set in the Victorian era in Arizona territory, and her wonderful descriptions will easily transport you there.

Lady Evelyn Lyon's husband, the Earl of Tyneham, has died so she and her young daughter travel all the way from England to the Arizona territories to claim his shares in a copper mine. Sadly the manager informs her that the shares the Earl bought are fake and thus worthless. What is she going to do with no money and a young daughter to care for?

Chris "Frosty" Morgan suddenly became the guardian of his cousin's children when he and wife died. Being a bachelor, Frosty is struggling to take care of the children and continue doing his job as foreman of the BK ranch. While in town for supplies he meets Lady Evelyn when he drops a penny.

If you love a marriage of convenience story this is a great one! I loved how easily Evelyn helped out with the children--reading Treasure Island to them and doing the voices! All kids love when you do voices while reading. I loved how the other women on the ranch accepted Evelyn and were so willing to teach her new skills, and how patient they were while she learned them. All of that was so new to Evelyn and her bravery amazed me. I don't know if I'd have been able to go from a living a life of luxury to living on a ranch in the Arizona territories.

Evelyn discounted her strengths and I liked that the others were quick to point them out to her. We all need to be reminded of our strengths every now and then. I love stories of women with strong bonds of friendship. I liked watching things change between Evelyn and Frosty--each was a little unsure of the other. If you like "slow-burn" romances then you'll love this one.

This is part of the Hearts of Arizona series but if you haven't read Silver Dollar Duke yet don't worry, you won't be lost. I need to find time to read Silver Dollar Duke which is Evan and Dannie's story.

I had high expectations for this second book in the Hearts of Arizona series and I am happy to say that it far exceeded what I was anticipating. “Frosty” was such a tenderhearted man, not only for two unexpected children who were now in his care, but also for Lady Evelyn Lyon and her daughter, Madeline. This marriage of convenience ended up becoming much more than that as Frosty breaks down the walls Evelyn had built around her heart through his patience and loving kindness.

I have to hand it to Evelyn for all that she went through as she put aside her fears and wants and showed what a wonderful mother she was. She crossed an ocean and embraced a new life in order to provide for her Madeline and give help and attention those in need. She had great courage in the face of adversity that I greatly admired.

If you like western romance stories and strong protagonists who have grit, you will love Copper for the Countess. This can be read as a standalone, but the first book, Silver Dollar Duke, is so good that you will want to read it too.

Thank you to the author and publisher for a digital copy of the book. All opinions are my own. I was not required to write a positive review.

01.04.22 (Audiobook)

I just finished listening to the audiobook and loved it! Having read the book before listening to the audio version, I had some expectations of what Lady Evelyn Lyon would sound and act like. Ms. Hussey's portrayal of her was perfect! Her accent was fabulous and her sweet, caring nature was evident when she was talking to the children. Ms. Hussey's characterization of all of the people in the book was well done. Not only did she have to do men and women's voices, but also children's and a couple of British accents too!

The pacing was excellent. it was neither too fast nor too slow. I felt as though I was a part of the story. I highly recommend listening to this book. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did. I received a free review copy. All opinions are my own.

Loved this western romance! Sally Britton is proving to be a talented writer in any genre. I love her Regency romances and was excited to try this western romance set in Arizona in the Victorian era. This story does not disappoint.

Evelyn is a beautiful British Countess who travels to Arizona with her daughter after the death of her husband. She believes that the Earl left her shares in a copper mine. When the shares turn out to be fake, she doesn’t know what to do next until she spies a handsome cowboy who happens to drop a penny.

After the unexpected death of his good friends, Chris “Frosty” Morgan has just learned that he is now responsible for two young children. As a confirmed bachelor, he doesn’t have the slightest idea how to raise children. When a beautiful woman approaches him with his dropped penny, it might just be his lucky day.

I love a good marriage of convenience story and this was definitely an enjoyable book to curl up with on a cold October day. The characters were so likable. Chris was the ultimate swoon worthy cowboy with his gorgeous “frosty” blue eyes. But his personality definitely doesn’t fit his nickname. He is so kind, thoughtful, and patient not only with the children, but especially Evelyn. Evelyn was also an endearing character. Despite her painful past, she is willing to work hard and learn new things. She’s a loving mother not only to her own daughter, but to the other children as well. The supporting characters including the children are delightful too.

With a slow build romance, humor, and a little bit of mystery, this story was hard to put down. While this can definitely be read as a stand alone, it would be more enjoyable if you’ve read the first book in the series, Silver Dollar Duke, to really appreciate the reoccurring characters and storyline. Looking forward to the third book in the series. I received an advanced copy from the author. All opinions are my own and I was not required to provide a positive review.

It’s no secret I’m not a huge fan of westerns. However, after reading Copper for the Countess, I need to amend that statement because I am such a HUGE fan of this book. I was totally wow’d by it and it is by far the best western I’ve ever read.

Where are the westerns like this one? Sally has set the bar and I need more!!

Frosty gets all the stars, all the swoony awards and all the heart eye emojis. I read this one in one sitting because I was so into it. I literally loved every page! Get yourself this book and get reading! You can thank me later!!

This was an enjoyable Victorian romance meshed with the Wild West. I love the setting and how Sally Britton takes on the two cultures and two completely different upbringings and makes them one.
I would have enjoyed a little more depth the Frosty’s character but otherwise it was a nice story.

I'm a little torn on this one...there were some aspects I liked a lot and others I liked less. I had forgotten that it was second in a series (which absolutely explains the unnecessarily complicated backstories of so many of the secondary characters...not that they were unnecessary for the series, but it would have been weird in a standalone, which I had forgotten this wasn't. :P)

Pros--I liked the two main characters. They were both very sweet, and their relationship was as well. The children were cute, and pretty realistic! I enjoyed watching their relationships grow too. As much as I usually enjoy the desperation and forced quick decision making that usually goes along with the marriage of convenience trope, I did like the way that they had a little time to think and consider before taking the step. The side characters were also sweet, if they did sometimes overwhelm me. ;)

Cons--The story felt a bit slow at times. When it got to the wedding evening, I felt like we spent too much time in Evelyn's head, contemplating what was coming. It didn't cross any real lines in that regard, but I felt like I got a much clearer picture, especially of what her past marriages had been like, than I needed to. Also, some things about the historical "feel" just seemed slightly off? Not that I can point to specific details that were wrong, but...just nagging little attitudes that felt like they belonged more in the modern day than in the late Victorian period, even on the western frontier? It certainly wasn't one of the worst offenders in that regard, but I just somehow never lost the feeling that I was reading a modern historical fiction story, not a period piece. (I also read this just after a modern book that perfectly captured that period feel, which this book definitely wasn't trying to do, so part of this is probably me just coming back down to earth.) (: Oh, and after Evelyn got the school offer, I really didn't like the suggestion that she should just annul the marriage and move on, especially coming from someone who had acted as a mentor. That really rubbed me the wrong way.

Howdy Mrs. Britton!

(See what I did there? 😉) It seems appropriate that both of your books in the Hearts of Arizona series would deserve letters from me. Because they are both amazing! You craft characters I easily fall in love with. I have never loved animals or farming or heat or snakes and scorpions, but I want to move to KB Ranch and join the Bolton greater family. I want to be friends with Frosty and Evelyn, Duke and Dannie, Ruthie and Abram, King and Mrs. Bolton. I despise sweating, but I want to work alongside the women harvesting the garden (but not killing rattlers; I have no stomach for that), washing the laundry, and baking bread. You made this place and these people come alive to me. They are so real in my imaginings that I have half a mind to drive myself down to Arizona to go meet them and spend a week on the ranch.

Evelyn is an absolutely incredible character. She admired everyone else’s resilience without noticing her own, praised other’s selflessness but never applied the word to herself. But she also want self deprecating. I loved her straight away. Her character arc was so good. I loved watching how she decided what she wanted was worth fighting for, that she was a person of value and deserved to have dreams. Also, I just really love a character with green eyes. It makes me happy.

I absolutely loved Chris. First of all, I must tell you that I have a brother named Chris who is super tall, very quiet (but observant), and a total cowboy. He even married a rancher’s daughter! So your Chris took on the form of my Chris in my mind and it suited so well. So I suppose you could say that Chris became even more special to me (perhaps I will just be your Chris’s sister :D ). Your Chris is a great character. I love how genuine and kind he is. I even like his more quiet nature and his shyness around Evelyn.

The kids, Laura, Ben, and Madeline, are all so sweet! My momma heart just ached for every one of them (for different reasons) and I loved the extra dynamic they brought to the story.

This sweet, tender love story made my heart so happy. I enjoyed it immensely and look forward to Ed’s story in the future.

Thank you for the opportunity to read and love your book.
Much love,
Jessica

*Note: contains cruel marriage partners and unfair treatment of women (typical of the time period); cattle rustling; fighting; killing a snake

You know what they say, when it rains….it pours cowboys.

Ok that’s technically incorrect but the fact that I’ve read two cowboy romances in the last month when in the last 2 years prior I’ve read none. There must be something in the water.

Copper for the Countess is about a recently widowed woman who has sailed to America with her daughter and a American cowboy who has more recently has been put in charge of his deceased cousins children. Both are struggling, out of their element and in need of serious help.

*Cue the marriage of convenience bells

What I love about Sally’s books is that these sweet romances always feel authentic to the times. She creates slow burns that develop from tender friendships. Frosty is a serious man in need of a woman’s touch not only in his home but in his romantic life. Who doesn’t love a stern blue eyed cowboy? Evelyn has a tragic, abused past with her beauty used as a curse. She has a hard time trusting and is running out of options.

When these two come together they create this really heart warming symphony. I love marriage of convenience and this love story feels realistic and sweet in nature. There are themes of family, community and reaching out to help those in need.

Plus the mentions of Arizona and Oklahoma put a little bit of home in this story for me.

If you are a regency romance fan but would like to add a western twist to it…then I say pick this one up!

Frosty and his blue eyes 😍 Evie with her fiery hair and personality 😍 Marriage of convenience and found family 😍
🐎
The chemistry and getting to know one another and the one bed trope. It’s a clean sweet romance.
🐎
Frosty is a sworn bachelor until he is now raising 2 kids. In town he finds a stranded lady and takes her and her daughter back to the ranch. They set out to help each other by a marriage of convenience. But it’s dangerous in the Arizona desert and on a cattle ranch. It’s dangerous to open your heart at the possibility of getting hurt.

This was a fun continuation of this series. I enjoyed this sweet story. Evelyn was a very sweet kind woman. It was fun to read her story. Frosty is such an odd name for a strong tuff cowboy but his real name was even worse:} They seemed so opposite but worked so well together. Sally writes such a sweet romance that holds my attention:}

As much as I adore Sally Britton’s Regency stories, her Westerns have truly captured my heart! Copper for the Countess made me laugh and smile—I didn’t want it to end. I’ll be eagerly awaiting A Lady’s Heart of Gold, and I hope Sally considers writing more westerns. They’re not to be missed! 5/5 stars

This is book two in the Hearts of Arizona series, and can be read as a standalone but don’t miss the first book, Silver Dollar Duke. Both are set at the KB Ranch in 1895, both feature English nobility who find themselves in America and in need of assistance. This story revolves around ranch foreman Chris Morgan (aka Frosty) and Evelyn, a former countess. A marriage of convenience and some cute kids keep them together until their feelings develop into something more. Chris is a great hero throughout the book, he’s kind and thoughtful towards Evelyn and the children. Evelyn is a loving mother and is willing to work and try new things. There is some action and excitement when cattle thieves are suspected near the ranch and Chris is called away to deal with them. The story is well written and easy to read with a satisfying ending.

I received a complimentary ebook for review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

WHAT IT'S ABOUT
A hasty wedding and dusty ride to Chris's ranch starts their marriage of convenience off on a bumpy road. With children to raise and cattle to herd, Evelyn and Chris have no choice but to trust each other. But in the west, trust is hard won, and it's hard to grow anything...especially love.

MY TAKE
*sigh* I loved the first book in this series, Silver Dollar Duke, so I was excited to read this one. Calm my fluttering heart! Now I want to go back and read that first book just so I can see more of Frosty (Chris).

Chris is a wonderful man, with honor and sensitivity to others even if his gruff exterior has earned him the nickname Frosty. When he's left two children to raise from a dear friend, he doesn't shirk from the responsibility, even if he has no experience with kids.

Evelyn, the widow of an earl, is kicked out of her home by her stepson. The only thing she has to support herself and the daughter from her first marriage are the stock shares in a silver mine in Arizona. So she sells what little she owns and they make the journey, only to find disaster.

Chris, walking by her, inadvertently drops a penny. When she returns to him, he notices she's been crying. Being the AWESOME ... um, attentive man that he is, he can't just walk away. When he finds out the situation, he suggests him employer might have some suggestions. And that how Evelyn finds herself amongst the Boltons and their wonderful friends and employees who open their arms to help.

Chris's new charges hit it off with Evelyn's daughter. Over the following days, he finds how much Evelyn is helping bring his friend's children out of their shells. Which eventually gives him the idea to suggest a marriage of convenience. Both enter it with the hope that it could, someday, be more.

But Evelyn doesn't have a good history with men. Chris has his work cut out for him to learn to be not only a father and to win Evie's trust.

Totally swoonworthy!

Alright Sally Britton, let's talk about how FABULOUS Chris "Frosty" Morgan is! The bar has been raised for total gentleman and adorable hero. I seriously loved Frosty!
This was a really sweet marriage of convenience story, that's part western with a little dose of Victorian England come west. Evelyn is down on her luck when she meets Chris in town. Chris is extremely kind and selfless right from the start, literally unable to desert a lady in distress. When the two get to know each other more on the KB Ranch, Chris proposes marriage as a solution to both their struggles (only, Chris already had the seeds of love growing and it was adorable). His character really made this book for me and I could write out a list of his qualities, but instead, you should read the book to enjoy them yourself. :)
This is a clean read and well-written. The pacing was good with a few twists and turns throughout. I liked the secondary characters and the children really worked well for this specific plot.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

As I said in my review of the first book, this is not a series I would have picked up, except for an author I like recommending them.

This book was even better than the first one. It centered on the foreman of the ranch, Chris - or Frosty, as he is called. He turned out to be a great hero, and Evelyn a great heroine. The addition of the kids made the book all the more enjoyable.

After I finished it, I felt the book deserves the description " a fun read." For it was.

I was so excited for this book! Honestly, Sally is one of my favorite authors! I have so enjoyed all the books I have read of hers. After reading Silver Dollar Duke, the first in the Hearts of Arizona series, I was excited for this next one. I always enjoy series where the story continues with the same characters. Lady Evelyn Lyon has lost her husband, fortune and place in England. She hopes that in Arizona, her husband’s stock in Bisbee Copper Queen mine will make a way for her and her daughter to survive. After being failed by every man she has known, she would rather be alone than dependent. However, the fraudulent stock certificates leaves her more alone than ever. Christ Morgan, or Frosty as he is known by all, never expected a family. But when his cousin dies, leaving two children for him to raise, his plans change. When he comes upon an English woman alone, he is determined to help. Can their problems be solved together? Through a marriage of convenience, they may find their solution and possibly love…

This was super cute! First of all, I love stories with kids. I think that they give romances a new depth, with other relationships to build and connections to be had. The kids in this story make it so much sweeter, they are a key part of what brings Frosty and Evelyn together and I think it is adorable! It was so cute to read about how they became a family together.
I was so excited that this book was about Frosty! He seemed like such a nice character and I enjoyed learning more about him. He was so sweet! As you read about his adjustment to his new family, it  is incredibly touching to see how hard he is trying to help them. He has no idea how to help children, but is doing his best. Evelyn was such an admirable character too.  She had gone through a lot of tragedy and was determined to take care of herself and her daughter. Finding herself in the Arizona desert with few options was not part of her plan.I enjoyed watching her adjusting to the ranching life. It was definitely a fish-out-of-water story, with funny and tender moments coming from it. I loved how she connected to the ladies of the ranch.  She and Madeline, her daughter, really found a family there. It was also so adorable to see the continuation of the background stories at the ranch too!
Overall, this was a sweet western story in the series. Though it can be read as a stand-alone, it is so much better to read it as part of a series! It is clean, but has some mention of domestic abuse. I would probably recommend it to teens and up!

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion, I was not required to write a positive review.

“I have never met a man like you, Chris.”

What a heart warming tale!

I loved these kind characters. The kindness freely given and found family aspect to this story had my eyes filling with tears!

The audiobook was wonderful! The narrator made this story come alive. She did the voices and different accents beautifully. It was such a joy to listen to! I also alternated between the audiobook and ebook and I’m so glad I did because there is a beautiful illustration at the beginning of the book that I’m so glad I didn’t miss!

Oh I love Chris!!! What a sweetheart! What a gentle cowboy that’ll steal your heart. Evelyn is such a brave, determined and lovable character. I really admired her strength and kindness. These two make such a perfect pair and their slow burn romance sure was sweet!

I loved their story, and I also loved seeing where other beloved characters in this series are at in their own stories!

I had never read any of her books before, so this weekend I read the first book before reading this one. You don't have to do that, but I like to know more about the side characters, so I like to read in order. I have to say I loved this one more than the first. I received a complimentary copy to read and give an honest review. And I thought this one was so beautiful. I felt more connected to Evelyn and Frosty, and I thought their story was beautiful.

“She’s a lady. A literal, English-born-and-bred lady. With a title. She’s a countess. I’m a cowboy. And this—” He gestured with wide open arms. “This isn’t a castle, Abram.”

Frosty stole my heart in Silver Dollar Duke. Yes, he didn't have a major part in the first book. I guess there is just something about the strong silent type. Plus, he has these fierce blue eyes, and I've got a thing for those. (that's what attracted me to my husband first) so I knew I was going to love his story, and I was not wrong. The way he treats the kids and Evelyn just melted my heart. And Evelyn was such a loveable character, and you felt for her. Her determination and strength were wonderful.

I love the side characters and the roles they play in both books. I loved the kids and the emotions they brought into this story.

If you're looking for a clean historical romance where you get a mashup of Victorian meets Western, then this book is for you.

This series is getting even better! I loved learning more about Chris, aka Frosty. In this book we meet Evelyn and her daughter, who have come to Arizona from England, hoping to find that an investment made by Evelyn's late husband will be enough for them to live on. Enter Frosty and the rest of the KB Ranch gang. In the beginning of the story, Frosty has quite the life changing event before he even meets Evelyn. This is a fantastic love story, which also adds some adventure throughout. The children in this story were so sweet and I loved seeing how a new family was made. I also love the mentions of other authors like H.G. Wells and Louisa May Alcott. At the time this book would have taken place, these authors would have been newer, and it's neat to think of the characters reading their books.
