I picked up this novella as a quick read for Halloween and it did not disappoint. I need a DENARD! He was the soulful, artsy, intellectual type that would love to take you to a jazz club for some new-soul! Like a scene straight out of Love Jones. I loved that Denard wasn’t what Tyra was expecting and that it was a good thing. I think sometimes as humans we build up these expectations that our love interest has to look act and dress a certain type of way to the point that we end up missing out on people. This is a great example of what happens when you just give someone a chance. He was so kind and caring and passionate not only on their date but also in the bedroom. I loved it. The steamy scenes were HOT. I can’t wait to pick up the next one.
Tyra was ready to call it quits after her date with Denard did not go as planned. She was a fine dining and roses type of girl not a hay riding with bugs type.
Tyra was in literal countdown mode until she was back in her comfort zone when out of no where she went from running for the hills to bussin it wide open for a real 🥷.
Stranger things have happened on Halloween so when Denard told Tyra the reasons for her sudden change she knew it was all tricks when it came to Denard.
This was a very bland read. Aside from the sexual chemistry between the characters, the story was boring and didn’t provide any “spooky” or true Halloween elements. For this to have been such a short read, it wasn’t cohesive and was kinda all over the place. It was strange how the story progressed and I didn’t get why she took Star’s call when she did.
This was a very bizarre read that gave none of the Halloween elements that the cover implied.
Oh this one was scary for real. But not sexy scary, real life scary.
First date and he can’t be bothered to go pick up the condom from his wallet in the other room, and even though she’s not on birth control, she doesn’t care and asks him to finish inside because she tracks her ovulating cycle.
It was cool but you should definitely read the book/series this is a spin off of first. I didn’t have any attachment to the characters (hence what took so long to finish like 45 pages lol) and I was constantly wishing I had more context. Smut was A+ though so 🌚 also really intrigued by the female lead’s friend who is the lead in the series. Think I’ll mosey over to it later. 😎
Not bad, but kinda boring? Maybe I would've felt differently if I had read the longer book that this is a spinoff from. But if you're looking for a short and steamy read there you go.
I saw this book making the Goodreads rounds and thought ‘hey, it’s Halloween. Maybe this year I’ll try a Halloween themed book!’ Honestly didn’t know what I was getting myself into. Erotic fiction certainly isn’t what I normally read but it was really good!
I liked the fact that they didn’t have an instant attraction towards each other. There wasn’t too much relationship building (it IS only 30 pages) but you could feel the chemistry between the two main characters and that’s what it’s all about!
Side note: This ‘Halloween book’ isn’t actually that Halloween-esk. Which I didn’t mind!
Trick is a super short, Halloween novella that starts off with a date gone wrong, but ends up going so well after that!
Tyra’s best friend sets them up on a date, and things are not going well when Denard surprises her by taking her on a hay ride at a pumpkin patch. But just when they’re about to call it, they both end up itchy (thanks in part to all the hay, plus a love potion cologne 😆) and in need of a shower quickly…so they head to her place and hop in together.
This was just an easy novella to fly through (around 30 pages). I kind of liked how Denard is not Tyra’s type at all, but she’s also really pulled to him.
This one was like really short and to the point.. Tyra and Denard are set up on a date by a friend of there’s and few times their night was mishap she’s more fine dining he likes Halloween hay rides.. but they have a connection and itchy as heck lol.. it goes 0 to 100 pretty fast and that’s all really.
Sweet and short and straight to the point. This definitely did catch my interest and was indeed a spicy fall novella. Ate it up in less than an hour lol.
This was cute. Although it didn't give Halloween, I would read more about this couple.
Tyra was initially turned off by the choice of date, it just wasn't her speed. On top of that her date Denard, wasn't typically her type and he seemed to lack swag. She couldn't deny that he was fine AF though. He however wanted to impress her and got just a little bit of help to do just that, and it seemingly worked. Although Denard gave shy nerd, he was everything but in the bedroom.
If you were looking for Spooky Halloween elements like the cover, full stop you are getting none of that here.
A fun Halloween novelette that features a date gone perfectly wrong, but maybe perfectly right thanks to some meddling friends, a love potion, and allergies.
This is my first work by the author and I found the voice compelling and readable, and a lot of sexy fun. This is more of a happily for now, as the two love birds have some delightful shower sex to rinse off the hay dander and the love potion, and leave their date feeling optimistic for the future.
characters had great chemistry and it starts off at a hay ride! that's really the extent of the halloween festivities, but overall a really sweet read. i'd easily read more about these characters someday, but the length of this is perfect for a quick treat while watching movie or doing reading sprints. by farrr the best cover of all the kindle unlimited holiday novellas i've read this year!
3.5 stars Fun little erotica short, but had very little Halloween involved. They went on a hayride and that’s about it. And the rest is basically sex, which was to be expected.
Trick was a fun, steamy short story featuring a first date gone wrong, a love potion, and some very sexy scenes.
Tyra's first date with Denard isn't going exactly how she pictured it when an allergic reaction to the hayride they're on sends them both into Tyra's shower seeking refuge from the itching. Once there, their date takes a sexy turn and things are looking up.
Trick was a lot of fun and as the author notes before the story is more of an erotic short story than a romance. The story was incredibly steamy with multiple sex scenes despite how short it is. But as someone who enjoys their books to be more explicit than not, I was perfectly ok with this. The chemistry between Tyra and Denard is fantastic and I liked the build up to the scene in the shower. The love potion angle was a fun addition and I was happy with the way the story ended.
Overall Trick was a quick, steamy read and I would definitely recommend it if that's what you're in the mood for.
I had some fun reading this quick story. Tyra decided to do something different when she agreed to a date with Denard. The thing is, she wasn’t expecting the “different” he had in mind for their first date. Lol! If you don’t mind friends who refuse to mind their business, trashy first dates and a little help in the love department , you will LIVE reading this book. I will admit, Tyra got on my nerves something serious. I was like could she be more unappreciative? I was ready to snatch her up. However, when I figured out what was happening , I retracted my claws( a little LOL). Denard was everything to me. He didn’t let Tyra’s attitude phase him. He was patient, understand and an all round good guy with “aha” dick. You know, the one you would’ve missed out on if you didn’t take a chance? Yes, that dick. I enjoyed reading tricky story and I look forward to more from this couple. I want to see if things get more serious with them.
The forward says this doesn’t have character development and doesn’t follow a traditional narrative, I’d beg to differ. I liked the characters, I have a good understanding of who they are, and I loved the chemistry between them. Being able to do this in only a few pages is amazing to me. Most importantly I was promised Erotica and this delivered! Shae is definitely a fav.
I think this was about expectations. It was promoted as a smutty Halloween novella. And while it had spice, it was first and foremost a romantic short story that could’ve been set at any time of the year with how little it had to do with Halloween. The tiny hint at witchcraft felt a bit… squeezed in at the end. Writing is good though so if you’re looking for a cute, romantic novella with spice you might want to give it a go.
Novellas are like a quick snap shot of a moment. It was entertaining as we got to see a date. I liked it though it wasn’t the kind of Halloween story I was expecting but it had a witch, I guess. But it was more erotica than anything.
