When Virginia Heath was a little girl it took her ages to fall asleep, so she made up stories in her head to help pass the time while she was staring at the ceiling. As she got older, the stories became more complicated, sometimes taking weeks to get to the happy ending. Then one day, she decided to embrace the insomnia and start writing them down. Twenty books and two Romantic Novel of the Year Award nominations later, and it still takes her forever to fall asleep.

Series: The Talk of the Beau Monde #1
Publication Date: 2/1/21

This author perfectly sets the feeling of time and place with her vivid descriptions of the scenery and political situations of the times. When you take that and add in the wit, humor, and deeply felt emotions within her writing, you can’t help but have a wonderful story. The writing is excellently done, the story is perfectly paced, the characters are exceptional and the romance is definitely sigh-worthy.

Our two lead characters have both been badly hurt by romance in the past. They are still bruised, battered, and scarred from those experiences. Neither trusts themselves to make decisions about future relationships – and therefore they mistrust everyone. They’ll each have to grow and forgive themselves before they can ever trust another with their hearts. The prose was so well done that I could actually feel every emotion as it passed through these wonderful characters.

Piers, Viscount Eastwood, son of the Earl of Writtle, is the scandal of the ton. He’s divorced of all things – and he divorced his wife just prior to her delivering a child. Rumors are running rampant, but it is generally accepted that he is a beast and that he divorced his wife because she was beneath his station. Piers’ divorce has been exceedingly hard on him. He avoids society and has lost all self-esteem. The only life he participates in is his work life because with the war going on, he has to do that. He’s never publicly spoken about his wife or his divorce, nor has he defended himself even from the most egregious of the rumors. His loving family wants him to move on with his life – but how can he? He can’t trust his judgment – he can’t trust himself to choose someone who will love him for him. He’s dull, staid, and ordinary – who would want someone like him?

Faith Brooke has a boisterous, loving, unconventional family consisting of two sisters (Hope and Charity) along with her parents, the famed portraitist Augustus Brooke and the famous soprano Roberta Brooke. Although they are volatile artistic types, her parents are very straightlaced. Each sister has her own goals and careers they wish to pursue – one is a writer and one is following in their mother’s footsteps – Faith is following in their father’s footsteps as a gifted artist.

Piers and Faith cross paths when Piers’ mother commissions a family portrait from Augustus Brooke. As her father’s assistant, Faith accompanies him to the sittings to begin preparing the large canvas. Faith has heard all of the rumors and has read all of the scandal sheets and is filled with condemnation for Piers. Since she can’t keep her thoughts to herself, they have a bit of a tense exchange at the beginning. Piers reminds Faith of someone who took gross advantage of her and her naïveté when she was younger. Piers has to be the same – after all – he did divorce his pregnant wife.

I love how they both felt the attraction, yet both were very reluctant to trust the other. They wouldn’t believe their hearts could now choose the right person when it had chosen so wrongly before. I also loved how honest they were with each other – they didn’t lie – they didn’t pretend – they made it very plain they didn’t trust. All of that makes their HEA that much more lovely.

I truly hope you will read this book and love it as much as I did. I can hardly wait to see what Hope and Charity’s stories will be. I think we’re in for a real treat. I did notice the word SMOG in the book and hope the author will have replaced that prior to the publication of the book. I’m sure there were other anachronisms in there, but that is the one that caught my attention and made me smile.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advanced Reader Copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This book is different from most romances that I have read in that the Hero has not become a hardened Rake due to his cheating wife. He divorces her and carries the burden of that. He suffers internally and the writer shows that throughout the book. He is a diplomat during the Napoleonic wars and has a kind loving family. The Heroine is from a bohemian life and has had her trust in men damaged and also comes from a loving family. The story is how these two work things out. It had a few slow spots and maybe suspend belief a tiny bit for an enjoyable story. I rate it 3.5-4*

And the most gossiped-about lady…

After years as a diplomat in the Napoleonic Wars, Lord Eastwood is reluctant to return to London society. His scandalous divorce has made him infamous, not to mention cantankerous! Will their very opposite personal I one their undoing or their gain ...

While I thought at first it was an enemies to lovers tale, they quickly put aside their own misconceptions of the other, it is much more a second chance at love story.

Sparks fly immediately around Piers and Faith from their very first encounter to the nexts, while each finds contempt in the each, believing them the perfect representation of everything they loath. She too bold and fiery and him too staid and scandalous. They soon see past their own misperceptions that there is more to the other than they initially thought. They sought in the other the signs and sins of whom they desperately wanted too but it was quickly shred to nothing as none is in its inner core the person they so wanted to dislike.
When themselves see their own self as broken, bitter and flawed, too outspoken and disgraceful for her and too dull and boring for him.
With their personal notion of love destroyed by the errors of their past. They wore their scars like a flag, screaming danger if anyone comes too close from them.
Yet they also recognize a mate in the other as they sense the tumult and pain they so try to hide.

I so enjoyed how the author slowly but firmly brings them together, despite their initial safeguarding, they can not go against the current, they are drawn to one another, up to them to explore it and learn to trust again.

When Lord Eastwood,a diplomat and Miss Faith Brookes, an artist, meet each other they take an instantly dislike because of some prejudices. Lord Eastwoon is a divorcé, according to what the gossip column he left his pregnant wife in Portugal and he came back to London. Faith Brookes is a beautiful lively girl almost ever present on the gossip columns thanks to her artsy family more than true scandals. Even if they can't stand each other they are forced to spend some time together because Faith and her father have to draw a family portrait commissioned by Piers' mother. Will the given time spent together let them know each other better? Or will they keep each other at distance to not repeat the same mistakes of the past?

Faith and Piers couldn't be more different, extrovert and vibrant the first, shy and introvert the latter, but they share the same ammount of physical attraction and also the stubborness to not open up and to show each other their true selves.

I've really enjoyed to read Faith and Piers' story. I can't choose who is my favourite character between them I've just adored both of them, they are perfect for each other even if they do as much as they can to deny it.

The Viscount's Unconventional Lady is another well written story by Virginia Heath, with well developed, likeable characters. I adored the gossip column at the beginning of some chapters it sounded like Gossip Girl's voice into my head (xoxo GG).

This is a good start for a new charming historical series, I am definitely going to continue to read it, in order to get to know better Faith's sisters.

I waffled on this book for two weeks. The first time I read it, I really didn't care for it, at least not the first half. Yet Ms Heath is a favorite author, so I thought I should give The Viscount's Unconventional Lady a second chance. I am glad I did. Yes, I read it twice in two weeks. The first time I was going through a few difficulties, and that may have been reflected in my initial review which I did not publish.

I am quite enamored of Piers. Rarely does a H as insecure as Piers start the story, and completely capture my attention and Faith's. Faith is vivacious, outgoing, talented, and beautiful. Oh, Piers is handsome, talented, and subdued, as well, at least on the surface. It is such a good story how they finally get their HEA. The side characters were very interesting. Especially her sisters who will get their own books.

There are some modern terms (don't think the term smog was used till the 20th century), a few typos, a smattering of profanity. Not surprising in an ARC. Isobel was a little to precocious for my taste. The steaminess did cost it a star. This in no way affects this wonderful story. Now onto Hope's book.

My thanks to the author for a free copy of this book in exchange for a free and honest review. And so it is.

I received an ARC from Netgalley in return for an honest review. This is a new author to me and I am very pleased to have found her as I really enjoyed this book and it’s lovely to discover an author you like 👍

The story of artist Faith ,who has a strong reason for disliking abusive men and Piers, an apparently cold and abusive aristocrat flowed really well. The characters are interesting and engaging. The plot is believable and well executed. Sex scenes are steamy and emotional and the dialogue just emerges authentically. I enjoyed this although there were a few moments when I was thrown out of the story by anachronisms but none so serious as to spoil the story.

Piers, Viscount Eastwood, has been shunned by high society for divorcing his wife. To Faith Brookes and her sisters (who believe what they read in the scandal sheets) the Viscount is known as Lord Beastly. So when she assists her father, a famous painter, her first meeting with Piers is a jarring one. As Faith comes to know and understand Piers, she realizes that the scandal sheets have it wrong. Of course, Faith has her own secrets to hide and when Piers rescues her from a past mistake, things change between them. While both have been hurt in the past, they come to accept and love one another.

This new Virginia Heath read will definitely give you the warm fuzzies. Unlike her past two series, there is no subterfuge or evil bad guys. Instead, the main theme is about putting aside past hurts and being willing to take a chance on love. A quick read with great characters, it definitely got me back into reading historical romances.

I gave The Viscount's Unconventional Lady a B+ at All About Romance.

Looking for a romance novel that’s low on angst and high on sexual tension? One you’ll finish with a sigh of contented satisfaction? Then look no further. The Viscount’s Unconventional Lady is, ironically, a somewhat conventional love story featuring a buttoned up, emotionally scarred hero who’s been burned by love who falls for his opposite – a bold, vibrant artist who was once unlucky in love, too. Opposites attract in this lovely second chance romance, and I enjoyed it very much.

Oldest of three sisters born to a famed opera singer and a much in demand portrait artist, Faith Brooke is a talented artist in her own right. After training under her father, Faith now works as his assistant, accompanying him to sittings and helping to complete the final, finished works of art. She enjoys the work, but longs to establish her own name and identity in the art community. Her bohemian family is no stranger to the gossip columns, and while much of what’s written about them is untrue, they enjoy reading the latest society gossip and rumors, too. Lately, the gossip columns are full of speculation about the scandalous divorce of Viscount Piers Eastwood, the eldest son of the Earl of Writtle. Faith is convinced he’s a villain – he divorced his wife while she was pregnant! – and since her own youthful, secret affair with a nobleman ended in disaster, she’s quick to believe the worst of him. As does her upset mother, who, when The Viscount’s Unconventional Lady begins, tries – and fails – to convince her husband not to allow Faith to assist him on his most recent commission – painting a family portrait of the Writtles.

Piers Eastwood is a seasoned diplomat who’s spent years working to bring about the end of the Napoleonic wars. After several years abroad and a scandalous divorce from his young, beautiful, Portuguese wife, he’s finally returned to England. Painted as a craven villain who left his pregnant wife because she wasn’t good enough for him, Piers tries (and fails) to ignore the hurtful, spiteful gossip, and buries himself in his work. Calm in a crisis, and a gentleman who always keeps his less charitable thoughts to himself, Piers refuses to discuss the cause of the divorce or his former wife. He has no plans to remarry, and doesn’t trust himself not to make a hash of it all over again. On this afternoon – pressed by his mother – he’s made himself available to meet with Augustus Brooke, an artist his mother has commissioned to paint a family portrait. Mr. Brooke is younger than expected, but Piers is completely unprepared for Brooke’s daughter and assistant. Beautiful and vibrant, Faith is exactly the kind of woman Piers can’t resist. Fortunately for Piers, she makes it abundantly clear she doesn’t feel the same.

Faith spends this first meeting getting to know the Writtles, secretly cursing the contemptible, handsome Lord Eastwood. She tries (and fails) to ignore him, and focuses her attention on the rest of the Writtle family. She charms, she teases, and she almost distracts herself from sneaking glances at the handsome, quiet stranger lurking in the periphery of her view… until his mother suggests Piers shows her the room where the portrait is meant to be hung. Once there, Faith is unable to hold her tongue, and flustered by her attraction to a man she doesn’t like, she lashes out. Piers, unflappable as usual, refuses to be baited by the lovely painter, calmly rebukes her and leaves. Later on, they both find reasons to regret this acrimonious first meeting. And fortunately for readers, rather than belabor this less than auspicious beginning, Ms. Heath does the unexpected: she sends Faith to apologize!

Piers is shocked when Faith knocks on his office door, and completely flustered by her presence. His precocious niece – who enjoys hiding away beneath his desk – offers up suggestions on what to say to her, but Piers eventually offers his own apology. The two enjoy a brief, enjoyable conversation and afterwards, they both can’t help but marvel at their easy companionship. And Faith is quick to acknowledge the unlikelihood of Piers abandoning his pregnant wife. What begins as a casual friendship quickly segues into a mutual attraction they’re both powerless to resist.

The Viscount’s Unconventional Lady features two damaged principal characters who, after being badly burned by love (or lust) once before, struggle to overcome their fears and doubts about falling in love again. Piers remains fodder for the gossip columns – ridiculed by the press at every turn – and Faith is forced to confront her hurtful past and former lover after rumors swirl about a possible relationship with Piers. They skittishly dance around their attraction until events conspire to force them to confess how they feel.

Ms. Heath writes believable plots about characters you can’t help but root for. She rarely goes for the gimmick when she can instead pull at your heartstrings, and if I rolled my eyes at a ten-year old giving relationship advice to an adult? Well, I got over it! It’s impossible not to like Piers and Faith, and the author does a lovely job bringing them together in a way that feels consistent with their mutual relationship history. Even before Piers reveals the truth behind his divorce, he’s already proved what Faith’s heart already knows – that he’s a good man who made a mistake – and that the rumors about the demise of his marriage can’t possibly be true. Likewise, when he learns about Faith’s youthful affair with another nobleman, he doesn’t offer platitudes or censure – he gives her a shoulder to cry on, and ensures the creep doesn’t plague her in the future. They support and care for each other, and the slower moving pace of their courtship melds perfectly with their cautiously optimistic hopes for a future together. Their romance is a treat, and I loved this pairing from start to finish.

Virginia Heath writes comfort food romance and while The Viscount’s Unconventional Lady doesn’t break any new ground, it’s an enjoyable and entertaining read anyway. I liked him, I liked her, and I liked their love story. I’m curious about Faith’s sisters – a singer and novelist, respectively – and I’ll be looking forward to reading their stories, too. Recommended.

I cannot believe I'm saying this, but I wish this book has several more pages for the steamy sex scenes because I waited with bated breath for Piers and Faith to finally consummate their attraction and relationship graphically on page!! 😆

This is my first of Virginia Heath; her name has been on my radar because I see it on some lists of recommended Harlequin Historical romance. I decided to go with this one, since it's the first of an already finished trilogy, it's relatively new (released last year), AND it promises unconventional lady.

I loved it! I loved that Piers were NOT the devil reincarnate that we supposed to see him. That he actually was kind and rather socially inept, and the hurt over his wife's betrayal made ran deep. I loved that he was so sweet with his niece, and I enjoyed the progressing relationship between Piers and Faith.

I loved Faith for being able to see through Piers, even if at first she had her own judgment of Piers (duly noted, him over hers as well). I think she will be VERY GOOD for Lord Eastwood, that she will make Piers happy, and if they fight, it will have great apology sex later.

So my first Virginia Heath is a success. I look forward to the sisters' stories next: Hope and Charity

ebook borrowed from K.U.
Regency 1814
Faith & Piers, Lord Eastwood

I have read a few of Heath's books and enjoyed them well enough. This one...meh. It did not have a Regency feel for me. The language used sounded more like my 1950s and 1960s household.

Faith says: "I can assure you it will be a cold day in hell before I allow...." this from a 24 year old supposedly sheltered young lady. I looked up usage of the that phrase and it seems it was more like 1886. Perhaps nothing to get shook up about, but I found it odd.

A mention of someone being "three sheets to the wind", which I understand was used in the 1800s but it derived from sailors and referred to masts blowing drunkenly. So perhaps this wasn't unusual but not something I usually see in the books I read, if ever.

Piers constant use of the term "brat" to describe his niece. That is a term that goes back a ways, but again, not a word I recall seeing in other books. Felt very modern to me.

This one has to be a first: "Piers began to gather his papers, trying to ignore his rumbling tummy"...yes, it actually said tummy. I KNOW I have never read any book where the hero referred to his rumbling tummy.

So, this was not a favorite for me. I can see why the story itself is earning high points as it is engaging enough I think. I just can't get past the modern feel to the language.

💋💋

Faith Brookes and Viscount Piers Eastwood are a match made in heaven.
She’s as aspiring artist, he’s a wicked divorcee in an age when divorce was strictly taboo.

The couple have not just the Ton to deal with but their own personal Demons to battle too.
If they can stick together victory may finally belong to them.

Excellent story and riveting characters keep the book moving forward at a perfect pace.
Loved every page

A story of two people who have been badly hurt by a past lover and are vulnerable, afraid of love and recovering their self esteem. Faith is a painter from a wonderfully artistic family who is bold, talented, and direct. Piers is a diplomat who scandalously divorced his pregnant wife. A very well written romance with two strong, interesting characters.

Characters Review

Piers:

Our hero is a wonderful gentleman. Socially awkward, an adorable introvert and a workaholic. He's a sweet introvert who just doesn't know what to do when around women. He's been unjustly vilified, and though he doesn't care to change anything the society says about him, he does carry a lot of wounds in private. Shattered heart, self-esteem, and trust.

Although what made this book refreshing, was his storyline. He's a divorcee turned into a social pariah. Usually the heroes we read about— from similar circumstances, are always sleeping around and super jaded and keep disrespecting woman just because that one woman broke his trust.

Our hero Piers was quite the opposite. He's always very respectful, noble and diplomatic. He truly loves and adores his family and is one of the most reasonable, level-headed, and truly decent men I've ever read about. And he's got a sense of dry humour that I actually find charming, and is a man who can take a joke. He's the kind of person we'd say “protect this man at all costs” for. And all those scenes of him interacting with his niece just had me swooning beyond belief.

Faith:

She's a hot-headed, straight forward woman who knows her worth. Eldest daughter to a famous artist and a famous opera singer, following her artistic father's footsteps. Eldest sister to Hope: the forever pessimistic and aspiring writer, and Charity: the hopeless romantic and a budding singer following her mother's footsteps. She's got that full-of-life persona, despite being a slightly jaded and a completely wary soul.

Thought I did find it hard to like her at the very beginning, because she made the mistake of being prejudicial towards Piers and that was completely unwarranted seeing as her source of information was the daily gossip columns. I wouldn't have expected this from any heroine, let alone one who regularly features alongside her family in the same gossip columns for various stories varying between partially true to completely false.

But it was quite easy to forgive her rudeness, because she immediately corrected her course of actions and was in fact a solid pillar for Piers numerous times. That wasn't to say Piers was never a knight in shining armor to her, coz he indeed was, and that was one of the best scenes ever in this book.

I could also look past that, because all those negative behaviors of hers came from a sad, self-loathing, and betrayed part of her.

Side Characters:

The little niece, Miss Isobel— is an enigma. No words can do this little lady justice.

Special mention: Milton— the mind reading butler.

Hope Brookes (2nd sister) swiftly won my respect. She's one brilliant and wise woman.

Mrs Roberta Brookes: Oh lord she's a little too much. She's the kind of loud you find annoying. I'm one to often find fussy mother's adorable. But she was a genuine headache. But may my review not vilify her in anyone's eyes. I just found her a bit too much because of her completely unwarranted constant rudeness towards Piers. She did change like a tiny bit towards the end though.

Mr Augustus Brookes: He's got the temperament, and the pish and the posh of an artist in that particular century. But he's an adorable father to his daughters, and oftentimes the level headed one, especially compared to his wife. He's mostly unbiased, and has a straight and impartial view of things and so that's a respectable quality in him.

The entire family of Piers' were likeable and decent. And not once did it look like they weren't there for Piers, coz they sure were.

Quotes

Although both she and my vile niece are here so much, I constantly wonder why they haven’t yet demolished the wall between us to make my misery complete.

The stuttering, awkward Piers had returned with a vengeance and she adored it.

Then we struggle through piously as best we can, with gritted teeth until the time is right and we are certain that this thing between us is not just lust—but trust and love too.

And then I’ll happily take you up against any wall you fancy at the merest click of your seductive fingers, you minx.

I’ve already arranged two eagle-eyed chaperons to protect your virtue for the duration—and I’m starving.

If you step lively, and stop looking so damn tempting, woman, I’ll even throw in a chocolate.

‘I was going to rent you a little one in Bloomsbury...’
‘That’ll be nice. We can share it until I leave you for a duke.’

As the daughter of famous parents, her father is an artist and her mother is an opera singer, Faith Brooke, should know that gossip isn’t always accurate. But when her father takes a commission to paint a family portrait for the Earl and Countess of Writtle, Faith can’t seem to recall that fact and has already judged their son Viscount Eastwood as a scoundrel and is determined to hate him on principle – so why does he have to be so incredibly handsome!?!

The infamous Viscount Eastwood and heir to the Earl of Writtle is a busy man, or more accurately a boring man who buries himself in work. The gossip sheets have painted him as a cold-hearted despot who when he became bored with his lower station-born, pregnant wife, divorced her on dubious claims of infidelity and left her in Portugal without a backward glance – which is far from what really happened, yet Piers refuses to defend himself and avoids society as much as possible. When his mother insists that he sit for the portrait, he begrudgingly agrees but regrets it as soon as he sets eyes on Faith and is immediately attracted to her. Experience has been a brutal mistress and Piers knows that beautiful women are nothing but harbingers of heartache

These two dance around their attraction, but can’t avoid spending time together and soon they realize that they have misjudged each other, but past pain has made them both cautious about giving into attraction and agree to form a friendship. But clearly, their attraction exceeds the boundaries of mere friendship and as they tiptoe towards courtship, but supporting and encouraging each other, they will have to learn to trust one another with their fragile hearts before they can have any hope of HEA.

This was a well-written, sweet story with wonderfully flawed characters who will have to decide if love is really worth the risk of heartbreak. I really liked Faith and Piers, they are likable, relatable, and believable – anyone who has had their heart broken can empathize with these two and will root for their HEA. In addition to wonderful leads, there is a complete host of secondary characters that enrich this tale, Faith’s family; her quirky parents, and her talented sisters; Hope and Charity as well as Piers family, especially his precocious niece Isobel, by adding humor and witty banter. The book is full of emotion, betrayal, regrets, secrets, warmish love scenes, villains getting their due, and a lovely HEA. This is the first book in the series and I happily recommend the book and will certainly be looking forward to future installments!

Let me begin with the best recommendation I can give: It kept me up most of the night. I couldn't put it down. Heath's Brooke family is a highly original collection of creative types of all sorts living in Bloomsbury, not Mayfair and resigned to being regular staple of the snooty gossip columns. Viscount Eastwood may be a a pariah to society, one mothers do their best to protect their daughters from, but he is at heart a mild-mannered, diplomatic type whose own self-image is that of a sober, rather boring fellow. Faith Brookes is the mirror opposite. When she meets him she accuses him of doing his best work from an armchair. It becomes for want of a better word, a motif between them. What they have in common, however are old hurts, the kind that get in the way of any sort of relationship. Both characters are attractive, well rounded, and sympathetic, and their vulnerabilities deeply explored. Flashes of humor, excellent pacing, an emotionally satisfying ending—what more could a reader want? I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for a honest review and I've written one.

I did enjoy this book very much. Faith Brookes is an outspoken lady who comes from an artistic family. Her mother is a famous opera singer and is prone to being dramatic. Her father is a well known portraiture artist. Faith herself is a gifted artist albeit in a different style to her father. Piers, Viscount Eastwood, is a more serious gentleman, he has recently divorced his wife and this has caused much speculation. When Faith and Piers first met, it was quite antagonistic. However as they got to know each other so they began to understand each other’s insecurities. They were so alike in some ways but so different in others. This was a very engaging read and I must mention Pier’s niece, Isobel, she comes out with some gems! I received a copy and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own. I did preorder my own copy.

I have always said that Virginia Heath is a wonderful author, and – in my humble opinion – her real forte is in her gift for created the most luscious, brooding, sexy, handsome, charming, gruff heroes who demand your attention with every scene they are in, and our gorgeous yet flawed Piers is no different – I am willing to say he is one of the finest to date. He is everything you would expect from a brooding historical hero plus add into the mix those luminescent beautiful green eyes – I could happily drown in those emerald eyes!!!

I do have a real love of a pair of green, green eyes 🙂

I love how some of the chapters open with a little piece of gossip which come from the fabulously named; Whispers from Behind the Fan it’s a fun little twist on Heath’s usual style, it reminds me a little of her debut; The Discerning Gentleman’s Handbook – which has these wonderfully funny little snippets at the beginning of each chapter. I definitely think the Whispers from Behind the Fan could be made into a book or series of its own.

The Viscount’s Unconventional Lady is the first book in the brand new series; The Talk of the Beau Monde, and it’s a cracking start to what I can see is going to be a fabulously charming and fun series. I feel like I have been waiting with baited breathe for a new Virginia Heath series, don’t get me wrong her stand-alone’s are some of the finest around, but there is just something very special about the way she brings a series together they flow from story to the next with the up-most ease and you become completely transfixed wanting to know where said series will take you and always being surprised once you reach the finale.

After divorcing his adulterous wife, Piers; Viscount Eastwood has caused scandal and is now shunned by the ton, something which does hurt him especially as people judges him before they understand the truth. He now throws himself into work and hoping to fade into the background and basically be forgotten about for the rest of his life – if only his family thought the same as him!

But, alas his interfering mother wants her handsome son forefront and proud, which is why she has commissioned a HUGE portrait of him which didn’t go down to well with our reclusive Viscount and its even worse when he meets the irritatingly perky, beautiful, talkative, unabashed and judgmental little minx who will be assisting in the process, usually, our Piers would just slink away happily ensconced in his lair but with her, that is far easier said than done as she gets under his skin from the outset.

I absolutely love the way they head butt one and other, the dialogue between them is both lustful, witty, charming and at times toxic, neither holds their tongue when the other is around and I thought it was brilliant fun, it’s a testament to just how well Heath writes, she has a real flair with a cheeky wit.

My heart has been completely stolen by Piers, unlike most historical heroes he is not so much brooding and moody, but there is an insecurity about him which pulls at the heart-strings, he’s shy, uncertain and a complete sweet-heart. All he wants to do is blend into the wallpaper, to me he reminded me of a shy wallflower at a party; sitting in the corner avoiding peoples gaze, unbeknown to them they are in fact the centre of attention. Yet when he chooses to woo, he smoulders, that lustful green gaze will have any red-blooded woman throwing off their glittery dresses ready to be ravaged – but alas our boy only sets those emeralds at one brazen hussy and when he does…well…pass the smelling salts, I’m going into a swoon – especially after they shall we say christened the armchair. 😉

I really like Faith, she is a great character, strong-willed, no-nonsense, talkative, passionate, loyal, independent, savvy, smart, beautiful – yet she doesn’t see it, out-going, caring, compassionate and I like that she does speak her mind, she holds nothing back even though at times she would do better in holding her tongue – but to be honest, haven’t we all spoken before engaging our brains?

I really liked the entirety of the cast of character’s, there are some real gems hidden away within the story, I enjoyed briefly getting to know Faith’s sister’s and can easily see we are going to have a lot of fun when it comes to their stories. For me, the only fly in the works was Isabel, who I found a little irritating, but that’s OK we can’t love all characters, can we? The of this show is easily Piers, he steals every scene he’s in, he makes you fall in love without even meaning to and he proves that heroes don’t always have to be sword-wielding warriors to steal the heart.

Overall, The Viscount’s Unconventional Lady is a wonderful story which at the heart is all about two people moving past hurt to find happiness, it’s emotionally driven with drama and plenty of sizzling sexual tension and oodles of good-natured wit, highly recommended!

After years as a diplomat in the Napoleonic wars, Lord Eastwood is reluctant to return to London society. Piers’ scandalous divorce has made him infamous, not to mention cantankerous! To halt the rumour mill, he should marry a quiet noblewoman instead it’s bold, vibrant artist, Faith Brookes, who’s caught his attention. They are the least suitable match
A very well written book with brilliant characters. The author is one of my must read authors, she never has two dimensional characters & her books are always littered with wonderful historical facts so there’s that delicious mix of fact & fiction, which for me brings the books to life. I loved both Piers & Faith, they were like chalk & cheese in some ways but so similar in others. Both had been hurt in love & truly believed they would never love again so both were very wary of their growing attraction. How their relationship developed from disdain to love made for a totally engrossing, captivating read, which I just devoured & even the lousy weather conspired to keep me curled up in the warmth glued to my kindle
My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read

The Viscount's Unconventional Lady is book one of The Talk of the Beau Monde series of Regency romances.

Faith Brookes is a painter and the daughter of famous portrait artist Augustus Brookes. Faith will start the background for her father’s latest commission, a family portrait for the Earl of Writtle. Recently the Earl’s son, Piers, has been the victim of society gossip and shunned by many after a scandalous divorce. Faith already has a preconceived opinion of him, and she allows her anger about his apparent treatment of his wife to show when they meet.

However, the newspapers have only reported one side of the story and while Faith works on the canvas for her father, she begins to learn more about Piers and finds that he isn’t all that the rumour-mongers make him out to be.

Piers is fascinated by Faith; the woman creates her own dress style and has an unusual sense of wit. But he doesn’t want his heart broken again so soon after the breakdown of his marriage, while Faith has her own reasons to be cautious about forming anything more than friendship with a Lord.

I enjoyed losing myself in this story for a few hours of pure escapism; I was quite happy to be drawn into the Regency era and to forget the real world for a while. Virginia Heath always writes characters that I want to befriend, and this is another winner for me from this author. I shall look forward to reading the rest of the series.

Are you reading Virginia Heath? I discovered her Harlequin Historical Romances in 2019 and have been happily gobbling them up ever since.

The Viscount's Unconventional Lady is her newest book and, like others of hers that I've read, proved remarkably difficult to put down. Faith and Piers are immensely sympathetic and likeable characters in whom I quickly became invested. I enjoyed their slow-burn evolution from adversaries who each (erroneously) pre-judge the other to a tentative friendship, mutual respect, desire, and, eventually, love. Their journey is filled with witty banter, genuine affection, unexpected revelations, and triumph over those who have wronged them. Heath imbues them both with vividly depicted layers that bring them to life, leaving the reader feeling as though these are actual people rather than characters in a book. Contributing to that feeling is the fact that both Faith and Piers have careers to which they are dedicated, she as an artist attempting to step out from her famous father's shadow and he as a "dull and boring" diplomat (his description) whose job is anything but inconsequential. I enjoyed the specific details Heath included that offered insight into the intricacies of their lives and careers.

The secondary characters who surround the main couple are anything but boring wallpaper. In fact, Piers' young niece steals every scene she's in, Faith's flamboyantly artistic parents are larger than life, and her equally intriguing younger sisters appear to be destined for books of their own.

The Viscount's Unconventional Lady launches a new series so if you're new to Virginia Heath's historical romances, this book would be a great place to start. I thoroughly enjoyed it.

He may be a moth to a flame, but she is just as drawn in by 'Lord Beastly'...and the use of the word drawn is very apropos considering her father and herself are there to complete an artistic endeavor commissioned by said Beastly's mother. Don't worry, there aren't any ACTUAL beasts, only what the ton perceives someone to be due to their actions based on little to no fact. Then again, when did gossip need to be substantiated to spread like wildfire...a fact BOTH of our leads have the unfortunate past to know all too well. Thing is...souls that are searching for their other half often find them unexpectedly and in the most unlikely of places, especially when they recognize a bit of themselves in them. So what are two heart's hurt by love to do? What indeed...

Faith was more than just a pretty face or daughter of a painter. She, herself, was talented with a pencil or paintbrush, could hold her own in conversation, and would willingly give a piece of her mind to anyone needing it. She did not entertain fools, nor did she have the patience, beyond what polite society demanded, to cater to them. She was not all fire though; she also had conscience and heart. When she ascertained that she was wrong in her initial impressions, she was able to swallow her pride and apologize for the misstep, which can be hard for the purest of us. Lord Eastwood, on the other hand, was a man of two natures; the persona detailed in the papers, and the real man behind the name. To the ton, he was 'Lord Beastly' and well deserving of the name. Behind closed doors or if given half the chance, there is a great certainty that you would be second-guessing this was indeed the same man of gossip mill fame. I shan't continue, lest I spoil the reveals, but suffice it to say, not all or everyone is as it/they appear.

I’m delighted by this first book in Virginia Heath’s new series about three sisters: daughters of a famous artist and a celebrated opera singer, the Brookes sisters are each unique in their own way, talented and strong-willed. Faith, the eldest, is an artist following in her father’s footsteps and currently acting as his assistant. Brought in to create a large portrait for an Earl’s family, Faith is hesitant about the scandalous eldest son of the family… a man whose scandal her mother can only spell out in hushed tones, because Piers, Viscount Eastwood, D-I-V-O-R-C-E-D his first wife.

Piers, however, isn’t at all the Lord Beastly who Faith expects. He’s steady - calm - responsible. An experienced diplomat working with the War Office, translating and negotiating with all the different delegations trying to end the war with Napoleon, he’s a far cry from the scandalous man the gossip sheets led her to expect. And he’s extremely attractive.

Faith is a delight, talented, independent, supported by a loving (and hilarious) family. It’s easy to see how Piers fell head over heels for her so fast. Having been taken advantage of by an earl’s son in the past, though, Faith is understandably gun-shy, and Piers’ own awful romantic past adds more obstacles they have to overcome on their way to a happy ending.

I really enjoyed this, and I’m very much looking forward to reading about Hope and Charity getting their happy endings in the rest of the series! Five stars for a great read.

The Viscount’s Unconventional Lady by Virginia Heath is an excellent historical romance. The author does a wonderful job setting the time, and the vivid descriptions made me feel as though I was in this story.

The writing is really great. I enjoyed the wit and humor that was mixed in with the heartfelt romance as well. The pacing was great, and kept me interested.

The romance is beautiful. The two main characters have been hurt in the past, so trust is hard to come by for both of them. It is great to see their relationship move through the book. There is nothing instant. This is a layered romance novel.

I liked this book a lot and would recommend it for historical romance fans.

Absolutely wonderful read. Faith Brookes is a painter under her famous father's tutelage and has come to paint the diplomat Lord Piers Eastwood's family portrait. Both Piers and Faith have had bad experiences with love in the past and are not willing to get involved ever again. But never say never, as the saying goes. Fell in love with these two and had to keep reading until the most satisfactory conclusion. Highly recommend.

To paraphrase Will Rogers, I never met a Virginia Heath book I didn’t like. She is a natural storyteller and creates characters you love to love. The Viscount’s Unconventional Lady is a enemies-to-lovers story told with warmth and humor.
Faith Brookes is the “unconventional lady.” The daughter of an artist and an opera singer, she is passionate and forthright. Lord Eastwood is a serious, diligent diplomat that has just divorced his pregnant wife, making him a pariah in the eyes of society. Lily and Piers meet when her father is hired to paint a large family portrait. Lily is prepared to hate a man that would cast aside his wife and child, plus she is still reeling from the rejection of her first love. Can two people who were burned by love find a reason to try again?
Virginia Heath writes some of the best beta heroes ever. Piers is a genuinely sweet guy. He brilliantly serves his country and continually cares for his family yet he is humble and somewhat insecure. Faith is a bit antagonistic about men, but has to reevaluate her feelings about Piers. His interactions with his niece are absolutely adorable. The Viscount’s Unconventional Lady has all the elements of a terrific story – engaging characters, humor, great writing, and plenty of difficulties to overcome. Don’t miss this charming book!
