Keep Calm and Run 100 Miles: A Story of Sheer Determination

Rate this book
Entering a 100-mile endurance run is something the average runner would not even dream of doing. Not only did Mark Ransom decide to compete in such an event, but he did so with an inadequate amount of training and experience, and also went against medical advice by running at all.
This is Mark’s account of his journey from a time in his life when he had resigned himself to the fact that he would never run again, to the point where he took on this monumental 100-mile challenge. His story is brutally open and honest and he speaks freely about his thoughts and feelings along the way, and the obstacles he had to overcome in the process. Mark is not new to the world of endurance sport as he has previously swum the English Channel, which is the subject of his first book. However, he always considered himself to be a natural swimmer, whereas running was a whole different world of difficulty for him. This certainly did not deter Mark at all but simply fired his determination to push through many boundaries and succeed.
Mark Ransom’s book aims to entertain, inform and inspire. Sit down and relax while you experience what it's really like to run 100 miles. Then get up and do something amazing yourself.

I recently read this book. I am just starting in triathlon and am finding the running the hardest part. I enjoyed this because it wasn’t about a super ripped athlete on an extreme diet with exceptional discipline, it was about a normal guy who through a series of races and ever-increasing distances achieved the remarkable.

His persistence and optimism to try and simply continue until his goals are achieved are a lesson to everyone. It shows that with the right mindset you will get there by just putting one foot after the other.

I won't lie, this book resonated a lot for me - not because I've done a 100 miler, I haven't, but on the running side I found I had events in common with Mark, and experiences.
That said you meet a lot of people with interesting stories in the running world and Mark is no exception - I won't spoil things, but his is an interesting tale. I'd recommend a read.
