The War of Vengeance has begun; the Rahain have invaded the Empire, and the fate of the world hangs in the balance.
Keir Holdfast, elder son of Daphne and Killop, is always in trouble. Already an accomplished vision mage at 16, his life is turned upside down with the news that he also shares the same powers as his aunt, the infamous fire mage who brought down the old empire.
Can he learn how to harness his powers in service of the new empire, or will his arrogance lead to his downfall?
Hundreds of miles from the fighting, within the depths of the Sanang forest, a visitor arrives with a message for a family of hedgewitches; a message that will transform their lives, and change the destiny of the Magelands forever.

About Me
I love deserts, which is too bad as I live in Scotland, but the mountains, glens and lochs more than make up for it. My other love is Greek Tragedy, especially Euripides, and I also read history, science, fantasy, and pretty much anything about the Beatles…

Argh! I have to wait until next month to pick up where this book ends. I love this series. The characters are strong enough that for the most part I can remember who they are and their mage capabilities even though I've read books with different storylines in between. I wanted to confront the author on more than one occasion about the fates of a couple of my favorites. There were others whom I would have preferred to see gotten rid of but, alas, I am only the reader. As it turns out, said characters do have their uses and hopefully will turn out to be more likable in the future.
Several of the younger people are uniting and their combined talents should be a force to be reckoned with. Bridget is brilliant.
There's a recently obtained magical object with powers to be explored. Not only that but some of the players are developing heretofore unrealized talents. Never a dull moment.
I can't even put into words how much I love this series and it's definitely saved into my favourite list for re-reading in the future. Everytime I think it can't get better, it does.
I started off really hating Keir and Thorn from the last book, but I can now see why they were written that way - building up to the last 10% of book 6 which was AMAZING - literal page turner, I couldn't put it down.
I didn't think I'd like the new generation of characters from the Star Continent as much as the ones from the original 4 books but I do, I really do.
So glad I started reading this only after all 8 books were published, I think having to wait for each book to be released every few months would have been torture! Thanks to Christopher Mitchell for creating this rich magical world that draws you in, and I can't wait to carry on with the final 2 books in the Magelands Epic series as I'm sure more hard and bittersweet times are coming 🥲

Storm Mage is Book 6 in Christopher Mitchell's Magelands Epic. This isn't really a series you can just pickup at this point, you'll need to already be familiar with the world or it won't make sense. If you've noticed this book but haven't read the other I would really like to recommend this series. Christopher Mitchell has made a truly unique and multi-layered universe.
I continue to be amazed at how dynamic the characters are. As we meet characters we think we already know they develop in ways we never saw coming. Magical boundaries are also broken as things we never thought possible suddenly are. This story continues the trend where these books have a darker theme. When you think you have things figured out you turn the page and the rules change. I loved every second of this book.
I received an advanced copy of this story from the author and am leaving a voluntary honest review.
I can’t see myself ever giving less than 5 stars, this series is one of the best I have ever read. The characters are 3 dimensional, flawed and therefore very ‘human’, more twists and turns than a twisty turns thing and all in all a damn fine read.
Outstanding! The title threw me but eventually revealed itself. Wonderful characters, tons of action, edge of your seat ride! I couldn’t put it down. The Holdfast children do not disappoint!
