Balthazar knows he shouldn’t feel guilty for wanting what his friend has: a One and child. He adores their little boy and is happy to be an honorary uncle, but he wants his own. Amherst Coven has been blessed with fated mates recently, and Balthazar yearns to be the next to find his match.
Grant is a warlock without powers, and he was okay with that. He’d come to terms with being broken decades ago. That didn’t mean he wanted to move to a coven after spending his entire life living amongst humans. But to make his mother happy, he’d do just that.
Fate has a funny way of working, and both Balthazar and Grant know that it was fate that brought them together. Things aren’t quite how either envisioned, but that doesn’t mean they can’t make things work. After all, they were paired because they were perfect for one another.
Balthazar is the second book in the Warlocks of Amherst series. Each book will focus on a different couple and can be read as standalones, but previous couples will make appearances in future books. This book is intended for adults only as it contains a fated mate pair and plenty of magical sexy times that leads to male pregnancy as this is an MPREG story.
This book was better than book one, but I was lost about the breaking into the Coven property. That plot line was spotty and really wasn't needed. It had possibilities but it was used to it potential.
Balthazar is a warlock who finds himself lonely and yearning for a family like his friend, Cornelius, now has. Grant and his parents are new applicants to the coven after not being a part of one for so many years. It takes only moments for the two to know that their mate is nearby but Grant's knowledge of warlocks and their history is seriously lacking and he feels broken himself with very low access to his magic. He's in for a crash course with Balthazar, especially as their mating is on a timeline. Though Balthazar and Grant are really quite different people, they work very well together and balance each other well. Balthazar brings a sense of order whilst Grant brings a bit of light and freedom. I enjoyed how Balthazar was so supportive of Grant with how he hasn't been in a magical community for so long and there are several men in the coven who step up with friendship and support from the start. It's a wonderful coven with a great mix of people. There's very little drama so it's a mostly low angst romance with the odd moment that brings a moment of tension to the characters and story. This can be read as a standalone though I think to really enjoy all of the history and what everyone offers, it would be good to read in order. A recommended paranormal romance that is well written with engaging characters. I look forward to the next one from this enjoyable author. I received an ARC and am happily giving a review.
If you've read my review of Cornelious (Warlocks of Amherst #1) no, I didn't change my mind and no, I'm not reading this of my own free will. I happen to have made a "pact" to finish everything I read... even series.
Aaaaaaand... if that's not review enough, no, this book wasn't much better than book 1.
There were so many plot wholes and contradictions in this book, I felt as if this was written by different authors who for some reason didn't communicate much about the character's motivation or background and didn't bother doing more than a light speed read of what the other writers had worked before them.
In the beginning the relationship felt as if this would have a different pace, actual reluctance from one of the "ones" and maybe a bit of a build up before actually mating, but no, apparently it's the attack of the insta-love again. There were a lot of cheesy, annoying, unnecessary dialogues and drama, but the relationship again felt fake, forced and even more boring than Cornelious and Mathew's.
Dialogues, descriptions and narration still sucks with the same redundant details and repetitive platitudes, but more so hear with a more vague idea of how the world building works in this series. Not to mention more issues with the magic system and how it doesn't make sense.
Again, the conflict is not really a conflict, it felt very pathetic for me and the way it's resolved was dragged unnecessarily and fixed in such a way that it didn't make sense or felt relevant to the story making the chapters wasted on it nothing more than that... waste.
For me Balthazar was sometimes funny but mostly meh... not interesting and Grant so no better. In the beginning I thought he might be, because he was reluctant to instantly stick to Balthazar, had some reservations to living among warlocks, had insecurities because of his powers or the lack of them and once having met Patrick and Edison maybe he was something more???? BUT NO, those were all just ploint points for a chapter or 2 but one by one became a contradiction or insignificant.
My opinion about the series and the author stands. I have yet to see any improvement that makes this worth reading.
Way too many unanswered questions to be satisfying
I have some issues with the plotting in this book. Were the cameras actually a problem? Was that setup for activity in future books, or was it just a device to add tension to an otherwise smooth story? Were we supposed to suspect Grant’s parents of nefarious intentions before it was revealed about the real perpetrators? If I remember correctly, Edison and Alistair created wards around Honey Creek, and the area to prevent those with ill intent from entering the area, why can’t they do the same for Amherst and keep out Alpha Douche and his pack? Why do they have to rely on technology with only a little magic? Why were Grant’s powers treated like they were? What was the purpose behind it?
Basically, the relationship was good, but I had so many unanswered questions at the end of this book, that I found myself to be disappointed.
I won't go over the blurb as you can read in the description. 🧐🤔 𝔚𝔞𝔯𝔩𝔬𝔠𝔨𝔰 𝔒𝔣 𝔄𝔪𝔥𝔢𝔯𝔰𝔱 1. Cornelius - Cornelius & Matthew 2. Balthazar - Balthazar & Grant 3. Constantine 4. Grantham 5. Fenwick 6. Edison 7. Arthur
The start of this series is a great building foundation to such a different world that pulls you in with two different persons coming together.. There are other series interconnected to this but I've started here & I'm excited. 🎉✨ Thank you, Taylor Rylan💐 Narrator Michael Ferraiuolo, brilliant narration.Thank you🎧 Story 📚📚📚 Characters ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Spice 🌶🌶🌶🌶 Narration 👄 👄 👄 👄 #Balthazar #WarlockOfAmherstSeries #TaylorRylan #Narrator #MichaelFerraiuolo #BalthazarAndGrant #PNR #MM #MPREG #Warlock #Adult #GreatStart #Audiobooks
I absolutely loved this latest book in the Warlocks of Amherst series!!! Balthazar is seeing all of his friends find their true one and he is wishing to find his own true one now more than ever. Imagine his surprise when his fated mate Grant shows up at the coven. Grant is surprised that he has a true one because he has always thought himself as defective because he is unable to use his magic because it is so weak. They were truly made for each other, so supportive of each other and truly in love. There were bumps along the road...finding out why Grant's magic was weak was a huge surprise to them both, Grant's mom trying to complicate things but love as always finds a way to work things out. It was such a great story, I laughed, cried, and swooned during the hot steamy moments. They were so good for each other and I loved every minute of their story!!! I can't wait to read the next book in this amazing series...well done!
This feels like a book that isn't even half-written. Potential conflicts are raised that could possibly make this interesting but then resolved off-page. Apparently one character is a neat freak and the other isn't but that is raised once as a potential problem but never an actual one...
Oh and yes there's one woman character in this book and she's treated horribly. She's the enemy but looking at the story from her point of view, it's the equivalent of being the one minority in the room full of people who have constantly rejected her because of attributes she was born with. And FYI- even if you don't cause pain, it's still assault. And any man who doesn't do anything about a love interest assaulting his mom is not very likable in my opinion.
I think i read about 90 prevent of this book hoping for depth but spoiler alert- there isn't any.
. . . Stars: ⭐⭐⭐⭐🌟 Hot: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 É uma leitura F(. . .), desculpe pela palavra, eu amei 🖤. . . Amei! . . Boa Leitura 😘
I loved Balthazar and Grant!! I wasn’t so sure of Balthazar when we first met him in Cornelius’s story, but he grew on me so very much!! He spent a lot of time with Cornelius and Matthew’s young son, Ollie. Balthazar just wanted to find his own One, his mate and have a family. Grant didn’t think he’d have a One, he thought he was broken, his magic was wonky! Fate has a funny way of working out when they meet, and they know who the other is to themselves. I loved these two so much. I so excited to read the next Amhurst Coven story. The story was well written and kept me glued to the pages, I could NOT put it down!! Sooo good!! I’m leaving a voluntary review from an advanced copy that I was gifted from the author. My reviews are solely based on my thoughts and opinions.
So this is the first book I’ve read in this series. But it’s the second book in the series. I didn’t feel lost at all but I will definitely be going back to read the first book because I’m hooked.
I loved how the author portrays this paranormal world. It’s original and unique and definitely like nothing I’ve ever read before. Bal and Grant have this amazing connection and I loved that we got to see how they built it right from the beginning. It has little to angst and it just the journey of their love story. I can’t wait for the next book in this series.
I received this book as an ARC reader and voluntarily giving my honest review
I’m not sure how I feel about this book or the first one. They are sweet stories - but some of the things the author describes - example from this one - someone using the bathroom - goes into pointless distracting detail. “A quick trip to the bathroom to relieve his overly full bladder” rather than asking if he can, and describing the actual going...and the bathroom....and the washing hands...and the towel.... it’s just distracting. And opportunities to increase depth of the characters is totally lost or glossed over. WHO in their right mind has NO conversations with EITHER parent for MONTHS outside of awkward social situations?
This was a new series/author for me and for the most part I really enjoyed this book. I think the thing that bothered me the most was Grant’s mother. She a bit too OTT for me. All in all, I really enjoyed this book and will continue reading this series in the future.
Wow! I was super excited to hear that Balthazar's story would be next in this lovely series after first meeting him in Cornelius's! Balthazar longs for his life partner to enter his life and to start a family, especially after seeing Cornelius with his! Grant comes along with his own set of baggage and fate starts to push these two men together. This is a must read if you love Taylor Rylan's story telling and are intrigued to know more about these two men's story! This is a great story to read on a fall day!
I loved Bal from the very beginning and then you went and added Grant to the mix? Lordy lordy lord was this the cutest.
It wasn't all snuggles and rainbows but the best books never are. It was sweet, chaotic and charming all in one.
I'm interested in what's to come next for our Amherst Warlocks and their Ones. I know with characters like Matthew and Grant I'll truly never get bored.
I definitely recommend this series, so far I find it completely charming an I'm absolutely one hundred percent, with out a doubt in love with it.
Awww! Such a great second book in the Warlocks of Amherst series. I love spunky Grant and how he mellows out his One, Balthazar. I'm really curious as to who/why Grant's powers were bound and I'm kind of hoping we find out in later books. All the returning characters added the perfect compliment to Grant and Bal's story (I'm really glad we got to catch up with mischievous fae, Matthew). Loving this series and I'm off to dive into the next book!
This is the story to read if you want straight-forward romance and no side-plots or mysteries. It is simply about two men falling in love with their 'One'. And that's great; it isn't pretending to be anything more.
I suspect that reading the other stories in this world may enrich and create greater investment in the characters. I just would have liked more depth and resolution
This is an enjoyable fated mates, instalove romance between the two warlocks Balthazar and Grant - who is a new member of the coven. Both of whom are such likeable characters with buckets of chemistry leading to lots of hot and steamy moments. Alongside their claiming story is the conundrum of why Grant has almost no powers. This is a no angst, sweet romance that was an enjoyable way to spend a few hours.
Balthazar and Grant.. one an neat freak and one an artist. Opposites definitely attract when these two singles meet at the new coven. Mix in meddlesome in-laws, a few secrets and surprises, add a dash of hot sex and there you have it... book two. These two warlocks share love and life as their story moves the series along. Taylor Rylan’s Warlocks of Amherst Series does not disappoint! Can’t wait to start book three!
A sweet, fun continuance to a series with 5 books out now and room for more. Not much angst, mostly insta-love. This series is best read in order; however, it appears there are other secondary characters from another series I am not familiar with but I will check that out next time I want to re-read this series as it would be good to know them but not necessary to read before this series - I'm just sure it would be entertaining as well.
Grant and Bal’s story is a wonderful way to express fated mates between warlocks. Except in this case Grant’s is wonky and unreliable and Bal is just to adorbs for words. I don’t want to give anything away but from the beginning you will fall in love with them and keep reading until you want more.
Sweet indulgence is one way to describe this book, and another is the most annoying characters I've read in all the series, but I really enjoyed reading it. Balthazar was my favorite character, he was a sweet grouch, and Grant was a little prickly but otherwise sweet.
An incredible story that I could not put down. Balthazar and Grant are wonderful characters who are just perfect together. An amazing read that takes you on a magical adventure as Balthazar and Grant find their way together. Sexy and emotional, the perfect combination. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book.
I truly enjoyed this heartfelt story. The writing was excellent and the characters were interesting if not a bit annoying (one of them). Grant was a warlock who didn't have his powers and Balthazar was his one. Together they've formed a beautiful relationship even while dealing with Grant's overbearing mother. The ending was sweet and I definitely found it to be very entertaining.
This was comical with Grant's mother. Balthazar was a Saint when it came to dealing with her. I love that he still treated her with respect when she was being "one of those" moms. It's unfortunate that there really are moms out there like this, lol. Glad they could overcome it all.
And I am back in the paranormal world created by Taylor Rylan. They are great books to breeze through when I want to read something quick with low angst. In this case there was a small conflict to right but there were a few things left unexplained towards the end. I am hoping those loose ends will be tied up in the next few books though.
I'm so happy Bal got his HEA. Grant was the perfect One for him. Their coming together was great. I was left with some questions at the end of this book, but it didn't take away from the overall feel.
