At Del Fantasma, Cody Warren's bar, anything can happen, especially love. When Shayne flirts with Cody, the bartender tells him there are several screws available. You see, what Shayne doesn't know is that Cody has a particular blend in mind, one that involves a shapeshifter named Leon who is just the right flavor for Shayne
During Sharon’s writing career she’s lived in a house with a Harry Potter cupboard under the stairs, shared a publisher with the creator of Roger Rabbit, and has taken a trip to Jupiter. Only one of these has been in her imagination.
The first short story she submitted — Silver Apples of the Moon — was accepted by Roadworks Magazine. The editor announced her as “a writer who is going places” and described the story as having “both a Sci-fi and horror element,” and being “strong on characterisation, and quite literary, in terms of style.” Subsequently, she was approached to write all reports and publicity material, including a piece for translation into Braille for The Really Wild Nursery and Arthritis Care Breaking Down the Barriers garden project, which took place at the Malvern Spring Show.
Since then, her work has appeared steadily in both print and electronic publications, such as Midnight Street, Aoife’s Kiss (Sam’s Dot Publishing), Night To Dawn, and Radgepacket (Byker Books). Her short story — Bitter and Intoxicating — was snapped up for inclusion in the anthology Red Velvet and Absinthe. This compilation, edited by Mitzi Szereto with a foreword by Kelly Armstrong, was designed to evoke the romantic ethos of classic Gothic fiction with a serving of eroticism. With a repertoire of twisted tales and a love of cross-genre writing, it surprised everyone (including herself) when she branched out into erotic romance. These works have been critically acclaimed and often described as ‘deeply passionate’.
Sharon’s worlds are vivid, unexpected and sometimes intensely magical. Sharon writes whatever her warped mind can come up with and is quite capable of writing something darker, grittier, and even outright twisted. Though her love for all things Myth and Legend has led her to write under more than one name, from 2019 she's using S.M.Bidwell for her Dark Fiction.
She was propelled into the Steampunk universe of Space, 1899 and beyond, winning approval of series creator and award-winning game designer, Frank Chadwick, with three books, one of which was co-authored with editor (and writer) Andy Frankham-Allen, and subsequently led to her writing for the Lethbridge-Stewart series, and a short audio story for Doctor Who, performed by Katy Manning.
She's also on Goodreads under the name Sharon Bidwell.
Shayne arrives to Del Fantasma Bar searching adventure. Sexual adventure. Voices say that Cody is a vampire and a matchmaker. And when Shayne asks for a Slow Screw he obtains Leon, a Slow Fuzzy Screw. Leon is all his name: a shape-shifter lion tired to be alone, who has asked to Cody to find him a companion. He has no specify a female companion, but he is not gay, so why Cody has settled him with Shayne? Sure the guy is cute, but sometimes Leon sees him more like a prey than a mate. Nevertheless he takes him home.
Sharon maria Bidwell manages to write a brief story with a very arousing sex scene. The uncertainity both of Shayne and Leon about this mating is a masterpiece. Reading the alternative thoughts of the two men make the waiting for the sex growing and when you finally read it, it's really a climax.
Both Shayne than Leon have a tormented past and they have to overcome their fears to build a future together. You don't know if they will succeded in doing so, but you will end this story with a hint of hope. And the certainity that Shayne has found the slow screw of his life.
Liking this book came as a big surprise, as I never saw shape-shifting as an interesting subject for myself. But in this story, the characters were great and the shape-shifting theme felt realistic and was handled very well. 3 stars for this nice surprise.
This is the second of the Del Fantasma novellas that I have read from Aspen Mountain Press. And I can tell you it won't be the last. "Black Wolf" was a hot story with a sweet romance about finding a life mate. This, however, is a hot story about finding a companion to share with, and worrying about love later.
Normally, I want my gay romance to be all happily ever afters. But, sometimes a dose of reality hits just the right key. That is not to say this has an unhappy ending. Just that the two men that come together aren't experiencing love at first sight. They have found someone to share their sorrow, ease their loneliness and maybe start to build something meaningful with. Shayne has always been attracted to "rough" men. He likes to be dominated, but there is a line between dominance and control/pain. And he always ended up on the wrong side of the line. Leon is all dominance, but there is a tender side to him. Only he doesn't know if he can trust himself not to harm those he cares for. He experienced something horrible in his past, just as Shayne has. When Cody, the owner of Del Fantasma with a gift for matchmaking, sets them up they are skeptical. But, Cody hasn't been wrong yet.
I really enjoyed this story because we got backstory about Leon's people (a special sect of weres), some depth of character for Shayne, a bit more about the mysertious Cody and, oh yeah, hot sex. Really hot sex. Shayne is more than meets the eye, and can hold his own in fight (having learned his lesson from being hurt before) but he's still vulnerable to the far more powerful Leon. This adds a touch of fear to their coupling that pushes it to the edge, but keeps it steamy rather than scary. These two men understand the real world and that happiness doesn't happen in an instant. They'll have to work for it, but that's what makes it worthwhile. I'll be reading more Del Fantasma, and more Sharon Bidwell. Highly recommended.
A Slow Fuzzy Screw is an enjoyable story which focuses on two men, who could not be more different, that find an unexpected commonality. Shayne has a past filled with abusive relationships, as he struggles to find a partner with both a dominant nature and inability to truly hurt him. Leon is capable of causing great harm, with a violent past that he fights to overcome. As the two men spend time together, they are surprised to discover that their desires and needs are met by one another.
The story focuses on two interesting characters, with equally complex backgrounds. Especially enjoyable are the flashbacks to Leon’s past, how they are interspersed throughout the story and provide insight to a complex character. The story concentrates greatly on the senses, in particular smell and touch. The descriptions provided for both Shayne and Leon create a powerful experience for the reader.
The Del Fantasma series is filled with fun and interesting stories, and this is another wonderful addition. Although it doesn’t have a happily ever after ending, the future will definitely be full of interesting possibilities for these two characters. If you enjoy shapeshifter stories, and want to read one that doesn’t include a wolf, definitely pick up this story. You will not be disappointed!
Rumor has it that Cody Warren, the bartender at Del Fantasma, has seen it all and is well known for his matchmaking skills. Shayne is in need of those skills and when he orders a slow screw he hopes to grab the man’s attention...

I really enjoyed this one. Leon’s is rather surprised with bartender Cody’s matchmaking choice, as he’d never thought his life companion could be a man. But Cody’s never wrong, so Leon decides to go with it and see where it leads. Shayne doesn’t know Cody’s reputation, nor does he believe the rumours that the Del Fantasma patrons are not truly human – well, that is until he meets Leon. This is a sizzling story about two lonely men who find that special connection. Ms. Bidwell has another instalment to this series, and I’m looking forward to reading it.
