Rise of the Iliri #4-6

The Rise of the Iliri: Books 4-6

Rate this book
WAR, HEARTBREAK, MORE WAR…AND UNBREAKABLE DEVOTION

Auryn Hadley overlays a compelling sci-fi action fantasywith an emotionally charged reverse harem romance, setting the heart-warming experience of everyday community against the heart-wrenching reality of war—and the loss it causes. The Terran emperor’s war to eliminate the iliri progresses, and Salryc Luxx has risen from army private to assassin to queen of all iliri. But the unthinkable has happened within her pack, and she must rise above unimaginable grief to lead the liberation of her people.

Always exciting, as well as sexy, and action-packed! Romance readers will thrill to the reverse harem idea that pushes the boundaries of epic fantasy in this groundbreaking series that may remind some of Avatar without the scary beasts. Fantasy readers may find it reminds them of Game Of Thrones, but happier, with more color. And fans of Anne McCaffrey’s Dragonriders of Pern will find Sal’s planet Ogun a thrilling destination for their next fantasy fix.

Each book is a complete novel, not a cliffhanger. And because the iliri have insatiable and exotic sexual instincts, this set may be unsuitable for humans under 18.

INSEPARABLE, Book 4
The intersecting worlds of the iliri, grauori, and humans collide when an alliance is declared, and the humans renege. In the midst of offering an olive branch to other races, they seem secretly hellbent on destroying them all—and they begin by putting Sal on trial and disbanding the Black Blades. Auryn Hadley offers up deft commentary on racism between communities—melded with fantastical action-adventure in a world at war, and passionate erotic romance.

True to its title, in Inseparable, on the world of Ogun, it’s the connections between all beings—human and otherwise—that will save or destroy them. It’s Sal’s unbreakable devotion to her tribe that keeps her alive—and the steamy interactions with her mates—old, new, and surprising—that keep the pages turning.

TENACITY, Book 5
A jarring emotional roller coaster, Tenacity tells the age-old tale of pure love amidst a struggle between good and evil—but with a heaping dose of the light-hearted. This one has plenty of laughs. And plenty of heartbreak.

Lieutenant Salryc Luxx and her elite Black Blades push forward to liberate an enslaved nation from the emperor’s reign of terror. But the battle’s not without consequence. Bombarded by the thanks of those she rescued, and the disdain of those whose families she could not save, Sal can’t sleep, she can’t eat … but she cannot stop fighting, either.

The Emperor is losing. He knows Sal’s responsible, and he knows exactly how to destroy her—go after those she loves most.

RESILIENCE, Book 6
Resilience asks how far mankind will go to protect their pride. Because it seems they’ll guard it at the expense of all else. In an epic tale reminiscent of a futuristic Lord of the Rings, it’s the iliri who must decide whether to risk their lives for the ungracious human race.

Salryc Luxx has been summoned to a meeting with Parliament representatives of the Conglomerate. This time, she’s neither slave nor prisoner, but the powerful leader of the iliri. As she struggles to submit to her destiny as their leader, she is inspired by her people’s trust in her and their desperate hope that if it is the iliri and their allies who manage to defeat evil, perhaps humans can learn to respect them.

A bitter sweet mix, and the h has to sacrifice again and again. She has suffered so much, and while she is becoming all that her people need her to be, she's the one who pays the highest personal cost. The story is so well written, a complex romantic fantasy with more than a little angst in these books. Great to see her pack grow with some surprising additions. Can't wait for the next installment - I don't want this to end.

This is where things really get heavy and deep. The game has truly begun and the players are finding their places on the board of life and death... and not everyone will make it to the other side.

In a sweeping epic such as this, the Hero's Journey is one that takes a road few others can walk, beginning from the dredges and rising to the highest of heights... before plummeting to the depths of despair once again. Here, in the middle, is where we crash into that despair, and it's brutal. ALL the books in this collection have their fair share of love and pain, yet Book 5 actually made me cry... even as a reread. I KNEW what was coming, and still I wept. Such is the power of Auryn Hadley's writing, and why I know I will read this collection again and again.

It's painful, it's beautiful and so very addicting.

Pros:
~A true Epic Fantasy with a solid helping of Sci-Fi.
~Beautifully written.
~The characters come alive and feel like friends... or enemies.
~Here, you really start to understand the Iliri.
~It's an exquisite pain, wrought from true emotional writing.
~Sal. Enough said. Just Sal.
~Over 1400 pages!!

Cons:
~It really is painful... and I mean it.
~Trigger warnings for Rape references and violence. This is not a 'con' for me, but should be noted.
~Minor editing issues.
~POV switches are not always immediately clear, but smooth none the less.

More

I want more!!! I read a lot and I thought Sarah J Maas was my new favorite until I read Auryn Hadley. I read all six books without stopping, barely stoped to eat and sleep. Being disabled I hunt for authors like this. I want to thank the author for putting the first three in unlimited or I wouldn't have looked twice. Hopefully I can find more by her on unlimited. Very good work Ms. Hadley.

Review of BOOK #4-5 | DNF on book #5, ch. 6:

There’s so many personal annoyances in this set (#4-5):

1. Sal becoming ‘best friends’ with Rayna🫤And we know that when authors create a best friend they want to put them on equal footing, so Rayna and the KING of Anglia “fall in love”-meaning more than likely Rayna will become a Queen🙄

2. Rayna justifying the Iliri eating humans. IDC it’s weird and she’s so annoying🥱

3. The fact that they’re allowing a 16-year-old to engage in bestiality?? all that sub species stuff is B.S 😐 IK I’ve read an alien romance or two but they weren’t fucking dogs okay?

4. Arctic and Shaden🙄 I understand wanting to cater to your characters and wanting to give everyone a HEA but it’s not necessary. You could’ve simply left it at Arctic finding a normal person without going into details. Like how she did Risk and Tilso. A whole new “important” person wasn’t necessary.😐

5. I hate when authors force “girl time”. Having close female friends is not necessary or always desired😭 Sal was doing perfectly fine with her distant relationship with female characters other than Roo 🫤

6. I got some spoilers about this series so I know that Blaec dies. I hate how Sal’s relationship overall was written with him. Not that he’s a bad person but they had some heavy differences/morals/values and the relationship felt forced 😐 you mean to tell me this girl could lead and guide an army or elite troops but couldn’t realize that she and Blaec weren’t compatible?🤨

7. Lots of people hate Zep but I like him and Jase for her. She hasn’t been as close with Jase as she was in the first set of books but I think that changes. I’ll never know because I’m done😗

8. Overall there’s too many relationships at this point in the story. I understand that the characters have friends but everyone doesn’t have to be so close. People still desire space. Yk

Awesome

I love this series! So many complex characters and it is easy to love each of them for so many different reasons. I don't think I could pick one favorite. These books broke my heart and made me rejoice! It rare for a story to captivate like this one does. Auryn Hadley is hands down one of the best authors I have ever read! Can't wait to continue Sal and her packs story.

Flippin’ Fantastic!!!

I have nothing but praise for Auryn Hadley’s Rise of the Iliri Series. I bought this box set obviously because it gives me 3 books that I can read back to back for a lower price.

This series is written so well, the characters are so realistic that I can imagine scenes being played out in my head. Auryn sucks you in, makes you fall in love with her characters and ruins you emotion, I have laughed, cried and felt rage reading these books, so be warned.

They are a sci-fi reverse harem series, slow burn by the way, that follows Sal and the Black Blades on their journey to Free the oppressed. There are mild sex scenes and each book ends nice a tidy no cliffhanger however they need to be read in order to get the full effect.

Resilience is book 6 in the instalment (only because I reviewed book 4 and 5 separately) it’s nice to see that the Black Blades mourn their brother throughout the book, obviously this was most upsetting in the previous book that I’m glad that you can see the group grieving in their own way and it doesn’t feel like they move on too quickly, they understand and remember. I liked how in this time of grief and negotiations for an alliance our characters still get a chance to remember they are alive and not let those that have given their lives up to be in vain. As tensions rise in the Conglomerate you can see the changes being made in humans and it’s not instantaneous it’s slow building, more and more people are moving to Anglia to better themselves, the Iliri people are becoming stronger and the Kaisae is giving them Hope to pull themselves out from under the thumb of others. War is on their doorstep and it’s time to pick up side and fight for freedom, the conglomerate need to realise if not for the Kaisae their so no country safe from The Emperors tyranny no matter what species they are. I really missed Roo, Raast and Rhyx in this book though.

I read books 1-8 in quick succession so am giving a review on the series, to date.

The world building is excellent. Humans colonize a distant world, low on metals and with indigenous life. Thousands of years later, the resulting society is one of basically medieval tech, but with ceramics and resin replacing metals. Very clever extrapolation and made more interesting with the integration of the indigenous life.

The series is both a Sci-Fi/Paranormal-esque epic adventure and a romance. The heat level of the romance rises throughout the series, not hitting 'erotic' levels until about Book 7 and starting relatively low, though all well written at the heat levels they're at. I mention this because this switch/transition may surprise some readers. At times, the balance between the epic adventure and the romance is off a bit, throwing off the pacing of the overall story, but not so much as to want you to stop reading - it remains engaging throughout.

The plot, and plot twists, of the epic adventure are well done, creating a well-crafted story that could stand alone, even without the romance. There are some quibbles around how the military is organized, specifically around unit sizes and organization, but unless you have a background in the area or read a lot of military fantasy/historicals you probably won't notice. The fight scenes are well done, even if all in the contexts of small skirmishes.

Overall, I'm thoroughly enjoying this series. It's based in a wonderfully crafted world and includes some amazing elements. It's only some nits about how these elements are put together that keeps this from getting 5 stars.

Wonderful series

First, this is NOT my favorite trilogy in the series, that would be 1 through 3. But I do still love it and have reread it 20+ times. There are a few series I enjoy reading over and over, but this one is head of the line, for sure.

Having said all that, Book 5 makes me cry. Every. Single. Time. It's worse than the break-up in Book 1. I won't tell you why, but just have some tissues or a handkerchief ready.

The sexy bits take a back seat to military happenings in most of 4 through 6, but by the end of 6, things are heating back up again! In 7, we get to see the heat that Syrik was holding back. Wow! No more hints, just know that sexy times are on their way back!

I think if you have read this far into the series, you will want to keep going. It is well worth your time to see what this crazy band of fighters gets up to once they really get up to speed.

Worth 9/10 Unicorns. 🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄🦄
Definitely re-readable, wonderful characters, a well-developed world, and a plot that may have been taken from today's newspaper! The ethics of messing with an alien but sentient species should be talked about well before we as a species run into one. What happened in this book was historically accurate, but completely unacceptable. Just because humans leave Earth shouldn't mean we leave our ethics behind. If nobody is watching, that is when sticking to your ethics is the most important, not the least. I hope the people who create guidelines for dealing with alien lifeforms read this series and take it to heart.

Emotionally Exciting and Brutal

I almost want to take back my previous 4 star review for the first box set. I only gave 4 stars because of book 2 and 3 and the lack of follow through for the intimate relationships.

But geez, Auryn makes up for it in these next three books. The romance and intimacy is nowhere near the focus, and is still a small part of the series, but these books give satisfaction and provide follow through.

The changes and horrors the characters experience in these three books are almost too much. I feel like whenever I read this series I have the movie version playing in my head. These books are so epic on a grand scale they should be a movie.

Basically, I’m more in love with the story, characters, and author than I ever thought I would be. I haven’t even started book 7 and I’m anticipating the audio version of this series so I can have my reread.

The amount of effort the author has put into this series? It shows with every page.

You will not be disappointed if you pick this up. Truly... the series just gets better and better.

#4 Inseparable

The various countries come together to form an alliance. The Black blades had proceeded the various envoys, under orders.
Off course the normal anti Iliri antisemitism is felt to be behind it.
Lots of drama, attempts to kill or dishonor the various Black blades.
It comes to a very climatic situation, where tissues may be needed for some.

#5 Tenacity

Yeah, a very blood thirsty episode. Plus one where a friend leaves, in a very traumatic situation. (Warning:Tissues may be needed)
The mystery guy that helped Sal, back in the days when she was being sold, makes himself known in a very forceful way.
We meet the Emperor, and find a very interesting characteristic of his.
Overall, these are just some of what this enthralling episode contains.

#6 Resilience

Sal has received a demand from her former homeland Parliament to come to negotiate an agreement, to fight against Terric, who were already over running CFC's territory.
Off course, it was always going to be difficult, with at least one of old adversaries still as a member of Parliament.
Sal wants to get as many Iliri free as possible, as well as honoring her word that she would assist, if asked. However, it is not a straight forward situation, as some had underhanded plans for their own gains.

AMAZING!!!!

This series is seriously amazing!!! From the world building, to the character development , just everything you could possibly ask for in a series. I'm a serious bibliophile myself and I read the first six books on this series in four days, I couldn't put them down for anything. This author has a way with telling a story that I haven't really seen before and it makes the whole thing seriously play out like a movie in your head. If your on the fence about buying it, or just scared because some of the ideas portrayed aren't what you're used to, I'm telling you to take a chance, step outside of your comfort zone, and I promise you will be seriously surprised and not in a bad way. Auryn you seriously go the vis girl keep these books coming!!!

Awesomest ever series. Must be read in order. If you like kick-ass heroines and alpha but submissive men, dystopian, sci-fi, paranormal erotica and books longer than 250 pages then this series is for you. I LOVE IT. I'm going to be sad when this series ends. I'm on book 7 in the series. I started the series on June 8. This book kept showing up in my recommendations from Amazon. I was kind of judging the book by the cover which is very ironic since this series is all about not judging people by the way they look. I read a few reviews and became intrigued. The book is described as reverse harem which just means that the heroine has multiple male partners. I HIGHLY recommend this series. It is so well written.

I can't get enough.

First I love that they have made 2 box sets of the first 6 books. I've been binge reading them all! I first read about Sal and Black Blades years ago. This week I picked up where I left off. Let's just say, thank goodness I'm on vacation. I've read 4 books in about a week.
My heart has been ripped out a few times btw. But it's slowing healing with everyone else. The story is so elaborate and Sal's world is amazing and sad. I've recommended book 1 to my husband. Because isn't your typical RH book. It's so much more. A whole other world. 3 different species. War. Espionage. Love. Trying to be who you are not what people want you to be.

One of my favorite series. Bar non.

Freaking awesome

I'm getting sad because I'm almost at the end of the saga. These books are addictive!

I will say, you might need to take notes, there's an influx of characters in books 4 and 5 and a lot of names and titles starting with the letter R. It got a little confusing for a bit trying to keep track of who is who and what. Especially when several of the black blades started getting called by their real names and not just their call names.

Having said that, these books are amazingly crafted. I'm totally enchanted and compelled to read more.

It all matters.

This Series is Magic!

I can't put this series down. I must know what's next. It's awesome to say the least. Auryn Hadley is one of the few authors that drags you into the story all the way. If it's raining in the book, you are wet. If it's arid, hot and dry, you are parched and hot as hell. You end up running through so many emotions, so many feelings, it's hard to describe. Just go with the flow because the feeling of satisfaction runs throughout. This author was new to me but I expect to have read everything she has written soon. Time to jump into the next boxed set, hooray!

Captivating! 100% Recommend this series.

I have finally completed all 11 books in this series. I have read over 100 books in the last 5 months and am an avid reader of reverse harems. Honestly not his is probably the best and most refreshing series I’ve read in the last 2 years! Auryn Hadley managed to tackle love, prejudice, war and sexuality in a way that can almost everyone relate in many ways. I was in love with this series from the very first book and although it was a longer series than most reverse harems it’s worth every single minute I spent reading. I’ve found a new favorite author and can’t wait to read her next series.

While I love Auryn Hadley I hate to cry in books. That said she has a way of making the emotional scenes balance out. I LOVE this series and can't get enough. I'll tell you that I will read anything Auryn writes from here on out because she has a way of drawing you into her world and fall in love with her characters. You will become connected to them and feel the good with the bad! Can't wait for more to be released, but thankful 7 is already out. After that....I'm sure I'll be desperate for her to write faster!

Another great read

I'm lucky that i came to the game late so I'll be able to buy book 7 straight away without delay. Auryn Hadley continues to world build in books 4-6 of the Rise of the Iliri's books. We find out more about previous background chatacters and see how each contributes to a wonderful tapestry of a story.
I'd definitely recommend this serise to anyone who likes stories with well rounded characters and an epic story arc of civil liberation of a species which has been a second class citizen on their home planet.

4.5 Stars. Really good, but I struggled with some of the content in book 5. Way to much description around the maerta for my taste. I get the why and all, but didn’t need the gory details of how. Just too much. I do love the timing of bringing Kolt into the story more. He’s a relief after the heart wrenching events leading up to his arrival. I love seeing the determination, love, and friendships developing throughout and the whole idea of each of us doing small things that cause ripples, and it’s up to us whether those ripples are for the betterment or detriment of others. It matters!

Still as good as GoT

Again, i have a box set, so can’t review books 4 & 5. My review for this set is pretty much the same as for the first set. Someone mail this lot to Benioff and Weiss.......STAT!
I wondered how on earth this storyline could be dragged out over so many volumes and not lose its bite, allure and all the other good stuff, and now I know how. It’s not dragged out, everything is pertinent to the theme/story and it’s so many other storyline’s all intertwined as well with clarity at all times. I highly recommend you keep following this history.

I love this series!

I am so glad I found this author and the spectacular world she has built in Rise of the Iliri. The characters she has created draw you right into their world.
I love how Ms. Hadley takes us through the minds of those suffering from discrimination and hate, showing us how easily those ideas are spread and taken for truth.
I love how she weaves Sal’s story around, into, and through each person she meets. I look forward to the next set and I am regretting already that I am nearing the end of this saga.

I'm very hooked!

Wow, another great set of the series. I always have a hard time with anything more then 4 books, I always lose interest. This series keeps me engaged and wanting more. A couple of times the dialogue lost me completely which I think needed more editing. Although it annoyed me, I kept reading on. I sure love a strong women characters. I'm so engaged with the characters that at one point I sobbed. It's always a good sign when your emotions get caught up in a great story. I hope they win and we get a happy ending. On to the ending series of books.

More romantic fiction than fantasy

Way to much romantic dialog for me,keep repeating same thing about relationships to just fill word count, might be great for some but not for me,didn't need to be reminded why characters felt about each other over and over again, got old and in the way of story, seems author had enough story line to make three books but spread out to six and seven, will not be getting seventh

Awesome!

Books 4 -6 are totally amazing. Each book drew me further into the story so deeply that I found myself interacting or reacting much as the characters in each situation they were involved in. Laughter, anger, fear shame , pride, and even the way they cared for each other. I would recommend this whole series to anyone who likes to get into a good story. An enjoyable Read. Bring on book 7. lol

Wow!

This series is heartbreaking, eye opening, beautiful, gritty, and simply amazing. I’ve never read a novel that is in the romance realm that touches on so many aspects of humanity, social injustice, and politics- let alone one that does so eloquently! Coming from an individual who is not generally into politics in her leisure activities, I think that really speaks for itself.

Continuation of a great story

Oh my goodness, what an emotional rollercoaster these three books were. I cried, I laughed and I got angry. I get so into these books and get lost with the characters in their world. This is truly a series you will not want to put down. I love how you don't get rushed through the story and have e tough descriptions and time to get emotionally involved in the story. Highly recommend.

LOVE This Series

We find out why Blaec doesn't link his mind as one with, Sal. Because his gift of being a prophet is one of the things that has kept the , Black Blades alive all these years in this war. Knowing everything Blaec knows, there's no way he could of hid all of the future, away from Sal. Having to carry all of the prophecies, constantly weighs heavy on him and is why he's always kept himself apart, from his family, at the same time being the leader of his family.
