Lovely Madness

Rate this book
A heart-wrenching, tortured hero romance, featuring a broken man in need of redemption and the lively heroine who sees through the madness to the man worth saving.

He was lost when I found him…

Everyone says that Cary Clarke, former rock star and reclusive music producer, is crazy.
That he fell apart after the death of his best friend.
That he shut everyone out and locked himself away.
That nothing matters to him anymore but music.

Maybe they’re right.

I don’t even know why he let me in.
I was only supposed to meet him once. But then once turned into so much more.
When I look into his eyes, there's just something about this man I can't walk away from.
And the deeper I get into his world… the less I ever want to leave.

Maybe I’m crazy to fall for a man whose heart is already broken.
Maybe I should’ve known this could only end in more heartbreak—for both of us.

But when you find something this precious in the darkness, it’s only natural to want to bring it out into the light… no matter what it costs you.

Good but not as good as some of the previous books I've read in this series.
Lots of back and forth angst between MCs. Kind of dragged on in a few places.
The book centers on broken guitarist/producer Cary Clark. How he deals with his troubled life and the woman who helps him through his trying times of dealing with anxiety and the loss of his best friend.
I do love Jaine Diamonds writing style and how she describes characters.
One of my favourite rock star romance authors. ❤

I’m really torn about this. I usually love everything Jaime writes and can’t wait for the next book to come out. But if I’m being honest, I wasn’t that crazy about this book.
The first thing that kind of seemed off setting to me was that this reclusive agoraphobic rockstar, who has barely left his house in five years is fucking his new assistant in just two days. That seemed unrealistic to me.
I didn’t have that insta connection with Cary or Taylor like I normally do with Jaine’s characters. I get Cary’s struggles. I think the anxiety and panic attacks was really well done. I like that the reason Cary opened up to Taylor was because of the words tattooed on her arm and what those words meant to him. I just thought they jumped in bed together way to fast. I think they had a beautiful story to tell first before sleeping together.
I’m also quiet upset about the hints and innuendo that there is something between Danica, Ash, and Matt. I loved Ash and Danica’s story and loved that he found her to be enough for him. I don’t like the idea of a three way with them.
As perusal the book ends on a happy note with everything tied in a neat little bow. This also seemed off setting to me, bc I don’t feel like Cary is miraculously healed by Taylor’s presence. We see some of his struggle and his overcoming, but in the end I feel like there should still be some of that anxiety. His life has improved but there are a lot of huge changes and anyone would be nervous about that especially someone with his past.
I always like seeing the Dirty family and seeing how they are growing.

Jaine Diamond has used every last drop of her massive talent creating this much anticipated next book in her Players series.  I have been soooo curious about this mysterious, shadowy character from a previous book, whose heartbreaking story is finally going to be told. Lovely Madness is a raw, gripping and very emotional trip deep into the mind of a man torn up by the past and the anxiety that shapes him, refusing to let go. Everything about his journey was so well written, engrossing, absorbing and difficult to stop thinking about.

Cary Clarke was an enigma- former rockstar on the rise, now a revered music producer- his life is all about perfecting the music, but he allows himself nothing more.  He avoids, ignores and hides away when his dark feelings emerge and take control.  Reclusive, unbalanced, strange and crazy- this is what people say about him, but are the rumors true?  I just wanted to hug him tight!

Every day is just like the one before it until BAM- Taylor Lawson drops herself into his self imposed narrow world like a stealth bomber, ready to infiltrate, one ray of sunshine at a time. Cary is instantly intrigued by her magnetic personality and he likes what he sees.  Her quirkiness, easy humor, kindness and the way she sees right into his soul are drawing him in.  Taylor Lawson had me hooked as well- she might just be one of my favorite of Jaine Diamond's leading ladies- what you see is what you get- strength, determination and empathy all rolled into a beautiful pink package.

Cary was not at all what I was expecting when he opened up- sweet, awkward, caring, really funny, gorgeous and super sexy.  All of that, along with his vulnerable, broken side made him a guy that I wanted to know everything about.  He was a work in progress but with one step forward and one step back, I wasn't sure what to expect next. The red hot chemistry between Cary and Taylor is there in all its glory and will surely steam up your glasses, if you're wearing any.  Their tenuous connection was scorching hot but would a relationship between the flirty social lady and the lonely home bound man work out in these circumstances?

One of my favorite things about Lovely Madness were the musical references that seemed to be everywhere, telling Cary and Taylor's story with songs was fascinating to me.  Players and Dirty sightings were popping up all over like a huge family reunion at times, so special for a long time lover of both series to get a major rush from seeing them all when you least expected it. Priceless!

This is a long book but I wished it could have gone on and on, even if Cary and Taylor wanted to put me through the wringer at times.  I floved the way things turned out for this couple who made the right choices for them and did not take the easy way to happiness.  Their HEA was all the sweeter for the detours and delays.  What a lesson in love and acceptance Lovely Madness turned out to be.

Honest review, freely given.

5++++ Stars

I was captivated from the prologue until the last page was turned. This is Cary's story from the Players series which has already delivered each book as a 5* rock romance.

This author brought out really intense feelings and dealt with mental health issues. Five years ago Cary was rocking his way to the top with his band Alive and his bandmate and best friend Gabe was there by his side helping him deal with stage fright...until he wasn't there anymore. He never would be again. That sent Cary over the edge and he feel down into that black hole.

Now five years later and a friend asks Taylor to help find an assistant for Cary who is now a recluse in his mansion working as a talented music producer. Cary wants Taylor to be his assistant and then the chemistry begins. Taylor takes Cary as he is flaws and all. She is sassy and vivacious and Cary isn't sure he'd ever be good enough for her.

I loved the rock and roll element throughout this whole book. The struggles seemed so real and my heart broke just hearing of Cary's trials. Taylor was the bright spot with her tenacity and loving nature. This author knew when to through in laugh out loud moments as well. These rockers and their ladies were hilarious at times. I highly recommend this book as well as the rest of the books in this series!! Rock on!

Cary Clarke a former rock star has had crippling agoraphobia since his best friend Gabe died, four years ago. Now he is a music producer and to help him out his sister arranges an interview with him for her friend Taylor who is an executive assistant. He is immediately intrigued by the girl with the pink hair and 'gimme shelter' tattoo and is reluctant to work with her but ends up hiring her. The two of them start to work together and Taylor challenges him to get out of his comfort zone and do things outside of the house, but Cary still suffers from his anxiety. The two of them sleep together and start a relationship falling for one another but when Taylor pushes him too far from his comfort zone Cary shuts her out and pushes her away, not only firing her but ignoring her also. The two of them miss each other for months and Cary starts to realize he can't stand the thought of Taylor being out there being made happy by another man.
He calls her and asks her to join him for an interview with his sister that he has agreed to but before that happens Taylor drunkenly breaks into his yard and the two of them reunite. During the interview he finally tells her everything about his anxiety and Gabe, his best friend's death. But she continues to push him to go the album release party for an album he worked on and is at first disappointed that he refuses to even try. Cary eventually does try to go to the party and to join another band and the two of them finally get their happily ever after.
I loved this book. As someone who suffers from social anxiety I could completely relate to Cary. I wanted so much for him to have a happy ending and learn he could work through his anxiousness. At times I sympathized with him so much I got annoyed by how hard Taylor would push him but in the end it worked out for the best. He realized he was good enough for her to be with and was able to get back out on stage and perform.

In Filthy Beautiful, we got a glimpse at the recluse Cary Clarke . Brother of Courteney, member of the band Alive, renound record producer, and complete shut-in who kept himself locked away from everything and everyone. He lives in a beautiful mansion, a prison of his own creation, shackled by depression and survivors guilt. In this book, we learn the circumstances surrounding his best friend's Gabe passing, the tragedy that led to the existence he now leads, and the woman who breathes new life into him.

"Just because I chose to be alone didn’t mean I wasn’t lonely."

As someone with several different diagnosed anxiety disorders, I felt deeply for Cary. His fear of the outside world and the overwhelming compulsion to lock it out mimic a dark place inside myself. The book brought to light the worst case senerio if I ever give up the fight and let it consume me as it had consumed him. He barricaded himself in an existence where he controls everything. Every human interaction, every aspect of life, every everything is in his authority. He never deviated, never stepping outside his self-made box, never letting the people who care about him that he cares about even have any real access to his life. He barely even leaves his studio, never mind his house.

"But there was so much more to Cary Clarke than the eccentric recluse people seemed to think he was."

Cary loves strongly. He's just not good at showing his love as emotions. He is more of the lavisher of gifts rather than effection. He cares passionately. He trys to take care of those around him. Making sure they are safe and protected, even if he has to do it from the shadows. He grieves deeply. Still holding onto his lost friend. Stuck in the hurt, loneliness, and self blame.

“And you know that because you Googled anxiety disorders and now you think you’re an expert or something.”
“I need to be alone right now. I don’t need anyone pushing me—”

Taylor means well. Her heart is in the right place, but she never knows when she is pushing too hard. For all the research she does on anxiety disorders and how to cope with them and treat them, she seems to have done zero checking on how to live with someone who experiences them. A little light pushing is ok but too much, and the person will shut down. She never takes no for an answer, never except his limits (that he is working on expanding), then feels guilty and mad when he shuts down and shuts her out. This is a common occurrence for family and friends of the sufferer. They mean well, but dont understand that a person can't "just get over it," "move on," or be pushed faced first out of their comfort zone and into their triggers. Diamond does an extraordinary job of showcasing these attributes, the highs and the lows, the wins, and the losses.

This book is not as "dirty" as the earlier books were in her Rock Band Romance Series. She seems to have found her perfect balance between plot and p*rn. Her characters have true personalities now. They have depth and a past while striving for their futures.

Dirty Like Seth and Dirty Like Zane were amazing reads and captured alcoholism to perfection. I will always love those books, but they don't hold a candle to Lovely Madness. This book touched me, changed me, and felt like it was written for me. It was personal. It hit home in a way few romance books have for me. Incredibly well thought out and written.

I have a soft spot for books that delve into mental illness, but only if it’s done well. And this was. Cary’s anxiety is exacerbated by poor parenting and tragedy. By the time Taylor enters the scene, he’s lost hope in ever having a normal life. But what is normal? Normal looks different for everybody. Normal with a new real illness looks different than normal without one. And I love that while Cary improves, and his life expands, they know it’ll take a lifetime to fight for normal.

Lovely Madness is a phenomenal, gripping read with its original storyline & uniqueness of characters that put me through a roller coaster of emotions. From heartbreak to swooning, from tears to laughter, and from despair to hope, this emotionally charged romance was so beautifully written that I couldn’t help but be immersed within the pages of this book.

As a hero, Cary's complex character is intriguing and unlike any other that I’ve read before. I adored him, but I also hurt for him as well. I positively loved Taylor. She is a vibrant heroine with a caring nature and demonstrates great patience and understanding. In fact, I would love to have just a drop of her patience! It is no wonder that she could be the woman to help heal Cary’s tortured soul. The two may seem like an unlikely couple, but together they are perfect.

At times, this was a heart-wrenching read, but there were also moments where I was ready to use a fire extinguisher on my kindle because the chemistry between Cary and Taylor was spectacularly intense. Then there were scenes I was howling with laughter at thanks to the antics of the secondary characters. If you’ve read the earlier books in the series (and even some from the previous rockstar series), then you will be thrilled to meet up with some of the favorite characters.

Lovely Madness is book 4 in the Players series and can, in theory, be read as a standalone. However, I do believe that the reading enjoyment of this book would be greatly enhanced if the previous novels were read. If you are looking for an enthralling rockstar romance with an intriguing plot and perfectly imperfect characters that elicits all the feels, then I definitely recommend this book.

I voluntarily read an early version of this book. All thoughts are entirely my own.

This book was long awaited and well worth that wait. From the beginning of the Players series, Cary and his story have been there and left us all wondering. Now we know. Taylor was the perfect fit and such a soft spirit in a strong woman’s body. My heat ached for Cary the whole book and I was heartbroken for Taylor when she leaves. At that point I was mad Taylor didn’t stand up for herself more, but ultimately I think the ability to “sense” that Jaine wrote into her character made Her decisions and actions seem the perfect ones in the end.

My favorite things about Jaine’s books were all here again: well developed characters, deep and meaningful backstories, smart dialogue and mental commentary, romantic and steamy scenes. As we’ve come to love, cameos from other books and series play major plot points (although the books can be read as standalones too). Also expected and appreciated are the sprinkling of hints for upcoming storylines that keep us guessing and wanting more.

Highly recommend and already desperate for the NEXT highly anticipated book...about Matt (I hope!)!

Is it me? Am I the problem?

Again, this is a book that started out really interesting. A rockstar who struggles with anxiety and stage fright. Interesting right? Wrong. This story picks up after Cary has been a recluse for five years, only leaving the house for occasional sexual release at a sex club. Enter Taylor. A pretty woman he hires as his live-in assistant. I got the attraction between the two - two beautiful people with a history of superficial and/or unhealthy realtionships living under the same roof. Absolutely they would hook up after two days. But that was the extent of the chemistry.

Very little happens in this book. There are a lot of mundane conversations and discussions about music. I usually read myself to sleep at night but this book put me to sleep. Even in the daytime when I was sitting up. I wish I was joking.

Lovely Madness is the fourth book in the Players series by Jaine Diamond, the queen of rockstar romance. You can read each book as standalone since it’s a different couple each time but I HIGHLY recommend reading the series. Cary has been in the background through the series, I got to know him a bit more in Filthy Beautiful. I love that he now has his own story...

Five years ago, Cary’s life changed with the death of his best friend and bandmate, Gabe. He was lost that day and every day after. He saw the stories about the rock star turned recluse. He knew his friends and sister cared about him but he kept them at arm’s length. He locked himself away in his mansion. In his studio most of the time. He worked. Music was the only thing that kept him going until she walked in...

Taylor was only supposed to meet her friend’s brother Cary as a favor. To find him an assistant. She had no idea what was going to happen when she got there. Would he even let her in the house? Was he crazy like others say? She didn’t know but if Courteney thought this was a good idea then she would try. And damn...he was intense. Hot AF and definitely a man of few words. He didn’t say much but when he looked at her, she felt seen. And she didn’t know it but he did too when she looked at him. Then he goes and hires her as his assistant...

I loved this story!! I can’t say much more without spoilers but I can say it’s addictive, raw, real, intense, and beautiful. I fell for the characters hard core and was rooting for them. I have anxiety. My daughter has anxiety. I get it. The way Jaine writes just sucks you in and brings out my emotions. I cried. I laughed. I got hot and bothered. I cried some more. It was badass to see the rest of the Players and Dirty once again. Btw, these rock stars are hilarious drunk. I can’t wait for the next book!!

Quotes:

Holy fuck, I liked my new boss.

“You guys are awesome, but I’m good. I’ve got this. I’m going full commando on this mission.”
“You’re not wearing underwear?” Xander said, and Courteney elbowed him in the stomach.

“Okay, if you’re trying to make me swoon, at least take me somewhere we can get naked first.”

To say this book was highly anticipated is an understatement, and the author did not disappoint. Jaine Diamond created a story that was pulling at those heart stings from page 1 and had you moved with emotion at each turn of the page.

We meet both Taylor and Cary in the previous Players books. Taylor recently hit a snag in her professional and personal life but is not one to give up. She was a wonderful heroine – strong, smart, strait forward and an independent woman with a kindness, patience and understanding that draws you in. Cary, who has had a profound tragedy hit his life, was trying to get by through focusing on work. The passion he conveys for his work and the times he feels anxiety has you wanting to learn more and be there for him.
These two were put together, almost by chance, and it was wonderful to see the instant connection they shared. The support Taylor provides was incredible, and you want to see them get their HEA.
Although this story is full of raw emotion and some sad parts, there were also plenty of laughs and happy tears throughout the book.

The author introduces the reader to multiple types of anxiety throughout this book in a way that helps you understand how difficult it is for people and how different it is for each person. There is not a one size fits all when it comes to dealing with this or when helping someone.

Lovely Madness is book 4 in the Players series and is set in the world of Dirty created by exceptional author Jaine Diamond. Although this can be read as stand-alone novel; I highly recommend you read both the Dirty and Players series to get the full experience associated with the characters of this book.

Again, Jaine just rocks it with they best drinking games ever, and her incorporation of music into the story is unparalleled.

4/5 🌶️

Lovely Madness is one of my all time favorite books. From the beginning of the Players series I couldn't wait to get to Cary's story, even more so when I found out he was matched with Taylor. Finding out the mystery behind who he is and watching Taylor bring him back to life was such a heartwarming and incredible story. I loved the mental health aspects, watching Cary overcome his fears was beautiful, especially since it felt so real with his ups and downs. Depression and anxiety comes in waves and this story really hit on that.

The connection with the music was incredible. All of Jaine's books have playlists and they all connect to them, but something just hit different with Lovely Madness. Cary is so intertwined with music, it's weaved within his soul, and in turn you feel it too. Taylor was as well, I loved when she talked about her vortex playlist and remembering exactly where she was and what she was doing when one of the songs played. The story behind Gimme Shelter was so good. Not just Cary and Taylor's connection to it, but when Cary was discussing the trivia about it. Even though the song doesn't come on the playlist until the very end, I listened to it right away and when Merry Clayton's voice broke I got full body chills. Anytime I hear Matthew Goode Band I think about this book, especially Indestructible. This is a playlist I listen to on repeat whether I'm reading the book or not.

This was my second readthrough this year and I already can't wait to read this series again (and again and again). Ashley, Xander, Ronan, Cary + Matt have stolen my heart and I'm not sure anyone is going to be able to take it back.

I'm just going to dive into this review, which is full of thoughts and reflections, and may not follow any order.

I loved Cary's character. He was very complex and layered. The author portrayed his anxiety and agoraphobia accurately and I could empathize with his struggles. I didn't connect as much with Taylor. I especially didn't like how pushy and insensitive she could be towards Cary with respect to his anxiety, and how she seemed to think he could be cured if he just tried harder.

I expected there to be more awkwardness between Cary and Taylor when she began working for him, especially considering how he acted during her interview. There was none, which I didn't think was realistic. Also, the author didn't get into Cary's head much after the initial interview, which was my favorite part of the story. In addition, Cary and Taylor fell in love quickly, which seemed unlikely given Cary's lack of socialization and tendency to avoid people.

There were also some information dumps that went on for paragraphs yet didn't move the story forward, such as Cary and Taylor's discussions about music.

I started out with such high hopes for this book and initially thought it would be a five-star. However, as the story progressed, I wasn't as impressed and felt the author really could have done more to explore the characters' flaws and challenges. I've looked at the author's other stories and doubt I will read any of them. Just story just fell short for me.

This is a 3 on a Ms. Diamond scale

I read this book and the previous one in two consecutive days. This book just wasn't as good as most of the stories in the Dirty music world. I have loved almost all of the books. This one and the last one were too long. They both bogged down in too many mundane things. They both have a bit too many self conversations. This one was far worse, though. Pretty much the only thing going on in this book was Cary struggling with his anxiety. I can relate. I have anxiety as well. I also didn't like that there wasn't as much time with the couples in the previous books are this series and the dirty series usually has. There was some. I did like that there was crossover between this book and the dirty characters near the end. There wasn't any of that in the previous book.

I also didn't feel the chemistry between Cary and Taylor. As a result, the steamy scenes were more lackluster. I think they were in general even if I had felt the chemistry between them.

So, now we're down to Matt, but that's what I thought at the end of the last book, too! I hope he gets someone new. I love little sister romances but the Dirty world has had enough of those now.

Another great book from Jaine!
Why not 5* stars? i just couldn’t stand those hints about Ash Danica and Matt. Don’t see what was the point of releasing bonus epilogue of Ash and Danica
wedding if Matt comes in the middle? Makes no sense to me. I really hope it’s one of Jaine’s way to mislead her readers!
I really enjoyed Cary and Taylor’s story-intriguing,touching ,gripping story that gives you all of the emotions.I laughed and cried, and my heart broke for Cary and everything he had been through, but he copes the only way he knows how, by cutting himself off from the world, and focusing on his work, music is his passion. I loved Taylor. She is a strong, independent woman, who is smart, straight to the point, with a caring heart. The chemistry between these two characters was apparent from their first meeting, they had such an instant connection.

Gosh, I want to applaud the way the topic was handled very well. It just dragged a bit and I could easily of put down. It just seemed Cary was enjoying his condition. Seriously, I had agorphobia and I hated how it made me center of attention with my condition. I wanted help to not be that way.

So if there had been some way to move Cary's refusal to seek further treatment...even after the months apart...then it would be 4.5 stars.

Lovely ending as once he sought proper treatments he could enjoy life properly.

Lovely Madness is the highly anticipated fourth book in the Players Rockstar Romance series and it is Cary’s story. Jaine Diamond has created a story that was pulling at your heart strings from the start and has you rocked with emotion at each turn of the page. I’ll be honest, my heart was breaking for Cary by the time I finished the prologue.

𝙏𝙝𝙚𝙣 𝙄 𝙬𝙖𝙡𝙠𝙚𝙙 𝙤𝙪𝙩. 𝘽𝙪𝙩 𝙄 𝙬𝙤𝙪𝙡𝙙 𝙖𝙡𝙬𝙖𝙮𝙨 𝙧𝙚𝙢𝙚𝙢𝙗𝙚𝙧 𝙝𝙞𝙨 𝙡𝙖𝙨𝙩 𝙬𝙤𝙧𝙙𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙢𝙚 𝙖𝙨 𝙄 𝙨𝙝𝙪𝙩 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙙𝙤𝙤𝙧.
“𝙄 𝙡𝙤𝙫𝙚 𝙮𝙤𝙪, 𝙗𝙧𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧,” 𝙝𝙚 𝙨𝙖𝙞𝙙.

As a hero, Cary is a extremely complex character; he is hauntingly damaged and beautiful, he is intriguing, misunderstood and, at times, profoundly tragic. My heart broke for him, and you can feel his pain coming off the page, his character was so well written and I utterly adored him from the start.

𝙄’𝙙 𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙜𝙤𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙣. 𝙄’𝙙 𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙜𝙤𝙩𝙩𝙚𝙣 𝙬𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙞𝙩 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙩𝙤 𝙬𝙖𝙣𝙩 𝙨𝙤𝙢𝙚𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙨𝙤𝙣𝙨 𝙩𝙝𝙖𝙣 𝙨𝙞𝙢𝙥𝙡𝙮 𝙣𝙚𝙚𝙙𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙥𝙝𝙮𝙨𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡 𝙧𝙚𝙡𝙚𝙖𝙨𝙚 𝙤𝙧 𝙖 𝙙𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙖𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙤𝙧 𝙩𝙤 𝙖𝙨𝙨𝙚𝙧𝙩 𝙨𝙤𝙢𝙚 𝙞𝙢𝙖𝙜𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙧𝙮 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙧𝙤𝙡.
𝙄 𝙝𝙖𝙙 𝙣𝙤 𝙘𝙤𝙣𝙩𝙧𝙤𝙡.

As for Taylor, positively loved her! She is strong, caring, patient, sassy and vibrant.

𝙄 𝙬𝙤𝙣𝙙𝙚𝙧𝙚𝙙 𝙞𝙛 𝙨𝙝𝙚 𝙝𝙖𝙙 𝙖𝙣𝙮 𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙖 𝙝𝙤𝙬 𝙟𝙚𝙖𝙡𝙤𝙪𝙨 𝙄 𝙬𝙖𝙨 𝙤𝙛 𝙝𝙚𝙧 𝙛𝙧𝙚𝙚𝙙𝙤𝙢. 𝙃𝙚𝙧 𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙚𝙣𝙜𝙩𝙝.

You meet both characters in previous books, and at first I thought they’d be an unlikely couple, but together they are perfect.

The beauty of the characters left no argument that Taylor was the perfect woman to help heal Cary’s tortured soul.

Lovely Madness really tackles the importance of looking after your mental health, as well as addressing serious conditions such anxiety, panic attacks and agoraphobia in a way everyone can understand and relate to. The amount of research and detail that went into this particular story was amazing. Jaine treated the topics at hand with great respect and love.

As with all of Jaine’s books, music was a huge part, and Lovely Madness featured an incredible, eclectic range of music from Dolly Parton to The Rolling Stones, the corresponding playlist to the book and character Vortex playlists are outstanding. The amount of detail and dedication about the featured music that was written in this book is unlike anything I’ve ever read before, I was blown away.

Lovely Madness is absolutely phenomenal. You are gripped from the start, it is beautifully written, has an incredible original storyline and perfect characters that put you through a roller coaster of emotions, broken hero in need of redemption and the lively heroine who sees through the madness to the man worth saving.

Throughout the book I felt everything from heartbreak to swooning, there were tears and there was laughter. I was so utterly moved and enraptured by the book that I didn’t want it to end, by the end of it I wanted to sit down with Cary and drink copious amounts of coffee as we discuss music, and then have a girls night out with Taylor. As soon as I finished, I knew that this would be a book that I would go back to time and time again, without doubt my favourite of Jaine’s books and one of my favourite books, period.

Lovely Madness is a stand alone, but I recommend starting with Dirty Like Me and reading the Dirty and Players series from the start.

‘It’s a lovely madness, isn’t it...falling in love with a rockstar.’

I love this world, this series, and this book! I wasn’t sure if I would from the glimpses we’d seen previously of Cary, but he turned out to be such an interesting and complex hero.

Taylor is Danica’s quirky and free-spirited best friend who’s worked as an executive assistant for years. She agrees to meet with Courteney’s reclusive brother, Cary, to help hire him an assistant. Cary is a former rockstar on the rise and current producer of the Players new album who experienced a tragic loss five years ago and since has cut himself off from the world in an attempt to have some control in his life. His family, friends, and colleagues worry about him but are at a loss for what to do. Taylor takes the job as his assistant and sparks fly. She’s able to reach him in big and small ways others can’t, even when he doesn’t want her to, but is it enough? We get to follow along for their sexy, beautiful, and complicated love story to find out.

When I saw the length of this book I worried if it would be a little much, but it was just right. Things moved along at a great pace, and went into the right level of detail and history to keep you engaged.

I loved how Jaine was able to articulate the complexity of managing (or not managing) your mental health issues, and how difficult and delicate it can be to know the right way to love and support someone with those issues without becoming an enabler. It can be completely draining and take everything from you if you let it, and we see that reality through Taylor’s eyes. There was also a good mix of romance and some ominous foreshadowing that helped build up the tension. You could feel the darkness coming, but it was subtle and only got overwhelming when it was meant to.

One of the very best things about this series is how deep we dive into the music world, and this book was no exception. There’s a great balance of information on the industry, historical context on the songs and albums, and general passion (obsession?) for music. Lovely Madness took all of this to a new level, and the music was essential - like its own main character. The story would be incomplete without it. I listened to so much music while reading this book and finally created my own vortex playlist.

I don’t cry often when reading books, but this one got me a couple of times at the end when quotes or songs from difficult times were tied in with the HEA. Jaine’s ability to tie these details perfectly together from different points throughout the book is really satisfying. It was such an emotional read; deliciously heart wrenching in all the right ways.

Overall, fantastic and I highly recommend. Can’t wait to see how the Ash/Danica/Matt situation plays out in the last book!

Gimmie Shelter from Authors Thinking Anxiety is a Crutch that Must be Cured

This was an interesting read and I looked forward to it. Oftentimes I search for romance stories that depict anxiety, mental illness, shyness, disabilities, etc with main characters so this was an easy get. However, as the story progressed I realized this was heading into territory that made me feel uncomfortable with the direction of the storyline.

From an extreme introvert perspective, this story is started to have a little bit of ick:

😬 the idea that the MMC who suffers from extremely debilitating anxiety/recluse is a problem because he doesn't hang out at bars.
😬 the MMC is broken because he prefers to stay a music producer and not a musician due to his stage fright and anxiety.
😬 he's a puzzle that needs to be fixed because he doesn't have a lot of friends and doesn't spend time with them outside of the house

So I knew this book was about fixing him to get back on the stage and realize the emptiness of his life.

Even though this book didn't work out for me there were shining moments:

✨ The main characters were sweet and great with each other. I liked Cary and the FMC was capable, strong, and patient.

✨ some hot scenes even though I was looking to see more dominance just based on how Cary discussed his k!nks

✨ It was nice seeing the other characters in the series. It felt like a complete world.

✨ Music education sections were a nice break in the story

👎🏾 the story felt detached in writing. A coolness that lacked overall passion

👎🏾 by the end, I wished things unfolded a little bit differently. That it doesn't appear as if a person is broken if their social anxiety causes them to detach from social situations. There were moments, I wished Cary found himself a good Pisces or Virgo introvert and be homebodies together 🥴. Someone who healed him but still recognized that it's ok to exist in a space separate from social interactions. In the end, I wish authors didn't treat anxiety and shyness as something that must be fixed.

I had to come back and write a review

I'll be honest, I haven't been very impressed with either of the Dirty or Player follow up books in the series. The first books are always five plus stars but " for me" , the majority of the books in the series seem to lose whatever it was that was so great about the main character when they were originally introduced. I can't explain it. I loved Jessie's and Brody's stories but not so much Jude, Dylan or the Seth/Elle story. I could of wept after Zane was talked up so much as a bad boy only to finally get his book and not encounter ANY bad boy antics. I guess I simply expected more after all the hype. I mean, I loved Maggie and her backstory but it felt like there was 80% Maggie and only 20% of the title character Zane in that book. Why do I keep reading this author you may ask? I like how she weaves a story and the characters that she creates, just not always the direction that she takes them. Enough of this. Ash's book was fire. Xander's story was annoying because of the heroine's immaturity. DJ Summer's book was hot, not fire but redeeming. Lovely Madness made me Love Jaine Diamond all over again. There was substance, there was emotion, there was enough character development to make me care. It FEELS like this one, like the first Dirty book and Ash's book, was a labor of love. OMG! Who wouldn't read this story and cheer Carey on? I'll keep reading because this author's hits definitely make up for all of the misses.

Wow. This was a tough book for me. I have struggled most of my life with anxiety and panic attacks that have led to phobias and mild agoraphobia. I was worried it would trigger panic attacks and while I did have mild anxiety after finishing the book it wasn’t bad and I’m super glad I read it.

This is an amazing story. Why? Because the author’s handling of Cary’s condition and reaction to what happens around him was nothing short of realistic. I was expecting the HEA to be one where he was magically cured. Nope. She handled his path to HEA with realism. I appreciated this SO much.

If you have never felt the intense affects of panic attacks, phobias, or agoraphobia, you cannot truly understand just how it over writes your system. In those moments are the worst feelings of fear and impending doom or death, while knowing nothing is truly threatening. These were all present in Cary’s struggle.

The people around him also related to him in the different ways people relate to someone with Cary’s behavior. It takes a strong and dedicated person to stick around and Taylor was definitely this.

I loved seeing the progress of the Players through recording, releasing, and going on tour. It made my heart so happy that Cary agreed to join them full time and was able to perform and tour.

So, so much about this book I loved from the heartache, frustration, and healing to the love and support. I’m a fast reader but this one I had to pace myself because it brought out so many different emotions.

Jaine Diamond Delivers Another Hot Romance

If you are a fan of Rock 'n Roll, want a well written book with great characters, hot sex and well structured flowing storylines, Canadian author Jaine Diamond delivers! AND she gives great PLAYLIST!!

The brilliant music producer Cary Clarke does not venture far from his home studio. Why? The past is only part of the story. Stage fright, agoraphobia crippling anxiety are heavy burdens to carry for a gifted musician!

Tracey Lawson, a sweethearted music lover and people person, has drifted from job to job and had her share of bad relationships. She's asked by Cary's sister (remember Courtney Clarke from Filthy Beautiful? ) to be his new personal assistant.

Lovely Madness is Cary and Tracey's story. Can she be his salvation and pierce the walls of loneliness and despair that surround him? Can she survive that Lovely Madness?

Their story is well balanced and provides enough humour and practicality to lighten the heavier topics. As their story unfolds we are provided with some wonderful insights into the music world thru Cary's memories. His dialogue make Dirty and Players real!

And did I mention the PLAYLISTS? They are devine and add dimension not only to Cary and Tracey but all the characters in any of Jaine Diamond's books.

Lovely Madness is book #4 in the Player Series and can be read as a standalone. BUT do yourself a favour and read them all !!

This story is about Cary. We met him in Xander's book, but he is very reclusive. This story goes back to why before that was the case. Cary is very eccentric, as you read in the first chapter of this book. This book gives the reader a deeper dive into Cary's mental and emotional problems. He is shocked when Taylor comes into his life. Of course, they fall for each other, and things are still weird, but they both seem happy. Till a fateful day sends it all downhill. This part of the story was heartbreaking and super sad. Taylor doesn't do well, and it shows.
The reader doesn't get Cary's perspective the entire book, but it does shift back and forth without interruption. As things come to a precipice, Cary realized with some help from Ashley that he misses Taylor. He also admits he needs help to fight his issues. Taylor is super brave and stunned me with some of her choices and actions. Things get better between her and Cary, but of course, now that his issues are transparent, she doesn't give up on him. He does start to overcome and make choices to live instead of hiding.

This book isn't the typical romance, but it deals with a lot of Cary issues. I loved watching Cary overcome his problems. I also loved how strong Taylor was in the face of those issues. She makes some hard choices and hard pushes, but it results fantastically. Don't be surprised if you are in tears reading this. It is an emotional book.

I feel in love with the Dirty Series but became obsessed with the Players Series. I knew Cary’s story would hit me in a personal level. I knew I would fall for him. I knew Jaime Diamond would leave me in love. What I wasn’t prepared for was the pure gut-wrenching emotion I felt. The empathy, the fear the anxiety, the pure love and frustration - I would set the book down to breathe myself!

Knowing Cary couldn’t (and wouldn’t) accept an easy leading lady I was anxious to see if Taylor would play into his wishes, if she would placate his fears and boundaries like everyone else or if she would challenge him. I was not disappointed. What I loved most about Taylor was she respected Cary’s anxiety and boundaries - but also challenged him to break free of them without asking him to forget about them. Her research and willingness to research, ask questions and listen truly made me cheer for her.

But don’t get me wrong, this book had so much more to it than addressing Cary’s mental health. The rock and roll, parties, steamy sex and humor are all interwoven beautifully. As you cheer for progress, you also pray you’re not near the end. You want that happy ending...but never want this story to end. One day - I couldn’t walk away. One full day of Cary, Taylor and The Players. 5 stars and wishes for the next book to drop SOON!
