Your Words is a small collection of poetry with a story in the mix. Louise Belanger wrote this during the Covid pandemic, which I think is an admirable way to deal with the stress and loneliness. She includes her photography in this collection. Not every photograph connects to the poem it’s placed with, but I do love her nature photography.

I love poetry! I love the way a poet can condense a feeling into a short passage (as compared to a novel or short story). I love how poetic elements can blend together to create magic. I love free verse just as much as sonnets and other form poetry.

All that being said, most of Belanger’s poems feel more like diary entries than poetry. That can happen when a poet is using free verse. Even free verse has a more poetic feel to it than a diary entry though, so I do wish some pieces had been more developed with imagery and symbolism. She has a tendency to tell a reader her themes, instead of showing them, which left me feeling a bit unfulfilled at times.

There are some poems that stand out because Belanger did use more poetic elements. My favorites were: “And I’ll run up the hill!,” “Feliz dia mama!,” “Feliz dia dia pais! Feliz dia del padre!,” “Give me a pure heart Father,” “Two Candles,” “All Aboard!,” “Walk towards the Light,” and the story “The yellow caterpillar and the tiny mouse.” All of these had beautiful elements to them - imagery, symbolism, themes that resonated. Her faith is strong and it definitely shines in her work. In an age when faith isn’t necessarily valued by all, I appreciate her honesty and bravery.

Your Words was a nice way to spend my Sunday morning.

I am not a poetry aficionado, but I can tell you this...the very first poem in this book gave me chills.

This book is filled to the brim with very easy-reading poetry, primarily dealing with the author's, Louise Bélanger, faith, her fears about the pandemic, and her excitement to overcome. It's beautifully poignant and also includes some of the most stunning pictures I've ever seen...all captured by Louise.

Although each of the poems (and a couple micro-stories) was absolutely lovely, I think my favorites were I will again..., And I'll run up the hill!, ¡Feliz día mamá!, Different that way, and Power in life.

If you're looking for something inspirational and deeply comforting, I highly recommend reading the lovely words you'll find within this book. Frankly, it was just what I needed today.

This is a lovely book of poems and a short story. It is heartfelt and inspiring. My favorite is Go where God guides you instead. There are also beautiful photographs. As a person of faith I appreciate the sentiments. I think anyone will relate to the feelings expressed in the poetry regarding the pandemic.

This poetry book is accompanied by beautiful photographs and primarily speaks to the author’s thoughts about the current pandemic, struggles in life, and her relationship with God. There are also some lovely story poems about nature. Although I enjoyed all of the poems, I see enough daily in the press and on social media about the pandemic, and I don’t want to read about it in my free time. However, I know others will feel differently about that.

The poem Power in Life spoke to me. It asks the question: “How can life go on when I’ve just experienced this crushing loss?” Having lost my Mom this year, I definitely can relate to that. I also enjoyed “A Life With You, Now and in Eternity.” This is about the sacrifice of Jesus Christ for our sins.

The photographs are well done. I have only seen the Kindle version, but there is a paperback version available, and I’d love to see the photos in the book, instead of just digitally.

The author’s style is warm and embracing, and she shares her faith in a loving way. I would read her poetry again.

I picked this book up on Kindle Unlimited, where members can get a digital copy for free. My opinions are my own.

Beautiful Words In A Time of Need

This is a wonderful little book of poems. In the author’s own words in a great time of need. The author has written these beautiful words during the Covid-19 pandemic of 2020. Such a time of heartache and depression and stress, but she lets it all out through her pen in the words of her poems. If you like poetry, I believe, you will love this book. And if you’re finding it difficult living through this pandemic, I believe, this little book will help lift you up. It sure did myself.

“I will again”

I shall not be writing a conventional review of this collection, that simply feels like a rather disingenuous thing to do, given the very personal connection between the author and her words.

It is not like a fiction novel, a story with a beginning, a middle and an end, which needs to capture a reader and have them invest in the storyline and characters.

Neither is it a non-fiction true story, or a book designed to teach a skill or hobby, where the reader will have a pre-conceived expectation of what they want the book to achieve for them as an individual.

Poetry is a uniquely personal collection of thoughts, which takes you, as the author, on a journey in your mind as you consign your words to the page, then decide whether they are simply a series of random thoughts, or if you are going to set them to the ‘beat of the music’ which you have in your head as you write. You have no expectation or pre-conceived idea of how each of your readers is going to interpret your words, what feelings those words might engender in the reader, or what thoughts those readers are going to be left with when they have closed the final page – and to be honest, do you really care and should you really care? as the words are yours and yours alone!

As an occasional reader of poetry, I am probably not going to engage with every poem I read, in fact sometimes, it might only be one poem in a collection which stands out from all the others and ‘speaks’ to me, at that particular moment, in that certain way. When I revisit the book, sometimes not for many days, weeks, or even months, it might be a completely different poem which has that unique effect on my emotions and psyche, depending on my mood at the time.

It may not even be a whole poem, maybe just one individual verse extracted from a poem, or even a single sentence, which has the power to move my emotions, ease my mind, or stir my spirit, right there, right then. For me personally, poetry hones the senses as I read, in much the same way as music does as I listen to it, and a work of art can the longer I sit and gaze at it.

This is a collection which often reflects the author’s connection to her faith, which of course, I fully respect, especially during these uniquely troubled times we are currently battling through, each in our own individual way. Although their passion for God may not entirely resonate with me in quite the same way as they do the author, the essence of many of the individual poems perfectly reflect my own thoughts, insecurities and feelings at this present time. Many of them also make for ‘comforting’ reads right now.

I read the collection in a couple of hours, in a single sitting, so to rationalise my thoughts I decided to make a list of the poems as I went along and mark those which particularly made me stop, think, then read for a second time – for today only! I tried not to be swayed solely by the lovely photographs which accompanied each piece, so when I looked back on my doodling, I found that I actually had three pieces which had not only caused me to read them multiple times, but where the image had caught my eye as reflecting the words it accompanied, Walk Towards The Light; Go Where God Guides You Instead; and The Yellow Caterpillar And The Tiny Mouse, the last of those also making me smile, which in itself is a rare event in these troubling times!

I’m sure your journey will be completely different to my own, unique and individual – just like us!

Tomorrow is another day and my perspective may have changed completely by then!

Louise writes from her heart, and this volume reflects her thoughts and fears brought on by the COVID Pandemic and how she trusts in God to get her through each day. I found most of her photos to be exceptional and while I don't share her faith exactly, I respect it, and I did find two of her poems that I especially liked.

The first one is titled "Two Candles", and the imagery she created with her words was so very clear to me. I could just see the candle wax puddling as the wicks burned down, and then flaring up again when they were once again reunited.

The second poem is entitled "Seasons", and this stanza really struck home as I have felt its truth, the pain and the sorrow of its inevitability. The swirling through the seasons of this dance of life...

There are also these friends that God gave me at different seasons
That journeyed with me a short time
I wish they would still be twirling
I miss them
I miss spending time with them
They had to take a different road than mine
They had to take a different path in life

The book is inspiring, and full of both faith and hope... certainly two attributes we all could use a good sized dose of.

This review is a work of love and praise in progress.

Written during the beginning of the pandemic, the reader knows right away how painful that phenomenon was for our author.

But yet many of her poems are inspiring as they emphasize trust in the Lord.

I especially liked the following three poems and have included quotes from each:

Give me a pure heart Father

"Show me all the rocks to be removed So You may flow through me"

All aboard

"But there is a trip I don’t want to miss So I got my ticket I got it many years ago"
My comment: Jesus bought the ticket to heaven when he died for my sins

Keep and give

Keep what God has given you, give it away as well. The quote that touched me most:

"Keep accepting God’s forgiveness when you ask Him Give forgiveness to others to lighten their burdens"

Thank you Louise for sharing your thoughts. Keep them for yourself; you have given them to me too.

I was very impressed with Louise Belanger's beautiful book of poetry, 'YOUR WORDS'. Sandwiched between 'I will again' and 'Something had begun', two thematically linked poems, her words are well-written.
In 'The cherry tree' she speaks of autumn, when "the leaves, suddenly free, enrol for flying lessons with the wind", a lovely image.
In 'Everything belongs to You' she speaks of God directing her pen so that it is God's "ink that flows", His "ideas that get birthed" in her head.
'YOUR WORDS' is wonderful.

God speaks in different ways. Amazing!

I got to download "Your Words" on the promo day from the author. I am so glad I did! As a lover of the art of photography, not only did I enjoy viewing the pictures (especially the flowers); I also like how the author poured out her heart on paper. Reading the poems felt so real, as if the author was in ones mind. She literally put into words what many would like to say or are looking for the right words for - especially in these trying times. Well done!

This is an earnest, heartfelt book of poems that feel like modern-day psalms. Louise doesn't hide the pain she has experienced or her anger at the pandemic, but running throughout the book is a clear thread of hope. Even though we are going through some dark days, she has faith in her Creator to see things through. The book is also beautifully illustrated with numerous photographs of flowers. If you're looking for something to pick you up, or you know someone who does, this book is a great option to consider.

Truly A Spiritual Journey
In the midst of a pandemic and personally experiencing its impact, the author went deep within to express her many feeling about life through poems and stories and picures. Her spirituality and faith in God is shining throughout the book. Her book is challenging, but worth the time to reflect on how she came through perhaps the most difficult period of her life.

“From Your hand to mine You flow through Words You already had arranged”

“When all you do is put out fires instead of building You will keep running with water in your hand”

“I will again...dance to music with no care in the world! I will again...”

A beautiful collections of poems, a story, and photographs. These were written in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic so you can feel the pain and isolation in Louise’s words...words that could easily be our words too. I was reading the Psalms the same time as Your Words and there are similarities in the pain, the questioning, but most importantly, the praise and celebration of God. Good poems conjure up emotions and Your Words will do that. Well done, Louise!

I received this book courtesy of the author in exchange for an honest review.

This is a beautiful book of poetry that touches the soul in so many ways. The author’s strong faith shines through in each poem and short story with gentleness and hope, especially in emotional poems about sickness, seclusion, death. Her love for nature does so much more than paint an intricate picture in your mind. Through an unbelievable photographic talent, she captures beautiful images for your eyes. I lost a loved one this week and searched for the perfect poem to read at the service. I found it in, Through Me. The book is inspiring, extremely well written and I highly recommend it.

Your Words is a book of poetry by Louise Bélanger. The poems are dated during the beginning of COVID-19, and each one relates the emotions the author experienced while writing them. The poems are written in the English language, but in the ones that involve another language, an English translation is provided within the line. The poems are accompanied by pictures and reflect feelings of grief, separation from friends, and loss.
Written during the pandemic in 2020, Louise Bélanger’s poems detail the scale of emotions many people felt at that time. Wonderfully penned from a Christian perspective, Bélanger gives the credit of her work to God and shows the beauty of his creations through her poetry. The stanzas are detailed, and the wording embraces readers as they absorb the author’s isolation, yet she is hopeful as remembers God’s scripture. The poems engage the reader’s senses, as the author discusses war and racism by speaking about the vibrant colors in a breathtaking field of flowers. Grief, loneliness, and loss of friendship were addressed and beautifully referenced in the flowing script. This book of poetry would make a wonderful gift to readers who are struggling with enforced seclusion, as the words relate to them on a personal level. Even though the poems were written during the pandemic, their message extends into the present. Your Words may be viewed as one woman’s testimony during a difficult time in her life, and the book could touch the hearts of others with its conversational wording and powerful message.

What a lovely book!
Louise Belanger has a definite gift for capturing the beauty in nature through her photographs. All of them are beautiful, but the way the sunlight hits the flower close-ups is breathtaking. And I have to be candid in saying that some of her poems brought tears.
My favourites were:
And It Needs It Now
Go Where God Guides You Instead
I Will Tell You When
Walk Towards the Light

And I love the cover!

I had the great privilege of reading this amazing book of poetry and photographs “Your Words” by Louise Belanger. I just happened upon this and what a wonderful surprise. Her poetry delves into our present situation with Covid and her close connection to God and Jesus through this difficult time.

Many poems touched me and one of those poems is called “Different the Way” and part of it hit so close to home and here is one of those parts:
“Funny thing that Now with Covid-19 People are no longer satisfied with a text, an email or even a phone call All of a sudden, with this isolation They crave the face to face I adore They noticed that video chat is a poor substitute for what they desire now Funny thing that They want what was available in abundance before Covid-19 But then they didn’t”

Another poem that was so beautiful and touched my heart is called “Power in Life” and here is a short passage from this poem:
“Difficult moments are part of life I have them like everyone else Times when you feel kind of dead inside from too much grief Someone you love has passed on or Something is crushing your heart or You have to take a difficult route or face something you would rather not”

All the poems have beautiful photos above them such as flowers, beautiful scenic places and so forth. If you love poetry you will love this book. I give this book a 5/5 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The lovely cover caught my attention. In this case you can judge a book by it's cover. The beautiful photography continued throughout this heart felt, relatable collection of poetry . It's been a long time since I read poems and I am so glad I choose this one. I highly recommend this inspirational gem.
