She set out to slay a dragon. She ended up claimed and bred.

When Duncan awoke from long centuries of sleep, Aurora was waiting for him, ready to strike him down and avenge her ancestors. But the Lord of the Sky is not so easy to kill, and she ended up punished, sore, and screaming with every helpless climax as he ravaged her mercilessly.

But the ancient beast didn't just strip her bare, spank her until she was soaked and sobbing, and then use her as savagely and shamefully as he pleased. He did much more than that.

He bred her, seeding her virgin body ruthlessly and thoroughly, over and over again.

When a dragon claims his mate, he leaves no doubt she is bound to him forever.

2 stars.

This barely squeaked out 2 stars for me and only because...well...dragons. The writing is repetitive and rather crude. Duncan (which by the way is not a sexy name in my book) is a dragon that has been asleep for a long time. He wakes and discovers his mate Aurora who tries to kill him. But of course she's not strong enough for the sexual arousal she feels towards him and it all goes down hill from there. Not sure I really understood the plotline beyond the dragons woke up to find their mates to beat an evil that is coming. It's more just spanking smut if you ask me.

First, uh...even as I'm writing this I'm getting annoyed. The hero is bossy (but not in a good way) and the heroine goes dumb when he decides to "punish" her for not obeying his every order. I love an alpha male but this just felt ridiculous to me. Honestly, it felt a little misogynistic.

Secondly, I don't like deceased mates that are constantly brought up and Duncan's past mate who also happened to be Aurora's ancestor was brought up a lot.

Third, I'm not sure that extra appendage made me uncomfortable or intrigued.

Well whatever, did I like this? Not particularly. Will I read about Duncan's other brothers? Probably not.

This is the first book by this author that I have read and she did an amazing job telling this story. I like shifter stories and I love dragon shifters and this book delivered with a sexy as sin dragon shifter in Duncan who has awoken after being asleep for a thousand years. This action-packed read was not only an edge of your seat thrill ride it was also a panty wetting sexy good read. Aurora is a feisty, fiery maiden who is Duncan's true heart! The chemistry between these two is fiery even if Aurora started out wanting to kill Duncan. This is the third book in the series but I had no problem reading this without having read the other two. If you love hot sex and dragon shifters then this is a read for you.

THIS WAS OKAY, I MEAN IT WAS PRETTY MUCH A LOT OF SPANKING, SMUT AND MALE DOMINANCE THAT COMES OFF AS SLIGHTLY MISOGYNISTIC. If deep down you secretly love to be dominated but if a real man does this to you, you might just react with a slap to the face and a kick in the nuts? Then, step right up!

I wasn't entirely thrilled with the characters, and how the hero had a 'true mate' thousands of years prior to him being put to sleep. If you've read Kellan's story then you'll know he's mated to Duncan's daughter. DUNCAN awoke from his slumber because he's 'needed' and finds his second 'true mate' that appeared to kill him. Somehow, they end up with lots of spanking sessions and then he's fucking her. End of story.

Lol, I'm kidding.

But that's what this story pretty much appeared to me. Zero content that makes you glued to your seat or leave you wanting. You know what's cool? The cover.

YOU ARE MY TRUE HEART AND I WILL TAKE YOU TO MATE

Once again, Ms. Delta James has penned a page-turning, action-packed, romantic suspense filled shifter tale. Whether you have read her Wayward Mates series or not, the story will read well as a stand-alone. If you did read Wayward Mates, the story takes place many years into the future; a plague has ravished the earth, things are returned to the old ways, before technology.

NOTE: This is a post-apocalyptic dark shifter romance. It contains explicit sex scenes and may seem as non-con or dubious consent—but it is the way of life among these shifters---especially when they are fated mates. It is a way of life, with a strong, dominant alpha male and an equally strong submissive female who eventually capitulates and finds the pleasure in his control and mastery over her body. Yes, it even comes with the coveted HEA ended.

The story will be the third of the dragon shifters to awaken after being cast into a sleep for a thousand years. Elspeth, a sorceress, and sister to Neeva, Duncan’s first mate, was to place the Dragons into eternal slumber, but she didn’t; instead, they will come forth when they are needed. Trouble is coming, and the four Elemental Dragons will need to fight as one.

When Duncan awakens, he smells the earthy scent of heather, violets, and thistle—the perfume of his true heart. Thinking maybe his beloved Neeva survived, he realizes quickly that she did not. But that smell, it is near, and then it aims to kill him.

“Why was it that his true hearts were never easy?”

Duncan and Aurora's story is a sorceress that has heard the tales of how the dragons destroyed and were evil--how Duncan raped and destroyed Neeva. Now, it has been placed upon Aurora to kill the last two dragons, Duncan and Seth. But Duncan has other plans; he knows that Aurora is his true heart, and he plans to claim her as his.

“You are my true heart, and I will take you to mate.”

The story has the good, the bad, and the evil, and is full of angst, lies, secrets, and it takes time to unravel the truth---who is honest and who is evil. Aurora has been told stories, but slowly those tales are full of hate and untruths. She is being used, but maybe she can change things. Will those under Duncan learn that Aurora isn’t someone to fear? That her magick isn’t evil?

I loved the chemistry between Duncan and Aurora, and I especially like how Neeva is able to communicate with Aurora words of wisdom and encouragement across time. By no means does Aurora just capitulate to Duncan; she is a strong-willed and determined woman. She is caught between her feelings for him, her life of magick, and her future as a drakaina.

“I was keeping you safe as is my responsibility as your lord and master. You were being defiant and fractious.”

“Nothing and everything in her life had prepared her for her mate, her dragonlord.”

As with the other stories in this series, it contains discipline and explicit sex scenes—but there are some unique characteristics to a dragon---read it and find out!

Duncan, a dragon shifter, said goodbye to his true heart, Neeva, begore going to sleep in a cave for over 1000 years. She died trying to protect the last clutch of eggs, including her own. Aurora comes to his cave to avenge her ancestress. Duncan realizes she is his new mate when he scents her. Duncan is confused. There is nothing to avenge; Neeva gave herself to him willingly, albeit against the wishes of her clan.
Aurora was raised to hate the elemental dragons, and to seek Duncan's death above all others. She tried to kill him twice in the cave. He wants to mark her as his and begin her transformation to drakaina. Then they will move into the castle below the cave.
When Aurora realizes he is her fate, she comes to accept his dominance and becomes the third drakaina. She doubts him and returns to the cave where she found him, and her former mentor uses her to try to free the evil her ancestress had imprisoned. Finally she realizes and acknowledges the truth. She does trust him, and he is good.
Nobody does dark romance like Delta James. I opened this book knowing I would like it, but it was even better than I had hoped. As always, the story is a well-developed tapestry woven around strong characters. Aurora is powerful and has to look within herself to see the truth. Duncan is a strong hero, of course, and is at times indulgent towards his love, and at other times disciplines her firmly. There is lots of hot sex and spankings. This is a great read, and one I will read again.

I didn't feel like there was much story in this book. I thought there would at least be some interaction with Gideon and/or Kellan, as they were already awake and mated. Or, that there would be more talk about the dark times coming, and maybe some interaction with the wolves.

It would have even been more interesting for me if Aurora kept her "majick". The scenes toward the end of the book were interesting and I would have enjoyed more of that discussion about Stanis and the crazy woman.

The majority of this book was about mating, spanking, impregnating Aurora, and turning Aurora into a dragon without her consent. BTW the frequency of the use of the dragon's tongue made me cringe. I can't speak for anyone else, but every time the book went into detail about it, I could understand how a guy feels when he sees some other guy get kicked in the crotch.

I felt like there was more story with the first two books. I didn't feel a connection between Aurora and Duncan until almost the very end, and it was a slight connection at that point. I guess I was expecting Duncan to spend more time extolling her virtues, teaching her to fly, romancing her a little. Then we have Aurora trying to kill Duncan at every turn. Hopefully Seth's book will have more of a storyline since all of the slumbering Dragons will be together again.

Definitely not my favorite in the series. I had been looking forward to it, but found myself being a bit disappointed. I guess I can go with 2.5, maybe 3 stars.

I was absolutely enthralled by this well-written, captivating dragon shifter romance & it is definitely worth reading. It is the 3rd book in the series & is set in the same era as the “Wolflord “series but it can be read as a standalone. It has a strong, well-paced plot with good world building & has some intriguing situations that are well-described. The characters are unique, strong-willed individuals with opposing personalities that eventually complements each other. There is good support from the secondary characters. I was quite amused at Duncan single-minded determination to claim his mate (Aurora) while she was just as determined to try & kill him.
It is about: a feisty, strong-will female sorceress (Aurora) with vengeance in her heart decides to kill the two remaining Elemental Dragons (Duncan, the Lord of the Skies) & (Seth, the Lord of Fire) in retaliation for past wrongdoings only to be confronted by Duncan, who promptly decides that she is his mate naturally she is definitely not too impressed with this idea, dragon shifters, fated mates, friendship, humor, snarkiness, adventure, some action, deceit, betrayal, twists & turns, intrigue, suspense, drama, secrets, threats, danger, enemies, memories, decisions, confrontations, deadly intentions, defiance, discipline, spankings, coercion, captivity, emotional turmoil, confusion, advice, compromises, steamy scenes, contentment & a well-deserved happy conclusion. I enjoyed read this dragon shifter romance & would recommend it to people who enjoy reading this genre.

STORY:
This shifter romance I found interesting. However, Aurora was a little bit annoying. I have not read this series, but found the blurb appealing and was curious. I was able to follow the premise of the storyline for the series without knowing the backstory of the other books well. I found the storyline likable and watching Duncan convince and take control of Aurora, because she was in serious denial being his mate. Watching this play out was exciting to see as well.

SEXUAL CHEMISTRY:
Sexually, this book got hands down 4/5. If was filled with sex and I know some readers may be bothered by that but I loved it!

SECONDARY CHARACTERS:
I got a bit of Seth and I really like his personally. I am definitely interested in his story. There were others that brought this story to life.

OVERALL:
Likable storyline. Aurora is annoying most of the time. Sex scenes I enjoyed them. I am interested in the other books for the series.

TRIGGERS: force sex scene

****I don’t equate these stories to real life. It’s about personal taste and what you would or want to tolerate with the books you read. I know we all have different opinions and preferences with what we read. I based my book reviews on my preferences and what I like, and while these preferences may not be the same for others, I hope this review was still helpful.

Was Dragon lore distorted? If so, by whom and why? Steamy PNR!
Aurora has been taught that the Elemental Dragons were not worthy and must be killed. She knew that there were two still “sleeping” so she decided to secretly enter their cave and kill them. Duncan is the third of the Elemental Dragons to awaken from their thousand-year slumber. What woke him or rather who?
This was a fascinating and very steamy paranormal story told in dual points of view about ancient times when dragons roamed the lands and protected the people from other shifters or just others…If you’ve ever read a Delta James book you know what I mean by steam. Lots and lots. Clever story with connections to the previous two books in this series of standalones, DRAGONLORD and SEALORD. Short but thoroughly entertaining if you like steamy paranormal dragon stories with spankings and blushing “cheeks.”
I volunteered to review an ARC of this book and now want to read the other two as well as the last in this series! Love the cover too. Something is coming and this world will need these four dragons…

This is simply a wonderful read, a dragon looking for his mate
Aurora has been looking to hunt and kill the final dragon she believes in the world and she is convinced that she can get to it prior to him waking up and being able to defend himself. Duncan however has been awake for quite some time and he is certain that the reason he has awaken is because somewhere out there is his mate, he just has to find her and then bring her into the same mindset as himself and ensure that she knows he is her lord and master and the she is his world and he will do anything to keep her safe.
This is an absolutely wonderful read and I cannot say how much you will enjoy the read it is quite an experience, I do not want to give away the plot or too much about the characters but I know that you will love every minute of this wonderful book.
I voluntarily received and review an Advanced Reader Copy
I thoroughly enjoyed the book and look forward to reading any future publications; keep up all the great writing.

Aurora was raised being told about the horrible dragons that caused the death of her descendants a thousand years ago. She is tasked with killing the dragon responsible for the death of Neeva, the Dragon Duncan's mate. War was raging and Neeva was protecing her clutch of eggs, when the dragon assigned to protect her, left to fight the war. As Aurora is about to kill Duncan, he was already awakened and realised Aurora was his true mate and starts to turn her into his Drakaina, his dragon mate, and breed her to make new dragons to carry on their existence. Aurora hasn't forgotten that it was her job to kill Duncan and attemps to do the deed numerous times, which gave me a chuckle and her quite a few punishments. Being a sorceress, she does have some magic, but I didn't get how her power worked, plus, as she was changing to a Drakaina, she lost some of her original magic. There is a finale with Aurora playing a part, and we do get a HEA. I look forward to finding out more about the one surviving egg of Neeva and Duncan's last clutch.

What a great story!! Aurora is a sassy defiant heroine and she wanted to get her revenge. But what’s a woman to do when “The One” shows up and she just can’t do it? She is Duncan’s new mate and he will spank her and drag climaxes out of her until she realizes it. Duncan is a very Arrogant Dragon shifter who is going to make sure she knows she is claimed! This is a new wonderful story to this series by the wonderful Delta James. It is a standalone yet in a series that has already put out 4 other standalone books. The feels in this story will take you on a rollercoaster! The anger, angst, anxiety and reluctance about being with such a dominant dragon are as if you are the one in this story. But then after all that. Steamy scenes, chemistry off the chart Love wins and a HEA is the cherry on top.

Aurora believes that she must kill the remaining dragon lords before they awake, but she is too late. Duncan has already awoken and she is his mate. It takes many spankings before Aurora accepts that she is his mate. Duncan and Aurora have their HEA and Seth’s story is set up.

This is again one of Ms. James best books. She is moving us slowly to the completion of the series and, I believe, the merging of all the shifters once again. The main male character is arrogant and, of course, the main female character is defiant, but still loves him. I love these stories!

All I really can say is Delta James you have done it again! This is the 3rd book in the series, from the very beginning you are engaged! Will Aurora, who is waiting and ready to strike him down and avenge her ancestors, succeed? Does she think the Lord of the Sky is so easy to kill? Or will Duncan who has slept for 1000 years be able to survive and tame and breed his feisty mate? Who lied to Aurora making her believe Duncan was evil? There are so many questions in this book that are answered but whilst being answered will keep you inthralled! Can’t wait for the next Seth’s story. I received this ARC copy for my honest review. Thank you! I just loved it!

Awful Story About Rape and Gaslighting

What am I reading?! It starts off fun, virginal girl has some hair brained idea that she's going to kill a dragon in his sleep, except he wakes up before she even gets there. THEN it turns into a tape fantasy where the dude says "I've never raped a woman in my life!" all offended, then proceeds TO RAPE HER. Also, side note, ewwww, he has no concept of basic hygiene: his boner has a ridge running around it he calls the dragon's tongue, it unravels for double penetration, the he flips her over and switches places. Barf. The next morning when she tries to kill him again, he tells her she needs to get over it. And oh by the way, his dragon's tongue started the turn-you-into-a-dragon process without her knowledge or consent, but it was necessary, you see, because she's his True Heart and needs to be pregnant and a dragon as soon as possible so no one will debt her right to rule by his side. Oh, you're upset because you didn't ask for any of this? Well, his kind have been overriding the DNA of women for millennia to make more female dragons and even though most of them were grumpy about it they eventually came around, even the girl's ancestor (who the dude says was his True Heart before she died trying to save their clutch of drain eggs). Oh! Save me from that kind of love! And if you're like, don't worry, I don't read these stories for the plot, well then have at it. I don't mind a little enemies-to-lovers action, but I can't abide stupid, and just because a lady experiences pleasure does not cancel out Actual Rape. Maybe if this was written 30 years ago it would get the bodice-ripper pass, but not today. So glad I read this on Kindle Unlimited and didn't actually purchase.

I just love these books, strong and sassy heroines, alpha males who are very dominant. This story sees Duncan waking up after being asleep for 1000 years, his first encounter is with a strong willed young woman who dabbles in magic, she tries to best him and fails! Aurora is no-ones fool and is determined to outwit and out manoeuvre Duncan at every turn. I loved the fiery and hot attraction between these two, this is a very passionate book with some very steamy encounters. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

This does not sit well with me

I usually like alpha themed books but this one left me uncomfortable. The female lead is basically beaten into submission, sexually manipulated and taken against her will. Every time she “defies” him she gets beaten and is sexually manipulated. And later the female acknowledges that she was taken against her will but because she knows the male lead better it’s ok. WTF!? I get keeping to a time period and being alpha but come on. For the author to make the female accept that behavior just rubs me the wrong way.

Never a quiet moment. Right from page one, Aurora challenges herself both physically and emotionally. Her attempt to assassinate Duncan, take out the remaining Dragon's before they have a chance to wake, and avenge her family is a noble intention. But laid to waste when he (and his brother) have already risen. Was she lied to by those who raised her? Is everything she learned incomplete and backwards? Will Duncan's second chance at a true love start become the beginning of the end?

As soon as I heard this had dragon shifters in it, I was all in. Dragons is one of my favorite shifters and now Duncan is one of my favorite dragons. Aurora is feisty, stubborn and I loved how she holds her own against Duncan. Instead of getting revenge, she finds her mate!! Now that's bounds to mess up a girls plans but she makes him work for it! One of my favorite books in this series!! Loved it!

Honestly there wasn't enough plot to keep me completely interested, it was mostly about the physical relationship. The relationship was honestly difficult because it had consent issues which tries to be put okay by it being part of Duncans nature. I felt there wasn't a lot of communication and Aurora essentially gave up everything to be with someone she initially came to kill.

The other books in the series had me hooked, this I won't be rereading sadly.

Aurora was orphaned and raised by a Burkis, and had been taught a warped history between dragons and sorceress’ that led her on the path to Duncan. Duncan awakes in his cave after 1000 years and encounters Aurora who tries to kill him, only to fail. Duncan does the only thing he knows to do, he takes her over his knee. I loved the push and pull between Duncan and Aurora and their chemistry was palpable!! Absolutely loved everything about this story and highly recommend!

Wow what a wonderful read. Duncan and Aurora’s story is the best so far in this series. The twists and turns in their story keep you reading till the very end. They are very much fire and water but some how make it workout beautifully in the end. Can’t wait for the next instalment!

I just love these dragons and their mates. Each story just keeps getting better and better. Aurora is a kicka$$ heroine. I loved her determination and strength. Duncan is... well a dragon. He will not take no for an answer. Even though Aurora loves telling him no. The story is fascinating and well written. Don't miss this one!

I enjoyed this third book in the series. I love that the draikonas are fierce and independent. Seems like all the women in the sanctuary are fated. I would have liked to see the reunion of Duncan and Míorúilt. Aside from some unsanitary rutting practices involving the dragons tongue moving back and forth. I recommend this book.

Just ...NO...

I was hoping this book would hold up to the reviews, but I was so disappointed. The first bit of the book moved WAY to fast. It felt more like a "rape" scene than an old dragon claiming his mate. This book just wasn't my cup of tea. Others may enjoy it however.

A spitfire fit for a dragon!

This is book 3 in the Dragon Shifters books. This is was very enjoyable read. Who would not love a story with a sorceress, a dragon and a hot and steamy relationships? Sometimes, Aurora, is just a little too stubborn and strong willed for her own good. But she meets her match in Duncan, her true heart (mate). He is everything you think a dragon shifter should be – hot, overbearing at times, arrogant. But he also recognizes that she is his chance for a second love. He just needs to convince her. He too, has also met his match in Aurora. With all their past experiences, they still found a way to be together. It was a very enjoyable story. And, most importantly, it is leading up to book 4 which I hope comes out soon. Now, having said this, I am sure that some may be able to pick up this book and read it no problems without having first read the other two, but for me, I strongly believe that the story will be better if you read the first two books – DragonLord and SeaLord first as there are components in from those two books that show up in this book and I am pretty sure, their stories will feature strongly in the 4th book yet to be released.
