Rate this book
Set in a modern-day urban cyber-punk style, where a mask-wearing Brooklyn hoodlum teams up with a disgruntled twelve-year-old hacker in a quest to discover the origin of a highly advanced branch of nanotechnology.

This version of Autonomous G.U.I contains a 42-page color intro with an additional 30 pages of black and white sequential art. The cover of this dazzling book is 100 lb Silk Cover (card) .010 thickness. Feels really nice in your hands. Pages are composed of "100 lb Gloss Text" which is nice and sturdy with no image bleed through to text balloons.

Summary of the intro:

Two cyborgs diverged in a metal maze,
And sorry they could not escape both,
And so one traveler, sword engaged
And looked down halls as far they could
To where something came from underneath.

I, like other reviewers, purchased this book from its creator, Odidious Mixzoplex, in a park. Some things I appreciated in this comic were explorations of human/machine integration, the Easter eggs for canonic anime + sci fi action, and the very gestural indie feel. I also loved the big, cinematic page panels and almost underwater vibes of some panels. I like that this comic is about New York and made by a small Brooklyn publisher. This house + creator has great potential in children's commercial fiction. I think with a little bit of mindfulness towards age, (the main character is 12 and kids tend to read up, so an organic audience would be in the 9-11 range, which makes the ...cigarette? joint? ... rolling scene a bit difficult) Brooklyn Manga could have a very strong story. Biopower plays such a strong role in this futuristic world, which is a great question of self ownership to face.

Going forward, I would like to see the relationship between the young hacker and his partner develop into a deeper mentorship with endemic jokes/culture as well as mutual learnings.
