“No letter that could be sent deserves to go undelivered.”
I finished reading the final book in the series as quickly as I could. Amazing scenery, a doll who is a badass soldier, and a character who is recovering her life make this series nice for the heart. The first chapter in this book was the most beautiful. The characters were so well-rounded, and they had such a lively vibe to them. I'll always have a special place in my heart for the tale of Violet Evergarden. For some reason, I typically like novels where the main characters are emotionless or scarred and they find love and acceptance, and this one was no different. The tale of love, suffering, and hope. Stunningly heartbreaking. I sobbed hysterically and felt everything.
An overall rather meh series, with some highlights that make it worth it, I suppose. I actually really liked chapter 2. It's a very nice Dietfried chapter.
The rest was pretty meh, honestly. The writing is still quite bad and repetitive, but if you want more .
Almost none of this volume has been adapted. Chapter 2 might technically have been used for part of the train episodes, but you REALLY have to squint for it. The ending of that chapter was modified for the ending of one of the episodes in the show, but it's also heavily modified. The rest of the story's been too modified in adaptation for this to make sense.
If you liked this, I'd suggest watching the anime and films. They are far better. If you want to see the anime and films in the books... you're not going to. They're completely different stories almost in entirety, save for parts of the first two books.
And so, we have reached the end... I'm going to miss Violet. This book mostly contains 'extra materials' that did not feature in the TV series or the first film. I still have to watch the second one, The Movie, but since the ending of Book 2 was already quite different than the series, I'm expecting clear differences here as well.
The first chapter is the one that struck me most, I think it's one of the best of the entire series. It feels so full of life, the characters are so full-fledged. This is what perfection means. So it's a bit of shame that it's the first chapter, and not the last, because obviously this means that we can't truly end on a high note. Thankfully, all the other chapters/stories are nearly equally fine and well-written. What more can one ask?
Since there still are no English translations available, I read all of the books in the fan translation made by Dennou Translations on Tumblr. I'll keep doing so until someone finally figures out that these stories deserve to get published officially in America and/or the UK. However, don't worry: the fan translation is also very fine, hardly any typos at all, and the typical style that is Violet, as we already know her from the TV series, is clearly visible.
”Listen up: whenever you’re troubled, remember that I’m here. And then you’ll be able to go on a journey again anytime.”
i love all the relationships in Violet Evergarden’s life, she got surrounded by brilliant and kind people. the chapter focusing on hodgins’s perspective made me sob. everyone know that they’ll be diverging paths soon as the business grow bigger and they grow older. it’s heartwarming to know that hodgins always have violet’s back and violet is showing him that she can as well.
i thought this instalment would be all about gilbert and violet’s life but they were consistently in a long distance relationship until the last chapter when they finally reunited, and even then, it’s a short reunion. i’m disappointed but i do recognise that this might be the reality of their relationship, especially with their respective occupation as a colonel and a moving memory doll. but how i wished i’ve seen more of them interact. their love is so pure and i wanted more.
I have never read something as beautiful as this, and I have never cried simply because something was beautifully written, until now. From the plot and characters to the author's notes and the afterword, these books were magnificent. Usually, people get excited when they see the number of pages decline, but the more I read, the sadder I got because I didn't want to finish this journey. The way Violet changes throughout the story is amazing. Seeing her insecure for the first time made something inside me very happy, she had finally accepted that she was human. The message these books carry is incredible and beautiful. I want to see life as this book portrays it. Simply beautiful and breathtaking.
This one is pretty good actually. I could think Violet and the Major are cute If it was not a clear depiction of grooming. I would have given it 4 stars, but it's the same as with the others.
It's important to put side by side the LN and the anime series when it comes to Violet Evergarden since I'm sure most of you will come for the LN after you finished the anime. I am writing the review for the entirety of the Violet Evergarden series.
Before the anime series aired in 2018, I was intrigued enough to read the LN and managed to find some kind translators since this is not available internationally. To me, the anime was visually stunning yet the LN is INFINITELY MORE CHARMING.
The characters are more complex—all broken yet beautiful especially the Bougainvilleas. You will probably morally question their choices in life yet you might end up feel conflicted because for some reason, their bad choices are rooted from their past, and the aftermath is unnavoidable. Some characters are not present in the anime in replacement for the new ones. Yet I personally feel that the ones left out from the LN puts more to the story than their replacements in the anime series.
The found family is more gripping. While in the anime, the dynamics and connections between characters are inconsistent, it is more profound in the LN. The CHS postal became one of my favorite found family in fiction and everyone is loveable on their own rights. Speaking biasedly, I found anime!Benedict as a boring character that has a personality of a cardboard but LN!Benedict became my favorite not just for his past but also for his entire personality. Other characters like Hodgins and Cattleya were not properly explored in the anime so if you crave for them more, you might want to start reading the LN.
The entire plot of Violet Evergarden heavily focuses on the aftermath of the war and while the anime was able to show its horror, nothing competes the emotion invoked from the words of Akatsuki Kana. I symphatized with the anime scenes but I emphatized with the LN. I cried my heart out as if I was there. As if I experienced the war myself.
The anime diverged from the LN and I'm sure that the writing can be confusing. I cannot help but be partial with the LN for its depth.
A beautiful ending to a beautiful tale. I looked for this light novel right after I finished watching the final movie. The movie was absolutely wonderful but I wished for some sort of closure. I enjoyed every minute I spent reading this light novel: the English translation has been done remarkably well and the writing was so colorful that I felt as though I was watching extra scenes from the anime itself.
"The story of this girl finally ends here. Is there any sadness in that? Once it begins, every story comes to an end. But you can make this one eternal by reminiscing to it."
I will be reminiscing about Violet Evergarden, her love and her journey for a very long time. ❤

I’m so glad I read this! After watching the movie, I found myself wanting to see Gilbert and Violet and everyone afterwards. What do they end up doing? Also, I didn’t realize Benedict saw Violet as his little sister, what with their matching blue eyes and blond hair. They are so cute together!
Hubo varias partes que se me hicieron repetitivas, como el encuentro entre Dietfried y Violet, y gran parte en donde se estuvo haciendo referencia al pasado de Violet sin dar nuevos detalles.

When I first watched Violet Evergarden, I don't think I could have imagined the emotion it would draw from me. The animated show dazzled me with its beautiful visuals, stunning characters design, and heart-wrenching short stories. From the moment I finished the pilot, I knew it would be important to me. Violet's quest to understand emotions and learn how to empathize with others resonated with me in a way no other story I experienced before had and I find myself coming back to her story seeking reassurance. However, I always felt like there was something missing. When I would go back to view the series, I would think "these side characters could have been more fleshed out" or "I wish there this story had more emotional nuance." And to my luck, the light novel series completely changed that for me. The beautiful writing filled in the gaps in the story, as well as added new, compelling perspectives that were absent from the animated production. The discussions about forgiveness, love, hope, and pain these novels presented me with will stay in my mind for a long time. The Violet written about in these novels is vastly different from the one I was first introduced to when I viewed the animated series, but both their stories mean just as much to me. Thank you to Dennou for allowing us English readers to experience such a wonderful story.
