Another fart-tastic installment in the middle-grade adventure series by #1 New York Times bestselling author Aaron Reynolds and illustrator Cam Kendell.
The Great and Powerful Kevin has a new quest for our heroes…seek out another disgusting ingredient for his mysterious project.
High in the Frostflung Mountains lies the lair of a fearsome dragon named Glacierbane. Pan, Moxie, Fart and TickTock must venture there and fish a dragon-digested object from deep within a pile of dragon doo.
But Pan isn’t having it. She’s not sure why, but she doesn’t trust Kevin. But when she learns of a kidnapped prince that needs rescuing from Glacierbane, suddenly this quest seems a whole lot more heroic.
Our young heroes will face their toughest challenges yet as they team up with a valiant knight, brave the air-islands of Frostflung, fight yetis and snow goblins, solve puzzles and riddles, face a dragon, and seek the poo they need.

Aaron Reynolds is a New York Times Bestselling Author of many highly acclaimed books for kids, including Dude!, Creepy Carrots!, Creepy Pair of Underwear!, Nerdy Birdy, and tons more. He frequently visits schools and his highly participatory presentations are a blast for kids and teachers alike. He lives in the Chicago area with his wife, two kids, four cats, and between three and ten fish, depending on the day.
I like that this series is growing an overall emotional arc. It holds the adventures together and adds a lot of depth to the characters. I think each one is better than the last because of that added depth. I know it's pretty common to kids' books, but I'm enjoying the fact that this story was basically one Chekhov's gun after another. Every story element MUST become relevant later. The illustrations are fantastic, as always. I think my only real beef with this series (and this book in particular) is the scaling of the fights. Kinda tough to tell me that your characters are Level 4 kids and then have them beat a dragon without even a scratch on any of the main characters. I know, I know, they gotta fight a big boss to keep the story interesting. But I demand canon-accurate powerscaling from my children's D&D fiction, damn it!
Aaron Reynolds has done it again. I really enjoyed both Fart Quest and Barf of the Bedazzler, but I think this one was better than either of those. I loved continuing to get to know Fart, Pan, and Moxie, and their relationship reached a new dynamic in this book with the entrance of Seraphim, the Knight of the Rose, with whom Pan and Moxie became immediately enamored. I truly love that Reynolds introduces DND to kids in a fun and funny way and it’s fun to imagine that these characters were (perhaps?) born from his own campaigns (no idea if this is true but I’m going to believe it until I hear otherwise).
Of course, it was full of fart and poop jokes like the others, but it wouldn’t be Fart Quest without them, so I’ll tolerate them 😅
I’m excited to see where the fourth book takes our adventurers and I can’t wait to see what Kevin is really up to.
My 10 year old and I have been reading this series together and we absolutely love it! For me this book wasn’t my favorite but that doesn’t mean I didn’t like it. It felt harder to motivate my son to want to read and some parts felt like it dragged on for a bit. I was really surprised when I asked my son what he would rate this book from 1 to 5 stars and he said 100 out of 5 stars!!!
This was his favorite book so far because he said that we are really getting into the secrets and the motivation of the villain. He also loves how the characters are evolving and growing not only in their skills but their relationships and their own personalities. His favorite character is still TikTok even though he was not as involved in this book as the previous two.
My favorite parts of this book as an adult was the themes of friendship, integrity, jealousy, managing emotions and self-responsibility. These characters are found family and they continue to show up for each other and show support when their friends need it. One of our main characters Fart is still dealing with his feelings of inadequacies but he has come a long way and I love watching him grow, the series is from Fart’s point of view and he is definitely my favorite character.
You will not regret reading these books with the kiddos in your life!
I received an electronic ARC from Macmillan Children's Publishing Group through NetGalley. Fart, Moxie and Pan are back for another adventure. This time they need to find a third item for Kevin to complete whatever he is making. Readers travel with them as they meet new friends and add to their quest group. It's refreshing to see how the characters grow and share themselves. Readers see the friends struggle and experience emotions and challenges they can relate with. The humor continues to shine through with serious undertones. The brief hint for book four will keep readers guessing about what is to come.
This amazing book written by Aaron Reynolds features an excellent story and a funny plot. I would strongly recommend this book to years 8-14 as the language is quite simple and the story is easy to follow along. The great and powerful Kevin assigns Fart, Pan, Moxie and TickTock a new task, an adventure. As they go, Pan grows more and more doubtful about the task. Something about it was not right. As they venture through different biomes, they are alerted that a kidnapped prince needs their help. Will they make it in time? Will they survive the odour from the dragon doo?
If you know an upper elementary schooler with an interest in reading a fast action story filled with fantasy and friendship and humor and some stomach-churning details, this is the book for them. It's a wild read that they should enjoy. (Nicely illustrated too.) I won a copy of this book in a Goodreads giveaway for this honest review.
Fart the mage, Pan the elf and Moxie the...viking? (I'm not sure since this is the first one I've read... she has a big hammer weapon) agree to a third assignment to retrieve a magical item for Kevin, a wizard with possibly evil motivations. The item will be found in a pile of dragon dookie. Dilemmas ensue. Jealousy. Betrayal. Adventure. Poo humor. I'm definitely not the audience for this.
My son and I read this book together and it had us cracking up with all of the glorious fart puns!!! Highly recommend for all fart joke loving kiddos!!! And the story itself was a fun adventure too that kept us saying, just one more chapter.
My 8 year old is dying for the next one in the series. I liked the characters a lot and the spoonicorn was our favorite addition. My kids loved that I gave her an exaggerated valley girl accent while I read this aloud to them.
This book was hilarious, and it’ll make you laugh ‘til you cry. Characters, spells, and other mythical creatures appear and make the plot higher. Creatures you remember in Rick Riordan’s stories, like the Manticore will reappear in the story. It’s Awesome with a capital A!
I've listened to the first 2 of this series- but this one and the 4th aren't on audio books (whyyyy) so I read it. I loved it just as much. I like the illustrations, I like the mixed media moments and I love the kid-D&D feel.
"with great power... come great dangers." Now Fart and his friends must go on another quest for the mysterious Kevin, without knowing what lies ahead. This time they meet Seraphim and Sparkles, a knight and a.... SPOONICORN! great read, highly recommended.
Gotta admit, I almost cried at a part in this one (ok I teared up but nothing came out so it doesn't count) AND I called the big reveal (which I am proud of, thank u very much). Pan, Fart, & Moxie go through some serious growth in this one & we are eager for book four!
trigger warnings: death of parent mention, bullying
This was such a fun book. I'm a bit upset with myself for not looking up whether this was a series or not before reading this because now I'm done with the third book so all the stuff in the first two are just spoilt for me.
I loved the camaraderie in this book, the value in friendship that the book emphasizes, and the general sense of found family.
The DnD vibes of this book also made this SOOO much fun to read. The writing is hilarious and comforting and make this a fantastic comfort read for kids and adults alike.
