I still feel guilty calling this a book. And yet, it is a book. This time there was some, minimal, reading involved, that didn't distract me from looking at oodles of pictures in the form of stickers. As in the first book, I plan to use a few to seal envelopes and in letters to cover over boo boos. They look better than "Wite-Out". Excellent and useful book.
This hardly counts as a book review, but if you are anything like me, you will thrill at the revelation that The Antiquarian Sticker Book exists. Actually, these books, but we’ll get to that in a second. I was wandering a bookstore, actually looking for a souvenir. In this interesting area near the journals, I saw this beautiful book with an old-timey air and I picked it up. It was a book of stickers, but super classy. A sticker book for grown-ups?! When I was a kid, I totally collected stickers. For that matter, so did my daughter. Even as an adult, I feel a draw toward sheets of stickers at the store and I still have some old packs stowed away with my art supplies. But these? How genius. I had to have it.
There are three of these books: The Antiquarian Sticker Book, The Antiquarian Sticker Book: Bibliophilia, and The Antiquarian Sticker book: Imaginarium. All with a Victorian, almost steam-punk vibe, they’re hard-back books chock-full of style, with 1,000+ stickers from small to quite large. They’re pretty random and quirky and the one that I ended up getting–Bibliophilia–has whole pages of stylized letters. Unnecessary? Yes. Fun? Absolutely.
My only complaint is that the stickers are very papery. It’s almost not a complaint, because the matte finish gives the stickers a more refined, more adult, and prettier air than the usual, glossy stickers. However, I do feel like they won’t hold up to as much, since they are essentially unfinished paper, so maybe they shouldn’t land on my mug or notebook cover.
I imagine that after I am done, the book could be mined for paper (I collage) and also used as an altered book (see HERE if you don’t know what I’m talking about). Still, I am super happy with the stickers and this book, and I might just get the other two, some day.
Or some other brand? It turns out Odd Dot (the publisher) is not the only one on to this market. DK also makes a series (maybe less for grown-ups and more for the science-y type), including The Botanist’s Sticker Anthology, The Birds, Bees, and Butterflies Sticker Anthology, and The Seashore Sticker Anthology. Joan Derrian has The Joan Derrian Sticker Book, Chloe Standish has Sticker Studio: Arcana and Atlantis, Thunder Press has Harry Potter: World of Stickers, and Peter Pauper Press has Loads of Ephemera Sticker Book. There’s a William Morris Sticker Book and–to open another can of worms–an Extraordinary Things to Cut Out and Collage. I cannot speak for any of these books, their quality or anything, but they all look very intriguing online. The good news here is that if you believe in reconnecting to the child-you, this might be just the thing to have lying about, especially if you deal with paper or words or art much. There are hobbies I left behind me at some point because I grew up. I am currently rediscovering roller skating, dressing up (cosplay), and collecting stickers because they all bring me a little bit of joy and just about anything is possible these days.
Not really a book but a collection of stickers, which was recommended to me after I mentioned my struggles with journalling and my acquaintance strongly suggested using stickers to personalise the pages as a way to make it more of an attractive "place" to be. And that was definitely true but this particular collection... WTF. It's just 99% creepy shit. The cover looked beautiful and as I was purchasing online I assumed it was a fair representation of what was inside. My bad! What's inside is your stereotypical death- and demon- and Victorian era morbid obsession- themed stuff. Plus moths, bugs, spiders. Not only that but most of the stickers are HUGE - what size notebooks do other people use for journalling, pray tell me? Because most of these would take up half a page of mine. The colors aren't vivid but very flat and faded, some of mine seem to have issues with sticking to paper and the few I used had an ugly pale green background color that stands out and clashes with the white notebook pages. 1* for the diversity of choices but unless you're into the creepy/morbid Victorian vibe, look elsewhere.
Bought this on a whim and I love it so much. If you are my friend IRL, keep an eye out for beautiful, interesting stickers on your birthday card this year.
This book includes my all time favorite sticker of a man sitting in a chair, trying to write a letter as a demon covers his eyes. It's amazing and needs to be seen by everyone so buy this book! (It's located just under a man in a sheet pointing, hand extended out of the sheet so it's clear what he's pointing AT.)
If this sounds up your alley, and you want to see more stickers like gemstones, skulls, and an elephant also in a bed sheet, this is the sticker book for you!
It's seriously brought immense joy into my life and I am strongly fighting the urge to cover my home in these stickers like a 4 year old!
Also in hardcover to make you feel more fancy as you add your sticker book onto your bookshelf!
This sticker book is an absolute treasure! The artwork is stunning, with intricate and enchanting designs that make each page feel like stepping into a world of timeless beauty. It’s so gorgeous that I can’t bring myself to use the stickers—I just flip through it whenever I want a little moment of joy and inspiration. The quality of the book and the stickers is impeccable, and it truly feels like a collector’s item rather than just a simple sticker book. If you have a soft spot for vintage aesthetics, books, or beautiful stationery, this will be an instant favorite.
Not sure this is a book you can really rate, because there’s no story, but some could argue the stickers tell a story if you’re creative enough. It’s easily the best sticker book to ever exist, and I want 2 copies - one to preserve on my shelf to look at, and one to actually use the stickers. Every page is art.
This book is the Antiquarian Sticker Book Bibliophilia. Basically there is nothing to read but has lots of sticker letters from A-Z, and many beautiful and quirky vintage stickers to just look at (over a thousand) and use or leave in the book to look at over and over. It is a delight outside and in.
This book makes my former crafting and sticker-collecting self swoon everytime I lay eyes on it in our Gift Book Section in the English Bookshop. Pages upon pages of stunning nostalgic bibliophile themed stickers! A dream come true for handicraft enthusiasts.
Never ever post reviews but this one deserved it. I was just perusing at target and this book jumped out at me. Truly page after page of beautiful stickers. Something so special I didn't know I was missing! I mean it's definitely the sticker book for bibliophiles!!
Honestly considering getting a second copy of this, so I can keep one pristine to browse through for inspiration and the other one to use all the stickers. 😂😂
This is an eclectic collection of stickers. I purchased it for stock images for my artists morgue of reference photos. It’s a great collection ~ and being hard bound makes it even more awesome.
absolutely adore these books... I junk journal and these books are well worth the money! The stickers could be a little stickier, but I've never had anything actually fall off either so there's that. I'm very happy.
