Season 1: 3.5 stars

Most of you are probably real familiar with this scenario:

You are a low born slave girl, mistreated constantly, and only known hardships your entire life....that is until you catch the eye of an Emperor. Your innocence and lack of decorum attracts him, so he falls head over heels in love with you. One problem, he already has an Empress. That's why he makes you his mistress but dotes on you as if you are the wife. Now you are left to survive in court with political games, an adoring Emperor and a cold, powerful empress who hates your guts.

Except in this webtoon you aren't the low born mistress. You're the empress herself. Regal, intelligent, level-headed...and not as easy to make a fool out of😌.
description description
A pretty good concept, I liked it.

Although this might be controversial but I don't like a single man in this story. Yes, not even Heinrey. He is cute n all but he's just too much. The toxic bitch in me is not impressed. In fact, I kinda want the white-haired desert fella to come back, he had potential.

Chapters 1 to 80

I'd found this gem by accident while browsing Line Webtoon and I thought the synopsis was such a promising one. Fortunately, the execution did not disppoint.

Navier, the empress, is strong-willed, intelligent, and responsible, unlike the piece of shit that is her husband, the emperor. He not only takes on a mistress but then proceeds to attack, insult, and humiliate Navier whenever the woman he is committing adultery with sheds a few tears. So tragic.

The first chapter reveals Navier getting remarried to Prince Henreiy (I definitely butchered his name), so that's not a spoiler. I'd feared that knowing the ending would take from my enjoyment of the story; however, I'm still as invested in it as I had originally been. Watching how the Prince and the Empress grow closer together is an absolute delight.

Oh, and the artwork is truly beautiful ❤(ӦvӦ。)

Looking forward to reading more of this!

If I could give this volume a glowing 10 stars, hands down, I would do it in a heartbeat!

IT IS SO SO SO GOOD!!

I got a recommendation from a friend to try this on WebToons before the physical release and was *extremely* optimistic given that I have had very little success in connecting with reads that have strong political overtones. I didn't expect to love this, but this has probably been one of my favorite reads of the year!

Navier is absolute QUEEN! While I didn't super love her character when I first met her, the almost instant compassion you feel for her once you find out her husband takes on mistress changes everything. I deeply deeply loved another character who shows up and really shows genuine affection towards our Queen because it is the highlight of this volume IMO. Navier's feelings and treatment is overwhelming and honestly want all the best of things for her because...

I hate hate hate Sovieshu and Rashta like no other fictional character I have ever read. The things they do to our Queen are horrendous and just ugh, it boils my blood so much! While everything about this story is amazing, these two characters are awful. Their actions and their words make you want to completely erase them from the story and never ever ever say their names again. Honestly, Rashta's nickname of Trashta is *beyond* fitting.

But Heinrey! *chef's kiss* He is a delight to read on page and loved every single interaction he has with our Queen. This man knows she is beyond fitting for her title and respects her for it and can't help but smile when I see him best Sovieshu in all his interactions.

The story itself is perfection! Again, I'm not a political reader fan, but I LOVE this! Plus the fantasy aspect is deeply intriguing! (Honestly wish I could say more on it because its my favorite LOL) Everything is so engaging and was SOOOO sad when it ended. I'm already desperate for the next volume even if I caught myself smirking at the turn of events.

HIGHLY recommend if you're looking for a political story with fantastic characters (very very good and very very bad)! Can't wait to hold the physical in my hands because this will be a series I will definitely reread over and over again! SOOOOOO GOOD!!

*(I received an e-ARC from the publisher. All thoughts expressed are my own.)*

Honestly, I just want to kick the emperor's ass because how in the world do you switch up on someone so quickly.

The Remarried Empress has been on my TBR for the longest and I'm glad that I finally picked it up. Alphatart did a wonderful job crafting a story that was simultaneously heartbreaking and intriguing. Empress Navier and Emperor Sovieshu were betrothed at a young age and were supposed to be the epitome of happiness and success as a couple and future rulers; however, things drastically change when Emperor Sovieshu meets a young women who he finds attractive. In fact, he's so infatuated with her that he'd do anything to make her feel comfortable including making Empress Navier feel unwanted, disrespected, and unloved. What follows is Empress Navier's journey into realizing that her role as Empress could be challenged, but it's also about her potential in finding new alliances and possibly new love. I'm not going to lie, I enjoyed every page of the messiness and drama in this one and I'm looking forward to picking up volume 2.

So this review reflects my view of the Web Comic. The art is AMAZING, I have nothing bad to say about it, we can see all the work that the artist put in the comic and in trying to bring the characters to life. The writing is when things get complicated...It doesn't have fluidity, many times I was thinking: no person would answer or say something in that way. More times than I could count it felt forced and superficial although I have to say that there were moments of intelligent and wise discussions and comebacks, they weren't the majority some lines felt even silly. But this comic wouldn't have received this rating if not for one of the messages.

For me...The Remarried Empress was addictive because of its main premise, the first chapter I mean it isn't a big spoiler since we know the title of the comic and I'm talking about the first chapter in it, but if you don't wanna know anything about the beginning of the story skip the rest of this paragraph, anyway in the first chapter we see an empress agreeing to a divorce and then in the next second asking for her second marriage to be approved, it was a great twist and it showed that this could be a refreshing story about a powerful female main character. And in the second chapter, until the one I read, it told the past, how all the characters arrived at that scene in the first chapter.

And in those characters, the potential was wasted in my view, because of a trope that I HATE: when the story pits women against women . The plot kind of creates an environment in which the main source of confrontation is a man (the emperor) and at least I didn't see him exposed as the real problematic thing for those two women. On one side we have the empress on the other the mistress, and of course, the mistress will take 99% of the responsibility, guilt, shame, and villainy in this while it should be divided with that asshole: the emperor, who is pictured mostly as the "fool" and not as the controlling and selfish traitor that he is.

I could see the repercussions of that trope in the comments and I could see that in the fact that the mistress - Rashta - has a "nickname" Trashta within the first chapter in the comments. I'm not a fan of Rashta but I always see more hate towards her and everybody in a way forgetting about how terrible the emperor is. Yeah people don't like the emperor, and he receives a certain level of hate but it's in no comparison close to what Rashta gets - he doesn't even have his own "trash nickname". I'm not defending Rashta's wrongdoings and I don't even like her, I find her annoying AF, manipulative and selfish.

But I like fair treatment, in which if both characters fuck up then give them both hell, and it's not what I see in this story. I think the comic helps the emperor in his construction and false notion that he is "only" a cheater, a brat, and a blind idiot who we can't take seriously and put real responsibility.

The emperor is the one who is juggling two women: the empress, that he is in a marriage of convenience and grew up with, so we assume that there was a friendship in the start yet at the moment that the mistress appears he sees the empress more like a job colleague and possession and shows no consideration, respect or decency towards her, it's like she isn't a person he could care about when his desires and entitlement always will come first and hers aren't even acknowledged most of the time.

And in the development of the comic (I managed to read it until chapter 58), things only get worse with the emperor using her as a verbal outlet for his anger, someone who he considers more his subordinate with a high title than his equal and someone who he is always creating competition with the mistress sometimes saying that she should be more like the mistress other times internally thinking that the mistress should be more like her. So we have this deep manipulative, volatile, slippery, egocentric prick who should never have the title of man child because he is an adult who knows exactly what he is doing and how much he is fucking up. Even if the mistress can lie to him and manipulate him on certain occasions, he chooses to believe her because it is easier for him and his selfish desires, he chooses to not even listen to the other side and take his own conclusions after. So why don't I see him receiving his real pound of guilt and shame?

And the mistress, he sees her like a doll that can revolve her whole world around him, what a dream to a self-absorbed fucker. What he does at first may be portrayed as kindness towards the mistress, as her "savior" but really he treats her as a glorified pet who is there to fuel his ego and soothe all his flaws. His protective conduct sounds more like a control freak and a decision to protect his other possession, I'm not saying that the mistress is an innocent bystander in this, thank goodness she isn't, she is the main antagonist in The Remarried Empress, yet I would like to see the emperor acknowledged as the other main antagonist. He is the one that puts gasoline on the situation in which the tradition pits women against each other, I mean he isn't even a good prize and we all know that, so why all the catfight and the "he was stolen" narrative. I really hope that he ends alone.

I don't know if it was only me, but certain comments were really disturbing

And although I think the author's intentions weren't to create such a toxic atmosphere in the comment area, I have to say that the combination of the said trope (pitting women against women) plus the whole "It's the woman who stole my husband from me" helped the development of this atmosphere. I hate this "logic" of stealing someone in a "romantic" setting, nobody can steal someone because people aren't things, your partner can't be stolen he can choose to leave you or if this was another kind of story he could have been kidnapped, forced to leave you or coerced, but in this story, it wasn't the case.

The emperor wasn't a faithful person moreover he felt entitled to have two women and took what he wanted, so when the Empress says that the mistress stole her husband she is lying to herself, he was never hers, to begin with, don't excuse him because you care for him...the blame shouldn't be put solely on the mistress. If the emperor didn't want an affair he wouldn't have one, so don't take his responsibility, fault, and blame in the matter with sentences like that, they are dangerous because they give a free pass to people who cheat, they send the message that when two people cheat the one out of the relationship should receive more blame when it's the opposite.

The ones inside the relationship, are the ones who committed to respect the partner, to care about who they constructed a relationship more than the stranger, after all, they were the other part of the marriage or relationship, they were the ones with the bond, the affection, the connection, the assumed loyalty. I'm not excusing the third part wrongdoing, I'm just saying that we see that kind of narrative too much, and more with men that are forgiven too easily while the mistress receives all the guilt, be fair, slit the fucking guilt between the two shitheads.

This isn't a review to pit Navier (the empress) against Rashta more, I really like Navier yet I don't see her as perfect as I don't see Rashta as pure evil, I think the story is more complex than that, I know that Navier is our heroine and Rashta our antagonist, I know I'm rooting for Navier to be out of that marriage, and I know that even that bastard of the emperor isn't villainy personified. I know all of that and I can still say that Rashta's treatment is unfair more in the comments than in the story but still unfair, since I don't see most people blaming the emperor equally or even more than the mistress. It isn't like she forced him to cheat his wife, he is the one who started it all, he is the one who allows the disrespect to continue, he is the one who disrespects both of them...this arrogant and weak shell of a man. He is the main asshole in this tale, so shouldn't we curse him on the same level?

Hi, I'm obsessed.

This shit was too good, the first season is now over and all I'm left with is a fucked up sleeping schedule and yearning for the second season to come Asap. Navier is my badass queen no in fact goddess who deserves so much more than that clown of an Emperor Sovieshit. Heinrey is my sweet cinnamon roll. The drama in this was perfection. Reading this I felt things ok made my heart melt also boil with anger whenever I saw that Son of a Bitch Sovieshit and the whiny girl Trashta but other than that I loved everyone.

I ABSOLUTELY CANNOT WAIT FOR THE SECOND SEASON THIS WEBTOON HAS TAKEN OVER MY LIFE.

Navier is my QUEEN!! 👑 She deserves the world and more. I love her, ok! 😍💖
Heinley is the most precious darling that ever graced the fictional world. Seriously, find someone that looks at you the way Heinley looks at Navier 💗💗
Rashta and Sovieshu... Just NO! I'm not gonna waste my words on them 😝
McKenna needs a promotion! And maybe a hug 🤗 also, it might be just my imagination but is there something between Duke Ergi and him?? Probably my imagination but a girl can dream, right? 🤭
Navier's brother should get more scenes in the future because... well, he's hot, I don't need any other reason 😁

Eagerly waiting for season 2 🤩🤩🤩

So, I picked up this webtoon, expecting a slow-burn revenge arc with powerful moments and strong characters. What I actually got was a royal soap opera held together by a plot that crawls in circles, repeating the same tired drama, and characters that made me want to throw my phone.

And at the center of it all is Navier, our so-called empress... a woman so emotionally detached, she could watch her life fall apart and respond with a gentle blink and a teaspoon of tea.

Look, I’m all for a strong woman but come on... strong doesn’t mean turning into a statue. I kept waiting for her to snap or fight back or do something but nope. Just endless silence and polite suffering. The whole time, she was less of a lead and more of a background decoration. I wish her character had been given more growth and development.

The romance aspect? Whenever those moments come, they make me cringe with a capital C. Heinrey gave me secondhand embarrassment with every flirtation attempt, though he was the only character with even a shred of likability in this entire circus of Royal Clownery.

Anyway all in all, this webtoon promised a lot but delivered a whole lot of nothing. Definitely not worth the hype.

DISCLAIMER: this review is for both the web comic and novel combined

DISCLAIMER: this review can also be found for 재혼 황후 1 Jaehon Hwangho 1

description

재혼 황후 1 Jaehon Hwangho 1 by Alpha Tart is honestly one of the most frustrating novels I've ever read. It digs so deep into my nerves you wouldn't even understand.

description

I love Navier so much. I've not come across many authors that use this technique, so I was pleasantly surprised when I read about Navier. The author doesn't use character development, but instead choses to use slow-burning character establishment. This technique is used with Rin from The Poppy War by R.F. Kuang and I respect an author so much for using this. Navier's strong personality had no reason to be changed, she was powerful in her own brilliant ways. And this was slowly established to us through the actions that she did because ultimately, we were the only foreigners to her character in the first place. We saw her passion, her distress, her iron-will and her pain. It doesn't take a genius to realise that this is all pre-built in Navier. What a brilliant character.

description

**intakes a large breath**

HHHHHHHEEEEEEIIIIIINNNNNNLLLLLLEEEEEEEEEYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY.......!!

I can't do the story justice by just talking about Navier. There were so many brilliantly sketched out characters who all contributed to the progression of this masterpiece. Even that bitch Trashta. **oh? are you telling me her name was Rashta** Yeah. Trashta.

Temporada 1
Episodios 1 - 85

Me habían recomendado mucho este webtoon y me mandé a leerlo. Si bien me gustó no me encantó. Me costó mucho engancharme.

The Remarried Empress is one of the first manhwas i read about 2 years back on webtoon when it was getting weekly updates and to finally have physical copies makes me so happy!

the story follows Navier the empress of the eastern empire, Sovieshu the emperor of the eastern empire, Rashta the mistress, and Prince Heinrey from the western kingdom.

within the first chapter it shows Sovieshu asking for a divorce from Navier, which she gladly accepts but she also asks for approval of remarriage to a man of her choosing…
right after the first scene of the divorce it takes you to the beginning of the story and the events that happen before of what’s to come. which some might not like since it somewhat spoils you what’s going to happen eventually but there’s so much that happens before that you just can’t wait for the divorce scene 🤭 but there’s more to the story that happens after the divorce as well.

the illustrations are so beautiful that i had to get physical copies of the volumes that are currently out right now and i would totally recommend just based of the illustrations itself.

i totally recommend this story and if anyone reads this review and would like to read the story but not get the physical copies there’s 2 seasons out right now on webtoon for free which is 122 chapters.

(too many drama and not enough romance, so maybe i'll take a break for a while, coz all i wanted to see was Heinley and Navier, i kept waiting for the scene where Navier divorcing her cheating ex then come Heinley's big entrance like on the prologue to come, but it hasn't. and they still hadn't done it when i checked the latest episode too. so yeah, my patience was threading on thin ice as it is, a break is due)

Rashta gets so much hate but honestly what do you expect her to do? Starve and die in the streets? You expect her not to cling onto her patron even at the cost of the Empress’s dignity? Actually you think she gives a shit about Navier’s dignity when it’s her and Sovieshit’s economic policies and rule which allowed slavery to be a thing to begin with??? Don’t you know that condemning Rashta is like… literally condoning slavery?? Y’all brain dead?
Moreover Rashta is literally being manipulated by Sovieshit, can y’all sympathize with her a bit? You think everything’s about Navier? Oh my god who gives a shit.
Are the characters in this manga even human they have the collective complexity of a piece of dried cardboard with a single spray of cat piss on it. I can describe their entire characters in one sentence:
Navier is the jilted wife of her brain dead pubescent 12-year-old husband Sovieshu who really thinks that breaking the crayons of the girl he likes would make her notice him, but instead Heinrich or whatever his name was swoops in and becomes Navier’s manic pixie dream boyfriend, so Sovieshu is instead stuck with Rashta, a random bystander who he randomly dragged into this shitstorm.

”Navier Ellie Trovi was an empress perfect in every way - intelligent, courageous, and socially adept.
She was kind to her subjects and devoted to her husband. Navier was perfectly content to live the rest of her days as the wise empress of the Eastern Empire. That is, until her husband brought home a mistress and demanded a divorce. "I accept this divorce... And I request an approval of my remarriage." How will everything unfold?”

I’m unsure how I feel about the art style of The Remarried Empress yet, but the character Rashta in particular is drawn so beautifully. I suppose it is to show how the Emperor is so easily smitten by her. I’m sure I’ll grow to like it more overall the more I read on.
The story is based around an Emperor who falls in love with a slave girl, the only problem is, he already has an Empress. So, he introduces her as his new mistress, but is clearly more interested in doting on her than his Empress - Navier. She is the main character, and who this story revolves around. If her Emperor husband, Sovieshu, is going to divorce her… she isn’t one to be made a fool of. She will only accept this if she can remarry herself, to a man of her choosing!

4 Stars ✨❤️

The fact that a Webtoon is now my favorite read of 2021 should be enough of a review for this masterpiece, but I will still indulge myself an write one. But before I begin the fangirling and rambling, I must say: Go get Webtoon, if only to read The Remarried Empress, it will give you all the drama that you never knew you needed in your life, the pining and all of the feels. This comes from an expert on drama, feels and pining, so just go and read it!!!!

Okay, having that out of the way, let me tell you why this is the best thing ever created (at least the best story in graphic media, and I've read a lot of that.) This is a spoiler free review, so I won't get into characters except for the Empress herself. Now, into everything that is great about this webtoon:

1. NAVIER: QUEEN😉 OR SHALL I SAY EMPRESS😉? (I managed 2 internal jokes in this sentence, I'm a genius! hahaha, ok I'm not). If you have ever been annoyed at all the so-called Strong female characters in books, graphic novels, tv-shows or any other media; it's because you haven't met Navier, the Empress of My Heart and ultimate woman-boss to ever exist. She knows what she wants and she gets it, and she is not even rude, she manages it all with grace and elegance! She is so smart, like crazy-smart and she never loses her vulnerable side, no need to tear people down, she is just perfection.

2.PLOT: Whoever came up with this plot is a total genius, they had me hooked since the first episode and kept me gasping and surprised all the way to the last episode of season 1. And that is a feat considering that:

a) I tend to predict most plot-twists in books, and other media
b) This webtoon starts basically in the end, and so they "spoil" what is going to happen.

BUT YOU HAVE NOTHING TO FEAR! I was surprised when the first scene came into play again, cause the context made it twice as surprising as the first time, and I DIED! This is just top-tier plot.

3. ART: Soooooooooooooo beautiful, like just perfect. Everyone is beautiful and that isn't fair, I was here trying to hate and some really beautiful people and it hurt. But this is some of the best art and it's so perfect for the story! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.

NOW GO READ IT! PLEASE!!!

-------------------------------------------------------
REREAD 22/10/21

How does this story get even better upon reread???!!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA, I'M DYING, I NEED SEASON 2 NOW!!!

What an opening! I wish I had the confidence that Empress Navier has. She takes everything in stride in this volume. Yes, there are some passages where she is teary, but she quickly wipes them away and becomes better and better. The Emperor is such a lout. He can take his mistress and get the hell out of the kingdom and leave it in Navier's capable hands. The two guys that were introduced to us are really interesting and I can't wait to see what becomes of their relationship with the Empress. There were also a lot of questions that were brought up at the very end that made me want the next volume straight away.

Reread on May 3rd, and honestly Navier could marry me, and Henry can be our mistress because SIS! I stan Navier so hard.

went into this thinking it was going to be a fluffy romance, but the plot and political intrigue is more complex than I thought. I absolutely love Prince Henry and his relationship with Empress Navier.

Despite everything Navier is going through, she remains, strong, vigilant, and a voice of reason for her people within the empire. I adore her, and honestly can’t wait for her divorce.

I wanted to like it but the comment section of this webtoon is full of negativity for Rashta. It's not like that I like this character but why the hell everyone is only blaming her? Can't they see the Emperor is more at fault than her? I don't like to read stories where women hate another women and only women is blamed. Also, I didn't get it why the prince of Western kingdom fell for her? For her beauty? That's it?

The Remarried Empress is an ongoing Webtoon comic following Empress Navier. She is the wife of Sovieshu the Emperor of the Eastern Empire and is dedicated to her people. When her husband brings a mistress to the palace, tensions quickly start to build.

The story is filled to the brim with political intrigue. Courtiers everywhere have their own agenda and its really fun seeing how that impacts the plot. Whilst in later volumes this does get stretched a little, it never feels old or thin.

In terms of artwork, it is absolutely stunning. There were so many pages where I wanted to take a screenshot.

Worldbuilding is pretty solid (although it would be bit clearer with a map). In the backdrop of the story, the number of mages has mysteriously been decreasing over the years and this poses a problem to the Eastern Empire.

Heinrey's romance with Navier is an absolute delight to read. Their slow build-up through to friendship is so sweet, and I hope to see more in future episodes.

Overall, definitely worth a read!!

3.5 stars rounded to 4 (The pacing was kinda slow and there wasn't enough romance)
