The fallout of battle is always worse than you expect.
After the battle with the Fomor, but before the ash has settled, Wynonna is carried away to the new realm she rules. Once she arrives, she discovers that the realm expects a lot of her. Especially, the dragon prince who promises to be a thorn in her side. Winnie appeases them because she knows she has to return to Steelshore. The Fomor were only pushed back, not destroyed.
The consequences of the battle leave Wynonna alone to face the horde that no mere mortal could face. However, she's never merely been anything. She's a queen. She's the Phoenix, and she isn't going to back down. She will go and do whatever it takes to protect the city and the human race from the carnage that threatens. If she stands alone, can she win? If she gains allies from unexpected places, can she pay the cost?
Final Flight is the finale of the Stories of Frost and Fire Series. This book overlaps with the events in the Dog River Wolfpack book, Born on the Bayou. The next Dog River Wolfpack book, Simple Man, will conclude this story arc in the Trailerverse. But this isn't the end of Winnie's or any of the characters' stories.
From early in life Kimbra Swain was indoctrinated in the ways of geekdom. Raised on Star Wars, Tolkien, Superheroes and Voltron, she found herself immersed in a world of imagination. She started writing in high school, and completed her English degree from the University of Alabama in 2003. Her writing is influenced by a gamut of authors including Jane Austen, J.R.R. Tolkien, L.M. Montgomery, Timothy Zahn, Kathy Reichs, Kevin Hearne and Jim Butcher. Born and raised in Alabama, Kimbra still lives there with her husband and 5 year old daughter. When she isn't reading or writing, she plays PC games, makes jewelry and builds cars.

Left me smiling with tears running down my face. This is the last book in the Stories of Frost and Fire series and it is better than expected. I don't want to spoil it for anyone so I'm just going to say there is a lot to love here. Fan favorite characters, action galore, answers, and a whole new realm that leaves things open for so much more to explore in the future of the Trailerverse. This story truly does Winnie justice. She has come a long way and this book honors her journey.
I think I deliberately found things to do so I wouldn't finish this story. I didn't want it to end. Winnie's epic finale will take you on an emotional rollercoaster ride through the end of her self discovery. You will find yourself cheering her on and wishing you could comfort her. She proves that a woman doesn't need a man to save her, Wynonna Riggs is her own damn hero.
Finally finished with this series, and this book is the BEST of them all! Go Winnie Go! Don't worry, there will be more of this character in the future!
I’ve been on this Trailerverse journey in Kimbra Swain's world for a long time now. Every book is better than the last. Her ability to weave a story...seeming to wrap everything up in the first series, and start something new in 2 spin off series, only to have everything connected to the finished series and open a whole slew of questions again? Only Kimbra Swain could do this.
Final Flight takes the cake. It is far and away the best book she’s written, to date. I say this time and time again, and every time I mean it. She never ceases to amaze me, never ceases to surprise me and never ceases to leave me wanting MORE.
How then, do I put into words the feelings I had while reading Final Flight? I’ll do my best.
Winnie started her series, feeling like she was out to prove herself. That she wasn’t JUST Grace's daughter. She wanted to learn who she was, fight some evil and maybe if she felt like it, fall in love. The series follows her and her best friends on their journey, as they kick ass and get in some trouble along the way. They look to her for guidance and leadership.
All the heartbreak, all the healing, all the laughter and lessons they learn together, helps her become what she was always meant to be. The one and only Phoenix. She’s always felt strong and independent but she learns real strength, real independence in Final Flight. She learns how to be...a fucking Queen.
She is alone throughout this final book. Not because no one loves her. Not because no one believes in her. Because she’s a badass and she knew what was needed from her. She listened to her gut, to her heart. She learned to trust herself. To fight the good fight, be a voice for those who can’t speak for themselves, to be diplomatic and when that doesn’t work, to exact righteous justice with extreme fury.
There is closure we did not know we needed in this book, there is healing we thought we already got through, there is shock and there is pride.
Grace and Dylan have big hearts, and are damn near indestructible beings. Winnie is half Grace. Half Dylan. And dare I say...she’s even better than both combined?
Final Flight was the best book Kimbra Swain has ever written, I’m sure it wont be the last time I say that but right now? It’s going to be hard to top.
Every now And then, rarely but it does happen, a book comes along and burns your blood with a list for adventure and true inspiration.
That was final flight. Not only was this the best book to date from Kimbra Swain but I was left with a feeling of wonder. The series may have ended but I know we will be seeing these characters again someday- the entirety of the trailerverse isn’t over.
Winnie finally became the strong, fierce, loyal woman and Phoenix she was meant to be- and found her place as the one and only Phoenix. This book.. inspires. It inspires you to take risks that are worth the outcome, especially if they are for what you know is right. It inspires you to love and trust your family- blood and chosen, because those bonds make you stronger l, even when you need to stand on your own. I always identified with Winnie out of all the characters because passion and fire burn through her soul- and final flight showcases this all so stunningly, it’s honestly breathtaking.
Moments of happiness. Moments of heartbreak. Moments of laughter, lust and life. All these moments really made this book shine and stand out , woven so beautifully I have to tip my hat.
Well done, Miss Swain, you are a master of story weaving.
This book made me FEEL. This series was a journey of self discovery and the knowledge that you may not have all the answers, but that’s ok- you’ll figure them out Ans become stronger for it. From little Winnie to Queen Winnie. She is a magnificent creation.
This may be Kimbra's best book yet, I am a pretty harsh critic when I read books but I can honestly say this was definitely 5 stars. The book started off hot and heavy and ended the same. There wasn't a full moment and we learned alot about the fire realm and Winnie. It was kind of like her swan song basically. I don't want to give too much away but she is where she's supposed to be - finally! The writing was almost perfect, so many thanks to the proofreaders! To me it seemed like the author really poured alot into this book and everything just flower naturally and it wasn't rushed. The thoughts put to paper were very well thought out and explained for the reader. I really loved the book and there was kind of a cliff hanger at the end, but the kind where Wynona's story could end and she only appear for cameos or where she could have a whole other story line with a series. So I don't hate the ending and I would feel satisfied if it ended there, most of the loose ends are tied up. The story definitely makes me want to know what's going on with the main plot though - we need a back story of Araxia! This is a definite read, all the stories in the trailer verse that aren't the best are worth it just to get to this one.
I have adored reading about Winnie ever since she first showed up in Author Swain's Bless Your Heart. She has only gotten better as she 'grows up.' She's all grow'd up and is ready to take the skies. (She's already taken to the skies but now she is going to take them and anything else she darn well pleases.)
This book is a satisfying conclusion to a tale - though I'm sure there are more stories yet to come. Give it a read or... better yet, start reading all the other books she appears in first and pour yourself a big mug of whatever you're drinking. You're going to need it - whew!
The writing is solid, the characters fully realized, and the inner growth of this character still astonishes me.
Kimbra Swain has shown once again why she has so many readers that are in love with her books. Winnie's series may end here but her story doesn't. Gaps are filled, answers given and some battles ended. While feeling lost and alone Winnie gains a better understanding of herself, her strengths, powers and weaknesses. With her death and rebirth, Winnie shows why she is worthy of being a Queen. I anxiously await the next leg of the journey for the people of Shady Grove.
Winnie is incredible. Winnie’s journey has been incredible. Her final flight has been littered with love, laughter, sadness and strength. The character has grown by leaps and bounds. Starting as a human girl and ending as a grown woman, fairy, Phoenix and badass fighter. Kimbra never fails to entertain with surprises and humor and quality writing. Fantastic ending and new beginnings.
This is a perfect book for Winnie. Old trials are put to rest and she truly transforms into a power that demands respect from all the kingdoms. More questions and new obstacles are in her future to be sure, but the Phoenix always rises to any challenge. The best book of the series and a fantastic setup for the next stage! Couldn't have been done better!
I love all of Kimbra's books but watching (reading) Winnie grow into tao an amazing woman, strong leader & steadfast friend has been a true pleasure. If you want to go on an emotional roller coaster READ this series & especially this book. Kimbra has the amazing & enviable ability to not only transport her readers to the thick of all the action but also make you feel like an integral part of even the smallest moments.
Kimbra, you bitch! J/k. This was insanely good. It answered so much, but it left so many loose thread s that I am PRAYING are answered in Nick's last book and Killian and Kyrie's books. The K/Cats are kickass! I was sad to see this part of the story end, but Winnie held her own, and won the day with her kingdom's help.
Whoah! Winnie's trials reach a fever pitch as she navigates the machinations of their opposition. Recent revelations rock everyone's world, revealing the breadth and scope of the schemes. With all support structures systematically stripped away, The Phoenix will have to decide if she will crumble under the pressure or use it to temper her steel and truly rise.
She gets me again bkuz wen I tell u I was not only happy to hear this wasn’t winnies last book but then u sprinkle in Kyries and Killians yea I’m just sitting pretty til those come out but her writing never fail me I have read almost every series she has put out and they r all fire ❤️❤️❤️
It’s a good thing Kimbra seems to have all the words, because after this book I have none.
If you aren’t ready to feel all of the feels don’t start this book yet, but get yourself ready or you will miss out on the bad a$$ conclusion to Winnie’s story.
Men...hot men...and more hot men. Wynonna is on a mission to save her town and she's flying through her circle of men like Cat and Kat drink wine....nonstop. But will she save the city and find the one? Or will she destroy everything and lose herself and everyone she loves? Awesome read! Love this series.
This book is everything I didn’t know I needed from this series!
Oh my dragons! I began this book knowing the end was nigh and with a heaviness in my heart. I finish it with an expanded heart and a reassurance that I’ll see my beloveds again. Ms Swain is by far an author for her readers. She gives us exactly what we didn’t know we wanted or needed and we are forever grateful!
What a great book. From the trailer park to Final Flight its been amazing to see little Winnie mature and become Queen Wynonna, just as strong as her mother. I loved that she is now able to see her dad Dylan..alert tear jerker scenes involved. Read the entire series you won't be disappointed.
Winnie is my favorite character! Her heart and soul are beautiful mixed with so much sass. She has grown up so much in the last couple books while still holding on to what makes her her. Winnie is what we strive to be strong fierce independent. I'm sad her story line is over but glad she will still be around. Beautiful book. This one will stay with me a while.
Fast paced and exciting! You get to see a young woman coming into her own, making the tough choices about love and honor, accepting responsibility for her own actions, and standing up for what’s right “when the shit hits the fan, it spreads” and no one else can.
As one kingdom gets saved, another rises from the ashes. Winnie owns her independence in this one and begins a new chapter of her life. Good journey to be a part of
Final Flight is the final book in the Stories of Frost and Fire series but not the end of Wynonna's story. WOW!! What a book!! What an amazing adventure this was. I absolutely love this book and cannot reccomend this series enough. Bravo Kimbra Swain!
I could not put down any book in any of the series . The writing is so intense that you can’t but laugh and cry throughout the story. I’m so glad I found this series - I can’t wait to see it continue. Awesome job Kimbra!
This book answered many questions, but gave us, the reader many more question to be answered, at a later date. I laughed, cried, got angry and swore at my Kindle. A not to be missed episode, of the on going saga of Kimbra Swain’s universe.
Kimbra outdid herself with Winnie's final book in this series! Love how Winnie stays so strong and tells her own tale, needs help and yet stays her own person throughout. Great read!!!
Wow....I'm speechless. Winnie has done well...although I didn't think I was going to make it to the end without needing a drink. Wait....better yet....how about a bourbon !!!!
What a story! What a battle! What a way to end the series! We finally get to see Winnie have her heart to heart with Dylan and then show him that she earned his sacrifice many times over. Heartbreak and bad-assery; How very Winnie.
Winnie’s tale may be over, and I couldn’t imagine a more perfect conclusion. I know we will see her again, and I for one can’t wait. If you haven’t read these books: What are you waiting for???
