Most Christians, at least the non-charismatic ones, tend to ignore the Holy Spirit. It may not be intentional, Cunnion observes, just lack of knowledge. She says one of the things that compelled her to write a book about the Spirit was “recognizing that most Christians acknowledge the existence of the Holy Spirit but avoid any experience of Him...” (185) It set her on a spiritual journey and she shares her insights in this book.

This is a good book for Christians desiring to experience all God has for us. Cunnion shares how she realized Jesus said the Spirit's presence was better for the disciples than His own. (23) She writes about discovering how to recognize the power of the Spirit within and living by it. She says understanding the Spirit's work is important because “...whatever God wants to say to us is conveyed through His Spirit.” (124)

Cunnion's book is a good one for understanding how the Spirit guides, how we can practice His presence, how we can stop from filling our lives with lesser things and more. I was especially struck by her exploration of the difference between being productive and being spiritually fruitful and God-glorifying. Insights like that one make this a good book for Christians young and old. She has a good, insightful discussion on the baptism of the Spirit too, identifying it with a felt experience. (Nothing scary for non-charismatic Christians.)

I appreciate this book. It is well written, sensible and anchored in Scripture. She has added good questions for reflection and response at the end of each chapter so this book would be good for personal devotions and group discussion.

Food for thought: “The extent to which we are willing to engage with the Spirit of God is the extent to which we will encounter the fullness of God.” (18)

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher. My comments are an independent and honest review.

The Holy Spirit is often the forgotten person of the trinity: modern Christians spend little time talking about or focusing on the Holy Spirit, yet He is referenced throughout Scripture, and Jesus Himself told His followers that His (Jesus’s) leaving them was to their benefit because they would receive the Spirit—in other words, the gift of the Holy Spirit in our lives is better than living alongside the person of Jesus!

Jeannie Cannon was a lifelong follower of Jesus, but in recent years she began to realize that she was not accessing the full potential of the Christian life because she had been neglecting the presence of the Holy Spirit within her. In this book she shares all she has learned about the Holy Spirit—from His attributes to His purpose to the work that He can do in the lives of believers. I have never read (or even heard about) a book dedicated entirely to the Holy Spirit, but I spend a lot of time thinking and talking about the Holy Spirit (Charleston in particular has a lot of questions about the Holy Spirit which has prompted quite a bit of study on my part in order to respond to his questions) . . . so I couldn’t wait to read this book.

While parts of this book were review, I learned SO MUCH. Jeannie answered some of my lingering questions about what the Spirit does and does not do, and she helped me to see how I can begin living in full alignment with the Spirit who is living in me, equipping me to live out my calling and purpose. The book’s subject matter may be a challenging one, but the narration is easy to follow and understand, and I loved the reflection questions at the end of each chapter.

The title had me slightly concerned that this would veer into prosperity Gospel or self-help territory, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. The book doesn’t make any promises not backed by Scripture, and the focus is on holiness and sanctification that the Spirit does IN US and not on anything we may do ourselves. What an encouraging, inspirational, and well-researched book that would be perfect for studying with a small group.

My Rating: 4 Stars.

Thanks to Bethany House for the free review copy.
This book is a book that I didn't know I needed. I didn't realize how lacking my knowledge of the Spirit was, and I am so thankful that Cunnion decided to write this book. I learned so much about the Holy Spirit. I had some of my confusions and misconceptions about the Spirit answered, too. I liked how each chapter was on the shorter side. The writing was concise, yet it packed so much rich theology in and just made me feel closer to the Spirit while reading. I also liked the two questions at the end. They made me think without being overwhelmed. This is a book that I feel like all Christian women would benefit from, and I hope it gets into the hands of the women who need it. If you want to know more about the Holy Spirit, I cannot recommend this book enough.

Incredible book! Jeannie does such a great job of helping us not “miss out” on all the Holy Spirit does and is, despite being arguably the most neglected member of the Trinity. Despite being a Christian my entire life, I don’t think I have ever felt more aware and in tune with the Spirits presence than after I read this book. The short 30 chapters makes it easy to dwell on a different aspect of the Holy Spirit each day with reflective questions at the end of each chapter. HIGHLY recommend!

The way scripture, humor and honesty are woven through this book really made me reflect on my life... where am I now and where do I want to be. The short chapters really gave you the time to absorb the brilliant writing!!!

In Don’t Miss Out, Jeannie Cunnion explored the topic of the Holy Spirit and what we can learn about Him. She discovered 30 key benefits on the presence of the Holy Spirit in your life. She begins the book by looking at how He is our advantage. She revealed how she was settling for God’s best in her life and how she had faith. But she wasn’t replying on the Holy Spirit and his supernatural power and strength. She looked at John 16:5-7 and this verse explained why Jesus had to go away and how it was for our benefit and advantage where the helper will come to us. The Holy Spirit dwells within us and He will help us, communicates with us, advocates for us, will never leave us, helps us to produces fruit in our lives, convicts us, gives us spiritual gifts, and much more. Her goal at the end of the book is for readers to have the main question as what all doesn’t the Holy Spirit do.

I would recommend this awesome book to anyone who is ready to seek the Holy Spirit in a deeper way. I immensely liked how she looked at all scopes of who, what, and the power made available by the Holy Spirit. I liked how she explained the gifts that the Holy Spirit has given us and how they were chosen for us. She also included a helpful Spiritual Gifts Survey at the end of the book to assist readers in figuring out their gifts and purpose. Some of mine is wisdom and prophecy. I appreciated how she dived into the many different areas of the Holy Spirit and what all He is able to do. I also liked the last but not least section at the end of each chapter. These included a reflect and a respond. This will assist readers into not missing out on everything the Holy Spirit wants to accomplish in our lives.

Don’t Miss Out by Jeannie Cunnion shares Jeannie’s journey of awareness and a deeper look at the Holy Spirit. Jeannie shares the insight and conviction she has received over the years utilizing the Holy Spirit‘s power. This book is a great mix of personal stories as well as spiritual theology.

On pg 51 she shares, “the Holy Spirit gets you” as in understands you. Jeannie also shares on page 64, “He (God) has given us the Holy Spirit to help us along, so let’s stop settling for doing it alone. We need a holy help.” Finally, on page 66, she shares, “Have you ever considered that the Spirit wants to do far more for you than you even want to do for you? It’s true. What He can do is far better, and the outcomes are far bigger, than what we can do on our own!”

This is an excellent resource for those who have been Christians for a long time as well as those who are new Christians. I enjoyed the insight and stories that were shared. It’s an easy read yet contains profound insight relating to the Holy Spirit.

I was given a free copy from the publisher for my honest review which I am happy to do.

Don't Miss Out, was not what I was expecting.

The author was heartfelt and passionate about the topic and as a reader, I could tell it was a sense of humility and relying on the Holy Spirit, which is what this book was all about. I really appreciated how this book was setup and the perspective from the author's own experiences was expertly embedded in the story. I felt as if I was across from the Jeannie drinking caffeine and having a conversation.

This book had a great use of scripture and had me wanting to pull out my bible to read more about the verses/chapter referenced. There were thought-provoking questions in every chapter that were provided for reflection with an emphasis to take a moment to do the 'assignment'. I love the real life, examples and how they were related to the every day moments in our life.

This book could be read by the new believer or the seasoned believer. Told with an open and unassuming audience.

Thank you to Netgalley and Bethany House Publishers for this digital ARC copy for my honest review.

If, like me, your understanding of how the Holy Spirit works in your life is a little fuzzy, no matter how long you've been a Christ-follower, then Don't Miss Out may just be the book for you. Written in thirty relatively short chapters, it can be read one chapter a day for a month, or multiple chapters at one sitting.
Written in a personal, conversational style, Jeannie backs up her insights of the person of the Holy Spirit with Scripture. I found myself taking notes as I read to be sure I didn't forget some important point. There is much in these pages that speaks of the incredible benefits of the Holy Spirit's presence in our life. I highly recommend it.
I received a complimentary copy of this book from Bethany House for a fair and honest review, which is exactly what I gave.

I enjoyed this book a lot. I know about the Holy Spirit, but reviewing who the Holy Spirit is, and how he works in my life, and how I can trust him was just what I needed. I appreciate how the author wove scripture, life, and other teachings on the Holy Spirit throughout the whole book.

I also appreciated the way each chapter ended with a 'last but not least' section that had a question or two to reflect on, and a response. Simple yet pulled together my thoughts and left me challenged with each chapter I read.

The book has 30 succinct and easy-to-read chapters, that left me wanting to read on. I found the book theologically accurate, helped me pursue a mindset the reflects who the Holy Spirit is in all his facets, and how much I miss when I don't allow him to work in my heart, mind, and soul. I highlighted many concepts.

I appreciated the author's self-reflection, honesty, and even sense of humor in her transparent sharing of her experience and growth. Thankful to partner with NetGalley and Bethany House publishers and read an advanced copy.

If you're anything like me, you may have known about the Holy Spirit but had a hard time grasping what He means for you and your life on a day to day basis. As Jeannie says in the book, the Spirit is often the person of the Trinity that we have the hardest time understanding, and can often think that the Spirit is only for the super spiritual. But after reading this book, I am so excited by my new realization of all the ways that the Spirit is given to us as believers to live in power and hope during our time here on earth. Jeannie is a gifted author and she breaks this topic down so anyone can grasp it and come away changed and so much more knowledgeable. I am grateful to Jeannie for writing this book and sharing it with all of us!!

I learned so much about the Holy Spirit through Don't Miss Out! I think Christians often forget that the third part of Trinity is there to help us as we face our daily lives. The book reminds us that he is our assistant and helper. I loved that each chapter is short and describes characteristic of the Holy Spirit and the author gives a personal testimony of that characteristic. The chapter ends with verses to read and I think it would make a great devotional. It is not written as a theology book, but is based on Truth and made to be used as a personal growth tool.

I very nearly finished this in 2021, but this is not a book to rush through. An excellent primer on the role of Holy Spirit in your life, & His place in the Trinity. It also contains the best explanation I've encountered on the difference between being baptized in the Holy Spirit and baptism of the Holy Spirit. And it reiterates the meaning of the power of the Spirit. Power translates as "dynamite" in Greek. I heard that recently and read it again here. There is much to be gleaned from Cunnion's teaching on Holy Spirit. I highly recommend this book if growing in your faith is something you want to pursue. It's a wonderful tool to use with your reading of the Word.

Don’t Miss Out by Jeannie Cunnion is an important book for believers. I was so happy to see the topic of this book because I have not seen many books on this topic lately. This book— it’s amazing. Ms Cunnion treats this topic well and explains the vital role of the Holy Spirit. So good and so important for us to remember. The Holy Spirit is a game changer in our Christian walk. This book helps explain why. I received a digital copy of this book from the publisher with no obligations. These opinions are entirely my own.

I love a book that dives in to tackle things people don't talk about, and Don't Miss Out does just that! Too often as Christians, we discount the Holy Spirit. We consider it like an add-on, like ketchup for fries, as Cunnion describes. But the Holy Spirit is part of the Trinity, equal to the other two parts of God and Jesus.

This book challenges the reader to see the role of the Holy Spirit in her life, to embrace the way that she can draw closer to Jesus and live life to the fullest with the Holy Spirit.

"Don't Miss Out", by Jeannie Cunnion, is all about the work of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit has always been a rather nebulous, mysterious concept to me. However, Cunnion does a good job of describing who He is, what He does, and the importance of allowing the Holy Spirit to guide your steps. Using personal anecdotes and passages from Scriptures, the author does a good job of explaining the work and person of the Holy Spirit.

Thanks to NetGalley for the ARC. All opinions are my own.

Excellent book on the Holy Spirit. The author does a great job laying out who the Holy Spirit is, what He does, and why Jesus could say it was "better" for Him to go away, so that the the Holy Spirit would come to live in God's people.

A very balanced book, doesn't lean strongly toward Cessationism or Continuationism. Should be a great encouragement to Christians from both camps. Highly Recommend!

I won this book on Instagram and really loved it. It's not "pentecostal" but truly just about Holy Spirit and WHO He is and what He does. It explains in detail and leaves you with a longing to know Him more. It's set up to easily use as a daily devotional and I liked it so much I bought it for my daughter for Christmas.

Read with a church women's group. I had some judgmental expectations for it since she seems to come from a more fundamentalist background, and I definitely didn't agree with her on everything, but I was surprised by some good reflection and discussion. And I think it made us all a little more aware and appreciative of the Spirit.
