Faith & Favor: Discovering Family at Fifty

Rate this book
Lisa A. Quaites is a postwar mixed-race Korean adoptee who was raised by a Black military family in the United States. Her desire to reconnect with her Korean mother ignited a search that uncovered paternal relatives via DNA testing. This personal adoption account of Lisa’s predestined journey explores her life experience as a transracial adoptee and the challenges she faced at home and in her motherland. This poignant memoir highlights the author’s redemptive joy and showcases her resilience and determination to discover her family roots. Lisa wants other adoptees to know that even in the absence of viable information, all hope is not lost, and modern-day miracles do exist.

I very much enjoyed this lived experience Lisa was willing to share with the reader on her journey to meet with her biological family. A step of faith and curiosity leads to varied experiences that had my heart soar for her, and cry for her along the way. It is especially heart warming to see her be used by God to bring her biological family together. It was also striking to see her continual gratitude to each member as they were willing to share their lives with her and their time. What a beautiful story, although I appreciate her comments towards the end on how this is a difficult story that non adoptees can’t fully comprehend- and especially so with the mixed race piece tied into it. I appreciated her honesty in sharing that as well. I was encouraged by her story, and will be praying God allows her to reconnect with her mother if that is His will.

Ever wonder what it like to be adopted and embarking on an endless search for your biological family? Ever wonder what it's like to find long lost family and hope they will be receptive and not reject you? Even if you haven't experienced these things, I assure you that Lisa Quaites' personal true story about her journey is as fascinating as it is informational and inspirational. I highly recommend reading her book. I loved it and really felt like I was right by her side cheering her on, celebrating her triumphs with her and comforting her during times of frustration. She inspires me to have hope and never give up in the search for lost people who are important to us - be it through some type of adoption situation or simply long lost friends. It's never too late, everyone, and don't let it be. 🥹🌞💓🫂🍋

So good. Had me laughing, crying, and wrapped up in pensive thoughts. It made me feel like I was part of her family, experiencing the highs and lows of discovering a lineage that was previously unknown. At multiple times, I was prompted to pick up my phone to reach out to my own loved ones whom I take for granted. Thanks for such a touching account of your journey 💜
