Seasoned with attitude and packed with stories, history, how-to's, quips, advice, recipes, folklore, and crafts, "Nesting" is all about finding personal style and showing it off, putting an entirely fresh, "it's-a-chick-thing" spin on entertaining, decorating, cooking, and gardening. Photos & illustrations.
This was an entertaining book to read through. Not sure how many of the ideas are actually usable--a little dated (1950's?). I think a group of ladies might get more laughs from just reading selected stories from the book rather than being involved in an attempt to re-create them.
The author does get across the point that the people are the focus of entertaining. Making them feel special is the objective and that doesn't mean that you have to be a great cook, excel in decorating or that everything has to be perfectly clean. Just invite some people over to have fun!!!!
I have made some of the "chic-tails"...some good drink recipes there!
This book was a light little collection of essays on decorating, entertaining and gardening. it was like reading a women's magazine...very light and superficial.
While more than a decorating book, it covers all four areas of nesting: decorating, entertaining, cooking and gardening. It is full of witty & whimsical stories from some of the leading chicks in their area of expertise. There are some very inspiring stories, some great ideas and wonderful recipes. Overall, a really good book for the chick who loves to play house & hold pink poker nights!
This book gave me a headache. The chapters are chock full of these silly little vignettes and quotations in addition to the main text... too many, if you ask me! The effect is rather seizure-inducing.
It was okay, good quotes definitely, but a bit twitchy to read. This a a good single lady alone on a friday night nothing to read wish I had friends book. Some things suggested would have my friends laughing, and still laughing if I suggested we attempt.
This was cute and the layout was adorable. It was a fun read and was a little bit inspiring, but the "girls just wanna have fun" trope tends to wear a little thin about halfway through. I'm glad I bought this used. It was cute and fun, but that was it. Not a ton of substance.
